Hi Jasp,

Your little girl Arlea is gorgeous and what a beautiful name. Thank you so much for replying to my post. Maison is doing all the things that you stated that Arlea is doing. He also humps the floor when doing tummy time . Last night he almost fliped himself over he was lifting his butt up so high it almost when over his head the only thing that stopped it was that he face planted his face into the ground.

The Dr made it sound like such a big deal that he did not have much head control so it totally freaked me out. I am thinking of taking him to a physical therapist to see what they think.

Welcome to the thread, Tam and Belinda!
Most of the babies at my mothers group haven't got good head control yet and hate tummy time. The oldest is 15 weeks, so I wouldn't stress yet! Bridie started getting great neck control/strength a little after we started carrying her lots in the Baby Bjorn. Being upright most of the time helps her reflux, and it might also have helped develop her neck muscles.
It's fascinating hearing what all the babies are up to. Bridie loves eating her fist, and when she's waving her arms and a fist catches her eye she stares at it with great interest. She hasn't figured out how to move round yet - when she is on her tummy she pushes up with her arms really well, but also lifts both her legs off the ground so she makes almost a U shape balanced on her tummy! Sometimes she'll push up more with one arm than the other and roll onto her back; she always seems quite surprised (and sometimes unhappy) to find herself looking at the ceiling...
My favourite development though is the cooing. She looks at me really intently and says 'aaah', and then moves her mouth around for a while and finally gets to say 'oooh'. I can see her little brain is working furiously to figure out how it all works - so cute!

Hi mummies and babies,
Well sounds like a lot of our babies are very similar in their development, Alannah is doing all the same things that you have listed - well without the bum humping!. About the only other thing is in the last couple days she has started getting more active with her legs. When she has nappy free time her little legs go crazy and she waves them around so much she shuffles her bottom around and she ends up to far away from the toys she is trying to kick. And this morning she started holding onto and exploring her feet with her hands.

Tummy time for some reason has gone backwards. She used to love tummy time and used to lift her head up really high - high enough that it would change her centre of balance and she'd roll right over. But now she gets sick of tummy time very quickly and the only tummy time we really have is with her on my tummy. I'm not to concerned because her neck is still pretty strong.

There have been a few other developments, she has started sleeping from 10:30pm - 6:30am fairly consistently so that is making our household happy. But not so happy is she has been diagnosed with a heart defect (PDA). This is not entirely uncommon and is fixed with some surgery. That probably won't happen until she gets a bit bigger (around 10-12kgs) so in the mean time we will have regular appointments with her paed and cardiologist to make sure she is travelling ok.

Sagres, sorry to hear that.
A friend of mine had a little girl with a heart defect, she had surgery just a couple of months ago & is doing brilliantly, it didn't slow her down for a minute! It's amazing how resilient kids are.

Sages sorry to hear that about Alannah I will keep her in my Like Jasp said babies are so resilient and the heal really quickly,. It sounds like she is a smart little cookie if she is rolling already. About the tummy time they say when babies are learning something new they may forget something else the have learnt but once they have mastered the new skill they will remember how to do what they have forgotten.

I'm glad that Maison is learning at the same pace I have been really worried about it and finding it hard to sleep beacause I am always thinking about it.

JessThanx for the welcome and replying to my post. Wow Bride is rolling already thats really good. Maison loves making his baby noises when I am reading to him and he has had enough he starts cooing over the top of my voice so I stop reading and listen to him then he will give me a big smile.

Today: lots of spew, we've been through 3 bibs, but she got weighed and has put on 290g this week! So obviously she is keeping enough down... I also showed off her cute new cloth nappies to the other mums at mothers group, and they seemed quite impressed. Hopefully they too will become MCN addicts

You create a signature & add it there...umm now I gotta think how to do this without looking

ok - go to teh User control panel (click on User Profile), then on the left there is an option to Edit Signature it's in the third group down.
You can put more stuff in or just paste the ticker code.
I'll check that & edit this post if I'm wrong

Thanks for your hugs and thoughts girls. You are right, the heart problem doesn't slow her down at all now which is a good thing. I don't think I would say she is rolling yet....she does a few 'hey my heads up high and oops I fell over and I'm on my back now' which is different to rolling over on purpose. But it does mean I didn't get much time where I could leave her on her mat and know she was going to stay in the same spot!

Once again, guilty of lurking and not posting so much...

Sagres - I'm so sorry to her that about DD! But from what it sounds she is not letting it slow her development down! . What's going on with that now, just waiting for her to gain weight now? That'd be so scary as a parent to have a bub's go into surgery at such a young age. You sound like you're handling it really well!

Jasp - is that your own avatar you created? I love it - it looks great! How is Miss Arlea?

Jess- that is great weight gain!! Double what is 'average'!! Go Bridie!!!

Tam - try not to stress about Maison's development. I know its hard, but after having DD at 31 wks (1.18kgs) I always used to ask everyone about their babies development to compare and it was doing my head in. (Unless a paed has bought anything out of the ordinary to your attention that is?). It certainly sounds like he's on par for his age - so you're doing brillliantly with him!! Trust your instincts.

AFM - Mr B is doing well. He can sleep anywhere from 4 - 8 hrs in a stretch overnight. He has a lot more awake time now during the day, however he tends to nod off during our daily walks . I really should weigh him soon.

I've been more struggling with DD and DS needing attention (for either food, drink, bum change etc) at the same time. If DD doesnt get what she wants first she tends to do all the naughty things to get my attention quick smart. I just try to prioritise - if it means one or the other is left crying a bit longer than I'd like, so be it. That must make me sound absolutely horrible . But there is only so much one pair of hands can do. Sometimes they sleep at the same time, which is good as it gives me a break; other times its like they stagger it so one gets my 100% attention while the other sleeps - and I really enjoy that time too. Anyone else with a toddler - close age gap to the newbie??? Anyone??? .

Leesa thanks for the support I am trying to relax a bit and not worry to much. His head control is getting better now that I am pushing the tummy time a bit more. Sounds like your little man is doing great Good luck with the weighing I hope he is right on track.

Sarges oh well at least she is rolling even if it is not on purpose. I dont think it will be long until she realises she is rolling and will be doing it all the time

Mizerech - Maison was born at 12.11pm. He was induced at 38 weeks as he was only a tiny 2.8kgs. But he is doing really well if his weight now. I had him weighed two weeks ago and he was 6.7kgs.

Tam - Maison is doing really well with his weight! Bridie is only just 5kg now - she took ages to get to 4kg from a birth weight of 3.27kg, so I'm extra pleased that she's gaining well now

Leesa - I'm impressed that you are managing 2 under 2 I guess even with a bigger gap you wouldn't be able to attend to them both at the same time. My mum says she used to read to me while feeding my sis, but we had a bigger gap (2.5yrs) so I don't know if that's useful? And doesn't help at all with the changing or if they need comforting or rocking to sleep... all I can say is good luck!

AFM: currently really tired as she decided she needed food every 2 hours last night Have ordered the 'wonder weeks' book to see if that has any useful ideas about dealing with these growth spurts! Now, to bed...

Tam Wow Maison is doing great... Nola-mae was 3.9kg born went down to 3.5kg when we left the hospital i had her weighed 3 weeks ago and weighed 5.5kg but Nola is going through a growth spurt for the last 2 days and nights having feeds every 2 hours can't wait to get her weighed tomorrow ... so what was your due date may i ask? mine was 25th but was also induced

Miz - How did Nola-mae go with her weight? Maisons due date was meant to be the 26th July. How is Miz going with her Milestones? Maison still hasn't laughed yet. Lots of smiles and little giggles but not exactly laughing.

Tam Nola-mae weighed in at 6.8kg wooo hooo i was shocked lol she is now 64cm in length born 53cm hehe going to be one tall lady..
Nola is going pretty good with her milestones she has been laughing for a little over a week she laughs when i sneeze. On Sunday night she laughed herself to sleep very funny.

When im eating Nola watches me and opens her mouth and will grizzle a lil... starting to show interest in food but is still to young for food, is anyones bubs doing the same?
