The nurses at my early parenting group reckon that's a stage that almost all babies go through sometime between about 6 and 9 weeks: so much visual stimulation and new things that their daytime sleep goes to hell for a while. I know ours has, yesterday it was hard to tell if he napped at all.:
Emma - you are probably right, he is going a good stretch at night and making up for it during the day, also having smaller bottles will mean more often. To get an idea of bottle amounts/frequency etc you can take his weight in kg times it by 150, giving a total 24 hour amount and the divide it by the number of feeds a day getting a total per bottle amount. Its only a guideline though. I hear you on the catnapping, it can be frustrating but I just keep saying to myself they grow out of it.
Kazaraz - thanks about the pics, I did Chloe's hand and feet casts last week to, so funny that we both did both. I buy a kit online from a place called lifelongmemories, its a double hand and feet with a photo in a shadow box, I was so excited cause it is exactly the same as Amelia. It is fun to do the casts and its like xmas peeling them off to reveal her little hands and feet. What cream did the pharmacist give? I use a moisturiser called aqueous cream on my own eczema when its not to bad but I need prescription cream if it doesnt go away within a week or gets angry looking.
Liminal - Chloe is bf to, she goes from 9.30 to 2.30am then to 6.30, then 3 hourly during the day, so we get a good 5 hr and 4 hr at night :dance:. I tried dream feeding amelia about this age but it never worked, she would only take a small feed and wake early about the same time anyway, it didnt start working till she was about 5mth and I would dreamfeed at 10.30 before I went to bed and she would go till 5.30, which suited me better cause otherwise she wanted to feed when I needed to walk out the door to uni. But its worth a try, I know some babies that it worked on. Oh my, I dont remember the length requirement of my capsule, I better look, Chloe is already 61.5cm at 7wks. Its so annoying, some of her 000 rompers wont button up, she keeps popping open.
I think Chloe's zantac needs uping again (uping looks funny hehe i think its spelt wrong?) I think I have to call dr cause she isnt due to see her again for a week half or so. I thought she was going through a growth spurt last week cause she increased feeds and I thought I was right cause she put on 240gm and 2.5cm but the last two days she has fed even more often, only one 5 hr and 3 hr stint at night and every 2 hours during the day, I feel like a dairy cow but I cant imagine what weight she will put on by next week if this is her actual growth spurt :think:.
I also finally got back into the outpatients physio for my pelvis and the stupid woman told me not to do anything that aggrivates it, which is housework and walking wtf (excuse my french) but thats just not possible with 2 kids and that I just have to wait it out for about 6mths until it should resolve itself, but the thing is she didnt even touch me or work on me in anyway just wrote down some exercises, not much help when most nights I can barely walk. She also told me to rest laying down for 2 hours a day, with sleeping being even better, I cant nap cause I cant get to sleep at night and try laying down with a 22mth old grrrrr. And definelty no WiiFit, so I am not impressed cause I cant do any toning up.
Study - the pharmacist recommended cetaphil, no good at all. It made him worse if anything. So I trusted my instincts and past experiences and used paw paw cream which I picked up at the same time and that has been great. His face looks excellent tonight, normally get worse when he is hot. Chloe sounds like she has a great routine going, good block of sleep at night for you!
Liminal - Luka is wanted to stay away longer during the day as well, he seems to be growing so fast. I wish he would slow down, he seems so big already.

She's only a little bit behind V then, that was his height at his 6 week checkup. He's 8 weeks now and we've switched him to 00, which he already fits very well so I think 0 is not going to wait long!:
I'm not an expert at all, but can you get a second opinion from another physio? So many healthcare workers are like that, they give no compromises advice and if your home responsibilities or work don't allow you to take the huge amounts of rest they recommend they have nothing else to offer. But many have some flexibility in what they can offer you.
Emma - have been having the same problem, Vaeda is fine at night time, but won't sleep during the day. I was feeling like I had no idea what I was doing, and yesterday I found out that actually its true, I have been doing it all wrong!
MCHN check up yesterday, I expressed my concerns about Vaeda not wanting to be put down during the day and how the only way I can get her to sleep during the day is to have her in my sling. She told me I was missing the tired signs! I watched the DVD about tired signs at my birthing class and again at the hospital, and thought I had those down pat, but MCHN and I reviewed the list again and I realised that I have indeed been missing some of the signs.
Apparently at this age, babies should not be awake for more than 1 - 1.5 hours at a time, so if its been that long, its too late to just put her down as she's overtired, which is why she starts whinging when I do.
Tried putting her in her cot after 1 hour awake time last night, and again this morning, and its worked both times!! She only stays asleep for 30 minutes or so, but its better than it was, and I'm sure it will improve as she gets used to it also.
Liminal - I only have the option of going through the public hospital to see the physio, we just cant afford private cover anymore cause when DF lost hours from the financial crisis, and physio costs to much without it, its so annoying cause I know how private physio works cause I have been going to different things for years. I could probably push to have hydrotherapy again like while I was pregnant but it only gives a couple of days relief, but she could at least offer massage therapy to. I will have to see what she comes up with at my next appointment.
Chloe is so different in size than amelia who was petite and still could wear 0000 now. Chloe is just so much longer, she has little chicken legs and arms though, I think its just her body is so long and chunkier, people ask if she is 3 months old cause is bigger and so aware.
Vintrar - I am so glad I already understood tired signs before my 1st. Chloe's right arm starts clenching and irratically waving but she can still be smiling but I still know to put her to bed. But daytime 'bed' is exactly the same as Amelia was, she refuses to calmly sleep in her cot during the day, so its in a bassinette style rocker out in the house. When she is awake, she plays on the floor mats, when she gets tired I put her in the rocker and give her a dummy, then at night she wont go to 'bed' until 10.30 and then sleeps fine. I was told they are more comfortable sleeping during the day where the noise and action is. Eventually when Amelia was older I gradually started sleeping her in her cot during the day.
So cute, she has been blowing raspberries for the last two days, not intentionally obviously but she keep doing this weird thing with her mouth and tongue and it results in a raspberries, she just chats away to her toys while blowing raspberries. I love it when they start to learn things.
Studymum - Vaeda is a super active baby who is throwing her arms around wildly almost constantly and kicking her legs too, so I couldn't use that particular one as a sign. I guess this was expected, based on how she was in the womb. I almost fell over a few times when her big kicks threw me off balance haha
Fantastic day yesterday, such an amazing turnaround and I hope it continues. Though I missed baby vaes so much tucked away in her cot and wanted to go wake her for a cuddle :)
Hi can I ask a couple of questions of some mums who are at the same point as me?
How are you all going on formula? My little guy is sensitive to Cows Milk Protien so I put him on soy and he got so blocked up, been trying the sugar water and coloxyl drops but he's still blocked up.
I went to my pead and he put me onto Neocate (prescription) but he's still blocked up.
I'm at my wits end, he's finally settled otherwise after a UTI early in the piece.
I have tried so many different things but it's so hard to know what to do. and to be honest GP and pead aren't that helpful either.
Hope you are all on the road to piecful nights sleeps.
I get one 5 hour one three hour then who knows but I guess that's better than before 1 hour at a time if I was lucky.
!! Yes Vintrar, I feel like a very mean mummy having my little Max up for such a short amount of time and would love him to be awake more to cuddle him, but having him settle so well is very nice. Anytime he is up longer than 2 hours, because we have been out and about or whatever, he is so much harder to settle. Glad you are onto those tired signs - nice work!:
Liminal: we tried waking Max for a feed so that he would go 11pm to 5am rather than 8pm - 2am but it didn't work out great, he ended up waking after 4 hours therefore skipping his 'big' sleep. So we are back to the 8pm - 2am and happy enough that he gets a big sleep (5 hours) followed by a 3 hour sleep.

Green - I have only ever used warm water with a bit of brown sugar in it when they are so young and it has always worked! So I am not much help sorry, I hope you get some relief for you little one soon. Constipation sucks!
Vin - How is V going? Hopefully she is still settling well for you. When you said about looking out for the tired signs, it made me re-look at what I am doing with Luka. He will have a few good days and then just a day from hell. I can not work out where I am going wrong, when he gets it so right most of the time! Hopefully I work it out soon, as those days from hell suck the big ones!
Study - What issues are you having with your pelvis? I had pelvic instability with Luka and once I had him any pain I had went away! Then 4 days ago it has returned, I am struggling to get up of the couch and walk most of the time. I am so upset about it and am not sure how I could go from feeling so great to so crappy again!
:hello: to everyone else! Not much going on here today. Have had a good night with Luka, fed and showered and down by 8 last night and he slept through until 2am. Then back to bed and slept through until 7.30am, so he has done well. His face has cleared up heaps by using paw paw and now changing to another moisturiser.
We took him to the paediatrician last week and he said he had dermatitis behind his ears, cradle cap along his forehead, he is tongue tied, has a hernia behind his belly button and his constant cold since 2 weeks seems to be all behind his nose and we just have to ride it out. He said it could be allergy related and gave us a soy and lactose free formula to try. I am not sure and think he just picked up a cold from Mia in the beginning and can't shake it. So the poor little man has a list of things wrong, but the paediatrician said not on them are 'serious'!
Anyway better go, DD2 is standing next to me whinging and it is driving me mad. Looks like one of those days with her!

Hey all, i hope all you ladies are going well! i just got a question, Kaleb is getting sookie and crying every feed.
He arches his back throws his head around but seems hungry? im formula feeding and now he has also started to projectile vomit :( the doc says its normal but i don't think so......
GabberQueen - Sounds like reflux to me... Thats the signs Munchkin showed when she had it. Little Nao is showing signs too, but without the screaming. Maybe try for a second opinion?
I thought so to, if she doesn't help i'll go elsewhere i think the poor little bugger hates feeding now :(:

He sounds so much like sebastian, he also has dry irritable skin behind his ears and cradle cap in his hair right above the dry skin on his forehead. I have mostly got rid of the cradle cap just by chucking some olive oil on his head 1/2hr before bath time, bushing it with a fine bristled brush then washing it off in the bath. Cleared it up pretty quick. Glad the paw paw worked what mostoriser did they recommend to use?:
What Formula are you using? I found the Karicare thickened formula helped Munchkin - but it did make her constipated. (can't ever win):
Minny - just a redkin moisturiser I had in the cupboard, the one I brought at the chemist that he recommended really irritated his skin!
Gabber - could be reflux or even wind pain ... I think if they start off gulping at the beginning of a feed that it can cause a pain, seems to be what happens with my boy. I tend to agree it does sound like it could be reflux though reflux though, poor little munchkin!
