Holly - I am glad that L had a nice long sleep for you today.
Shell - I am with you - making "solids" foods is so tedious. I do the same thing have a cooking day and freeze up a heap.
Heaven - E is having 2 or t3 day sleeps. Morning usually about 2 hours, then maybe another 2 hours later i nthe day and depending of what time she gets up, usually another 40 min one squeezed in there.
I am off to netball tonight. Not sure how I am going to go......
-
Tarkine - Whoohoo on your DHs contract! Sorry you're not feeling well - hope the dizziness went away with some sleep.
Meg - Have fun at netball!
Ali - My CFHN said that you should try a specific food about 20 times (so every day for 3 weeks) before concluding a baby doesn't like it. Also, she said that they have to learn how to push it up and back with their tongue to swallow it down and spitting it out is really normal to start with. Jacob does the fake cough too!! (until he got his cold and then they became a bit more 'real' )
Holly - I feel so sorry for Leon with his itchy skin. Poor thing. What are you studying at uni? Sending good luck vibes to your sister and your mum's partner. Both situations sound really stressful for your whole family
Shell - Definitely write a list for your Df. He'll probably be relieved to be able to get you exactly what you want. Hope you're doing ok tonight by yourself. It's hard when it's just yourself for long periods. Hope Ash is being kind to her sister.
Nai - It's probably too early to tell but have you found solids are helping J to sleep longer?
Det - Get well soon hun! Jacob has made that mumumum sound too. I'd like to think he's called me mum but I doubt it!! I think he's just working out the sounds.
AJP - Will have to check out the Ikea chair. It's a fair drive away though :( I've also had a friend recommend one from Aldi too which sounds kind of a bizarre place to buy one.
Heaven - Glad you guys had a good holiday. Jacob has about 4-5 day sleeps but less if one or two are longer. Mostly he sleeps 1-2 hours, occasionally 3. The last two evening sleeps are always 40mins. He generally goes down alright in his own cot. Writing that out has made me realise he's pretty good really. They're all really different and we're still getting night sleeping/feeding sorted out here. I don't really have any advice for you over what AJP suggested. How did you find Pinky McKays methods?
:hello: to everyone else!!
AFM - Went to the CFHN yesterday. Jacob is 20 weeks old, weighs 6.6kg and is 65cm long. He's low on the weight percentile graph thing but 50% for length and head circ. He seems to be teething at the moment too which has made for some unsettled times I think. He had a shocker yesterday morning because he took 40mins to go down after his breakfast feed and then I had to wake him after 20mins to go to the CFHN and then he was awake 2 hours and got overtired and ferral and then took an hour to settle down to sleep.
Anyone ever heard of a 4 month old who can twist their arm back and around so far their elbow faces outwards and palm is down (while lying down on their back)??? Jacob can. Not sure whether to be worried about it or not. Seems to have normal range of movement and then this extra thing he can do with his right arm. Looks totally bizarre and like he's broken his arm when he does it.
-
Holly - I hope your sister doesn't get jail time. Your poor mum must be so stressed. With sleeping I found that sitting just cradling Miss J really firmly and close to my body until she went to sleep got her out of the bb/rocking association. She will now just put herself to sleep.
The solids thing is a lot of work (and I am lazy  ) There's all the cooking and pureeing and putting into containers and freezing, and then there's all the stuff you have to pack to go out eg. containers of food, freezer blocks to keep it cold, spoons, bibs etc and then there's to poo.... What goes in one end usually comes out the other end looking almost the same!
Ali - if she's not keen and not interested don't feel that you have to push it. I'm just introducing one new food at a time every 3 days or so starting with the basics: sweet potato, pumpkin, potato, carrot, zucchini, pear and apple. Once you have introduced a number of different food you can start giving them blends. So once I have done sweet potato and pumpkin I can start mixing them.
Heaven - Miss J is having 3 - 4 day sleeps depending on how long she goes for. Usually she has 2 x 45min sleeps and 1 x 1hr plus sleep.
Shell - definitely write a list. I always do a list for birthdays and christmas.
Kaz - I don't think I have seen a baby do what you are describing - get a picture of him doing it! It sounds like Mr J is a good size. I think Miss J is 6.5kg now and she is 5.5months. Since starting solids she has been sleeping quite well - better than she had been which is good!
Meg - enjoy netball!
AFM - DP is over at a friend's house babysitting. DD1 is refusing to stay in bed claiming she can't sleep - GRRRR!!!
-
Netball was good, but I am already sore - I can feel it in my legs.
I also managed to bog the car on the way there as I missed the stadium, turned around and got the car stuck. Ran down to the game and got 2 or the girls hubbies to tow it out while I playd. How embarrasing and I don't even know them.
E and J were in bed before I left so pretty cruisy for DH.
Ok girls - I obviously have an "issue" that I need help on. Now I do pelvic floor exercises a couple of times a day, but playing netball proved that I still have a long way to go. (I thought I was gonna pee myself!) So what cna I do to help strengthen the pelvic floor?
-
Hi all,
I'm still hear!! Just been exhausted lately so have not posted...
Nai- Saw the photo of J eating, so cute...will try L in a few more weeks, my DD can't wait till L eats big boy food
Meg- Good on you for playing netball!! With the pelvic floor I have had heaps of trouble in the past and actually saw a specialist who had to teach me how to do them properly, lost of hard work but you are meant to start lying down as this is the easiest, then do quick flicks and holds of 3-5 seonds making sure you can feel the release of muscles each time, once you can do this well, you move to sitting doing same excercies, then standing then standing and walking on spot....you are meant to keep strengthening it, Hope all this makes sense let me know if you want me to explain it further to you.
Otherwise just get a TENA and hope for the best!!
Kaz- I have a friend in my excercise class who has the elbow thing happening, almost looks like she is double jointed......
AJP- Glad the dentist check up went well, we took Abbey last year for the first time and it was a disaster!! Thanks for this hugs, need to catch up for coffee soon.
HOlly- Hope all your family stuff gets better, it's so hard not to worry about it all.
Tarkine-- LOVE the book dedication...sounds like a book that I would like to read I too love the romantic stuff
Det- Wow sounds like Boof is coming along in leaps and bounds...I'm hoping my L still stays a baby for me for a little while longer I so don't like him growing up this fast
Shell- I hope the colds don't stay for too long....i hate the sickies
Heaven- My L is having 3-4 sleeps a day but usually has a massive moring sleep at lease 2 hours sometimes 3.
AFM- Well L is rolling over lots now, the other morning he rolled from back to tummy and then back over again straight away off his mat onto the carpet... and all I could think was Oh no now I'll need to get carpet dry cleaned and really make sure DD picks up all her small toys...i so don't want my little boy to be growing up this fast....I have also finally moved L from his cradle to his cot as thought it was a bit dangerous if he was rolling...he is stil in our room but now just in the cot..takes up so much room but I prefer to have him in there..
Hi to anyone I have missed...hoping my energy levels pick up soon, think i might start taking a multivitamin...
-
:hello: girls... just flying by.. have read all your posts, but am doing battle with a fat cat who wants my lap and has his huge backside on the mouse pad.
Kaz - not seen the elbow thing before.. got told at the last MCHN meeting that bF babies stats vary on the graph thing.
Meg - way to go with the netball - sorry to hear you got tractionally challenged (bogged).. but I'm sure the blokes were more than willing to help you out (think its a boy thing - car+mud+bogged=fun.
Nai - you reminded me of all the stuff I'm going to have to start lugging around, have to go shopping tomorrow to get it. Alex is doing bombing raids on my plate, when he sits on my lap, little rascal.
Sorry gotta go, the cat is winning the battle of the lap!
-
just a quickie
kaz both my boys are double jointed in their elbows and can twist their arms backwards. DH is also DJointed as well- it looks freaky but its all good!
OMG i think he is zzzz for the nite- earliest for ages!!
I am making the most of it and GOING TO BED!@!!!! Might even be asleep before 2am tonite lol
mwah
-
meg i still have afew issues while playing netball too! i invested in some tena!! you'll be sorest on day 2 after playing netball!!
kaz j sounds like he's doing great!! millie was 6.9 at 5 months so not much different!!
tarkine  about your cat! i hate carrying around food thens theres bibs, face washers etc etc...
det hope you got some desent sleep last night
nai did G go back to sleep?
pinny no worries hun! awesome that L is rolling !! M still isnt really, shes done it before but not that interested in dooing it much more!!
AFM millies new trick is pocking out her looooooooooooooooong tongue  she can make it ripple too :o freaky!
-
AJP- Yep, still sleeping in my arms :( I wrap her still as if she's not wrapped there is NO chance of putting her down as she flails her arms around, LOL. But if she is wrapped sometimes I can do it. I have tried keeping picking her up and putting her down but it's like she realises what I'm doing and then gets more and more cranky and then eventually will not even close her eyes coz she knows what I am going to do, LOL. She's too clever for me! Next baby, I am not holding while it sleeps from the beginning!! LOL.
Holly- I'm hoping she grows out of it too but I have no idea how. I feel crap bc I have got her into this and I should be able to teach her to sleep better by herself :( Yay on starting uni! WIll be busy but good! Sorry to hear about your sis :(
Shell- I've tried putting her down when she's sleepy but for some reason she doesn't go to sleep even if I keep rocking or patting ????? She just wakes up more!! Grr.... I think what I need to do first is get a nap routine happening so she knows when sleep is coming and is ready for it not just suddenly realises she has to go to sleep and tries to fight it!
Kaz- I read one of Pinky's books and it was good but not many suggestions different to what I'm doing, more just helping you accept that that's how it is and that rocking to sleep is ok iykwim? But it's not really ok with me or my arms anymore!! LOL. Sounds like Mr J has a double jointed arm!
Nai- That video was so cute!!
Meg- omg, crap about your car! lol. Oh, you just reminded me to do my pelvic floor exercises, lol.
Pinny- I really have to move DD into the cot too. But I'm like you, don't want her in her own room yet, waiting for DH to move the cot to our room!
det- well done on the 'early' night for you, lol. Get some sleep you crazy woman!
Well we are getting NO sleep at night here! Well hardly any anyway. Totally crap!! Is it a growth spurt? She will not stay asleep for long, was literally up every hr or less and had one 2 hr sleep! Hell! Had the same thing abaout a month ago. Maybe a growth spurt, or maybe these 2 little teeth giving her trouble coz she is crying in her sleep too :( Poor little thing. It's been going on for 3 nights now so hopefully not much longer anyway!
Anyone else going to try baby-led solids? I think I am, at 6 months. I noticed also that I think DD has lost the tongue-thrust reflex already. Does that mean she'll be ready sooner or is it still ok to wait? Don't want to starve her, lol.
-
Waaah! DP got the results back from his snip today and he STILL has swimmers :( Arrrgh - more waiting!
-
Nai - sorry to hear that DP still has swimmers.
heaven - for the sleeping.
AFM DH gave Alex some bechemal sauce that I made for lasagne last night - and of course Alex loved it, was smacking his lips afterwards.. I tried mashed pumpkin and potatoe and Alex wasn't interested.. It's amazing how clucky/domesticated DH has become since he found out he has to go back to work  could have done this three weeks ago, the pooper.
-
Nai - bummer on the swimmers. When do they test again?
Heaven - hope the sleep improves.
Tarkine - So when does he start back at work?
E has beena bit of a nightmare the last 24 hours, as has J. She has been iritable, and just not herself. J has hayfeaver, and has wet his pants 3 times in the last 2 days. Once in the car, once in a resturant (as he was in the playroom and didn't want to stop playing for a wee) and once on his bed. Right through everything! I dunno why he has started doing it, but will just have to keep hounding him to go to the loo.
Ok I thought we could do some stats to see where all the bubs are at :)
Age - 5 months 1 week
Weight - Not sure. Gets weighed in a few weeks.
Solids - Nope not yet.
Sleeping - not through the night yet, up for 1 feed a night, and generally resettles.
Bedtime - 7pm.
Up in the morning - Between 7:30am and 9am depending if she got up in the night.
Wrapped - Nope not for a while now. In a sleeping bag.
Co Sleep - sometime but mainly In her own room most of the time.
Sitting up - No, but can sometimes balance for about 5 seconds.
Rolling - Tummy to back, but not the other way.
Teeth - None, and no signs of any at the moment.
Hmm can anyone think of anything else to add?
-
Nai- How long til they retest? I'm still trying to talk Df round to the idea but no luck yet.
Heaven- How is the sleeping going there? DD1 was crap sleeper and now fantatstic so hold onto that thought that eventually things work out well.
AJP- Can she touch her nose with her tongue? Lol that might be her next trick.
Pinny- Thats why I'm not in a hurry for Emily to move, Ash leaves her crap everywhere so don't want any choking!
Df actually went well with my birthday list, he has booked dinner for tomor night and organised a friend to babysit and going to take me out in the day tomor (he's having a sickie) I'm quite impressed, would've been happy if he managed one thing from the list cause thats all I expected. Guess it is a good idea seeing as men always argue they aren't mind readers.
We had few friends over watching footy last night. Df and 2 chicks were drunk and annoying, me and Df's best friend were like next time we'll watch just the 2 of us. The 2 chicks practically had a scrag fight. One walked home. (quite a way). So I've said to Df thats it no more footy nights here.
-
Great idea Meg! I added age and teeth.
Age- 5 months, 1 day
Weight - not sure, probably around 7.5kg now
Solids - Not yet, starting BLS @ 6 months. Still fully BF.
Sleeping - Terrible atm due to teething and growth spurt!!!! But was sleeping around 10hrs with 1-2 wake-ups
Bedtime - 7.30-8.30pm
Up in the morning - Between 5am and 6.30am !!!!!
Wrapped - always
Co Sleep - Still in basinette next to our bed. Moving cot to our room today!
Sitting up - Not yet but won't be long. Can balance for short periods.
Rolling - Tummy to back all the time, but not the other way ( I suspect she could easily but doesn't want to at all)
Teeth- 2 bottom teeth just came through
-
Meg- You posted same time as me. Ash has gone back to waiting til she has her night nappy to poo. Then won't tell us and by morning its all crusted on. We've had to start checking her now when we go to bed. I don't know why I leave light on in toilet for her, tell her to call me if she wants to go but doesn't.
Hope E settles, Emily just been unsettled all week, I've been having to carry her round more often. So exhausting isn't it. Esp with a toddler to entertain also.
Weight - at 4 months was 6kg not weighed since.
Solids - Next week we gonna start.
Sleeping - One feed at night then squeals and shouts (might have to start a thread on that cause its driving me nuts!)
Bedtime - 7-7:30
Up in the morning - 7-7:30 if had a good night.
Wrapped - No, she likes her hand tucked in blanket tho and pulls it to her face and sucks on it or rubs her cheek with it.
Co Sleep - She just went into her cot but still in my room.
Sitting up - No.
Rolling - Tummy to back, rolled the other way once, hasn't done it since.
Teeth- None yet but chewy hard on everything so maybe soon?
Yeah I finally moved Emily into cot last night and I was very sad, I missed having her little face next to me in bed, waking in the morning and seeing her smiling at me. I have the cot next to me but not the same. Its funny I said I'd never co-sleep, DD1 was in own room from day 1 but now wished I done same with her.
-
Shell - E squeals as well after her feed in the night. Sometimes for ages, but usually about 15 mins. I keep thinking at least she is happy
-
Good idea Megie!!
Age- 5 months, 8 days
Weight - he was 7.388kg when he was weighed almost 2 weeks ago
Solids - Nope, fully breastfed still, although my whole family keep pestering me telling me that he's ready!! Will start in a couple of weeks I think :)
Sleeping - What's that?!!?! LOL very poor. Wakes up umpteen times during the night. During the day he will have 3-4 sleeps though, ranging from 30mins-1h30mins. The shorter one is in the evening.
Bedtime - Whenever!
Up in the morning - 7-7:30am
Wrapped - No
Co Sleep - Reluctantly. I give in as he just won't have a bar of his cot overnight for some reason.
Sitting up - Nope.
Rolling - Has rolled tummy to back once a couple of weeks ago.
Teeth- Lumpy gums but no teeth have surfaced yet. Shouldn't be long I think!
Anyway, must keep this short. SO much uni work to do. Can't remember who asked...I'm studying psychology, 2nd year, hoping to specialise in neuropsychology later on if I get into honours!
My sister handed herself in for breach of bail, so she is in remand atm. She said she wanted to get locked up to save her from herself or hurting others...crazy but sad :( She is a troubled soul! Waiting to see how sentencing goes on Thursday, not good I imagine.
I am hosting mothers group tomorrow, so gotta go clean and get uni work out of the way!
Have a good day everyone xox
PS, got a new av!
-
Holly- I am a psychologist! I just finished my masters in Clinical Psych last yr! New Av looks great!
Shell- Thanks. She was just getting a lot better at sleeping overnight until these teeth!! Grr... hope it's not too long!
