Jenushka - Wow what a good lil sleeper Lila is! Awful that you had such a horrid night's sleep.. I hope your first big night out on saturday turns out as great as ours was
Joey - How great about the hairdressing friend! I am so looking forward to getting my hair done! I wanted it done before Charlette arrived, but that never happened.
A 6.5hr sleep through the night from Lily - how wonderful for you
Droooooooooooool about your banana muffins, how did they turn out? You've got me keen to make some now. Might have to try on Monday.
Jenushka - if my Lily falls asleep on the breast, she will wake soon after I put her down cause she is always windy, so I have to burp her. Good for you though
Banana muffins were good. Still not used to my hair though. Perhaps if I do it properly instead of just chucking it up in a pony it would look better. It's the same as before I was UTD, but didn't want to foil during my pregnancy, so was very much brown again, and now all of a sudden I'm blonde
How did your sleeps go last night?
Monique - We're having another hair day in about 6 weeks I think, out at a BB's place at the Gap. You're welcome to join us. They are all BB girls, except for the hairdresser. She is cheap too. I got a half head of foils, cut, dry, straighten (and my hair is below shoulders) and it was $60. It'll be on the 26th of August.
AFM - Lily slept from 7.30-12.30, then had really bad wind pain (so getting her some stuff for that today), went back to sleep from 2am- 5.30am. Then from 6am-7.30am when DH woke her to wrap her cause he 'thought she was cold', but really her just wanted a cuddle before he went to work! So not such a good night, but if it wasn't for the wind pain it would have been. So she's down again now and soon we'll head off to Chermside shopping centre, via bus to get the wind drops and look for a new bag for me ... it's my birthday next Friday so I'm buying my own pressie so I get exactly what I want!!
Hi everyone! finally found this thread.
we had our little girl Tully on the 14th june 2 weeks early 7lb 3oz. shes a great baby very content.
noticed your babys are sleeping about 6 hours at night. Tully has has a long sleep of 4 hours. hopefully that will get longer.
gunna try to express my milk to make a bit more for her. i feel she could drink more. maybe thats why shes not sleeping very long!
Hey Brooke - welcome and congrats again on the birth of Tully! Glad you've found this thread
Joey - have a lovely outing to Chermside - the size of that place you could spend all day wandering around if you wanted to! Hope you find a nice bday bag
Well Lila was back to 3 and 4 hourly feeds last night, so the night before was just a teaser! So don't worry Brooke, it sounds like Tully is doing perfectly normally for a breastfed bub of her age. I did have a much better night's sleep though funnily enough - aside from one short unsettled patch she went down well after each feed which was lucky. And for the unsettled patch I just booted DH in the shins and he got her off to sleep
Just got back from doing a big grocery shop with both the kids - was a bit unsure how it would go but ds was very well behaved. Just sat him in the seat bit on the trolley and had Lila in the baby bjorn and she slept the whole time I'm sure not all shopping trips are going to be like that!
Very excited - we're getting insulation put in tomorrow morning (thanks to uncle kevin!). Can't wait to be a bit warmer for the feeds o/night! Other than going to a friends place for lunch tomorrow we're having a quiet weekend.
Hi to Monique and everyone else - hope you all have a great weekend
Hey All...finally have time to post rather then just lurking. This school holidays business is hard work. AM not used to having 3 at home to entertain all the time!
Natalya is also managing to have at least one big stretch of sleeping during the night - she seems to sleep from midnight till around 5-6am and then has another big sleep in the morning. It is now 1.40 and she has been sleeping since 10.30 and we have been out and about at an indoor playground with heaps of noise so I am very impressed! BUT the bad side is that she wants to be held and is extremely whingy from around 7pm through till midnight. You cannot put her down, nor will she drop off to sleep in your arms. I thought it might have been my afternoon coffee or coke affecting her but I dropped those and she was still unsettled so who knows what it is...very frustrating tho.
Jenushka - good to hear the shopping expedition wasnt as bad as imagined. I have been using coles online for most of my shopping since I was heavily pregnant and have loved it.
Brooke - welcome to the group and congrats on Tully. What a sweet name.
Joey - its amazing how much better you feel after a good haircut. I was supposed to go to the hairdressers and the beauticians the day I went into labour so couldnt wait to go when Natalya was 2 weeks old - I felt like a new woman!
Ali - hope the thrush clears up soon. DD1 had it as a baby too. Hows all your pelvic pain going too?
Monique- Glad to hear your SIL's birthday dinner went well...it is such a mission taking all 3 isnt it?
DD1 is at a playdate atm and DS fell asleep in the car on the way home from the playgorund so I have a bit of piece and quiet for once which is nice! The eldest 2 are going for a sleepover at my mums tonight (2nd time this week!!) and DH is off to watch a soccer match so I should have a nice quiet night... provided Natalya goes to sleep!!
Jenushka - Thanks for that. I came across Family Day Care the other day, but it didn't look right. I gave them a call and they are calling me back tomorrow. The next hair day is on 26th August at the Gap. So if you want to come, make sure you keep that day free.
Glad you had a good weekend!
Lolly - So sorry to hear that you are struggling with the fact that you can't BF anymore. It sounds as though you did as much as you could, more than most would, so good on you for that. And 7 hour sleeps!! That's got to be a positive!
AFM - Lily had trouble settling last night. Don't know if I ate too much sugar at the 3 yar oldbirthday party that we went to, or if she was just really over tired as she only napped all day long, normally she will have one big sleep of about 3-4 hours during the day and the rest are just cat naps. Anyway, we had family over for my other DD's birthday so I was stressed out, trying to cook and also settle Lily. I'd just get her off to sleep and she'd wake again 10 mins later. DH ended up getting her off to sleep for good and that was nice that he was the one to achieve that! She went down at about 7 and then woke me at 12.30 and 5.30, so still a good night! I went to bed at 8.30pm (family know not to hang around too late these days!!) and woke at 5.30, so less the hour up in the night, that's 8 hours sleep! I hope she keeps this up. She seems to be making a bit of a habit of it!
DH and I went out on a date on Saturday night. We went out to a Chinese Restaurant. Lily came too, but she slept through the first half, so she was very good. I was really nice and something we needed. I was starting to feel a bit distant, but back to good now. We have decided we are going to make every Saturday night movie night, and get out DVD's and have pizza and make it a couples night.
Joey - Thrush looks like when they have a little bit of chuck stuck to their tongue or inside the mouth somewhere and it doesnt rub off. In the BB it feels like engorgement, even when the BB is empty.
Ang - My pelvis is HEAPS better now. I still have to take it easy but I am able to do more and more each day, which is a huge relief.
Lolly - DD2 couldn't BF (dietary issues) but I felt guilty about it for ages. You did your best hun, and you made the decision that is best for your WHOLE family.
AFM - DH goes back to work tomorrow, so I am about to be in the deep end of having 3. I can pick up DD2 to get her out of the cot and to put her on the change table now so have some more independance back.
Leah is gaining well, another 250g this week, and she is now slightly heavier than what DD1 was at birth, now weighing 3590g!!! 600g heavier than birth weight. Very proud of my BBs and Leah's emptying of them!! Certainly is helping me to accept everything that happened with DD2.
Joey - Bet your hair looks good! A change is always nice. I'm going to give that Banana Muffin Recipe a go, mind you I've NEVER made anything like that before, so I'm curious to see how it turns out!
Thanks for the invite to the gap - not sure I'd survive the trip there, I get so nervous if I am even slightly out of the Redlands Shire!
How funny your hubby wanting cuddles before work. Aww!
Hope you had a great trip to Chermside.
Brooke - Welcome & Congrats on the birth of your little girl!
She sounds like she is doing great. Once she hits her first few growth spurts, you'll notice the difference in her eating & sleeping patterns.
Jenushka - Know how you feel! We can only hope all our shopping trips are the same with our kiddies.
Enjoy your lunch tomorrow & the majority of your quiet weekend!
*Ang* - Hi there, good to see you finally have time to chat with us. Know how you feel having 3 for the school holidays, though this is my first time!
How great is Natayla's night time sleep pattern! Fingers crossed it continues that way.
Yeah it's definitely a mission taking all 3 no matter where you go! Today for instance I wanted to go to the corner shop up the road for a couple of things, yet it exhausted me just thinking of it! LOL Needless to say I didn't get there, but that's not cause I was slack or anything but because my eldest has being vomiting on & off all day, my youngest has had a clingy day of feeding 3 hourly & sleeping very little, but surprisingly my DS has being really great all day! So proud of him.
I hope you had a great night! Lucky thing having your Mum help out by taking the eldest 2. I can only dream that would happen for me.
Not much to report from us, had a rather rough day.
Should be in bed taking advantage of being able to sleep, but my head is in a spin.
Tomorrow had better be a better day!
Hi all, finallly have a moment to write something! Wow isnt motherhood crazy?? Master James has been torturing me slowly with the fine art of sleep deprivation. Unlike so many here, he can't sleep more than 3 hours at a stretch, and thats a rarity! Its actuallly doing my head in a bit, but DH and I are sharing the load as much as possible so that helps.
I had an emergency caeserean which has made the last five weeks much harder than I had hoped. I am still recovering physically from it, and maybe emotionally too. I still dont feel it was medically necessary, but alas it happened and I just need to deal with it. I'm hoping for a VBAC for babe number 2.
I live somewhat remotely so have only had a few car trips since J was born, all medical, but wow.... they were a challenge! I've not been anywhere alone yet (alone as in just me.... I dont think I will ever be truly alone again!!) as I've only just been given the all clear by my doctor to drive, so I now have a new found intense respect and admiration for all the singel mums out there. How do you do it???? Respect
Anyhoo, just thought I'd better start chatting here or else I'd get left behind! Hope you and your babes are all well .
Hi Brooke, welcome and congrats on your new arrival. Your bubba is sleeping just fine for her age. She'll get there.
Jenushka - didn't last long at Chermy, was too tired and just wanted to go home. And the trip there, bus and bus, was a real pain. Can't wait to be able to drive again next Friday!! Found a bag last week and didn't find anything better than that, so it will probably be the one. Will drve there next Friday and buy it then.
Well done on your grocery shop. That's impressive. I always wondered how people do that. I always wondered, what if the older one runs off? You couldn't really run after them. Perhaps only people who have control over their children go out alone!
Hang on ... you're in Brisbane. I can't beleive I just noticed that!! Where are you? You're welcome to our hairday / meetups too if you would like. Perhaps if we can arrange it, yo, Monique and I can meet up one day too!!
Ang - I don't envy you having 3 to look after. I hope you're going ok. Well done on the noisy playground sleep! As for the late afternoon/night winging, my bubba won't be nursed to sleep usually at that time either. I need to put her down and let her cry herself to sleep. I wrap her, let her go 5 mins, then if she is still crying, I pick her up and burp her (cause she sucks in wind when she crys), and then once she is burped and settled, I put her down again. If her crys are just wingy and not screaming, I will let her go longer, she is usually asleep by the second go and eight minutes is usually the max it takes her to nod off. They say that you don't need to let them cry themselves to sleep at this age, but Lily won't be nursed. It's like "put me down, I need to sleep". I hope this helps. After a bit of practice you will know if she is going to go to sleep and if she is in pain or just grumpy, etc. GL I hope it works for you. Also the coffee may take a little bit to get out of your system??? I can't eat chocolate or Lily won't go to sleep.
What's thrush?? I should research it, and probably will, IF I REMEMBER, when I am finished here.
Hope you had a nice night when your kids went for a sleepover.
Monique - Hope tomorrow is a better one for you. My SIL and MIN and FIN live at Ormiston, Capalaba and Cleveland, so are you near them? Maybe we could meet up one day I'm out that way??
BD- It's great that DH is helping with your bubba. Is he working too?
I am in exactly the same boat as you. Emergency CS (#2) and very p!ssed off that I didn't get my VBAC. NEXT TIME for sure!!!
Single mums? I agree. Stuffed if I know how they do it!
AFM - Lily has been having bad wind, especially of a night, that is, she has wind and can't get it up, so I went to the chemist and got some infant's friend yesterday and tried it last night at her 11.30 and 3.30 feeds, then i turned the light on to change her at her 3.30 and she had a rash under her chin and her face was all red, so i freiked and called the 13HEALTH number and went through it all, they said she's fine, take her to the dr within the next 3 days. we have a sound and movement monitor so i was able to sleep knowing that would wake me if anything went wrong. anyway, fed herat 5.30 but didn't give her any and when she woke at 9 i checked to see if it was still there ... i put a new tie died suit on her yesterday and she must have dribbled some milk on it and the colour has leaked onto her chin and her face must have just been red cause she was warm or had been laying on it or something - so no rash after all!!!
it was a bit of a scare, but mental note - wash the suits a couple of times first!!!
Also...
I'm looking for a home day care place for when I go back to work, next easter. What's it called when you leave them with someone who has childcare in their home and only looks after a few kids? Any ideas how I can fnd someone in my area who does this?? Have tried searching on the net, but I guess my search words are not the right ones.
Joey - try "family day care brisbane" in google. I just quickly tried that and it came up with a whole heap. I think that's what you're after... and yep, am in Brisbane in carina (so eastside/southside) Thanks for the invite to the meet ups and hair day, and a catch up with yourself and Monique and any other local mums in this thread sounds great too.
We had a great weekend, lunch with our friends was lovely on sat and the kids were both very well behaved. Yesterday had a quiet day - cooked lamb shanks in the slow cooker (so easy) so it was very comforting to have that bubbling away all day and feel like a domestic goddess with minimal effort Looking forward to catching up with a couple of girlfriends through the week - it's nice getting back into it all again.
Hope everyone else is good - had better go and spend some quality time with ds while Lila is asleep. Will try and make it back in later for persies...
Sounds like everyone is going well in these first few weeks. I haven't had time to scratch myself let alone post much so I'm finally catching up on some time. Will is 5wks old today and its been a rocky few weeks, mainly on the BF front. Unfortunately I've had to wean him and he's a fully formula fed boy now :-( I'm still having a hard time dealing with it. To cut a long story short, trying to BF has been hell for us - we took him off the boob at day 10 because my nipples were horrifically damaged. He has a high palate which made attachment difficult and he is absolutely ferocious at the boob. So I had been expressing since then to ensure he got breast milk and hopeful that things would heal and I could get him back on.
That all went pear shaped when I got thrush and a bacterial infection on my nipples, discovered that vasospasm was making things worse, and just over the weekend I got another infection flair up - a combination of mastitis and the bacterial infection getting into a wound on the nipple. Very painful. So we've weaned. I've never been in so much pain in all my life - even expressing was painful. Not to mention taking up precious time that I could be spending with my boy. I persevered for as long as I could. I just have to deal with the fact that my boobs weren't meant to feed this little one....maybe next baby
He has taken to the bottle fine, and he is stretching out his night sleep to about 7 hours now which is brilliant. We feed him around 8pm and 11pm and he'll sleep until about 6:30am the next morning. He's happy and settled and getting more and more alert. And now that I'm not attached to a breast pump for most of my day we can get out and about a bit more and I can have my sanity back.
All this hair-do stuff sounds good - i need a colour desperately. Re-growth is looking hideous. Thankfully my best friend is a hairdresser who works from home. I can go and hang at her place for an afternoon with Will and get hair done too. And my hariy legs look like something from the black swamp - time for a wax! Thank god its winter.
Take care all x will try and come back more often.
Lolly
