Hi Girls - I've been down at the farm house all weekend so have missed heaps!
Hi Tilda - come back to Perth and we can catch up!
Hi Kanda - great to hear from you! Glad Sienna is being so great with her sleeping, that's awesome! I'm going to go ready your birth story, as a fellow c-section"er" I'm interested to read how yours panned out.
Hi Willow and Carmey - how are you both lovelies? D
AFM - I think my roids or fissure (I do think it's more likely the latter) is getting a bit better with the cream, doesn't hurt as much but I still look forward to the day I can go to the toilet without grimacing! Sorry if TMI. I'm going to get myself some fenugreek today to try and increase my milk supply, it's been ok but still not good enough to avoid the formula feeds at nearly every feed now. Not that I mind doing that but I really want to continue BF'ing as much as I can but still happy to do both. Some is better than none huh! Amelia is doing great though, she's 6 weeks old today, I can't believe how fast the time has gone, does everyone else feel the same? It just feels like yesterday that I was waiting for her due date to come, it's quite scary how fast it's going. She is really smiling heaps now, especially when you talk to her, it's so adorable it makes my heart melt. I can't wait for the gooing sounds to go with it, had a couple but nothing obvious. She's also still sleeping well at night, getting on average 4-5 hours now, got 6 again last night, she went down at 9.30 pm and woke at 3.30 am, then fed and went back down until 6.30 am. It makes such a difference when they sleep a little longer, hope it lasts!
Today I'm off to the OT, haven't been since before I had Amelia and I'm hanging out for it, my neck, back and shoulders are so sore from BF'ing, most probably my bad posture, I'm taking Amelia as the therapist wants to meet Amelia, I've been going to her for 5 or so years, she's excited to meet her. I hope she's quiet while I'm there LOL! Then I'm off to see a friend for an hour. I have a busy week this week, hope it's not too much for Amelia, now I can drive AND lift the pram I'm going to start getting out more. Tomorrow I thought I'd take a trip into the city to see my work crew - might catch the train though, hate driving into the city, parking alone sux! Then Wednesday catching up with my aqua class girls for morning tea. We're going to discuss doing a mums and bubs swimming class, I really need to get into exercise now I can, I've got 8 kgs to lose! Who said BF'ing made you lose weight, I'm still waiting!!!!!!! People say I don't look like I need to lose it but I've got 8 kgs, got a pudgy gut still and I think my thighs are looking a bit sad ha ha.
Oh and I think I might have gotten AF, my bleeding stopped nearly 2 weeks ago and just a few days ago started again, it's not very heavy though but I'm sure it's proper AF as I have some slight cramps and my boobs are a bit sore - although what's new there ha ha! I didn't think you got AF while you were breastfeeding so there you go....just shows how much I don't know!!!!!
Sorry, I have totally rambled on, hope you're all having a fab day with your bubs. xx
Hi Kanda Have been wondering how you were going, I assumed you were super busy with a new baby AND a toddler to run after! Glad to hear things are going well, excellent that Sienna sleeps so well wish I could say the same about Harry he's a lot like his oldest brother was.
Hi Alison Hope all goes well at the OT . I hear ya on the bum problem!! Glad it seems to be coming good. You can get AF while you're BF, not everyone gets lucky and skips it the whole time, maybe they'll be lighter and shorter for you ...oooh you better be extra careful if your DTD urge has returned! Could be waiting for your next due date sooner than you thought
Sounds like you're another lucky one and Amelia is settling into a good sleep routine at night, Amelia's got a week or so on Harry so maybe he'll catch up next week...or the week after
We had another chiro appointment this morning. Harry looks so cute on the table I even took the camera today I'm sure Michael (the chiropractor) thought I was an idiot LOL Harry's still not wanting to tilt his head all the way to the right side but getting better, we have to encourage him to turn to the right when he's having tummy time, but at least it's improved enough so my nipple isn't bleeding any more and he feeds a little more efficiently, although he still gets a bit lazy sometimes.
He's gulping some air too when he feeds just gets lazy and breaks the suction then sucks some air in when he gets back on properly again grrr anyone else had this problem? For those who use the Infants Friend does that help with wind from gulping air? Or is it more for wind caused by other factors? I'm sure if we can get it under control Harry would be more settled all round, well hopefully!
Stinking hot here today 38 I'm glad our chiro was at 9am wouldn't like to be going out now.
Also Harry seemed to be straining a lot the last few days when trying to poo, he never used to do this before, his poos are still yellow and runny though, has anyone else noticed their bubs have a change to that as well? I must say though he's pooed 3 times today without much hassle maybe the chiro straightened that out too he might have been a bit crooked in that area too.
Oh and Tilda on the washing front, we're having visitors for a week tomorrow so DS2 needed to clean out his room so the guests can use it while they're here, well the dirty clothes that have come out of there is ridiculous! There was even clean still folded cloths that obviously he was too lazy to put away and they've ended up in the dirty washing basket Not happy Jan!
Well I should get back to the washing machine I suppose, it's not getting done while I'm on here chatting
Hi Willow - do we have matching bums? LOL Mine is getting better but still not 100% yet, hurry up cream!
On the poo front, considering Amelia gets some formula top ups I'm surprised her poo is still very BF runny - I'm glad though as I'd hate for her to get constipated. Today at the OT she did a massive poo and then bawled for pretty much my whole appointment as she hates a dirty nappy - great timing Amelia! (By the way, my neck and shoulder muscles are hard as rocks so I'm back to square one like when I was working, maternity leave did wonders for my neck and shoulders but of course my back was crap, also, my sciatic nerve is also playing up again so guess everything is still working it's way back to pre-pregnancy!) Anyway, I went to put her back in the car and as I picked her up I felt wetness...................it was a massive poo explosion, all up her stomach, back, you name it so I had to go home and change her before heading to my friends. It was gross and runny and very very yellow!!!!!!!!! No wonder she cried ha ha. As for AF, yes, guess I will have to be extra careful, the urge to DTD hasn't returned yet, does it ever? Poor DH must be wondering but the week and a half in between bleeding I couldn't anyway, technically I've had to wait until today (6 weeks) anyway and now I'm bleeding again LOL! Perhaps I'll have to take that mini pill after all. I really hate the idea of condoms to be honest. Hope you survived the heat today, it's going to be 42 on Sunday in Perth........yukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk! Thank god we have ducted aircon and my sister has a pool!
Oh and I bought some Fenugreek tablets today - gosh they're pretty expensive really aren't they - $25.00 for a bottle that probably won't last long, oh well, hopefully they'll do the trick! No-one can say I'm not giving everything a go!
Won't have time to do personals but just thought I'd pop in to say hi. Had Jacob weighed this morning and he's put on 400g in a week. Now 5.2kg and 59cm long. He's starting to stretch 000 clothes as he's so long. He's feeding well and sleeping well ( um, 7 1/2 hours last night) and seems happy enough.
I guess the beauty of being a second time mum is not stressing (as much) like you do with the first bub. OMG ... first time round, I used to get very anxious and stressed about breastfeeding - why was he "on and off" all the time, why did he take so long to feed, why doesn't he want to BF?? Second time round I'm much more relaxed cos I now know that sometimes bubs go through little phases when BFing, and it's just a matter of persisting (no matter how frustrating) because things tend to return to normal sooner or later. Currently Jacob is "on, off, on, off" the boob every second or third feed - and he gets quite crotchety when he pulls himself "off". While I find it frustrating, I figure it'll sort itself out eventually. Hopefully soon, cos it can be a total PITA. It's probably that my milk is flowing a bit too fast for him ... hmm, maybe he'll just have to learn to swallow a bit quicker yeah, just joking!
One quick personal ... hi to Kanda - your toddler is just a few days older than my DS1 (Cam). How is your household going? My DS1 just wants to smother "babe jay" with love and kisses ALL the time! Fortunately Jacob still sleeps a lot, so I can spend a bit of time with DS1 but trying to juggle an attention-seeking toddler when BFing is a challenge all in itself!
Anyway, I'll jump back in later all being well to do "proper" personals. Stay cool those of you sweltering and stay safe if you're in a catastrophic fire zone.
Had Liam's 6 week health nurse visit today. We had the nicest nurse this time - stark contrast with the horrid woman we had last time. Liam's just over 5kg now, which makes me happy. Everything else was okay with him, apart from the fact that he lies with his head turned the same way all the time, so his head is developing a flat spot. We just need to encourage him to turn the other way as much as possible now.
The only other thing we need to focus on is his sleeping, especially during the day. The CHN said that at his age, he shouldn't be awake for more than an hour at a time (including feeding time). He's been awake during the day for 2-3 hours consistently, and getting grumpy because of it. We're trying to change his napping routine to see if it helps - mostly putting him in a quiet, dark room (we've had his bassinet out with us in the living room most of the time, just so we can keep an eye on him). Fingers crossed that it works - if he naps better during the day, he'll sleep better at night. He's been up every hour the last two nights, which gets exhausting.
Hi Rose - glad Liam's appointment went well, sounds like he's coming along fantastically! Sounds like you are feeling much better too which is great. Amelia has days when she's awake for more than an hour during the day as well so was wondering about that. She has her 6 week check with the child health nurse tomorrow as well so might ask about that too. She generally sleeps at night now between 5 and 6 hours, last night was 4 but I visited work yesterday for a few hours so it was pretty full on, I think she got overstimulated!
I went to visit the girls as I said, the house we were at today was not airconditioned and it's 35 in Perth today - it's going to be 42 on Sunday! Anyway it was pretty uncomfy, the girl whos house it was has 10 week old twins, a boy and a girl and a 19 month old girl, she's such a trooper AND she wants another! A real natural, I don't know how she does it, one's enough for me at the moment ha ha. We took another pic of all the bubs like we did last time, only problem was Amelia was bawling so she's going to be the only one who wasn't looking nice and quiet in the pic, typical! Amelia's the youngest out of the group anyway but they keep commenting how little she is, I didn't think she was overly small, I think it's just that she's long and skinny ha ha! She looks big to me!
As I said, tomorrow is mothers group, I will go a little earlier as it's Amelia's 6 week check with the health nurse, got the paed next week. It's so hot in Perth this week. Tomorrow will be revolting as well as it's only a small room and it's also not properly airconditioned, it has one of those little wall aircons that you can only feel if you stand in front of it. We're doing baby massage tomorrow too, great in the heat, mmmmm! Caught up with my swimming friends and their bubs today, was nice as always but the house was unairconditioned so was horribly hot and sweaty!
Kanda - so good to hear from you! Loved your birth story, thanks for sharing!
Rose - Great news that everything went well with the nurse. Sounds like things are going along well. Good luck with the new nap routine.
Willow - re: Infants' Friend and the gulping - Jack does that too and it seems to help him. I've also found it helps him sleep at night. Have you tried it yet?
Alison - Don't you hate those poo explosions? Jack had one at a cafe the other day when I went to have brunch with a girlfriend. It was everywhere and in the end even my friend had it on her!
Andie - 7.5hours! That's just showing off! Honestly, that's awesome. You're very lucky indeed. Jack is still doing the exact same hours, which aren't too bad but even an extra hour here or there would be nice!
ATM - had mother's group today and spent ages with the girls at one of their houses. Came home with one overtired bub (he wouldn't sleep!) and he was restless for the rest of the day. Have him here now in our bed trying to get him to sleep. He's been crying on and off and I just know it's because he was too overstimulated today. It sucks because it was so great to get out and see the girls. We can't win them all, can we?
Anyway, hope you're all doing well and speak tomoz.
