Kirley: I have not chosen a pump yet but looking at medela freestyle, looks good and portable. Depends on how much you want to spend. I have a friend about to sell her Medela Pump in Style, it's in a backpack and she swears by it, she's on the Sunny coast but wants about $300.
As for the rest of my post, well I haven't got time now, Elliot is starting to crack it! Last night was crap, not sure what's wrong with him
Swing is great. I think William spitting it into a bottle sounds nifty - by sure to video it! By power pump I mean use whatever pump you have and do 5 or 10 minute cycles on the one boob to mimick a cluster feed. I can get multiple let downs that way. Must go put bins out before I miss the garbage truck.
Hey ladies, real quickie between appointments.. just a tip re electric pumps, never buy or borrow secondhand (manual ok) as can't sterilise it, only ones can reuse are hospital ones cos they're done to be able to sterilie internally etc..i have avent electrical, really good though i've bust power pack 3 times now (they always express me a new one for free..) cos my milk flow is a bit fast - i need to just set it slower but i'm always in a hurry.. it works really quickly and comes with a battery pack (for expressing on the move, great in the car!!) and bits to use it as a manual, costs about $200.. apart from breaking it a few times (doh!) it's really great to use. and considering they replace bits free their customer service is fab..
The medela pump unit does not come into contact with the milk and you can purchase new collection kit if you want. I hate my avent electrical, manual is a touch better but not much, they work differently for each person!

Elliot had his 6 month check today, all seemed good, he was very happy bright and alert. Only 6.8kg, weight gain has slowed right down and he's dropped onto 10th perccentile but CHN didn't seem concerned at this stage. More needles on Friday, poor little chap! Carried him around all day in Ergo, what a marvel I love it! Slept in shopping centre, into car seat, back out and into hospital and all through my appointment with Staff Health, just have to keep moving or he wakes up!
Start my new job 25th, on the one hand really excited but on the other have had the realisation that I will be leaving Elliot, I hadn't really prepared emotionally it hit me a bit suddenly! I feel so guilty, not just at leaving him but that I wanted to leave him at all. Now it's all coming together i'm not sure that I do! I'm sure that me feeling fulfilled in my career will make for a happier Mummy all round and DH does a great job of looking after him and is much better at the house work than me! He is already planning their trips out fishing and other such like "manly" things, DH is very excited! Went in today and so glad I decided not to make a leap back into ED, 2 cardiac arrests and a young girl with a perforated uterus who they thought was going to die, I don't need that kind of stress back in my life right now!!
Sleep time still has its ups and downs in our house! On the whole sleeping much better but still waking more than i'd like, he doesn't need a feed and just get's put back to sleep, I think it's habitual. In fact that's him right now, on cue. Goodnight!
Another long spell between posts for me. I stopped getting notifications again and it seemed like such a hard task to log on again and find the group! It wasn't though so here I am. I've just read back the last thread, so I think I may have missed a few weeks of catching up.
Shona - I so relate to what you are saying. I felt guilty for months (still do actually) about wanting to go back to uni (research work) which meant putting DD1 into daycare 2 days a week. Like you I genuinely believe that I am a happier person and mother by being able to fulfill my own interests. In the end I kinda realised that just because I had a baby didn't mean I was a different person, iykwim - I still liked my work and not being able to do it made me frustrated. And things always change, what's right for now can always change if it isn't right in the future. You'll be fine - your hubby sounds like he'll have things under control!
Tan - yep, also hear you loud and clear! Toddler + baby = massive amounts of stress. I don't cope. Don't even pretend to if someone asks me now! Am currently trying to get my toddler to stop whacking the baby's head with books. At this point i'd even be happy if she stopped laughing when she does it. Glad that you are letting some help in, i know it's hard. Especially when the rest of the world isn't OCD .
My baby is almost 7 months. Can't believe it. She's sitting, rolling, almost crawling and would eat a three-course steak dinner if she had teeth. There was no transition into solids for her, it was literally gimme gimme gimme. She's almost 8 kg and the only thing i'm not really happy with is the patchy sleep pattern. I'm over the lack of sleep!k

its so hard to believe how quickly this year has gone! we are almost in november!! five pays left till christmas (if you get fortnightly payments) eek!

william has had lots of solids...loves them...definately a pumpkin and pear (not together) fan! oh and cucumber too.
still hates to sleep during the day...night time still at least two times waking for feeds....but not fussed bout that, i'm still getting sleep.
got a tooth coming thru yay!
started swimming lessons - very fun
7.5kg (can't wait to turn the car seat around cuz he hates it backwards!!) shona - also down in percentile, used to be up around 50% now he's below 25%. my friend did tell me that the Child nurses said it's based on formula fed babies now so not to stress about where you are on it if you are bfing.
69.5cm long - up around 75%+ percentile on this one. he's guna be tall like daddy i think.
rolling both ways and getting all round the loungeroom.
start 3rd job in two weeks! so i'm guna be busy...jb hi fi monday - wed, swimming lessons and after school care thursdays, playgroup and arvo off on fridays....work from home on weekends....plus mummy & wifey in there somewhere too :S only for three months till after chrissy. money = good = happy= no broke= bills paid.
anyway gota go do some work.
