OP  my motto, regardless of kids age is: pick your battles!
seriously if the dummy works give her the dummy, unless its a huge issue overnight, you can take it off her later on! i hope tonight is better for you.
tarkine i hope DH gets off his butt and finds some work, otherwise he'll have all our feet swiftly kicking him up the bum!
shell sounds like things are going well there! is it a good thing that DF is going back to work? i mean in a good way!!
holly is the heamageoma starting to shrink do you know?
nai hows J's nose tonight?
ali :o on the slap on DD! id be shocked too! maybe see BG in the centrelink thread about the FTB, she should be able to help you out!
-
-
OP - we are having sleep battles at the moment so I feel your pain.
Ali - I would have been shocked too. A 4 year old should know better! Grrr!
Miss J is going down ok during the day - still only 40min sleeps but I am now able to pat her to sleep rather than feed her to sleep which is a big improvement. However at night she does her bedtime routine and goes down at about 7pm and then wakes 40 mins later and refuses to go back to sleep!! The last 2 nights she has been up until 10pm. Panadol seems to have absolutely no effect on her at all - even when teething it didn't even seem to do anything to her pain :( I have been using saline drops in her nose as she was stuffy but she doesn't really enjoy that.
I don't know what to do with her - she must be so tired as she is missing out on 2 hours sleep a night and isn't making up for it during the day at all.
-
nai have you tried a vaporiser??
-
Nai- It sounds like she doesn't think it is bedtime yet, and is treating it like another day nap. Maybe try not to let her sleep later that 5pm?? I am not sure if yo uare alreading doing this though... It is frustrating when they do this as you need some time to yourself as well.
last night I was in bed asleep by 9:30, but I woke 4 hours later and couldn't get back to sleep! I am now so used to not sleeping more than 4 hours stright, that when I do I feel like I am oversleeping. J didn't have a nightmare last night, so much better there, and E slept from 7 till 5:30, then back to bed till 9am, so pretty good here last night. DH is oncall tonight, so I will prob have kids awake as well as the pager going off. I HATE call nights.
Shell - It sounds like Em is doing so much better dummy free. E has now been 5 days dummy free. She sorta gave it up on her own. Just ddin't want it one night, so I didn't push it, and she settled beautifully. She also is sleeping loger withouut it.
OP - It sounds like you are having a tough time. I hope it gets better soon.
-
Meg - no good on waking up! I did the same and was awake from 3.45 until after 5. It is soooo annoying! I think you are right about her thinking it is a day sleep. She has been waking at around 3.30pm and I have been keeping her up until bedtime so maybe I need to squeeze another catnap in there and put her to bed a bit later.
Jols - I don't have a vaporiser :( Can you hire them? I don't really want to spend the money before I know that it works.
-
not sure hun! maybe ring a chemist, i paid $50 for ours and figured it would get alot of use over the years!! maybe see if a friend has one tp borrrow
i let millie nap right up until 6pm! as long as shes up by then she has a bath, boob and is in bed by 7pm, so id squeeze another in too
-
Hi everyone :hello:
Ali, you are so sweet! We all have the right to whinge lol any sleep deprivation is bad! How horrible that the boy hit little Ash :o As much as I would have loved to scream at him, it actually reminds me of my brother when he was younger. He has a type of autism and was such a terror child, but the cutest looking kid ever! Old ladies would come up to him and my mum and want to chat and he would abruptly scream in people's faces. My mum was so embarrassed! He must have looked so rude lol. Once at church play group (he would have been maybe 8?) he kicked another boy and made him cry for no reason. It would still make me mad if it happened to my child but at least if the parents or in your case, grandparents, are apologetic then what can you do!
Shell, yes I'm waiting for that day too!! Everytime I put him down I think "hmm maybe this is it and he will sleep for a few hours!" How are the girls today?
Tarkine, I hope your dh finds some work. When dp needed money a few years ago and had no career in mind and no experience, he got a job at safeway (woolworths) packing during the nights. As far as I know, the money was okay!
AJP, I thought it was shrinking, but now when I look it looks just as big! At least it's not bigger I suppose! How is Millie today?
Nai, hope the night sleeps improve. Good that you don't have to feed to sleep anymore during the day :)
Megie, isn't that always the way! Bub's is sleeping but you can't sleep. Hope it is a good night tonight
OP, huge  I say whatever works. I feed or rock L to sleep, there's no way he's self settle.
Hi to everyone else!
AFM, this morning around 3am, I woke up to sharp stabbing pains in my left boob and it was rock hard and sore and full - L hadn't fed off it since yesterday afternoon and I was so tired last night I let him sleep sucking on the right the whole night. My poor bb's! So I tried to put him on the left but he wouldn't suck so I had to get out the pump and express - I got 150ml! It's now in the fridge and it's good because I can get him minded he can have a bottle on Friday when I have to go somewhere not baby friendly. Yay!
Also had L's skin specialist follow up appointment today. He asked how the medication was going and I told him I haven't noticed much improvement. He gave me three options... 1) continue with his medication for a bit longer to see if it kicks in
2) have L take cortison orally as well as the stuff he's already taking
3) inject it into his nose instead, which lasts longer than taken orally and the ENT specialist administer it
We agreed to just wait and see if his condition improves with the stuff he's already taking, considering he's only been having it for a couple of weeks. Plus, dp wasn't there to consult with. Doc said to email him at any time in the following days/weeks if I change my mind and want to take further action and he will arrange it. Is this the first time a patient has called the shots? lol
Still haven't heard anything about his oxygen monitoring - that was organised by the ENT specialist, so the guy I saw today didn't know anything about it.
My mum came with me today and was saying to L's specialist how even after having 4 children herself, she's never seen such an unsettled baby...poor L! :( My sister's auntie (half sister, so non-related side, not my auntie) came over the other day and L was whinging and it wasn't even a bad cry and she said "oh if mine were like that I would go insane!" I was like "gee, this isn't even bad!"
So anyway, L finally slept at 3:00pm - first day sleep of the day! I'm pooped! He just woke up about 20 mins ago, so it was an okay sleep. Dp has him now. Got my group certificate in the post so I might do our tax returns and get some cash back
Gee I feel like I write so much about L, so whoever can be bothered reading it all, you probably feel as though you live here  SORRY!
Have a good night all xox
-
Holly- You are such a fantastic mum to L and don't worry about what other ppl say, every one is always comparing babies so much it drives me insane, we all know that are soooooo different. Glad the specialist seems to listen....sounds like you are geeting good advice.. I hope it is in the not so distant future that you finally see an improvement must be a worry sometimes. LOL about the one side boobie, 150 mls is great effort!!! Do you use a hand pump???
Meg -sounds like you have had great nights!!! Must be fantastic, i understand about the 4 hours, we get so use to just catnapping our bodies dojn't now what hits it if we get any more than that...a, we have good days but I really need to work on the night, a bit of it is me though I get a bit lazy during the night and co sleep sometimes...
Nai- I hope DD2 gets better soon, nothing worse when they are not sleeping properly, good luck with trying to track down a vaporsier.
AJP- Hope the girls are good, Thanks for the photo's they are great...
ALI- Hope everything goes ok in Canberra..thinking of you
Tarkine- Glad ur standing your ground in regards to job and DH....in these times don't think he can be too picky...chin up darl
OP- I gave up trying to get rid of dummy, it was in the too hard basket and now I think he actually likes it... only has it to get to sleep during the day and refuses it at night???
Hi to everyone else.
I need some advice on trying to get L to stop snack feeding... he is only having one side a t a time and refuses to drink anymore...I want to try and stretch out to 3 hourly feeds which he seems to do but just one side at a time...He seems content inbetween feeds but still wakes overnight.. I think the snack feeding 24/7 is the reason...I offfered him a EBM bottle last night and he refused.. he has taken a bottle a couple of times but last night just was not interested.. I was hoping it would top him up so he would sleep longer no such luck.....not sure what to do...he is not a light weight so he is getting enough...
anyway still having sleep overs in our room. DD comes in about 1am every night and sleeps on her little matteress and L is still in our room. so we all camp out in our room, think I might steal DD's bed and leace DH to deal with the kids, might get some sleep then!!!;)
-
I forgot to say, sent my Avatar request yesterday so look out for it!!!
-
Holly - what a mega post. You know one day when L is older you are going to tell him about what a terror of a baby he is, and realised that he has turned into a delightful child.
Hang in there.
ETA - pINNY - WILL LOOK OUT FOR YOUR NEW av. Oops caps got stuck on. I don't really know what to say, except, think of ways to distract until the next feed. Might be best to start trying maybe on the weekend when there is another adult at home that can take over, as he will probably only want boobies from you.
-
Just a quick post, our night routine has been successful so far, yes I know very early into the evening but so far so good
Woke up from last sleep at 5.15pm, cluster fed until 7pm, massage, boobie and bed, woke at 8.30 for feed fed both sides, straight back to bed settled himself, normally we would have to settle him for at this time of night stirred after 40 mins and resettled without anything....Yay!!! Lets hope this is the start to a good night...Going to bed myself...see in all in morning
-
Holly - I think ur doing a great job with L, well done with the EBM.
Pinny - how did the sleep go? Can't help with the catnapping thing... Alex will do his longest sleep first then gradually get shorter, so he still wakes during the night.
AFM - well ratbag baby won't go to sleep on his own last night, so slept the night with me in the bed. I feel terrible this morning, hardly got any quality sleep and achy. Also dreamt I was playing Quidditch, with Alex on the broom stick!! That will teach me for watching harry potter before going to bed!
-
Tarkine- Pmsl! Maybe thats why you felt achey, its a tough game to play! You win?
Pinny- DD1 was a snack feeder and tbh I couldn't stop it til she was well into solids, even at 6 months we still were feeding at least 3hrly overnight. Once she started sleeping better in the day she didn't snack as much too, maybe at 7 months, I tried to stop it but found I didn't have the energy to argue. She was a real full on booby girl nothing could get her away from them! Hope you find something that works.
Holly- Sounds like a nice specialist giving you options rather than just saying that you have to do something. Did he say with the medication what time frame to give it to expect to see an improvement? Yay on the expressing, thats a fantastic amount!
Nai- I got mine for $36, I not sure if its the vapouriser that worked or if the cold had just run its course but she was alot better after first night. I put on a chair next to her so the steam would reach her. How is she today? Any improvement? And with the sleeps if Em wakes at 3:30-4ish I squeeze in a catnap cause she can't last til 7 otherwise, usually we just give her a cat nap in her bouncer that way she dosn't sleep long but enuff to hold her til bedtime.
Meg- thats great she gave it up on her onw, alot easier to get rid of it now then when they are older, friends I know toddlers take 5 to bed with them so I'm glad I don't have to go down that road.
Mum coming over today, gotta go do shopping, gonna take Ash off her bedtime bottle only cause I need the bottle for Emily so going to buy her a "special" sippy cup she can have for her bedtime milk, let her pick one out. She'll be fine tho, I don't think we'll have any trouble.
-
I got 4 x 40 min sleeps out of Miss J yesterday and she woke from the last one at 5ish so I put her to bed as normal at 7pm and she slept until 2.45am! I think that was the problem - she needed an extra nap in there and was thinking her bed time was a nap time! She's still snuffly and woke at 4.20am being unable to breath so I brought her in to bed with me and she slept until 7am. I might have to check out vapouriser prices locally I think.
-
Awesome Nai! Obviously she was treating bedtime as a nap.
Have fun with your mum Shell - J still wants a bottle at bedtime. Cant be bothered with getting rid of it atm.
tarkine - I hope you had a better night last night.
DH pager went off at1am. woke me, then E woke upset at 1:30. Managed to settle her back till 3am. Then she slept till 9am.
She has been a pooing machine since her vaccinations. Do you think there is a link? She did have the rota vax
-
Megie - I was told that was a side effect of the rota vax. Be extra vigilent with hand washing after nappy changes!
-
i was told the same meg, lasts for a few weeks from memory
nai how is J today?
pinny how did L go overnight??
holly your doing such a fab job hun!!!
ARM all good here!! night sleeps are going well, days are all over the shop, she slept for almost 3 hours yesterday but big sis wasnt home so that probably helped!! had toddler group today and she had two small sleeps there, its hard cos its so noisy!
-
talk about thread killer!!
-
I am coming to post soon just watching masterchef :)
