joey - a meet up sounds great - next week we're free Mon, Wed and Fri... and yes, the dust! Not as bad as Sydney by the looks of things but it was still pretty bad here, and weird.... Closed up the house and ran the air cons all day so I've probably clogged the filters but oh well! And you sound like you're very organised for the next bubby - when do you think you'll start trying again?

Well, Lila must have heard me complaining about lack of sleep yesterday - she went from 7.30pm - 6am overnight Like lolly, I just need to get myself into bed earlier to make the most of it, but I feel like it's the only time I get to myself all day! I'd expected that when Lila woke up she'd realise she was starving and start screaming her head off, but instead she just started babbling away to herself and when I went in to get her she gave me the biggest smile ..... aaaaaahh Anything could happen tonight but it was nice to get a break from zombie-ness today

Jen - Will does the same thing in the mornings when he wakes up....we lie in bed and listen to him for ages just babbling and cooing away. Its the nicest thing to wake up to. And he gives us the biggest smiles to when go in to get him out of bed in the mornings. He's a happy little chappy
Joey - it sounds likes you're doing all the right things to get your VBAC. Its hard to try and 'let it all happen' though isn't it? I look back on how I was approaching things during my pregnancy, and what I did to prepare for birth. I was very focussed on achieveing a natural birth, I actually didn't even entertain the notion of needing a c-section and every now and then I have days where I beat myself up for not preparing myself better for that possible scenario (that actually DID eventuate unfortunately). DP has said a few times since the birth, lets never ever be unprepared for all possible scenarios like were were. He was just as disappointed as I was. But I'm not going to apologise for being firmly focussed on achieving the birth I wanted. Next time round, I'll still remain focussed but maybe with a slighly more open mind about how things might go.
We've got major thunderstorms in SA this week, and last night there were a few cracks of thunder that were SO loud. I felt the house shaking. They scared the crap out of me, I woke up startled holding onto DP. He rolls over and says to me....."can you go check on Will?'....and I'm like "yep, but only if you come with me!"....I was such a chicken. So off we both go into Will's room to see if he's been woken up. He was FAAAAAAST asleep. i think they probably startled him, but didn't wake him which was good. I was more scared then he was!!!!!!
Monique and Jenushka - If you're free next Monday around 10am (or earlier if you want) I'm going to try and oranise a few mum's to meet up at my place (mostly BB girls that I have met through other threads). Usually we just bring a plate of food to share (for the adults). I'm in Hamilton.

Jenushka - We'll start trying as soon as my period returns. But I'm BF exclusevly (sp?) so I don't know when they will return. Even though Lily's labour was horrible I can't wait to do it all again!! I know, I'm crazy!
Yeah Lila!! All night sleep. WOW!!
LB - I was exactly the same with my pregnancy. CS did not even enter into my mind. I was so determined to have a VBAC. I just hope I can have a more open mind next time too. We'll see.
Yay Will for sleeping through thunder
Well Lily only woke twice last night and she's been a perfect baby today, so I don't know what has been going on, but looks like she might be going back to her usual self. I can't beleive, she had about half an hour tummy time out side on the varandah this morning all by herself with no entertaining, I just watched her from inside while I was on the computer. She was so happy and I think she would have stayed longer, but I felt so bad for leaving her for so long!
Go the Eels tonight!!! We're going over to my dad's to watch the game. The eels are my DH's team and the Broncos are my team, and they play tomorrow. If we both win, we'll have both teams in the final next weekend. I hope so.

How are your babies going with their sleep? Lily started sleeping from 7pm-1am then through till morning at 4 weeks, but hasn't done that for about a month now and over the last week or so she has been waking every 3-4 hours (she is being BF every 2.5-3 hours in the day). Any suggestions??
Morning all - its been a while from my end but I have been lurking.
Joey - Natalya is still sleeping through, we havent had any change in sleeping habits so cant help you there nor offer any suggestions. Sorry - hope she settles down again for you soon tho.
Clare- Hope your wedding went well and it was a perfect day for you.
Lolly - Your little fellow sounds like Natalya, a really happy little thing who gives us the most fantastic smiles in the morning - some days it is a race between DH and I to get up so that we are the ones that get the smiles.It is a lovely way to start the day.
Natalya hasnt rolled over yet, I checked my other two's record books and they all rolled over around the 14 week mark so it should happen soon. Mind you, being the "baby" of the family she is constantly held and carried by everyone so I suspect she will be a bit slower in achieving her physical milestones then the others!! She was weighed and measured last week and she is 6.2 kilos and 61cm.
We have school holidays here in WA now so the next couple of weeks should be interesting!
FINALLY bubs is asleep in bed. It took me 2 hrs of up and down, feeding, rocking to sleep then putting him in his cradle only having him wake up again 10 mins later. Arrrrrgh. Thankfully once he's down properly though he's there until morning.
DP is out late tonight, his band are playing a gig so its just me and the computer now that Will is in bed. Some chocolate wouldn't go astray LOL! Hmmmm maybe I've got a Magnum stashed in the freezer....have to go check that out later
Been watching the movie 'Knocked Up' on telly tonight, pretty funny.
Joey - how are Lily's nights going this week? Apart from a growth spurt or a wonder week, I dunno mate? Do you wrap her at night? They're little mystery creatures some times aren't they?!
Will has his 4 month jabs next week, not looking forward to that. We've also had poo problems....poor little guy. He's had a few that are fully formed, like adult poos (not that big though) just not runny like baby poo should be. And he had such a hard time getting them out, not fun at all. He's on formula so they've just suggested giving him plain water a bit each day to see if it resolves. We'll have to wait and see. If it doesn't get better I'll have to try a different brand.
Other than that, he's a happy little guy. I reckon teeth are gonna happen sooner rather than later. He is gumming EVERYTHING he can get his little hands on. And drool city!
As for me, I managed to clear out my neglected veggie patch today. After Will was born, it got pretty low on the priority list. Now its time to get organised to plant our summer crop. I can't wait until Will is old enough to 'help' in the patch!

Hi All! What on earth was going on with bb yesterday? I've been awol yet again, have just been so busy - doing what I'm not exactly sure! Have had a weekend a week or so ago at my MIL's place on the sunshine coast - that was nice, and we've just had a lot of stuff to get done around the house too which has kept me busy. Oh, and the kids too
We had Lila's 4 month check-up and needles with the GP yesterday, and all is going great. My petite miss is still on the titchy side though - 5.5kg, 63cm long and head circ 39.5cm. Her weight has dropped down a bit on the charts so am on a program to beef her up a bit - instead of feed-play-sleep, we're going to do feed-play-feed-sleep. Lila seems to be enjoying the extra feed so far, and was back doing a 8 hr stretch of sleep o/night . May even try offering her a bottle of formula once a day if she'll take it... Dr said she was very happy with how she was going, she's hitting all her milestones and that she would look at the baby before looking at the numbers which was reassuring, and seeing as though her length puts her on 75th centile she is prob investing all her energy in getting longer! Will take her back to GP in a month for a check on her measurements just for my peace of mind. DH reckons I'm not happy unless I've got something to stress about (lol!). It's just weird having a little bub - my ds was always such a big boofa!
She did well with the needles, only a little cry, and managed to get most of the syrup stuff in her mouth this time. I also got the swine flu jab - GP told me it is free for parents of 0-6 month olds - so I felt Lila's pain! DH is heading off to get the jab this afternoon...
Lolly - LOVE the avvy! Hope Will's poos don't keep hurting him (poor little guy). GL with his jabs. I clicked on your FB link but it just took me to my fb home page. I'll PM you my name so you can add me if you like
joey - how are Lily's nights going this week? The GP told me yesterday that the recommendation for starting solids is to now offer it from 4-6 months. Could always see how she goes with it - might even resolve the sleep problem perhaps? I offered Lila some rice cereal yesterday, don't think she's quite ready though. Started ds at 5 months, will prob do the same with L. And bugger about the Eels loss

Joey & Jen - got you both on FB now, very cute photos of your gorgeous girls I must say! And can I just say how much i would love to be living in QLD right now. It is SO BLOOMING COLD in SA grrrrr (or I should say brrrrrrrr!) I can't believe its October and its still freezing. We're starting to get some sunny days which is nice, but its still freezing and I am totally OVER IT. I feel the cold really badly and we live in a cold part of the hills in Adelaide, but this is just ridiculous. We got first electricity bill since Will was born and it was not pretty let me tell you that. I want a holiday somewhere warm and sunny....waaaahhhhhhh maybe then I might de-frost a bit.
We had 4 month jabs yesterday. Poor Will, big cry when the stick them in and then a bit of a sook and cuddle with mum. I put him down to dress him and he just starts laughing and blowing raspberries as if nothing happened. So thats good he took it all in his stride. They don't seem to affect him too much afterwards either which is good.
Well as for me, I'm a tad frustrated as I've been left with the organising of my MILs upcoming 60th surprise b'day party (in a few weeks time). My SIL was meant to have it under control (or so she said) but it turns out no-one's talked to anyone and nothing has been finalised. I got a venue organised this morning which is a start and am about to TAKE CONTROL. I hate it when people can't be honest about taking on this kinda stuff. If you can't do it, don't offer.
We're off to mum's group this arvo so that should be nice. And I have my house being inundated with blokes this weekend.....Bathurst is on of course. DP makes his own timber slot car (you know scalextric cars) tracks and has a giant one in our shed. They race like its the end of the world. I'm leaving the premises on Sunday when it all gets to serious! And I'm not cleaning until next week, cos if I do it today, it will all just be undone.

Just wanted to say lolly and joey how lovely it has been seeing you on fb - what gorgeous bubs you both have! Lolly - Will is an absolutely beautiful boy and looks like he has as much hair as Lila! And joey, love all the photos of Lily's beautiful smile, and super wow at her rolling.... In one of your video clips she rolls and then does an almost crawl I reckon you've got an early walker there hun! And you both kind of looked how I'd thought of you in my head ... weird hey?!
Lolly - will happily house-swap with you (lol) - I am a definite cold-bug and often wonder what on earth I was thinking moving to brisvegas! GL surviving the bathurst onslaught this weekend, and also with sorting out your mil's party - how frustrating!
Other update from check-up I forgot to mention was that Lila has a mild flat spot on one side of her head. Not bad enough to be referred to anyone yet but we now have to constantly make sure she isn't lying on that side in her cot (have switched ends and she sleeps with a rolled up cloth nappy wedged under one side), on her playmat, in the pram etc. Guess as long as it doesn't get any worse we should be right. And she has enough hair to cover it anyhow! We didn't have this problem with ds as he never slept and never wanted to be put down anywhere so its all new to us
Just a quick post from me, I've got a rotten cold and the house looks like a bomb's hit it! Thanks to everyone who sent me well-wishes, the wedding was everything I could've wished for (excluding the dust storm we had at 6am that morning, and the strong wind that we experienced the WHOLE day!).

How is everyone doing? Clare I can so relate - we've all had colds in our house too. Started with me, and then DP and Will got it too. Seems Will got it worse than all of us though, he's got a nasty cough and is generally pretty sooky and clingy. Poor thing. I feel like a bad mummy. And as a result our house looks like someone's come in and tipped everything upside down. Urgh. We are finally getting some sunshine so I'm hoping that fixes us all up.
Jen - Will's hair is definitely a drawcard. I bet you get similar reactions with Lila. None of his has fallen out yet so I'm hoping it stays, its just beautiful and part of his character. Everywhere we got its ''aaawww, look at his hair!" He also has a mild flat spot on one side, but I'm not overly concerned. Our MCHN said they generally resolve over time as their little heads grow so I think we'll just wait a few more months and see what happens.
We still have poo issues. The constipation Will gets sort of comes and goes. He'll have a few days of normal poos with no issue, then go a couple of days with none and then he'll have a day where he's distressed and trying really hard and his poos are more solid. Not nice for anyone, especially him. We've tried water and sugar mix, tried some prune juice too. The hard part is its very random. Hard to know whats working or helping.
Leah is doing so well. She is still so petite (only now starting to outgrow 000) but has plenty of rolls so I know she is healthy. She is getting more and more vocal and is trying to roll. She is still BFing well and sleeping most of the night. She is generally a very happy bub.
She likes to go 6 days between poos at the moment. It has been up to 9 days and down to 3 days but she is not constipated, it still splats like NB poo should.
Must go, someone is calling me.
ETA - Lolly, there is a meetup in Klemzig on 29/12. We will be down for Christmas. Are you going?

Has anyone else tried their bubs on solids yet? Recommendations have changed from when DS was a bub - I've now been told by CHN, Paed and GP that they recommend you start babies on solids between 4-6 months. I've tried Lila a couple of times over the last week and a half with no real success, until today when I offered her a bit of pear mixed with rice cereal and she seemed to enjoy it - we had the whole goldfish mouth opening thing happening which was great Just curious as to what everyone else is doing?
Ali - so great to hear that Leah is going well - was wondering the other day how everyone from our belly buddies group is going.
Lolly - Sorry to hear you've all been unwell - so hard when bubs get sick too, they just seem so confused by feeling so terrible! And yes, lots of comments on Lila's hair but she does have tonnes. Hers is a bit patchy now as she seems to have lost it everywhere except right on top of her head! Funny thing is, the sonographer made a casual observation during a scan I had at 36wks that "this baby won't have much hair - maybe a little bit of peach fuzz". So funny then when Lila came out and had the full lego man helmet hair happening!! Not sure how best to help Will with his poo problems - have you tried the glycerol suppositories? We've used them a few times with Lila and had great success - normally softens things and gets them moving very quickly, last time only took 15 minutes and seemed to give her instant relief from the sore tummy at least. It doesn't seem to hurt her when they go in either (erk!) which I was a bit worried about.
Lila seems to be gaining weight very well indeed - 500g in 2 weeks! Lots more very wet nappies and the poos have returned with a vengeance... We had to give her a supp last Friday night as she was v uncomfortable, and since then we have been getting 2 or 3 big soft poos each day! DH and I were completely out of practice changing pooey nappies but we've caught up now She seems to often take the extra bf if offered, and is enjoying her now two bottles of formula a day too. If I'm honest I am quite enjoying that little bit extra freedom it's afforded me. Seems like it was a good course of action for all - we even had another 11hr sleep last night...
Also had a call from ds's daycare and it looks as though Lila will have a place in the nursery at the end of Jan, meaning I'll probably be back at work mid-Feb Good and bad news in that we don't have to worry about her not getting in, but am sooooooooo enjoying my time with her and ds, would rather never go back at all! Purely a financial necessity, but hopefully work will let me cut back from 4 days to 3, and my mum will look after the kids one day a week - 2 days a week isn't all that bad relatively I suppose....

Hi Jen - My MCN told me not to start Lachie on solids until 6mths at the earliest! However he's been drinking 220mls each feed 3 hourly during the day! He just didn't seem satisfied, and was amazed by Matt and I eating so after chatting with a couple of friends and finding that they had started their lil one's before 6mths, I started Lachie on solids on Sunday morning on his 2nd feed of the day at about 10am. I prepared the Farex as per the instructions on the box.... 1tbsp to 2-3 tbsp heated formula. I was amazed at how much the cereal expands when liquid is added! 1tbsp turned into about 3!!!
Anyway he ate about 1/4 of it whilst pulling the funniest faces, and then seemed to get cranky as it wasn't going down as quickly as the milk normally does so he wasn't feeling satisfied quickly enough (kinda like he used to get when he was trying to unsuccessfully suck on my boob!).
On Monday I made up 1/2 of the recommended amount and made it a little runnier) and he ate about 1/3 of it, then Tuesday I made up the same amount as Monday - and he ate all of it! Yesterday I made up 3/4 of the recommended amount and he ate all of it, so this morning I made up the whole recommended amount and he ate the lot with a big smile on his face and lots of giggles! I am now waiting to see how his tummy copes, and am monitoring his poos too make sure he doesn't get blocked up!
I've also been giving him what's left in his bottle after his cereal (he's only been drinking what he wants to fill him up) but now that he's eating the whole amount of his cereal, I'm going to start making his cereal with water, and offering him water instead of formula when he's finished in the hope that the extra water will ward-off any constipation I'm also going to continue giving him the same amount of cereal as today for a week to make sure his system copes, then I'm looking at starting to add some pureed pear to his cereal too.
Good luck with Lila's solids, by the sound of it she prefers the cereal with pear, and to be honest I don't blame her - have you tasted it? It's pretty average!!!!

Ang - That's so cute that you and DH run to get the first smile of the day. I am very happy for DH to receive the first smiles of the day, I get lots during the day, so have decided to trade them for my soft pillow!

I know what you mean about drool city! We have that going on here too. And Lily puts everything in her mouth too, but I don't think she's getting teeth yet. I have heard that babies feel things with their lips and mouth and this is why they stick everything in their mouth??

What a bugger about having to organise your MIL's party. If you had have known from the start, you would have had a lot more time to organise. I hate it when people do that too.

How are Lila's extra feeds going? Is she still going 8 hours at night? No such luck with Lily ... wait i have just read your latest post 11HOURS!
I haven't tried Lily on solids yet. Some sayit makes the nights better, some say worse, so I'm going to stick with the 6 month mark, just cause she's on the 97th percentile and is obviously getting all she needs, so I don't want her to grow up too fast, and I also don't want to complicate the great routine we have going at the moment.
Ali - Glad to hear all is going well with you and Leah.
AFM - Lily's 4 month needles went really well. She screamed so hard when they jabbed her that her whole little head went bright red, but as soon as I picked her up, she stopped. She just had one single little tear. Ohhhhhh. I did end up giving her some Panadol later in the day though, just the once, as she was in a little bit of pain then.
We are in a great day time routine now with little or no crys when it's nap time. She's having 4 sleeps a day most days with a total nap time of around 3-4.5 hours. When she has her 4-4.5 hour nap days, she is only waking once or twice at night. But if she has only 3 hours during the day, she usually wakes 3 times at night. So at the moment, I'm working on her day naps. I have stretched her feeds out from 2.5 hours to 3 hours and she is feeding a lot better and then going off to sleep after each one.
I have also starting dream feeding her at 8.30pm just before I go to bed, and last night she only woke at 12 and 5, so that's good (she had 4 hours of naps yesterday).
So I think I'm finally starting to work this out. And everyone on BB tells me that it's not unusual for a 4.5 month old who is just BF only to wake every 3 hours in the night, so if that's the case we're doing well. And that keeps me happy.
Gotta go and wake up Lily now ... off to netball. Have started back 2 days a week and LOVING IT!
Joey I know what you mean about dropping off the face of the earth! It seems like everytime I hop on the computer hoping to post Natalya wakes up from her nap, she seems to have an innate sense about these types of things! School holidays werent as hectic as I expected. I made the descion that barring swimming lessons for DD we were going to stay at home as much as possible and it worked! We were all lovely, relaxed and refreshed by the time school started again.
Natalya is also having around 4 sleeps a day too and goes down for the night between 7.30-8.30. She then "usually" sleeps through till 5 am although lately she starts to grizzle around 2-3am and either DH or I have to get up and rock the cradle a bit or pick her up for a bit of a rock. Am trying not to feed her at that point as I know that she can sleep through so dont want to form a new habit.
Claresounds like Lochie is doing really well with his solids. I havent started Natalya on them yet and most probably will wait till 6 months. So far she seems content enough with her b/f. It's funny how all the MCN are giving different advice, mine said that recommendations have changed to 6 months (which I waited to with the other 2 anyway) and that now because of an increase in obesity they are saying you should start them on a savoury eg potato first before going to rice cereal and fruit as that is sweeter and the child will naturally want that. All too confusing sometimes! I think I will just start her on rice cereal when the time is right.

Jenushka,like you said at least you dont have to worry about a daycare place now. That must be a weight off your mind. Hopefully you will be able to find a happy medium with work/daycare etc.
Lollybaby, my first DD had that sort of hair that used to get reactions. Natalya was born with dark hair but alot, especially on the back has now fallen out. Every morning there is some hair on her sheets and it makes me so sad.
Natalya had her 4 mth immunisations yesterday and did really well. And so did DS - last time he got a bit angry at the nurse telling her off for making his sister cry, it was actually very sweet how defensive he was.
We are encountering a slight problem atm where Natalya is almost refusing to have a bottle whether it be EBM or formula. Normally this wouldnt be an issue but we have had a few social occasions where it isnt appropriate to bring her and we have a quite a few more coming up, so she is being babysat by either my mum or MIL and she just wont take a bottle. Any hints from anyone as to how I can make it more appealing to her?
