Pinny - I think I have it sussed. DP just doesn't feel as confident with Miss J as most of the time I am doing things with her and ask him to look after DD1. So when it was just DD1 he got to be more hands on when she was smaller so I just need to build his confidence a bit more this time around.
-
Nai- I agree 100% I do the same always just get him to deal with DD whilst I deal with DS, I am going to start to get him to help more with DS too... Coz when DD was this age he looked after her a whole day by himself whilst I worked had to feed EBM and everything he was super Dad then, he even prepared dinner and did the washing... Super Dad has been on a big holiday of late though, might ask when his coming back. I do miss him.
-
Yep Thats exact what I've said to Df cause same thing here, he sorta does most for Ash and I do Em, even getting ready for bed he baths and brushes her teeth while I bath and feed Emily. With Ash he was hands on from day 1 whereas this time round he hasn' had much opportunity cause he'd prefer to stick with what he knows.
Em still not liking solids even with pear mixed with little rice cereal, clamps her mouth shut and screws up face. Tomor I'll whip up some pumpkin and see how that goes.

sort of same here with DH feeling more comfy with DD1 though we alternate who dresses which DD after bath so he gets to spend time with each after work!
i just read the most gut wrenching story in the paper tonight :( i was in tears from the second paragraph, story about a couple and their baby girl who was stillborn :(
i honestly cant believe that millie is 6 months old next tuesday :o , will try her with some pumkin on wednesday when DH is home!
-
AJP- I read it too, so sad I cried all the way through it.....I just can't start to imagine what those poor people are going through...
-
just saying hi!
Had the Christening today, so wil lbe back tomorrow.
-
Morning ladies
Sorry for the extended absence - life has been full on, had two weeks break up in Cairns and then have been flat out since our return. My good friend's hen's on the weekend, I am bridesmaid for her in a few weeks so the weekend was huge, organised the whole thing with two other friends, started at 11am and went thru til 1pm the next day!
Yes I stayed out in the city and left DD home with DH!
Gasp!
Need to jump in the shower but wanted to say hi and will try and pop back in later, have a relatively quiet day today (= recovery time...)
-
hi girls
ajp and pinny- i read that story too and bawled. made me feel so lucky to have my boys.
-
Sorry for no personals but I dont know how much more i can take of this no sleep stuff. Everyone says it will get eaier but when? What am I doing wrong? :(
I was in tears last night. I almost lost it at DD and I feel terrible. (Dont worry I would never hurt her) but I could feel myself at breaking point.
I am so so tired that my eyeballs actually hurt! I will be having a sleep whenever Ash does today as I dont know how I will function otherwise.
-
 Ali - I hope things get better for you soon. It's so hard when they don't sleep.
I must admit I took a bit of a hard line with Miss J and it seems to have worked (touch wood). If she wakes between bedtime and 10pm she doesn't get fed, just gets held close and rocked back to sleep. The same for if she wakes between 10pm and 4am. Since I started doing that she has been sleeping for 10 - 12 hours straight at night :hide: (except for Saturday night when we went away but she was in an unfamiliar place etc). I don't leave her to cry but make sure she is being comforted and feels secure at all times - I just don't feed her. She goes back to sleep in a minute or two now.
I don't expect that this would work for everyone and obviously it is hard as they are still crying when you hold them but both of my girls have responded to it. I did it with DD1 when she was 6months and waking during the night so I thought I would try with Miss J as it was getting ridiculous. She is sleeping much better during the day too now.

Ali, I feel your pain. I have pretty much given up trying to get L to sleep in his cot so we co-sleep full time. It is a real pita as I hardly get any sleep, he is so restless and wiggles and squirms all night and I'm so stiff and sore in the morning from being in the one position all night  He is sucking almost all night so he is literally attached to me! Sometimes I will wake up and he has detached and I try and move him over a bit and take my arm from underneath him so I can at least change positions lol but he wakes up most times. I almost lost it too yesterday. L would not be put down, didn't want to feed and I couldn't even hold him properly because he kept stiffening up and trying to slide away! Do any other babies do this? I had no idea what he wanted and I seriously felt like putting him on the floor and running away and letting him scream :wall: I admit I had a few choice words to him which I regret...for pete's sake he is a baby and here I am getting angry at him! You know the other bad thing is I am the only one who can settle him so it's not like I can give him to DP for a while - and he would definitely lose it. He wouldn't harm him in any way but he would get so frustrated and he'd be cursing and just leave him screaming or something and babies pick up on this stress!
Day sleeps are worse because I can't get anything done as I am either constantly resettling or he wakes up in next to no time. At one stage he was having some decent naps of 1-2 hours but now I am lucky to get 45 minutes. He might have 3 or 4 naps a day, but it's just the time it takes to get him down and then resettling him that really makes it difficult to get anything done. I am hoping that now that I've stopped his medication it might make a difference as some of the side effects included irritability and sleeplessness!
Seriously, if you ever need to vent just pm me - we can vent together! Some babies are just not good sleepers (and L to the extreme). Sleeping through would be a mirical!
I can't believe I am typing this while L has been asleep for an hour :o Okay, trust me when I say that this is NOT NORMAL!! I will come back to report tonight how his day sleeps have gone...maybe this is the start of something good...or not!
OP, glad you had a good time away!
-
Ali & Holly- It must be so hard with babies that don't sleep, I don't have any real advice but to hang in there......it will get easier..Great that you can vent in here, that's what we are all here for. Hope you both get some rest while they are sleeping today..
Nai- Think I might try your advice tonight. L is a great day sleeper so I know he can do it. Will let you know how I go.
Ocean- Glad your back. sounds like you've been a busy bee. Enjoy the wedding celebrations, so jealous of your night out...I need one of those.
Hi everyone esle
-
ali or holly- if you want me to post you a couple of books to borrow- 'sleeping like a baby' and 'no cry sleep solution' just let me know. you may be able to get some ideas out of them?
ali- how many times is she waking? what doyou do to resettle her?
-
Ali and Holly - It is so tough, but trust me as a second time mum, it will become a distant memory before oyu know it.
OP - Hi! Great that you got a night out to yourself, did bub behave while you were gone?
Nai - I sort of do what you do. E often wakes but resettles herself. She sings for abit, but sometimes she then gets annoyed and I get her and give her a feed. I might try your advice, Give her a cuddle for a while then put her back down.
We are having a quiet day here today. We are so tired after the Christening yesterday. I am that tired that my legs even hurt. I am still in my PJ's. I don't think I will bother getting dressed today.
-
HI GIRLS!!!!!
oh i have missed you all so much!!! internet just came back on today.. pffft yeah 4 weeks later... ANYWAY i havnt read anything yet but i can see you girls have been very chatty!!!!!
talk to you all later tonight xxxx
-
Ali and Holly - sending you guys a massive  Don't feel bad about feeling so frustrated! It happens to everyone I think. You both sound like you're dealing with difficult sleepers really well.
Ali I hope you got some sleep today. I've just bought the no cry sleep book (waiting for it to arrive in the mail) that Rainy recommended cause I heard it was excellent. We have some issues with DS but nothing compared to what you sound like you're going through atm. If you need anything - housework done, DD taken up the shops while you rest etc just let me know and I'll jump in the car
Nai - When you don't feed DD of an evening, is she missing any feeds per day that way or does she make up for it at other times? I am feeding DS every 2 hours of an afternoon/evening and what you're doing sounds great but I would worry he will miss feeds kwim?
Shell - How is your DF going? I had a dream about the two of you the other night. How bizarre is that? You lived in a rambling house in the country (Looked like an Anne of Green Gables farm actually). You had blonde hair and you were short and thin. Anyway, I kept breaking stuff on the house and your DF kept noticing and I was feeling really sorry and kept having to apologise. It wasn't your stuff I was breaking but bits off the house. I was looking around and broke parts of walls and cupboards and eves and stuff accidentally. So strange. How did the pumpkin go with DD today?
OP - Glad you had a good trip away darl. You needed it! Whoohoo on a city night out.
Meg - pj days are awesome! Sounds like it was full on yesterday. Did DD cry during the Christening?
Hi to everyone else!
AFM - Not much to report. DS having a grumbly/clingy/whinny day today. Possibly teeth again but who knows? For those of you still breast or bottle feeding, how many feeds are day are your bubbas having?
-
Hi Laura - welcome back!!
OP - sounds like you had a great time away - welcome back as well!
Meg - I love PJ days too - it was a great day for it today!
Kaz - Miss J still has about 5-6 milk feeds a day and 3 solids feeds. If she won't settle with cuddles and rocking then I will feed but generally she does go down without it. As she is going 10-12 hours overnight I guess she is now big enoughto sustain herself overnight. When she wakes she has a milk feed, then solids, then another milk feed before her morning nap so she does eat very well when she wakes
-
Welcome Back Rainbow Raver!!! I would be having withdrawal symptoms with out the internet!!! How did you cope??
Kaz- I'm not sure exactly how many feeds L is having at a guess 8-9, but we have not started solids yet and someti,es L just has a drink not a feed,
Does anyone give water yet??? We don't but I do let L demand feed so if his thirsty he usually just has a small drink, will start when I start solids??? Should I have started by now???
