Oh Poor Harry Willow, those coughs sound terrible don't they. I just wish there was something natural for them to take, maybe there is who knows, I just wish Amelia could deal with the night times like she does the day. Tonight I'm going to put the heating on, her room has been 16/17 degrees the last couple of nights and while she has the grobag and everything I'm wondering if the cold air is not helping her with her cough. I just don't like having it too warm but if it sits around 21 that's what it is normally on a decent day anyway. We'll see if that helps, I bloody hope so, not only do I want her to be better of course but I don't know how many more of these nights I can handle, I'm too old for this lol. It's funny how quickly you forget what having a newborn is like, I think we must block that bit out lol! Oh well, I'll be doing it all again so guess I'd better get used to it!
Sorry Alison missed your post. I would warm the room if you can I think if the air is a little warmer it helps,Harry's(our) room is so small the vaporiser seems to warm it a couple of degrees anyway, which I forgot to put on last night as long as the heater doesn't dry the air out that can irritate the cough more, but you've got the vaporiser so it will be all good for a better night.
Just popping in quickly to share this, because I'm dying of shock here.
Not only has Liam started sleeping through the night (last night was another night without a feed overnight), he's just settled himself to sleep for a nap. I plonked him down in his crib after changing him so I could go and get some washing off the line, and when I came back in, he was asleep sucking his thumb. Pardon me while I die of shock again. This is literally the first time he's ever gone to sleep without feeding or being rocked.
Also - I weighed him today, and he's lost weight. He's been dropping steadily for the last three weeks or so - he was almost up to 8kg at one point, but now is almost back down to 7kg. I don't know whether to be worried about it or not. He has gotten way more active - scooting around and rolling everywhere - and he seems to be completely well otherwise. And he's still wetting a decent number of nappies a day and pooing somewhat regularly (we will not talk about the stinky one he had this morning!). He still has a good appetite for breastmilk and sometimes solids (some days he'll wolf three portions, though today he hasn't wanted any of his solids). If he keeps losing, I'll take him to the doctor for a checkup, just don't know if I should be worried.
I'll be back later on for personal replies, sorry for the selfish post.
Hi Rose - wow that's incredible, yay for you! I think you'll find now he's getting more sleep he's settled more, sleep breeds sleep and it also makes them more relaxed, it's part of why I think I've been successful in having Amelia sleep through the night from early on, I was quite strict with feeding and sleeping times but I did it on purpose and it has paid off. Mind you, I really am starting to think that you have stolen my sleep lol....Amelia has been up and down all week with this cold and it's killing me! But seriously, I'm really pleased for you, you will be feeling on top of the world now am I right! As for Liam losing weight, hmmm, not sure about that, I would keep an eye on it though, I would expect their weight gain to slow down but not sure about losing it. The wet nappies are a good indication he's getting enough food so maybe it's because he's moving around more. I haven't weighed Amelia in a while, might go pop her on the Wii Fit again and see, I'm curious now! xx
Hi Rose Sounds like he's pretty healthy to me so I wouldn't stress too much, like you said just keep an eye on it. WOOHOO with sleeping and self settling I'm hoping I have the same success when we can put Harry in his own room, which could be next week
Rose, I think the feeds he is dropping at night also have something to do with it along with the up in activity. I am so happy for you, you don't know I told you his own room would help him wonders - same thing happened to Eva I am so happy for you!!! I think the drop is ok since he is not night feeding, but just keep an eye on it. I am sure it will stabilize and start going up again. I am so excited for you about all this!
Alison, maybe you should try a stronger aspirator? The electric one I have Eva hates but it gets EVERYTHING out of there and I find it helps...also maybe you should take her to the doc - My paed told me that if the mucus coming out of her nose is not clear and runny that the sinuses might be infected and gave me antibiotic drops for Eva which really helped clear it up...maybe she has a sinus infection which is why it won't go away? Do you use physio water in her nose? It is awful to put in there but it liquifies everything and then you suck it right out...Just be sure to put her head sideways, then squeeze an entire tube up each nostril - you wait a bit then suck everything out...It works wonders! DH and I had bad sinuses as kids (I had tonsils out and he had a childhood full of clogged noses and treatments) so I keep a close eye on her nose and go to the doc if it has not cleared up in a while...I would warm the room a bit too - I try to keep Eva's room at 19/20 but it is so warm here that it is usually at 23 at the mo but she only sleeps with a light muslin blanket...It might not be too cold for her when she is sleeping but maybe the cold hits her when you get her out of bed and change her? I would def go up a few degrees if possible. If she is in a warm humid room her nose will feel better....
Lani - yay for DH helping! I told you, they are insecure and scared but as long as you make him do it while patiently answering all his questions and helping when necessary he will step up and prob start enjoying it! A glass of wine and the girlies always helps! Glad to hear that you seem to be coming out of the rut.
Carmey, good on you for going back to something you love! It will do wonders for you and DH had better do his part I am glad he is trying to step up and help. I do hope you guys communicate a bit more from her on and that everything works out. I am sure just going out to run and care for your body will help you loads with stress and emptying your head for a bit each week.
Willow, here's hoping Harry gets over it quick...
Kawa, still bleeding, no wonder you feel preg! your hormone must be all over the place. Be sure to check that out with a doc.
AFM, Eva tried to stay up late again last night but I rocked her to sleep for half an hour and she went down at 730pm - she has been resisting so much....The day before she was asleep in my arms and the MIL came in for her babysitting duties and the second Eva saw her she was all excited again and stayed up until 930! She woke up this morning for a 430am feed though
It is the one year anniv of my cousin's death today (not sure if you guys remember but I had to fly to israel during my preg last year for that whole mess), so I am a bit mopey and sad. I loved him so much and he was only 23...I am sad not to be with my family in NYC for the memorial but at least I'll be over there in a bit.
Looking forward to a nice weekend with my little darling. I hope this weekend is the crawling weekend! She is 7 months tomorrow!!!!!
Alison You reminded me, there is a natural cold treatment, google "Brauers" i got some of the teething relief stuff they do and I'm sure there's a cold one...
wow ladies... can I just PLEASE just pop in and say hi! ..I know some have been having a bit of a rough trot lately....but this is what it's all about being a mum..taking the good with the bad..I know that everything get's totally erased the moment Sienna smiles at me and the other day Lila said 'I love you too' after I told her I loved her.. that's what I live for. Such precious moments.
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoooxoxoxoxoxoxo xoxo x infinity...

Hi Lani - I'm glad you're feeling better and had a great night, well done Jett that's awesome going! Boo to AF rearing it's ugly head though, you've been lucky to last this long, I got mine around 3 months after having Amelia grrrr.
AFM - I had a much better night too, hope I don't jinx myself but Amelia only fussed once around the usual 3.00 am time, I just patted her bum and popped in the dummy and she went back to sleep - I didn't have to pick her up and cuddle her or anything, yay! She was breathing much easier last night too, I put the heating on to 21 as it's been 16 in her room the last few nights and also bought a new tube of Eukybear Rub - I think the other tube wasn't as good as it was pretty old and I gave her 2 of the Hylands Teething tablets, normally I only give her 1 but I didn't realise you're meant to give 2 so not sure if that helped as I know she's teething as well, that 2nd tooth is so close, you can see it in her photo I put up yesterday but it's not popped through the skin just yet, I reckon the next day or two it will! Typically though I woke all night expecting her to so I still didn't get a very good sleep but that's ok, as long as she's sleeping better I'll be able to relax more when she's done another night or two like that. Fingers crossed she's on the mend, she certainly seems less blocked today, still a little nasally sounding but not as bad as previous days. Thank goodness, a week of it for her is enough poor petal.
Well, Amelia's down for her morning nap so I must go have a shower and wash my hair. I really need to make an effort to lose the rest of this weight, I'm so close but feel so far because I've been so slack lately with exercise and this week I've been so tired I've just had the "I don't care" attitude and munched out on chocolate. I'm too scared to weigh myself this week!
Hope everyone is well and has a lovely weekend.
xx
Hi girls, sorry his might be a bit of a selfish post.
I've had a really bad couple of days. Ok, so Wed night was the usual waking every hour after midnight...then he slept 30 mins for his morning sleep (usually at least 40), then 30 mins again for his lunch sleep (usually at least 40 or an hour)...by this point I was exhausted and frustrated and angry. I was so upset and didn't think I could face just being home for the rest of the afternoon, so I thought I'd go for a walk, hoping that Michael might fall asleep in the pram. But as I was walking he was wide awake (happy, just not sleeping!) and I started thinking all these negative things....and then there I was walking along a busy street, tears streaming down my face (I WISH I had put sunglasses on!!), snot running out my nose...what a sight. I was just wishing he would sleep more, why isn't he sleeping, I'm tired...etc, etc.
Then Thurs night he actually slept heaps better...we decided that when he woke up we'd leave him for a few minutes to see if he self-settles (tried that before but it backfired and ended up with him awake for an hour). But it worked, and he only woke up twice, I think. But then during the day again, it was 40 min morning sleep and 40 min afternoon sleep. I was upset again, but then pulled myself together and thought, right, ok, just means he's gone back to having 3 sleeps again, thats ok. So I thought, well, I'll go to the shopping centre and walk around, hopefully he'll drift off. Big mistake. He was wide awake, happy at first, but then he was trying to fall asleep and I think either he was too hot or it was too noisy or what and he kept crying. So that got me crying...and again, found myself with my eyes full of tears, walking around the shops trying to keep calm. I was so stressed and strung out...eventually went back to the car. Called DH as I wanted to be sure he was going to be home from work on time because I needed a break, but he was running late and was going to pick up our new TV. At this point I was sat in the car and burst into tears, trying to talk to him (you know when your voice goes all funny when you try and talk and cry at the same time?)...there was a woman getting into her car in the car opposite me, Lordy knows what she was thinking. And after that I was just having all these horrible thoughts of how come everybody else copes, whats wrong with me? Why do I get so upset over him not sleeping? Why do I have no friends? I feel like I have no life any more...blah blah blah...it just kept spiralling making me more sad. I haven't cried so hard since I had to put Michael on formula. I really thought I was having some kind of break down. I did end up feeling better by the end of the night - because I saw that Michael was fine with that little sleep, he wasn't cranky, he was his lovely normal self, and even fell asleep on DH shoulder! Hasn't done that in months!
Anyway, feeling so much better today....isn't it amazing how the mind can mend itself like that? I was really expecting to feel just as bad today. Prolly helped that he only woke up twice last night too.
Sorry to unload that onto you all...I just need to talk about it I guess.
Alison - I had a look at the BabyBliss website and I think I'll really like that book...I've actually ordered it from the Book Depository! The routine I saw looked perfect. Looking forward to reading it! What are Hylands Teething Tablets? Oh, and there is something herbal you can give babies...Brauers Cold & Flu Relief. The Pharmacist recommended it, althoguth it says from 2years+, you can give to babies, they just can't advertise that you can. We didn't end up using it tho, so I can't tell you how it works. Glad Amelia had a better night! She's such a trooper!
Lani - so glad you had a better night too! And well-done for DH doing the bath! Thats great stuff!
Rose - you have no idea how happy I am when I read that Liam is doing so well with his sleeping! You've had it tough for a long time, I'm so glad things are getting easier for you!
BS - sorry to hear its the anniversary of their deaths...I remember that happening.
Hope everyone had a nice night

: accidentally posted before I was finished!!
Hi Beany - oh no don't you ever feel like you have no friends, that's what we're here for! I'm always available to catch up if you ever want to in between our BB catch-ups, also, do you have my mobile? You can always call me if you feel like a chat. Truth be known I've been feeling the same this week so you are completely normal! I think when we're used to our babies routine and sleeping and then they don't do it it's a bit of a shock to the system. I spent most nights this past week crying as I was pacing the halls with a sick and tired baby. Crying is a great release really and I think it's necessary in order to move past that feeling. I too had a better night so yet again our bubs are doing the same things! lol. Re the Hylands teething tabs, you can buy them from the baby section at most chemists, they're homeopathic tablets that dissolve on their tongue instantly, they are fantastic and I highly recommend them. My friend put me onto them, just make sure you give him 2 at a time like the bottle says, not 1 because I found the 1 wasn't enough. They're meant to help with the restlessness that comes with teething. Last night was for the first time I gave her two, not sure if it was those or a combination of everything but I'll take it thanks! Amelia won't sleep in the pram at the shops anymore either, on Thursday when I went shopping with my mum and sister she only slept for 30 mins so she only had 2 hours sleep all day, she managed to last because I kept her mind active, I think they can survive on less sleep but the key is to keep them busy otherwise they hit the brick wall, bit like us I guess! Anyway, just call me anytime, if you don't have my mobile let me know and I'll send it via FB messaging. You're a fab mum and you have such a gorgeous boy, don't ever question yourself or I'll slap you! lol xx
Hi BS - I've been meaning to reply re the anniversary of your cousin's death, I can't believe it's been a year, I clearly remember that like it was yesterday. I hope the family are coping ok. Special hugs to you babe. xx
Well best run, I've gotta get to the shops while Missy is awake, while she's feeling better I want to make sure she gets proper sleep to really kick it in the butt!
Oh beany sending lots of hugs and love your way. I must be the week for having meltdowns. You are a fantastic mum and sleep deprivation is the worst. Chin up babe we are your friends and here for you. We are the cyber shoulders to cry on.
Just a quick post as I am in the car on the way home from Netball go to release some stress playing today and we won!!
Will try and long back on when I get home as starting to feel ill from looking down.
