jetta - yoghurt is a fave here as well. i just get the jalna natural full fat. sometimes i mix fruit through it but mostly just plain. how long corey is awake for depends a bit on how long he's slept for but pretty much it's around 2 hours.

Jetta Ash also loves his yoghurt! I've been buying the Vaalia baby one, not sure if it is any different to the normal yoghurt though... Ash is also back in bed within 2 hours, he just gets too tired and grumpy if I keep him up longer.

Cate, so far the necklace does seem to be working (hard to really tell though). We've had it for two days now and he has slept through both nights, so based on that I think it's working, mind you it's still a PIA putting him down for the night, but once he's down it has been good, so that is a big improvement

Storm I also wait about half an hour after a BF to give Ash his solids. So far I haven't seem any difference in the amount of BM he's having, but I guess I will just wait and see and follow his lead before dropping a feed. From what I've heard though, formula is a bit more filling and heavier than BM so Hayley might be okay if you replace a FF with solids.

Anyway gotta run, the little man has just woken up. We're off to do his needles this afternoon, so not looking forward to it!

Miss E - Zac just had his needles this arvo too! We also went to the GP - I actually prefer the community clinic as the nurses are just so lovely and super fast, but they're not open yet and we're off to NZ next week. Went pretty well - he certainly wasn't impressed, but seemed to get over it fairly quickly with a cuddle. Still waiting to see if he has a bit of a reaction - he did with the 4 month ones. How did Ash go?

We've had a super clingy day today - even before his needles he wouldn't let me put him down without yelling. It was a struggle to even brush my teeth. Right now he is lying on the floor next to me, kind of half crying/talking. He seems to be getting very frustrated atm - whenever he tries to reach for a toy he tends to push it away... and OMG the screaming! He's definitely found his voice!!

better go and try to entertain him for a bit. WRT how long other babies are staying up - Zac is now going for 2-3 hours - it's hard work!

thanks for the advice re solids ladies, very helpful I think it's easier to try and make the solids one meal in itself...the formula tin reckons she should only be having 4 milk feeds a day which is what we have done today so far, but I have just put her to bed and I bet she will be awake in an hour like she has been doing lately and won't go back to sleep until after 9 (it was 10 last night before she finally went to sleep!) so will fit in another feed then. Just when I thought I had everything flowing smoothly and we were in some sort of routine it all changes again...lol.

Hayley is getting her 6 month check up and needles tomorrow, hopefully she goes alright as she hasn't been weighed since about 4 months. I hope our new MCHN is good too, they sounded nice on the phone but you never know until you meet them!

Cate I know what you mean about entertaining them...Hayley is up for 2 to 2 1/2 hours usually, but has gone for 3 1/2 hours if I have gone out and she won't go to sleep in her pram. At the moment she loves throwing/dropping things...she'll sit there for ages picking up a toy and dropping it, but dropping it far enough away from her that she can't reach so will grumble until i pick it up for her and give it back. I got her some little balls (the fisher price 'roll-a-rounds' balls) and she loves rolling them around, or picking them up and dropping them then watching them roll away. They'll be great when she is a bit older and we can roll them back and forth to each other.
She is trying hard to move...managed to go forwards a litle bit yesterday, not crawling just squiggling. I don't think she is too far off crawling though, the way she is going she'll start crawling in her cot as that's where she practises getting right up on her knees the most...lol.

lol, I know what you mean, Arlea just about does head-stands sometimes in her cot...up on all fours rocking back & forth with her head down like a little bull

jasp - lol at the mental picture of Arlea in her cot :-)

we spent the day yesterday at the Koo Wee Rup Early Parenting Unit. It was really good, really interesting, but man, a really long day! Unfortunately DH couldn't come with us as he is in NZ for work, so I think that made it a bit harder for me. There were four babies in the session, so it was a nice small group.

They're very keen on structure and routine - their point was that if we had the sort of baby who will sleep anywhere, we wouldn't have been there! There's a bit of stuff I will take on board, but probably not all of it. Their advice re his feeding and sleeping was really helpful though, and he had two really good sleeps while we were there. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the Melbourne area.

Apart from that I am gearing up to fly to NZ early on Thursday morning for three weeks - feeling a bit apprehensive about it, mainly the time involved in actually getting there - carrying my big Tonka around the airport and hopefully keeping him quiet on the plane. Plus dealing with formula and solids on the plane... hmm, it's going to be interesting!

Cate it is really quiet here these days isn't it... I think we lost a few people when we moved to this third thread, but hopefully they will find us soon. How did Zac's needles go? Good Luck for the NZ trip, hopefully the flight will all go smoothly for you.

Jasp, Ash is the same, he's so much more adventurous in his cot than he is on the floor!

Storm how did Hayley's needles go? We did ours on Thursday and Ash ended up quite unwell for a couple of days. The doctor said it is because their immune systems are a lot stronger now so they just go into overdrive trying to fight it. I guess it is a good thing, but I haven't ever seen him so unwell so I found it quite hard (yes, we've been lucky and have avoided all the colds and flus so far).

AFM we had a few quiet days over the weekend while Ash recovered from his shots. DH's mum and aunt left on Friday, so we were also able to have a bit of family time which was lovely. But his Dad and Stepmother arrived yesterday so we are back into the craziness again. His Dad has also brought a cold/flu with him so I am really hoping that we manage to avoid getting it, especially Ash. I feel a bit mean but I got DH to ask him to keep his distance from him until he is better. Poor guy, he's waited 6 months to meet his first grandchild and so far hasn't been able to give him a cuddle. Oh well, hopefully he will be better soon...

Miss E- Hope Ash doesn't catch the cold! We have been lucky to escape any sickness here too so far.
Hayley was fine after her needles. She was a bit grizzly, but who knows if that was due to the needles or teeth, or she has also been a bit constipated so it could have been that too as she was mostly her usual self just had a few grumpy moments!

We had a trip to the doctor on Saturday...she had been a bit constipated for a few days, I'd tried giving her more water and giving her stewed apples/pears instead of rice cereal but it wasn't helping and she was getting worse. Friday night when I put her to bed she started screaming, she was trying to do a poo..it must have hurt her so much I don't think I've heard her cry like that before. There was a bit of blood when I wiped her so I thought I'd take her to the dr just to get her checked out...if there was no blood I probably wouldn't have been so worried. Fat lot of help he was...apart from the fact I could hardly understand a word he was saying...he gave me a prescription for a cream that's like a local anaesthetic/lubricant...I didn't get it filled out though as I saw in the info on his screen that it hasnt been used a lot in children so they don't know the side effects..and that it has to go right inside, I didn't want to cause anymore distress or trauma than she was already going through! Got some prune juice for her on Sunday and she loved it! Lol i thought she would refuse to drink it...then MIL is like dont give her prune juice, i found this article online that says not to give it to babies as it has a bowel irritant... Well everything else I read suggested using it...
Anyway I think she is getting better, still getting one little kind of hard bit everytime she poos but it's nowhere near as bad. We changed to step 2 formula last week so I think that's what caused it...hopefully her little body is getting used to it now. She doesn't seem to want to drink much though, she only completely finishes one or two bottles a day, the rest are all only half or three quarters eaten..depressing- I hate having to throw out so much formula!

She also had her 6 month check up, now weighs 8.7kg (no wonder my arms feel like they are going to fall off carrying her around sometimes!) is 70.5cm long and HC is about 43.5cm (I think..cant remember that one. lol). She is very tall for her age, just off the growth charts, so I'm guessing she isn't going to take after me in the height (or should that be short ) department.

Cate- sounds like you had a successful day yesterday! What methods do they use? (i.e. CC or 'gentle' methods?).

gotta go..someone is awake. we are back to 30-40min sleeps during the day and the time goes so quickly it feels like she is only asleep for 10 mins!

miss E - Zac didn't seem to have any reaction to the needles at all this time, thank goodness!

ss_storm - changed Zac to stage 2 formula recently too, but it seemed to have the opposite effect on him :-) Fortunately that has settled down now. Plenty of people use prune juice with babies - you may just want to water it down a bit.

The place yesterday does what they call 'responsive settling', definitely not CIO. What was good about it was having somebody there saying, "yes, he's crying, but that's not a distressed cry, he's just making noise, now he's starting to calm down, or he's getting more unhappy go in and settle him" Listening to the other babies I could really see how we react so much faster and more emotionally to our own babies, so that was really helpful.

Of course, he woke up screaming after twenty minutes this morning...

ss_storm: Try coloxyl drops (sp?) you can buy it from the chemist, Cam has bowel probs and this works a charm, also being 6months now, you can buy blackcurrent juice from the baby section, this also helps. HTH

Thanks naomi, Imight get some of them tomorrow..at nearly $6 a bottle for prune juice it could get quite expensive especially when she doesnt have that much and it apparently only lasts for 5-7 days in the fridge!

Oh my gosh lladies I have not been on in forever. I miss my belly buddies. Well here is an update on Sophie:

She now weighs 11 lbs 14 oz.
25 inches long
Can roll both ways
Can sit up independantly
can smile/ laugh
make babbling noises (mamam)
grab for toys
put things in her mouth

As for us things have been definitely getting better. We finally moved out of my parents house and got our own house. Also we are getting married on March 21st! Super excited about that one. Sophie has been dealing with weight problems due to how much she weighed at birth and we are now making our own babyfood to help fatten her up!

jessicarabe - Congrats!!! That is so exciting and I am so glad you have moved out too. That must be so much better. Glad everything is going well for you guys.

SS Storm- I hope things get better with the constipation! It sounds like things are improving which is good. You think everything is going fine and always something changes!!!

LovelyCate - glad that you have received some helpful advice, it sounds like a really good place to go. Good luck with the flight! I can imagine that I would be pretty stressed doing it on my own too. I think people are pretty understanding when you are on your own and at least its only a 3 hour flight, not 24!!! There is so much stuff to take!!

Miss E - Sounds like Ash is doing really well! Gosh you have been busy with visitors!! I am glad he feels better after the needles, its amazing the reaction that they have with them! We have our shots on 2nd FEb as our doctor is away so not looking forward to it!

AFM - we are doing well. My hubby is staying home one day a week with Sam now which he absolutely loves. I am not working 3 days a week but the office is only 5 minutes from home so we pop home for lunch a lot. Sam has his two bottom teeth and his top one on the right of the front teeth has come through too! He has been fine with it which is good.
He has been so funny, I put him in the cot twice yesterday for a sleep and both times I came back and he had turned himself 180 degrees!! He has been doing this bum thrusting thing on his back where he lies there and humps upwards!! He looks so funny. He has been settling pretty well most of the time but his morning sleep was 2 hours is now more like 1 - 1 1/2 hours instead. I think he is heading to staying awake for 2 hours but I still don't think that he is ready to cut the middle sleep out. I have bought his 10pm feed back to 8.30pm last night so hopefully that feed is almost gone. It is really hard working and pumping so I am considering adding some formula feeds in just to save me the time. I don't want to wean to early but at the same time I do!! I know I won't get this special time back with him so I will keep going.
We have our early childhood appointment next week. SAm hasn't put much weight on over the past month, he is still the same, I was a bit worried but a friend said they are a lot more active now. Anyway, I will speak to her.

just a quick update Anton is rolling all over the floor sleeping from about 9pm to 5.30am he is having 3 solid feeds a day and 6-7 bottles with cups of water in between and he has doubled his birth weight

Anton sounds like he is going great guns Jess, is he liking all his "big boy" meals? He sounds like a good eater, I've been struggling to get Hayley to have 5 full bottles a day...she only ever seems to have half or 3/4 of a bottle and refuses to have anymore.

Well, I don't think it will be long until she is crawling...she is pulling herself all over the floor now. She has some little Fisher Price balls that she loves rolling/throwing around the floor, and if they end up close enough to her she'll wriggle over to it and grab it, ready to start all over again...wooden floors are great for rolling balls around! Lol. So yep I don't think it will take her long to coordinate her arms/legs for crawling. Ran around and put safety plugs in all the unused power points, and put some soft corner covers on our coffee table as the corners are quite sharp. That's about all the baby proofing I have done so far...not really sure what else I can do? At least until she is old enough to start opening cupboard doors.

I think she is transitioning to only having two day sleeps...I don't know if that's a good thing or bad..probably the last 4 days she has only had two day sleeps but has gone to bed at 6.30/7pm and slept through either all night until between 7am and 8.30, or will wake at 4 or 5am for a feed and go back to sleep. She's starting to go 2 1/2 to 3 hours awake time, sometimes longer if it takes her a while to go to sleep or we have gone down the street and she hasn't gone to sleep in the pram.
I'm starting to run out of things to amuse her with though, as she isn't really old enough to play with toys properly, at the moment she just likes tossing them! Lol.

You can tell she is really starting to love our dog though, she thinks he is so funny and laughs at him all the time, which is good because we can sit outside for a bit and play with him to keep her amused. He's been really good too, he can be a bit bouncy and I've had to growl at him a few times, but she has pulled his fur and his ears, stuck her foot in his mouth a couple of times (oops..lol) and nearly poked his eyes..but he hasn't really flinched. Just have to watch that he doesn't lick her too much!

Ok I better go before it turns into another marathon post! Hope you're all good!

AFM...Arlea is 6 months old today hasn't it gone fast.... she is doing well, I worry a bit that she hasn't gained enough weight... last time I weighed her at the chemist she was 7.6 kg, but she is due for her 6mth needles soon so I will talk to the GP then. I tend to think it's really down to how active she is, plus she has never been a huge milk drinker, I have always struggled to get her to have her bottles. She is doing really well with her solids though enjoying them and I don't think she is too far off 'proper' crawling,. she is moving around the floor now but in the last day or two she is lifting one knee at a time like she is trying to work out the mechanics of crawling... gah she is growing up too fast! Still waking every 3-4 hours overnight though I know it will pass all too soon.
