Alison - Try not to let the girl from work irritate you. Everyone is different, there's no rules, and if you try to compare you'll always find something that makes you question your intuition as a mother. Know that you're doing your best, and she's doing hers, and try to keep your distance if you can.
I'm sorry to hear about your milk supply. Maybe Rose's engorging lactation tea might help?
Hannah - I was just thinking about you too! It's great to have you back.
Hi everyone else! Sorry if I've missed a few posts, it seems that our babies are giving us more time on the computer these days.
AFM - Having a lovely day with the boy. He's been smiley and playing all morning, now sleeping, and hopefully will wake up for a feed soon. Have any of the exclusively BF'd bubs out there gone a long stretch without pooing? I read that it's normal for babies to go up to two weeks. Lord help you dealing with the first one after two weeks! Liam does at LEAST 4 a day, and they're beauties! This may be way TMI but it actually makes a Mum kinda proud. Ha ha!
sesame - Liam's gone for 3 days at the most without a poo, I think. And then what a poo it was! I don't worry about it, though, so long as he's breastfed, since it's pretty much impossible for bfed babies to get constipated.
Alison - Glad that you like your new pram! Gosh, you went out for a walk yesterday in the humidity? I went out for about ten minutes and about died from it! Was planning on going out today, but the humidity is worse. Bleh. And just ignore that girl. I *hate* the way some people need to compete. For the record, the ABA recommend what you said - until the baby regains his or her birth weight, they're not supposed to go more than 4 hours between feeds.
Hannah - Glad you've sorted the wind problem Do you have her crib/bassinet up on an angle as well? We've found that this really helps Liam.
suz - Yep, it's the oats that work as a galactologue - as does the brewer's yeast. I know a few people who take brewer's yeast capsules to keep their supply up, too.
AFM - Liam's being a booby monster atm - yesterday evening he was cluster feeding for the first time in a while, and then he did the same this morning. He's been chucking a lot, too, so I think he's having issues with figuring out how much he really needs to eat. It doesn't bother me so long as he doesn't complain, though it's kind of icky smelling like milk all the time
Hi Sesame - 4 poos a day far out!!!! Amelia poos pretty much every day, she can go a day without it but she is on formula as well so that's probably why. Even the first few weeks of exclusive BF'ing she only poo'd once or twice a day. Sounds like you have a pooing machine on your hands, typical boy......he'll be reading the paper while he does it soon.
Hi Rose - I guess that's why they say beer helps too, pity I don't drink beer ha ha. And I'm glad you said that about the ABA, as if a nurse would tell her 6.5 hours between feeds is fine for a 1 week old baby. Oh well, I was trying to help but she doesn't want to know so she can find out for herself. I've decided to ignore it, each to their own as they say! Yeah it was icky walking yesterday, I got so sticky and sweaty. I thought it was cooler today as it's overcast but I haven't been out yet so will find out shortly, I hate it when it's humid!
Well I thought I was going to have my all nighter ruined last night, fed Amelia and put her to bed at 9.00 pm but she woke up at 3.30 am.....I went into her room thinking I'd have to feed her but her eyes were still closed so I just popped her dummy in her mouth, put on her music and she went straight back to sleep until 7.00 am. Now all I need is to stop waking up myself, I'm so used to it now I can't not!!!! Amelia has the cutest denim dungarees on today from Pumpkin Patch, got them in the sale, they only had Newborn size left so she'll only probably get a couple of wears out of them. Oh and someone told me yesterday when your baby has lots of bubbles or foaming at the mouth that's a sign of wind, is that true? Amelia has just started bubbling at the mouth the last week but she doesn't seem bothered.
Best go get dressed, it's 10.30 am and I'm still in my jammies ha ha!

Alison - Just quickly, I read that the drooling and bubble blowing is the start of the "everything in the mouth" phase. Liam's become a dribble-guts too, it's totally normal.
On the drooling...Michael started drooling heaps maybe a couple of weeks ago, and bubbling at the mouth too. I'm glad to hear its normal! He's also taken to ramming his fists in his mouth and chewing on his thumb...can't be teething yet, can it?? Anyone else getting that?
Another question - some times (he hasn't done it for a few weeks, but did it today a couple of times) when he's asleep he can start an almighty cry...a really loud one. Just completely out of the blue, sometimes it wakes him up, other times he goes back to sleep (tho not for long). .... (can you believe he did it right now?? What are the odds!!!!). He's mega unsettled today and cranky...I'm really not sure whats wrong with him He was a complete angel yesterday, smiling, giggling, awake...just lovely.
Alison - I think our bubs are poo-twins! Mine is usually once a day but can go a day without as well. Must be the formula. Which formula are you using btw?
Ok, that will have to do for now...sorry girls...he's just really unsettle atm. So hard in this sticky weather...having to hold him and pick him up is uncomfortable for both of us I think.
Hannah, I noticed the same with Eva..When she has not pooed in a while she has worse reflux - I guess it comes out of the other end...Eva used to have those little silent burps too and it was never enough but with the technique I use now she lets out huge burps - scares me sometimes and I can feel her whole chest deflate...It is too bad it does not work for Amelia. The poor thing...Do you also make sure not to put her on her back half hour after eating, sleep her on her side...also Rose is right about lifting the pram/bed a bit - I roll a towel inder her matress and stroller pad so she is always up and even have a pillow for her changing table to keep her head elevated - I found this helps a lot....and are you avoiding spicey, and acidic foods (even tomatoes?) and dairy? This is what my osteo told me to do and it worked really well - I ate salad dressing with dairy in it for two days in a row without knowing and she was very gassy again, so did you try to cut out the lactose? I also avoid the peppers, tomatoes, oranges etc...and I find that it helped a lot. She never cries hysterically anymore, just whines a bit and usually I pick her back up and she lets out another burp and it's done. Good luck. I really hope you find a solution...You can also maybe try an osteopath that speciatlized in babies? Ours adjusted her neck and no joke, she was calm the day after and started pooing a lot more often! You are right about this forum - I love that no one judges. I enjoy the suggestions and experiences from everyone else, but whatever my decision is, I am happy that you girls never judge! Aren't we lucky ?
Sesame - the osteo told me not to worry unless it is over a week and you're getting 4 a day...Wow, Liam!!!! He said that bf babies don't have a lot of waste so don't poo as often sometimes and not to stress unless it has been more than a week - I worried about that since Eva poos every 5 days or so. He explained (the pediatrician too) that as long as it is not hard, they are fine! He also said they can poo as much as after every meal...So don't worry! He explained that breast milk is so easy to digest that it usually comes out pretty easily in most babies...Sounds like you have a champ on your hands and at least you are sure he is getting enough to eat! I wish Eva would give me once a day - she would be more chill!
Rose, sounds like your cutie is pushing up supply ! I get you on the milk thing...but better to smell like milk than throw up...Eva seems to have a radar for when I have just put on a new shirt I have all the baby einstein lullaby CD and classics (betthoven, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi etc...) as well as some Cds a cousin got me where they sing and put her name into all the songs in hebrew...Or I play some pop or Bob Marley (she loves Bob Marley!) or the beatles or even some Beyonce and stuff like that...Basically whatever I listen too...I played baby einstein for her from when I was 4 months along so she calms down with it. I usually play her music during bathtime and during breakfast while she is winding down for her 9am nap...Sundays is always reggae though!!
Alsion, I don't think I ever heard that about the wind, but eva also started discovering her drool a few weeks back (I have the senior citizen baby in this thread...hehe). And man, she has found her hands and has started nibbling on her sleeves etc...And she bubbles sometimes at the mouth but it is usually when she plays around with her tongue or makes brrrrrr noises etc...I never heard that can mean gas...I have to look into that!
Beany, Eva has been doing the same for weeks...I keep telling DH to watch out, because soon she will discover that she can put stuff in her mouth! It is starting already...She even refuses the dummy and shoves her fist in her mouth instead! I get the screaming rarely but I think it is nightmares...I have a frined with a baby 3 weeks younger than mine who does it ALL the time. She just cries out but stays asleep. I read that the stimulation from the day can cause that, but it is nothing scary for them just a way to release stress, sort of like having a little nightmare. They get sort of overloaded during the day and release it by crying at night or by crying out in their sleep etc...My friend's baby does it very very often to the point where she can differentiate which cries are sleep cries and which mean she has woken up without even looking at her...
AFM Eva slept a whopper last night!!! I got her bathed and in bed by 8...She ate at 7 before her bath then I kept waiting for her to wake up (was in bed with a book)...by 11 nothing so I fell asleep...the I woke up at 1:00, nothing, 2:30, nothing, 3:00, nothing...she finally woke up for a feed at 5AM - I could not believe it! My boobs were like footballs though and she only ate one side (she usually drains two) and a bit from the other, which I gave her to relieve some of the pressure until her morning feed...then diaper change (wasn't even very wet) then back to sleep until 8:30!!!! She had a nice big feed this morning (not like her usualy every hour nibbles) and back to bed at 9:30! She is sleeping soundly now.
When I told DH he got so happy and said, oh I see the light at the end of the tunnel approaching! I won't get to excited just yet. If this goes on for five days straight, I'll start believine it!
It is snowing massively again here today stuck at home again. All the buses are not running and the accidents are the only thing being announced on the news...I won't risk going out since I have nothing that important to do - Instead am catchin gup on laundry and organizing the house.
Hi BS - ha ha the senior citizen in the thread I'm glad you said that because Amelia has just started sucking on her hands too and boy does she drool, her clothes get soaked!! Obviously it's just a stage then, phew, I thought I might have a drooler on my hands, especially after being told she has a small chin by the paed, I thought it might've been that ha ha.
Gotta run, dinner awaits, yummy beef stir fry tonight, nice and healthy - DH is getting the cooking going while I have a shower so best get that in quickly!
