Hi all! Just wanted to pop in and say a quick hello!

lovelycate, I know exactly what you mean about looking forward to the weekends, it's so nice when DH is home and you get to spend a couple of days as a family.

Yey :clap: for Anton Jess, can't wait for Ash to do the same. By the sounds of things the introduction of solids is working wonders for you.

Glad you mothers group is going well for you Sarah, I think it is worth sticking it out, we're up to our fourth session and there are now a couple of ladies who I have really warmed to, but at first I was a bit unsure of whether I would hit it off with anyone.

LNB, welcome, I'm looking forward to getting to you know you better and congrats on little Nate!

SS sounds like Hayley's laugh was priceless, we've had a couple of little giggly sounds but nothing that I can say for sure is a laugh, looking forward to it though!

I know what you mean with the temperature change Jetta, DH could still give Sam a massage with his clothes on though. Not quite as intimate but I'm sure they would both still enjoy it...

AFM we are going away to a winery for the weekend and I can't wait. It will be so nice to get out of the city and have a bit of RnR. Mind you the weather looks like being awful, so it might end up being a chilled out inside type of weekend. Oh well, I'm sure it will still be fantastic. I have however gone a little over the top with packing, it's hard to know where to start and stop when they are this little. But I figure it is best to be prepared for all possibilities...

Lotus Flower - good to see you back! I think it is so normal to have the ups and downs still! I remember reading something that said if you are still down after 10 days after having the baby then you may have post natal - I was still crying weeks later!! But I definately still have my days as well especially when you are tired. ie. yesterday! Sam wouldn't settle and was crying so much and it just really gets to you when you are there all day on your own and it feels like it is never going to end. My husband always says to remember the big scheme of things - it is just a day or a few days and it will pass. Sometimes easier said than done though when you are in the moment!!

jasp - I totally understand going back to work! We run our own business and I have started back one day a week. Things for us from now until Christmas are sooooo crazy and my poor husband is trying to run the whole thing himself. It is really daunting. We are looking at employing a manager so I can start back part time and not stress about going full time straight away. It is going to be so hard leaving them though. Good idea to do daycare but not be at work I think. That way you can just make sure you are comfortable with it, but I will be thinking of you! You just want to be with them!

Sloane - wow! Congrats on the weight with Corey! that's great. A very happy baby I take it!! Baths this week are the same! I think you are right and it is the temperature thing. I think once the towel gets a bit cold from the damp he doesn't like it. We have just started dressing him straight away and doing massage on a different night and he is definately better so I think it is just him realising the difference in temp.

LNB - that's great you have dropped that feed! Well done. Great to be getting some sleep! Sam goes from 10pm til around 4am, so at the moment I am happy with that! I then wake him around 6.30am to start our day as I am semi back at work so that gets me around 6 1/2 hours sleep which I can cope with! Glad to hear that Nate is happier this week as well. Sam is having a bad time at present, just being more whingy and waking more and not sleeping. I had him self settling a bit last week but not this week!! I think they are just growing and developing so much it must be so difficult to take it all in! I love this forum too, it is great when sometimes it is hard to get out that there are still people to talk to!

lovely cate - Sam hasn't laughed yet either, he looks like he is going to but no sound comes out!! He has started talking a bit more though which is really exciting!! My mother in law said she use to tape record my husband so she could replay it over!!

ss storm - that is so gorgeous!! We have slowely let Sam look at the dog too and he just has the strangest look on his face as though, what the hell is that thing??!! It is quite funny! I haven't been to my mothers group either! The weeks just seem to fly by and I hate going to things where I don't know anyone! I wouldn't worry about the age, I don't think anyone cares. Some of my bestest friends are almost 5 years younger than me and it doesn't matter at all! One of my friends is 27 and she thought she would be the youngest and she said she is the oldest so I think there is a real mix of ages in all the groups.

Mamapan - took me a while to work it out too! 6kgs is great, Sam just got weighed at 5.9kgs so that is good too. Glad the flat spot is better, we have a slight flat spot so we have started putting him at the other end of the bed to make him sleep on the other side of his head as he loves sleep to the left!! The nurse recommend it as there is a wall with pictures on it so she said turn him around so he sleeps on the other side! Good luck with the gp, I am sure it is fine but I can imagine quite stressful.

AFM - SAm has had a few rough days. His sleeps are a bit strange and he is waking with gas at around 1 hour partciularly in the morning. I have been putting in the dummy to soothe him back to sleep but am hating doing it as I don't want it to become a habit. Not sure how else to help his gas though. It isn't that bad, he just doesn't settle back to sleep. Apart from that lots more talking now and kicking and he is really great at tummy time! Today and yesterday were a bad day as each time he goes in the cot he just starts howling! I think he is becoming aware of things and so I am trying not to pick him up too often and try to settle him in the cot instead. Sounds like everyone is having a bit of a 10 week thing. He looks like he is trying to push to roll over too. Anyway, hopefully he will improve over the next few days. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi Everyone -

Jetta - we had exactly the same days with Nate last week, he wouldn't settle and would finally fall asleep in our arms and then as soon as we crept over to the cradle and put him in he would wake and scream. It took about 3 - 4 days and then he was back to normal and is sleeping really well again now.

Great to hear the weight gains on the bubs a true sign of thriving babies!

For those in Melbourne, I hope the rain eases up for the grand final and that some of this rain hits the catchment areas so we can have some water for summer.

Sorry for no other personals - still trying to keep up with where everyone is at.

i think it was a 1 night wonder with anton sleeping asleep at 9pm sofar awake at 12.30 for a snack asleep now at 12.50. rearrange my lounge lastnight couldnt believe how much dust was sitting round in there tonight ive done some shopping ready for yet another bday party next saturday the last 1 for the year n climb up onto my kitchen benches to dust the top of the cupboards

Jess - you are sooo good with the cleaning!! God, I am hopeless!!! I am moving in 3 weeks and it is all those spots - behind beds, on top of cupboards that are going to be really bad!!!!

LNB - I agree, Sam has settled a little bit better as well so I think they just have their good days and bad days as well.

Sam slept from 10pm til 5.50am this morning!! First time with almost a full nights sleep! I am saying to myself it could just be a one off though!! Very happy that he slept through though as I heard him stir about 4.30am but he must have put himself back to sleep! Yay!! We are moving in 3 weeks so busy trying to start packing but looking forward to the long weekend next weekend! How annoying is the weather at the moment! I have no idea what to dress Sam in!! It's cold inside but really warm outside but windy and then the nights have been pretty cold!! Almost summer though!

LF - so good to see you, I knwo how it can be hard when you have those weeks - and I know I am finding it a lot harder this time around than i did last time. i know a few weeks ago i was feeling quite isolated etc, more than i did when i was home with Noah... do you have a double pram? i didnt but i just got one and it has made it so much easier - even when N will walk a bit it means i can geta round the local area faster and i feel more free iykwim? i found a good playgroup nearus that has helped and meant i met a few more local mums too - my friends are not so close so i need to make plans more in advance with them but i bmp into some of these mums at the park or local cafe and that is nice. i think it is also, for me, even more of a feeling of constantly bveing needed by a child - more than when it was just N - a gorgeo0us feeling but i do find it a bit stifling... anyway we are all here when youneed to chat.
Jasp - i know how hard it is to do the childcare thing.. will be thinking of you.
have you all done the 2 months needles? we are booked in next week (he will be 3 months but i like doing it a bit later - and i was slack making the appt)
will go to gp for the fontanelle tomorrow - but scared but better to have it monitored. pls let it be ok...
Jacob is being totally gorgeous - he smiles so much ans does lots of cooing and yesterday was v close to full laughing. he just loves Noah and his face lights up when he comes near - the best thing to see. i can see how much he will leanr from him - Noah is constantly saying 'look jacob it's a.... (plae, train, apple etc)' LOVE IT!

hey everyone, sorry i havent been on here in a while been very very busy :)

well little miss amiteal is now 14 weeks old today, weight 5 kg and is 53cm long :D

very cheeky little girl hehe, very loud and talkative ( must get that from mum)
she has her last bottle at 1030-11 and wakes between 5-7, so i get a few good hours sleep thank god :)

her big brother is madly in love with her and it is soooo cute :)

well im hoping everyone else and there r doing good and ill come back on more often now :D:lol::dance:

Hi all, have had a tough week with miss E but today is fine. I think she has had a wonder week. Yesterday she fed hourly, so I was exhausted by 10pm. I am hoping that my supply is not drying up

BekZ - I don't think your supply is drying up. Sounds like the 12 week growth spurt! From what I understand, the increased feeding sends the message to your brain to produce more milk to meet bub's growing needs. Hopefully the feeding frenzy dies down soon though!

Blayne and Jetta - wtg on the big night-time sleep!

Mamapan - haven't had the two month needles yet - was too scared to confess to the MCHN yesterday ;-) Planning to get them this week - when he was due I had a cold and didn't want to take the risk of him having the needles on top of having a cold. Besides, I'm not really looking forward to it...

AFM - had our MCHN 3 month check yesterday (which I had forgotten about but fortunately had booked it for right before mothers' group) - Zac is now 62cm long and 5.74kg, apparently about the size of a 4-month old? He looks very long and slim. He has put on over a kilo since the last MCHN visit! She has been muttering for a while about his hips - she can't get them to open out as flat as they should, although she thinks that may be because he has strong muscles. However, I'll take him to the Dr for a check. Apparently he was supposed to have a 6 week 'hips and heart' check which I didn't know about. Oh well, he's 13 weeks today - hopefully I don't get told off about it and not getting his needles done yet ;-)

beautiful sunny day here in Melbourne today - what a relief after the enormous amount of rain we've had.

My little boy is 3 months old.
When he was a week or two old he loved tummy time and would push himself up on his forearms. Now when i put him on his tummy he tolerates it for about a minute then starts to gets irritated. He also no longer attempts to push up on his arms and look around.
He only has a slight interest in toys, he's just started to look at and bat at the toys in his bouncer in the last couple of days and i've never seen him try to reach for anything. He sometimes holds my hand while i feed him but never tries to hold anything else. Is this just normal development or is he falling behind?
I'm also a bit worried about the the shape of his head... It's rounded but he seems to have trouble turning it from side to side when he's on his back because it sticks out at the back. If that makes sense?
Please tell me what you think.

I'm not sure how it works in Qld, but I assume you would have some sort of equivalent to the Maternal & Child Health Nurses (MCHN) we have in Victoria. I would contact them first off.

Lots of babies dislike tummytime, esp for extended periods of time - I wouldn't worry about that too much :-)

Hi Heva - I think there are MACH nurses in every state - that would be a good place to go to discuss your concerns, they sound normal to me but if you are like me you would want someone to look at him and tell you he is ok. it's hard not to worry isnt it!
Bekz - I think J is also maybe having a wonder week, he is alot less settled and feeding like a MONSTER! i better read up on wonder weeks again ithink! he is 12 weeks so i tgink that aligns? I ended up getting the mountain buggy double and I LOVE IT! it is heavy if you are lifting in and out of car (whcih i dont much i use it more for walks from home) but it is great, they are both really comf in it and it is a dream to manouvere considering its size. i got a good prie for it froma website (though it is expensive) pm me if you want details.
Lovelycate - they do tend to make you feel guilty about the needles if you are late... ia m 6 months late for one for Noah...ooops! i HATE having them done... feels good when tit is out of the way though. i recommend doing ti at the gp as you dont have to wait around for as long and mainly bc you dont have to see heaps of other kids crying from them... anyway, i got J;s done this morning - he cried butwas ok after a feed.. i brought him home and gave him some panadol though just bc N always gets a temp from them... so far all is ok. he seemed to love the taste of the rotavirus one and licked the spoon the dr was using the catch drips LOL! they also checked his fontanelles and they seem to be tiny or clsoed. gp called paed to discuss and we just have to monitor - as all other signs are good. so i will be going to the nurse for measuring every 2 weeks and back to gp in 2 months to be sure... so a bit if a relief there that there was no mention of an operation or anything nasty like that...
Zac sounds like he is tall! Jacob was 60cm and nearly 6kg last time i had him measured... hmm is eem to have more chubbalubbas!!!

where has the last 11 weeks gone. poor anton has that nasty cough back but he his doing ok he is loving the rice cereal and apple best of all he likes them together, have found the rice cereal on its own gave anton a pain in his tummy but with the apple mixed in to he has been great on.

Jess - sounds like the feeding is going really well which is great!

heva5 - my boy is a bit the same, was pulling himself up to almost 90 degrees but the last week will barely lift his head at all and gets a bit cranky. I just keep at it and encourage it during the day but am hoping he improves a bit in that department as he was so good! Sam is just starting to take an interest in toys the last week and really starting to look around now. I give him things to hold but I do think he still doesn't really understand that he is holding something. Sometimes he is, sometimes he isn't. He doesn't really grab for stuff, I show him or put the toy down for him to try to touch. He is just starting to hit things hanging above his head too so I think as their eyesite improves it will get better. Best thing to do if you have any concerns is either doctor or the child care centre. No amount of questions or checking is bad!!

lovelycate - Sam is 5.7 kgs and was 59cms long at the check up last week so we have some good growing bubs on our hands!

bekz - hope things start improving this week! How much fun are the wonder weeks! Not!!! Just when you feel like you have things under control it all goes out of whack again!

I have some questions for breast feeding mums who are roughly sort of doing a schedule. Sam is feeding around 3 1/2 hourly at present, many times I am still waking him. Eg this morning - awake at 6.30am for feed and play then back to sleep at 7.30am. I woke him at 10am for a feed and he was showing tired signs at around 10.40am so he is now back to bed again. Just sort of wondering what time frames other babies are feeding on now and if anyone else is sort of doing a routine. He is roughly feeding around the same times eg 6.30am, 9.30/10am, 12/30/1pm, then somehwere around 3 to 4pm then around 5.30pm. I then feed him at 10pm and then he is now back to waking somehwere between 2.30 and 4.30am. I see people talk about having their babies up around 7pm but once he goes to sleep after his 5.30pm feed I sort of figure that is bedtime? Is 12 hours sleep at night a good thing? Some naps during the day are 2 1/2 hours then others are around 40 minutes, if he isn't due for a feed I just play with him and put him back to bed or play and feed a little early then bit more play then bed. Are other babies only staying awake max 1 hour? Sorry for all questions but just wanting to get an idea of what other breast feeding babies are doing!!!

One more question too - Sam still doesn't really turn to noises, he seems to interested in looking at other things and I will make noises or rattle something and he doesn't really ever turn to the noise. I know he can hear, but should he be doing this now??

Ash has been wanting extra feeds the last few days too Bekz, I think it's probably a 12 week thing. I don't know too much about the wonder weeks, but he has definately been a little bit more grouchy and hungry the last few days...

Lovelycate, way to go on the weight gain! I'm planning on taking Ash into the open clinic for a weight and height check up now that he's 12 weeks.

Heva sounds like your little man is doing much the same as Ash. Sometimes Ash has a couple of days where he does a great job at tummy time, then we'll have a couple where he absolutely hates and the only way he'll tolerate it is if he can get his fist in his mouth, it's quite funny actually he lays there sucking his hand and giving a look of defiance :lol: Ash is only just beginning to recognise toys. He doesn't reach out to them, but if I put them on his chest he will enjoy touching them and then tries to put them in his mouth. Occassionally he bats at the toys on hanging on his playmat, but sometimes I think he hits them by fluke when he is just waving his arms around. I also make a point of actually putting things in his hand to hold, so he gets the idea of gripping things, but he usually lets go pretty soon after. So I wouldn't worry too much, but maybe ask your MCHN about it if it is worrying you...

Jetta your breastfeeding schedule sounds much the same as ours. Ash will generally feed every 3 to 4 hours, often it just depends on the day. For a long time I was waking him for feeds during the day, but now he is pretty used to the routine. The only one I have to wake him for now is the one before he goes to bed. I do however tend to let him sleep to whatever time he wants in the morning (I love getting the sleep in myself if I can!) so that does mean our feeding times vary during the day, but I think it means his body clock gets to set the routine iykwim. I find that the time he wakes up in the morning usually depends on when he had his night feed. If it is around 4am he will usually sleep till sometime between 7.30 and 8.30am. But if he wakes for his feed earlier in the night we usually end up getting up earlier. Up until Monday we were consistently doing 6 feeds a day (around 7.30, 11am, 2.30pm, 6pm, 9pm and 4am), but for the last couple of days he has wanted to feed every 3 hours during the day so we are currently doing 7 feeds at the moment (hope it reverts back soon though!). Our naps also vary a bit during the day, usually anything from 30mins through to a couple of hours. I try to do the feed, play, sleep thing but like you if he wakes early I will try and get him back to sleep, if I can't we'll have a play until it's time for the feed. The amount of time he stays awake also varies from 45 mins through to about an hour and half depending on how much sleep he's had beforehand. So by the sound of things Sams routine is pretty similar to ours. But at the end of the day I think if it is working for you two don't worry about what other people are doing. I know a few people who thought I was crazy waking Ash up to feed, but it worked for us, we have a great routine and the day goes reasonably smoothly.

jetta - we're not really doing a schedule here, still doing demand feeding but i think DS is pretty much working his own schedule out as we go along...DS feeds during the day anywhere between 2-3 hours usually. our daytime sleeps have been all over the place & they can vary from 40 mins - 1.5hrs. our bedtime is 6.30-7pm - that has kind of just happened by itself & mostly came from DS not being a good afternoon sleeper so being cranky around 5.30 & so that's when we'd start preparing his bath (because he loves it & it always improves his mood :lol:), then after that feed him/moisturise/massage & then he's asleep somewhere between 6.30-7.

i was keeping track of his feeds (in a desperate attempt to find some sort of pattern for a routine) but it was doing my head in so i stopped! i'm trying to get him to sleep during the day after i see the 2 tired signs (which i have noticed being around one hour, if i'm out he might stay up a bit longer) but it's a bit hit & miss. i was doing feed-play-sleep but then found that i ended up doing a feed-play-feed-sleep more often than not & now i just go along with what i think DS wants. i'm a very naughty mummy and often play-feed-sleep & he falls asleep while feeding. but for us, that works as it means he has his nap without fighting it. i also like feeding before sleep because it seems that he gets too hyper after playtime & he won't go straight to sleep!

okay, so now i've written an essay & i'm probably no help at all because i do lots of things i 'shouldn't' :lol: what i did find when i was writing down his feeds, that pretty much most days he would feed 8-9 times no matter what time they were. he was feeding more often but he dropped feeds on his own & i'm hoping he'll continue to do that. i think he's probably still around the 8-9 a day now because he wakes up usually twice overnight.

I agree Sarah - what you do sounds like me!!!! i demand feed and often feed just before bed...
Did the same with Noah too.... and he is still with us at 2yo LOL so it cant be all wrong!
