Shell, damn about af returning soon. I thought I got a period around 8 weeks post birth but now I'm thinking it was just the last bit of after birth discharge, which seemed to go on forever! (sorry tmi!) I haven't had anything since :dunno:
Yes I'll be very disappointed also if we don't win the premiership this year. We've been so close in the past few years, I think this is it!
AJP, you're game dtd without protection! We have a few times, but not recently and I immediately regretted it because we can't afford another baby anytime soon, literally. Won't be dtd anytime soon either, not interested anyway! Eek, you've been awake since 4:30!?!??! Has she had a decent amount of nap time yet?
Ali, I'm not sure if it's much of his medication helping him, but I know I am reading his tired signs a whole lot better now, and he's in the cot now which he seems to prefer a lot more than his snuggle bed! I think before, he was just too over-stimulated and would get over-tired and it ended up being a total pita to settle him once he reached that stage. Don't get me wrong...he is still no angel sleeper! Day times are getting better and seem more settled, routine like, but nights are still crap (except for 2 nights ago when he slept in his snuggle bed for over 2 hours - if only it was like that every night :rolleyes: )
Did I read that you are going back to work soon? 2 days? I will be going back 2 days as well, but not until the end of the year. Re the expressing, I will have no time to do that either as I don't get long enough breaks. I have no idea what I'm going to do, because even if I manage to build up a nice milk supply in the freezer, that sorts L out, but I am still going to need to express at least once in the 8 hour work day for the sake of my poor bb's and to keep up my supply! Is that what you're concerned about? I'm sure you can express a few feeds during the week that Ash can have while you're working (she will be on solids as well right?). And congrats on the weight loss :dance:
Det, that pilates class sounds great! How do all the bubbas stay happy though? I'm sure L would disrupt the whole class if I went lol.
NZgirl, sounds like Heidi is a dream! Glad that Noah is loving kinder, must make it so much easier (mostly for the parents not having to worry!)
Nai, poor J :( Hope she is more settled today. Do you think it's more teeth? Does she often do a poo during the night? I don't think L has ever done a poo overnight! That's one thing I'm blessed with not having to deal with lol.
Pinny, so cute when they giggle! L doesn't laugh much, but when he does, it's so adorable, brings tears to my eyes! :redface: Sorry if I've missed something, but hope everything is okay with your extended family :hug:
AFM, L is currently having his second day sleep. He's already had a 50 min nap earlier this morning, woke up at 9:45am, had his medicine, did his morning poo (he's a pretty regular baby!), playtime, went outside for some fresh air, had a feed and now he's been asleep since 11:40am :) So far so good!
What does everyone do re bath time? How often? For how long? And what method? I only give L a bath twice a week as I've been told any more regularly and it could make his skin worse (he has eczema and dry patches). He has it at any time of the day, not neccesarily evening. He quite enjoys the water and I'm sure would stay in the bath longer if my back could handle it! He is usually in the bath for 5-10mins, unless I have a bath with him and it's about 10-15mins. He has outgrown his baby bath so he sits in a bath seat which sticks to the bottom of the big bath with suction caps. It can recline so it's easier to wash him. He is still quite wobbly and obviously not sitting up yet, so I have to hold him or he will fall to one side! I fill the bath quite high to keep him warmer, is that bad? :redface: Obviously I'm always there so it's not as if it's a real hazard, more just a waste of water! I don't wash his hair or anything (he doesn't really have much to wash!), but I put some natural baby wash stuff in the water so he at least smells nice lol. As soon as I take him out he starts screaming until I give boob! What do you all do at bath time??

Holly- I still use the tummy tub to bath in, its like a bucket type thing but made specially for babies. I bath every night as its part of our bedtime routine but thinking to cut it donw cause she has really dry skin and have had probs with Ash and eczema in the past. I use QV bath oil tho. Sounds fine wht you're doing, I used to do that with Ash.
Pinny- Don't know what the story is but hope you sort out the family prob. Try not to let them bother you too much.
Nai- Usually takes a few nights but by 3rd night you should see an improvement, well thats what they say! We stopped the dummy to sleep accosiation and Emily adjusted quite well after about 2 days was a huge improvement.
NZGirl- Good to hear from you. What type of business do you have going?
Det- those mums and bubs classes sound good, I'd take Emily but then I'd have no one to watch Ash. Pain is good sometimes cause then you know you're doing somehting good there.
I got sad news today, a guy from work passed away last night, quite a shock cause last I saw him was 6 months ago and he was fine, apparantly he got sick recently and was found to have a melanoma which had then led to cancer in his liver so must've been there for awhile before being diagnosed. he was in hospital cause of pain and they were working on that and then planning to send him home once that was sorted so obviously I didn't think he was terminal and then next second he has died. He been at my workplace for like 20years or something.

Shell- Sorry to hear about the man you worked with...It gives you a big wake up call when you hear stuff like that...His poor family.
Holly- I only bath L every 2nd day and usually at night but can be anytime.. he lies flat in the big bath with a tiny bit of water... just loves it.

Nai - I never let E feed to sleep as it was an issue with J, but I know it was hard going when we had dummy "issues". I hope it sorts out soon.
Holly - we bath daily as it is a routine. Sometimes she showers with me of DH though.
Pinny - I hipe the family probs are not too serious.
Det - It must be terrible to suffer so much from migraines.
J was in childcare to day, so house all clean, ironing done, dinner in the oven (roast lamb) fire lit and baby asleep.

Holly - I plan on bathing Alex ever second day, but sometimes It just doesn't work out that way, so 3-4 days sometimes.
Meg - way to go with the housework.. I went shopping today - that's about it.. LOL! (and DH is home - but shall not go down that path - mr i'll play computer games and not look after bubs)
NZgirl - what sort of business have you opened? Great to hear that things are going well.
AFM - well just the arghs with DH - but what's new? As my dear old mum used to say "women never retire" - still have the housework etc to do, although DH did partially clean the kitchen bench and packed the dishwasher. I'm coming back either as a penguin or a man in my next life!

Just a quick one before i call it a night.
I have L asleep in my arms as i write this, after a feed and i just love the smell of his milky breath!!! It is so sweet, The innocence of a baby, how quick the past 5 months has gone, yet I fel like I've known him my whole life.. I love being a mummy.

I grew up in the East, and a lot of my school friends lived on the Mountain as I went to a private girls' school nearby. So I am pretty familiar with the area. If your playgroup coincides with me going to mums, I might tag along!

Finally we had a good night last night - Miss J slept from 8-4 and then 4.30 - 7 and so did I!! I decided to go to bed when she did and I feel so much better.
Pinny - yep DP had the snip. No more kids for us!
Holly - DP does Miss J's bath. She is still in the baby bath and we only use water. She has one every night and stays in for about 15min then gets into her pj's, has a feed and then to bed.
Tarkine - yep I'm doing WW. Men! What's with cleaning half the bench?

Holly - Bathing: We give Jacob a bath every second day but occasionally more often if he's had a shocker day with lots of poo and vomit etc. He is still in the baby bath on the kitchen bench but getting a little big for it. He stays in about 5-10 mins or however long we can be bothered holding him then into his night nappy and sleeping bag, feed and down. We bath in the evening, around dinner time, depending on his feeds. He usually does 40 min naps in the evenings though so he usually wakes up again after the bath routine and feeds an hour or so later before going down for the night.
Meg - Whoohoo on getting all that done by 4pm!
Amy - Good to hear from you darl. Been thinking of you and Heidi lately. Glad all is going well.
Det - :hug: Take care of you!! I hope you start to feel more energised soon.
Nai - Any more teeth for Miss J?? Glad you had a better night. It's hard to go to sleep when they do - I never know if Jacob's gunna wake up and want one more feed or not :rolleyes:

AFM - Think we might have finally turned a corner. Jacob is starting to only wake once again overnight, although still mixing it up with twice waking some nights. He actually dropped his last feed of the evening last night for the first time (fed at 7:30pm, slept 40mins, woke but didn't want to feed and slept again from around 9pm until 2:45am and then again until 7:30am!!!! I did one resettle at 12:30am) Yesterday he went down for not one, but two day sleeps in a row without his dummy!! He's been asleep now for over 2 hours with the dummy :o (although was awake for hours before that in the car).
Quick question - are all your babies rolling front to back? back to front? who is doing what? Jacob has rolled one time only from front to back.

He is STILL asleep. :o That's going on almost 3 hours now!!! Its unheard of for a day sleep. I just went in there to make sure he was still breathing.

Holly- Bath is part of our night routine. SHe has one at about 6:00, then dressed, then wrapped up, boob and bed. Her bath is normally with me, really deep and warm with a capful of QV bath oil. Its usually about 10-15minutes then the water gets too cold. She sometimes has a bath by herslef and she lies on her soft recliner mat in the bath and its not as deep. I still hold onto her arm or part of her body as she tries to roll around on it to reach things or look at the taps or towells hanging up. She has been in the big bath from day one of being home. I think its our fav time of day as she loves it and it is a real bonding time. We sing and splash and I get lots of smiles and laughing. Just do whatever works for you :)
Kaz- Developmentally, DD is rolling front to back only and yesterday at mohers group I sat her up and she stayed there, a bit wobbly but was up with my hands hovering around her for 15seconds so that is her new thing. No teeth yet, but I looked today and they are coming!!!! I can see 2 little white spots under her gums where they will come through. J sounds like he is having a great sleep!!! Well done!!!
Nai- Sounds like a good night. We are still waking an average of 3 times a night.
OP & Det- I know you girls have started solids and Im thinking about starting solids on the weekend, just some rice cereal with EBM. Any ideas or helpful hints? Time of day I should give it to her, etc?

DD is still asleep as well!!! She has always been a good day sleeper though so I guess I cant have everything. I have been having morning sleeps with DD this week and they have been bliss!!!! WE go to bed at 9am and sleep for 1.5-2hours! Helps make up for the night before.

Kaz - Alex is lazy and doesn't really roll, more lolls over if he can.
Ali - tried Alex on the cereal but he just wasn't interested, although he did want to put the spoon (without the cereal) in his mouth.
AFM - spent a fantastic morning out catching up with some local BB girls.. Alex was exhausted when we got home! He woke at 6.30am for a feed, and I put him back down and he slept thru til 10am (which is why I was late this morning for the group meeting).. I wonder if he'll keep this up.

Today L had a couple of friends over for a play date! A little girl and boy a few weeks younger than him. They weren't really interested in each other but at least us mums got to chat! Really tired now though, can't wait to go to bed. L had 3 day sleeps, all around 45 mins again...he's done his morning and evening poo and that's about as routine as we're going to get I think! Also tried him in the jolly jumper but he never got the hang of it and just bopped around a bit but after 10 minutes cracked it! He was wearing a wondersuit and I think the feet were too slippery on the floorboards, so might try bare feet or socks with the sticky pads next time!
Re rolling over...can't remember who asked! L is hardly even holding his big fat head up off the ground yet during tummy time. When on his back he is starting to lift his legs up and bum shuffle a bit to one side as if he's really trying to roll but doesn't look like he will any time soon. Hehe, lazy boy!
Anyway, hope you're all going good. I'll try pop in again tomorrow after we visit the health centre for a weigh in.

Holly - with the jolly jumper I put Miss J in bare feet and have some of those foam mats under it and that seems to work best. She bounces and spins herself around. However 15 minutes is her max and then she cracks it.
Miss J is rolling when it suits her. She enjoys tummy time and will try to launch herself forward. She kicks her legs around and looks like she's trying to swim on land. When she gets sick of tummy time she rolls over.
Ali - I haven't started any solids yet but I followed your lead and gave Miss J a sippy cup today. SHe took about 20ml so it was a good start and better than she has done with a bottle so I will keep persevering with that I think.

Kaz- Emily has rolled a few times from front to back, the other way she is so close, prolly 3/4 the way there but then her arm gets stuck.

:rolleyes: ummm... he is looking for work, BUT his looking for work and my looking for work are at opposite ends of the continuum... my philosophy is "OMG - no money coming in, where is the first job I can get, I don't care what it is" - and I've had some really bad ones... **sigh** but anyway, we are redrawing on the home loan, but that wont last forever..
AFM - I didn't get the promotion at work (like I care), and I baked a cake that turned out!! :dance: now that last one is the BIG news for me!! Woot!! Went to the hairdresser and just had it cut - no colour because Alex didn't get up until 10am (well we were up at 6.30am for a feed).. and he had a 10 minute nap at about 1pm (during lunch) and no nap until 8.30pm.. but I could have guaranteed that he would have cracked up if I had dye in my hair!!
On a serious side though, I'm having contemplations about the three frosty embryos... Its like there are three potentials on ice and I'm not sure if I could leave them there (there is a time limit of 5 years before they get chucked and we can't donate them).. I had a really rough time in the first 6-8 weeks and I am not sure if I'm strong enough to cope with more than one.. I feel like I do almost everything inside and outside the house - with the occassional/rare help from DH.. I'm not superwomen and I don't know if I could cope with more.. anyway that's just where my headspace is at the mo... decisions decisions...

It is hard trying to wind down after a latish game. I start palying again next week, but our latest game is 8:30pm.
Tarkine - Iti s still early days. You may find that you change your mind in a year or two. When I had J, there was no way I was ever having another baby, yet here we are. Give it time. There is no rush to make a decision.
Waiting for E to wake up to take J to the gym here that has free play. They always have a good sleep when you want to go out.

Jacob has a cold :( Came down with it last night and we had the worst night he's had in a long time. Possibly since he was a newborn. Feeling very tired today and I missed mothers group to go and buy a vaporiser. I was only looking at them the other day thinking I should get one because we'd need it eventually :doh: So had to take him out for a special trip this morning. He's just woken up so better go. :hug: to all. Have a great weekend girls! We have more houseguests coming so I might not be back for a few days.

Tarkine - it is very soon to be thinking about the frosties. You might feel very differently a bit further down the track. Funnily enough you tend to forget about these difficult early times a bit later on.

Kaz & Det, hope your bubbas recover soon :( At least we can hope all these illnesses boost their immune systems and they won't get too sick again! Poor L,he has had bronchiolitis and gastro + he has other persistent medical issues that we're trying to control. Can only hope the toddler years are more enjoyable!
Tarkine, wow, thinking about more already! Ikwym about not knowing whether you'll be able to cope with another. It's hard enough already, especially when you feel like you have to nag your dp to lift a finger :doh: My dp had a stage where he was in and out of jobs and had lengthy periods of umemployment and was so picky about what jobs he'd apply for. Hope I don't sound too harsh, but as I used to say to dp - beggers aren't choosers! Hope something comes around soon :hug:
AFM, well if anyone read my thread...L was very sick yesterday, vomitting, very lethargic and pale, it was scary. He is fine today though thank goodness. And he rolled! So exciting :) Went to the health centre to do a 5 month weigh in. He is 7.388kg and 64cm. Doing well! He has also graduated from infant into crawler nappies for when we use sposies!
Anyway, gotta go listen to a lecture that I didn't attend and do some study. Have a good weekend all xox

Kaz - hope the vapouriser helps :D. I've written 86,000 words since Alex was 4 weeks, which I think is pretty good considering the only time I get to write is at night - so its either sleep or write. The good thing is that its keeping my mind occupied and I love projects and challenges (like a baby isn't enough)
Holly - :dance: on the rolling - alex just lays there and has rolled once when I was out of the room! little rabbit!!
AFM - went around the MIL's place today for a roast lunch and she read fox in socks - that is a really hard book to read aloud - and I loved watching her and her hubby (who thought I was exagerating) trying to read the riddles - talk about free entertainment!!

Tarkine- All those books are tricky to read aloud, lol. As others have said don't stress bout the frozen embryos at the moment, wait see how things settle down. When L is bit older and DH has secure job, for months after having Ash I was like no more and Ash was gonna be only child but I got to a point where I started thinking I'd like another and now Emily is here.
Holly- :clap: Good on him, woohoo, he must be feeling better, thankfully was just a 24hr thing, such a worry tho isn't it. Ash had her first illness at 5 months, urine infection, awful spent 4hrs down at emergency.
Kaz- Little miss popular with all your guests! Get them to help with poor sick Jacob. Hope the vapouriser helps. Have you also got the fess nose stuff if he is snotty? With the aspirartor, I sucked so much snot out of Emily when she was sick, was horrible but made a huge difference then could she could breath alot better.
Det- how is the 'manflu' lol. Poor Boof.
Funeral today was quite nice, was good to hear all these stories about him from family and friends, all the things they told you could easily see in your head him doing all those things. So many people there too, couldn't all fit inside thats how busy it was.
Emily been bit cranky of late, don't know why, maybe a delayed thing from needles. who knows, going ok at night just grizzly during day not seeming herself not settling as well. Hope its a phase.

we set a new record last nite- 10 feeds from 1am till 6am!!! YEP 10 !!!!
Levi has not slept more than 40 mins for the past 48 hours and is feeding constantly!!!
He does not do 'sick' well!
Better still DH and I have it now! Dh has it the worse apparently- NOT!
my eyes are sore from being awake for so long and i have sinus pain as well
he has just gone to sleep now as he has been awake since 5.30pm today!! Hopefully for more than 40 mins again! Last nite he was jumping in his jumperoo still at 12am- he just wants to feed, jump and jirate!
i figure that he eventually has to crash and burn sometime- just waiting for when!
Just dreading how engorged my BB's are gonna be when he gets over this feeding frenzy! I have never know a baby to feed so much as he has in the past 48 hours! - i reckon its been like 30 feeds in the past 24 hours! I am so dehydrated even though i have drunk nearly 3 litres of water today- just trying to replace what he has suck out of me!

AFM, DP and I got to get out of the house together last night for the first time since L was born! We had a friends birthday to go to. We went bowling at Kingpin in Crown. I didn't win any of the games... :rolleyes: I'm so weak...even the lightest ball was killing my arm! I left L with mum and she sent me a picture message of L sleeping! It also read that he had finished his bottle and was fast asleep! Nice to get the message, so I didn't have to worry. We got home just before midnight and L was still sleeping - although he must have smelt me or something because he woke not long after :doh:
His eczema has really flared up on his face and the poor thing is so itchy :( Been using 1% cortisone cream but it's not really going away :( Any ideas?

Hi girls,
I have managed to get through my busy busy week. Had a great one! Was sooooo good seeing my mum and Ashlyn has been a good little possum.
We gave her first taste of solids this morning and it was the cutest thing. Lots of photos which I will put on FB at the beginning of August (my download/upload is too slow at the moment as we've gone over out limit).
Shell- :hug: funerals are awful but glad you got through it.
Holly- we left Ashlyn with my mum Sat night for a 30th as well. I knew she was in good hands and she slept the whole time. Then she woke as well when I got home but mum gave her a bottle as I had already gotten it out of the frezer and defrosted it.
Jols- doing your trick with the leftover EBM and giving it to my dog. Only Max likes it, WInston turned his nose up at it! LOL! That is sooo great about all that sleeping. The swimming must have really tired her out. How warm do they make the pools for babies these days???
Nai- DD is taking bottles again. Had 2 this week but not from me so I think that is the trick. I think with me she wants the real deal. Have you tried J again?? I am still giving her the sippy cup with a little bit of EBM in it every second day as I still want her to use that so that later in she doesnt reject it.
Det- How is boof? :o at the amount of feeds!!!!! You must be really sore!!! Hope you are better and DH hasnt been too much of a 'victim' of manflu as well. I know my DP acts liek such a victim when he is sick! Pffft!
Kaz- Great to hear an update from you. Things sound very busy over your way as well.

Must be the weekend for partying, I went out to a 40th last night and crashed at a friends place after, seeing as it was on other side of town I wasn't gonna drive all way home. So got to sleep in and spent relaxing morning having cups of hot tea. Party was fun, I got asked for ID, lol. Couldn't believe it.
Ali- Did she enjoy the solids? Not long til I start, I was planning to next week, on the one hand its exciting then on the other I think its more work then, lol, all that cooking and pureeing.
Holly- Poor L, not much I can suggest, how long have you been using cream for? Do you wash him in oil? Ash had exzema a few times, so I always wash her in the QV bath oil, sorbolene after to prevent her skin drying out and use the cortisone for a few days.
Yay on night out, it'll make it easier next time knowing L was fine without you, Lol at the bowling, I am the same always use the light ball.
AJP- Maybe thats the trick for good sleeps we should all take our babies swimming!
Det- How is Levi, any better? Has he settled down with the feeds?

AJP - yay for the big sleep after swimming! Didn't work for Miss J today though :( Still only 45min although she was very tired.
Ali - we started Miss J on solids today too! I have had 4 bad nights in a row and I said yesterday that if I have one more then I will give her a try. She fed 4 times during the night so I gave her some of the Rafferty's Organic rice cereal mixed with EBM this morning and she just about ripped the spoon out of my hand and was almost feeding herself. I gave her a second lot before bath time and I think she would have licked the bowl if she could have. I'm pretty sure she was ready. I haven't tried her on the sippy cup again but I will try to keep it up.
Holly - well done on getting out. I'm sure they can smell you when you come home and wake up! I don't have any experience with eczema so I can't help with that - sorry :(
Det - poor boof! I hope he is feeling better. The feeding must be so draining for you :hug:

Amazingly we had a better night last night with Miss J only waking once!! She also downed her bowl of rice cereal this morning, grabbing the spoon and feeding herself if I wasn't quick enough :rolleyes: I had a bit of Mummy guilt about starting her before 6 months but seeing that she is doing that I feel a little better about starting her. She must have been very ready (now I sort of feel bad for holding off on her :( )

Tarkine & Jols- Hw funny on the fake coughing. I have started to notice a fake start up to a cry and when I say to DD "Are you pretending" she starts to smile and giggle! LOL Cheeky little monkeys!
Shell- She really did enjoy it. There were lots of smiles and she looed quite satisfied in the end! Good work on your night out as well. Did you leave the girls with DF? How was he the next day? Hopefully he appreciated all that you do when you are by yourself.
Nai- I was feeling a bit guilty but you know what I thought, No one knows your child better than what you do. We are not feeding them extreme foods, there was far more EBM than rice cereal so its a minimal amount. I only fed DD in the morning with it. I might try the evening as well jsut before bath time. I am not going to add any extra foods for awhile. I'll just keep her on the rice cereal for a couple of weeks.

Well Df had a friend of ours over to help him out, she pretty much did everything, she also stayed the night to do night feeds! Then the next day he says to me, "oh Emily is easy to look after" I said thats because you didn't do anything, J did it all!
I have the rice cereal ready in the cupboard. Thought 5 months will be alright time to start, Emily still bit off so waiting. She been off her bottles a bit and making straining noises but she isn't constipated still doing 1-2 poos and not hard or anything. So maybe she got an achey tummy? She has been doing more vomits. Its been a week now since her vacs but it seemed to have started 2 days after having them, and I know the rotavirus upset her a bit last time too. So who knows if its still from that.
