We're camping down the prom this week, heading to hobart next week and then we head home. :(
Sas getting a few bits and bobs but not too over the top. Umm a car garage thing. An ikea train set. Some clothes. Couple of books and some clothes. We have to fly it all back so size definitely was a consideration! That combined with living in a third world country, it just doesn't feel right giving them heaps when most around us will get nothing iykwim ?
Ange i wanna know, we had to wait to find out Lu & Sas were girls you can't make me wait again lol

JM - It may help to find out to prepare yourselves. Good idea re the Christmas presents. Quite unisex ideas too! Having had 2 boys I am looking more at sex role toys but am mindful of this as not ideal.
Kell - That is awesome news!! I can understand not having your tree up - you must have your hands pretty full just now.
PRMG - Here is my opinion on spoiling kids again. It makes me sound like a granny but we dont buy much for T. Having said that she does have loads of the boys old stuff as I am a pretty skilled hoarder (just in case I need those old toys LEGO books pram etc one day 16 years later!!). Yeah we have the 1992 model Emmalunga and I bought it new when I had DS2 coz it took a toddler seat on the front. I just find the toys get so expensive as they get older and you set the expectation very early on that is can be wise to scale it down and put things away for another celebration in future. My parents spoiled me as the only child and I dont think it was a good thing. Nowadays that kind of spoiling is the norm.
SP - I hear you on spoiling being the norm!! LOL, it's nuts what kids get. We don't buy anything for DD all year (other than clothes). We get what we can in the toy sales and layby, she gets it at Christmas and then we put it away to give it out throughout the year, so when she does get bored of something, it goes away and something "new" can replace it. We found it worked really well this year. Last Christmas we got her an outdoor climbing cubby thing, but we didn't get it out until August and her other presents have been scattered throughout the year. My SIL buys something for my niece every week and their house is like Toyworld exploded! There are nappy boxes of stuff everywhere, you have to climb over it to sit down!! My house is 14 squares, could you imagine what it'd look like if I did that! :rofl: 16 year old Lego is AWESOME! That will never be something that doesn't get used!
I'm shocking with my girls they have so much it isn't funny.
The toy room is full of toys & at the moment you can't even walk in there as there is so much stuff & that's after the 5 clean outs i've done this year. So i'm going to have to do it again before Christmas as they are getting more toys.
In my defense i'm not the only one who buys them way too many toys lol

Yep, don't even get me started on the clothes. You would think having 2 girls i wouldn't have so many clothes but that's not the case lol
hehe we try not to spoil susie, but in doing so I've realised we've not actually bought her any toys for christmas so I might duck out and get her something lil lol! we've bought her a heap of craft stuff, some books and a trike + helmet. but given we won't be home for christmas, she wont get her trike till after christmas, so might get her something small for under the tree. our family is pretty good with not spoiling too much, I think half her wardrobe though is from my big sister, seems everytime we see her she's found something new and cute she thought Susie should have lol! I look at her toys and compare it to some other kids I know her age and she has what I thought was alot, but is about 1/3 - 1/2 of what the others have lol!
all going well with pregnancy here, pelvis is still in place which is making life a bit easier (still have to watch what I do though!), but I've come down with a cold and its the second one so far this pregnancy! hate not being able to do much about it! I miss Codral!!
JM i just noticed your due June 15th, that's the best day to have a baby. All the best people are born then ;)

Hi Girl! How is everybody?
We are super excited about christmas, we have a pretty big display of christmas lights up and DD loves to go out and help turn them on every night. Christmas present opening is going to be staggered, already got her trike from DF's parents, opened one from my brother's gf on Monday, some on christmas eve and then on christmas day and boxing day. And that's mostly from relatives, i didn't even buy her much! Just some books, a new pool for the backyard, a couple of matchbox cars and some sandwich cutters. Our family are pretty good and will ask what they should buy so she's getting an art easel from my parents, paints and a roll of butcher's paper from my bro and a table and chair set for outside from my sister.
Mrs C - Congrats on your pregnancy, hope everything goes well for you! We love the Wiggles here too. Wiggle Bay has become our staple car music and Swim like a fish is the favourite at the moment.
PRMG - Alexandra is really into nursery rhymes at the moment, especially twinkle, twinkle and baa baa black sheep. I can just imagine our DD's together singing on your DD's new karaoke machine
Kell - Wow a boy! That's fantastic news!
SP - We have one of those 50L plastic containers full of 20+ year old duplo that my mum held onto, it's awesome. Cars, planes, all of the farm animals and fencing, a circus set with all the animals and house furniture, beds/toilets/kitchen benches. I would hate to think how much it would cost to establish such a big collection at today's prices.
JM - I hope you are feeling better and the MS has eased off a bit. How do your girls cope with the plane flights? We are going to Thailand in March but haven't been on a long flight since coming back from Russia last christmas.
Mo - How have you been since your mum's service? :hug: I know from experience how difficult that first christmas after a loss is and have been thinking of you. I hope that you have a wonderful christmas with your family!

MrsC - Glad to hear all is going well with your pregnancy! I hope your cold goes away soon. I hear you on not being able to take anything, it's horrible isn't it, knowing that it'll just go in a few days if you can take something. Big hugs.
FW - I can so see that! Two kids, the same age singing away to the songs. So so cute. DD is singing so much, even picking up bits from the radio. I have it going pretty much all day every day - she isn't impressed with the kids CD we have, but she'll sing along to Rhiannon or Keisha on the radio! Right now she's sitting her bopping away to the Veronicas! Sounds like you're all set for Christmas!

I'm working on my weight and fitness, have joined the Summer Health Challenge on here and am going okay. I'd like to lose around 7kgs I think, will see how I feel when I get to that point. I'm walking and doing zumba at home, I've lost 2.5kg and have shrunk 4cms around my "problem" areas! Glad to see some sunny weather so I can actually get out and walk. DD thinks it's hilarious when I put on Zumba, she laughs at me!!!!! It inspires me to make sure DH isn't at home when I do it, no doubt he'll laugh at my precise coordination too :ROFL:
Ella is getting a cubby, blackboard and a bee scuttlebug and little things for her stocking she asks everyday to open them i cant wait for xmas morning!
PRMG - good on you for the fitness regime i sooooooooo need to get weight off after this baby!
Yep nursery rhymes are big here too twinkle twinkle and incy wincy are huge at the moment
the rest of the day she asks to watch dora OMG how much more can i watch of that show LOL i have to limit it to on ce every couple of days or ill go insane :shakehead:
we cant wait for our little guy it still seems so far away though is going quickly if that makes sense :D

AFU the girls did great with presents, they both got so many toys & clothes.
They got a heap of DVD's Maddi has made us watch Toy story & Beauty and the beast countless times lol & they both got a few leap frog toys, Kodi loves her Scout Dog, It goes everyone with her & she loves how it says her name.
Maddi loves her Dorothy dinosaur toy & they got this cool Cow milkshake maker & more clothes of course.
They toy room is full of toys again, i'm contemplating doing another clean out of toys.
Feeling pretty sad lately, It's really start to hit home that i'll never see my Mum again :( It's so hard...

We had a nice quiet christmas with my family and with some family friends, lots of presents and lots of food.
PRMG - Good on you for getting trim and fit! I'm hopping back on the bandwagon too, want to shift these last 5kg in the next couple of months. I love walking but it is so hot here.
Mo - That does sound like a lot of toys :) More :hug: from me Mo, grieving and loss sucks big time. Even though it can sometimes be really upsetting, I have found it therapeutic to have a special notebook to write memories and random thoughts in about the person. There are so many little things that you forget or just don't think about over the years and this has helped me to preserve some special memories. It would be a lovely keepsake for your girls when they get older as well.
To all the pregnant ladies, wow your tickers seem to be going really fast!
We have weaned, DD hasn't had a breastfeed since Tuesday. It was a forced thing because I was sick and had to take some medication but she doesn't seem to miss it and hasn't asked for boobie the last few days so I guess this is the end. It's kinda exciting to think that I have my boobies to myself again, hopefully they'll shrink a bit so I can buy some nice new bras :D

The flooding situation is devastating. I think that everyone knows someone who has been affected, we have so many friends in Brisbane who have evacuated and the house that we used to live in is most definitely under water. I have banned myself from the tv news today but it's still all over facebook, bb and everywhere on the internet.
P.S. Hope that you and Immy are doing ok Jellyfish! Try not to stress too much!

how was everyone's christmas and NY?
we had some outlaws, ahem inlaws visiting from Sweden. It was really nice to spend some quality time with the grandparents. We had 3 days of aussie-swedish xmas traditions and were pretty beat. our nearly-21 m.o. son had a ball but still doesn't really get the present thing. Which is ironic, as he got more presents than I've ever seen someone get (two sets of grandparents, uncles and parents).

we decided to leave it a surprise. We found out last time, as we were unbearably curious but this time the pregnancy has flown under the radar (typical second pregnancy!), so we are looking forward to a surprise. I _think_ it may be a boy but don't know either way.
your kids are quite close together - any tips on how to cope with sibling rivalry?
i think archie will be a great bigger brother (he shows more interest in my tummy than anyone!) but am thinking of ways to keep him feeling included and very loved.

Thanks everyone who was thinking of me, we are doing okay and I think the worst is over now so now we just wait as the waters start to recede. The back way to my parents has reopened so I might try to head out there later today. We are a bit stir crazy but safe, dry and thankful.
Tanya there is just under 18 months between my 2.
Best advice for when they are older, make sure they have similar items in different colours.
They amount of fights i've had to deal with because they got different items & each child wanted what the other had is ridiculous.
I've learnt to buy them the same item or something very similar just in different colours because heaven forbid the girls have the same colour lol
For when they are younger just make sure Archie is involved, even it's getting baby their favorite toy etc..
Maddi use to lay blankets down & get Kodi her toys, she loved doing that. Both girls have been very close & they still are.
They just fight all the time now lol

just wanted to share - we survived our first major toddler tantrum today (barely)....
we were leaving a shopping centre, late for a first birthday party, and we passed a carousel with some kids on it. when i saw it, i thought "uh-oh", but kept going in the rush to the car.
Our son's language isn't very developed, the one word he uses for everything at the mo is "more".... so it was "more, more, more"....when he realised we weren't stopping, then came the tears...
...still we persisted and got him down to the carpark, despite the screams. it ended up with us trying to drive out of the carpark (with him on DH's lap as we couldn't restrain him in the carseat between the two of us!!!), and turning around and going back to the carousel after 5 mins of soul-destroying inconsolable shrieking.

so we did the absolute wrong thing in backing down... but it felt right at the time. i'm sure we'll pay for it soon enough!!

Tanya - I know there is a book called Toddler Taming, can't remember who it's by, but it's been around for a long time. Might be worth a look, maybe the library might have some different ones too. I reckon whatever you go with as far as tantrums, if it feels the right thing to do, that's all you can do :hug:
Not much going on here, other than MIL being an evil person, but hey, that's nothing new!! DD is really getting strong in sentences now and repeating words in absolute context. The other night she asked for a crusket, and I told her we were having dinner soon, so she replied with "No problems" :ROFL:. When I went to the ob yesterday, he looked at her and said "Hey, she's cute. Wow, she turned out nice!" :LOL: Love it! Hope everyone is well.

Toddler tactics is good. Also I've heard raising boys is must read for mums of boys. The science of parenting, now called 'what every parent needs to know' is also excellent. Has lots on brain development and tantrums.

As for talking K is doing ok she counts to 6 and does animal noises etc but I think Maddi was more advanced. Then again K is more of a thinker she loves puzzles and putting things together.
S is sooo cute. Can't wait to see how big she is & L of course.

Only 1 week left of the 2nd trimister here - i cant believe it tommorow less than a 100 days :redface:

We are having huge sleep issues with Ella - anyway she sleeps with us for the moment she went from a great sleeper to terrible in the last two weeks and wont sleep in a cot or her bed. We have no idea what to do with her. any advice?
Can't beleive Kodi will 2 in 2 months(tomorrow)
Where have the last 2yrs gone?
Kell it's phase it will pass, Maddi still goes through phases like that but over all she is a great sleeper now.
Kodi on the other hand is determined to make sure i never have a fulls nights sleep ever again.
I'm off to hossy on Sat for another iron infusion, hopefully i pick up after it. i could use some more energy.

AFM : life has been busy, doing god-knows-what i don't know!!
yesterday i took my son to the allergist for a penicillin challenge test (last september he came out in hives after finishing a course of penicillin - we were trying to work out whether it was the antibiotics or a reaction to the infection)
then i went into uni, borrowed some books on creating a passionate marriage, recommended by one of the eds on this site. sadly, it will be another one of the books delegated to hubby to read until i finish exams on feb 18.
@everyone: speaking of uni - i am still enrolled in semester 1 next year.... i have until march 31 to un-enrol. can i have your thoughts ladies re: being enrolled in a uni subject when i will be giving birth in week 5 of semester????? i would be studying online by distance, so i could listen to the lectures/do the readings whenever it suited me. i figure that i'll just wait and see how it goes (maybe post up a general thread with my question)... any prior experience girls?
and THEN last night i went to a friend's hens night party. i was already exhausted when i got there (don't you love that feeling) but felt quite liberated at being out. no jokes, our waiter looked like fabio - and this was just a local pub. poor guy, this gaggle of girls kept finding excuses to bring him to our table!
so i got home by 11.30pm (very tame!!) but still feel absolutely WRECKED today. no doubt 'cos my son woke up several times, and i think the past few weeks of uni assignments/reading is catching up with me.
today we are just taking it easy (yay!), with a bit more uni reading whilst my son sleeps.
