Beata - hamish turns his head side to side during sleep so we don't have to worry bout doing that.
Morning girls,
Hope some of us got some decent sleep last night.
Beata- Adrian moves his head from side to side while he sleeps so not an issue, but for your boy, try lying him on alternate sides each sleep and that should even his neck muscles out. Adrian has such a strong neck and he lifts his head and looks around all the time, its a pain when feeding though because he tries to pull away sometimes and he is so strong i feel like im going to break his little neck to get him back on.
As for all the other babies, im not an expert as ive only been doing this for 2 weeks LOL, but i found that the thing that made it easier was to run through the top 5 whenever Adrian cried.
Hungry?
Nappy?
Pain? (wind/nappy rash)
Too hot?
Too cold?
Once all those bases were covered, if he was still crying it was normally a case of wrapping him nice and tight, giving him some time on mine or DH's chest until he fell asleep and carefully transferring him to his cot. Eliminating those five possibilities made me feel like i was doing something active and not just hopelessly watching him cry.
I also found in the early days when his crying got me on edge to remind myself that it was just that, crying. He couldnt hurt himself by crying, the worst that would happen is he could exhaust himself and fall asleep, so if i was getting really stressed and emotional, i would leave him somewhere safe, like his cot, then go and have a cold drink or something and relax, then when i came back, if i was relaxed and not tense, he would relax too and we could figure out what he wanted.
I dont want to sound like a know-it-all since im no expert, but it helps me and DH and it might help some of you too.
AFM I had a poo fountain experience last night!! :o FInished feeding Adrian and heard the unmistakable noise of a full nappy and so went to change him. Had the old nappy off and was reaching for the new one when he decided he wasn't quite done and let loose a fountain of poo!!! Went all over the change table and a little on the carpet but thankfully it missed me!!! Now that was an experience!! Oh and then he did another little wee!! I swear he saves it up and waits till nappy time LOL:lol:
Anyways, hope all the settling/feeding/burping/spewing/sleeping issues get sorted out for you all and you have some nice calm cuddles.
Big hugs to everyone:hug:
Good evening ladies,
Sorry no personals. We've had a loooong day. Aidan has been incredibly unsettled and found his proper baby cry which he has made good use of most of the day. Only just got him to his first deep sleep of the day.
Re: Wee
Aidan tries to constantly pee on me, but never on Daddy. But he managed to pee in his own face the other day. I had a washer on his bits while I got the nappy (so all of two seconds) and he kicked it off and peed all over his face and toys above him on his change table. Boy was he shocked.
Re: Tongue tied
Both me and my DS1 are tongue tied and we never had any trouble feeding.
Hope all the bubs are being nice to their mummies. My brain is like mush right now, so I apologise for no personals.
Hi ladies,
OMG, your posts are making me giggle especially about the poo explosions (mum had to deal with one when I went out for an hour today to the shops, poor mum!!!) and peeing on the face thing! He did it the other day and was really shocked and surprised where it came from, your willy you silly!! hahaha.
teresa, thanks hun. I'm hoping when he's a few weeks old, he'll be turning his head from side to side. ATM he really favours the right!
b, thanks hun, I keep reminding myself it will get better once he hits the 8 week mark!! The paeditrician told me yesterday to encourage him to sleep on the left side of his head more and to generally 'look' to his left side as he really favours the right ATM. Aparently it's good to have the balance right.
jellymaker, good points hun!! I generally do the same, check the obvious and then it's mostly wind that gets him really irrtated. I went to the chemist today and the lady there told me to put him on an 'original' formula rather thatn the 'gold' variety as they are too heavy for newborns. So I got the S-26 original (I was on the kericare gold newborn). She also told me to give him tiny amounts of boiled water cooled to room temperature, apparently it's good for constipation/wind.
inSom, big hugs, we've all been there, hey?
Hello to everyone else out there!
I've bought a vibrating boucer today, he was in it for about 20 minutes watching the footy with daddy and then he started to whinge again so we put him in his bassinette and so far so good. He is not due for another feed until 11.30, but I'll give him another feed at 11 and hopefully he'll sleep longer than the 3 hours! I also bought this musical thingie that displays these shapes on the ceiling, so far he likes that. Every bit helps!!!!
B xxx
Not really b, I try to but today I went to the shops and by the time I came back he was ready for a feed, and then DF's kids came over for tea. When I don't do any trips to the shops or have any visitors, I try to lie down for even half an hour. Now that I have DF for 4 days over Easter, I plan to get him to help out a lot more so I can at least catch up on SOME sleep! We'll see ;) I really can't imagine having a toddler as well as a newborn... I take my hat off to you hun!!!
Insom - Tiah was very unsettled today as well :( It took me all day to realise that my boobs were not sore because she was refusing to feed properly - she was refusing because my ducts seem to be blocked and thus the soreness! Spent a good hour soaking the boobies in hot water and expressing..... hopefully that should make her settle!
I felt so bad, poor little thing had been sucking away - and not getting much :( She had a huge feed just before and is going onto her 5th hour of sleep now!
seems the full moon is making babies unsettled :(
Harrison has also had a very unsettled last couple of nights...2 poo explosions last night and another tonight, poor little man has so much wind, doesn't help that he suckles for comfort. He's just gone to sleep now so I'm off to try and sleep a bit myself, will come back for personals when I have half a brain to read things.
My Mum and sister get here tomorrow  thank god!
He's got terrible wind :( poor fella, but having said that its somewhat of a relief to know whats wrong with him when he just won't settle and he's fed, changed etc. We bought some infacol and it seemed to work fairly well last night but we only gave him 0.2ml as the box says its for 1 month onwards?? but midwife says its ok (I'm still scared lol)
He seems to be putting on weight like a champ even though he's still so long! makes his limbs looks skinny, but by the looks of things he's built like his Dad tall and skinny. We took him out today shopping and he was such a good boy, mostly slept and looked super cute while doing so in his little red overalls (that are 000 and too big!)
Definitely enjoying having my Mum and sister here, they'll be here until Monday, so its a really short visit unfortunately but it was still so good to have them here.
RE head lifting, Harri raises his head and looks around a lot, he loves tummy time (except if his wind is really bad). Today he was kicking his legs around so much he was comando crawling, clever fella! He's very strong which is great.
Hope you're all well and all the bubbas are healthy and happy
Hi all!
Tiah is doing great :) I had a bit of a crisis with breastfeeding a couple of nights ago - my nipple was so painfull I had to hold my hand over my mouth while she fed, because I was screaming from the pain :(
I seriously considered giving up, but I am lucky DP is very supportive of why I wanted to breastfeed and he helped me figure out what I could do to help the pain. I ended up having boiling hot baths, expressing like crazy and then eventually unblocked the problem areas and now everything has settled again. It is crazy how when faced with not being able to do it anymore I panicked! I love when she is on my big huge boobie and cooing at me :)
I am also letting her fall asleep on the boob now, I know some poeple dont agree with that? But omg if I dont let her, she will lay awake staring at me for hours and then start ramping up that she is hungry again.... I much prefer that she comforts herself on the boob and actually gets some sleep! Oh and read on the forums somewhere that babies might settle more if you put something that smells like mum in the crib.. so she is sleeping happily right now with one of my tops as a blanket :D
Happy Easter Ladies! I cant wait for Tiah to wake up so I can dress her in her easter outfit and take photos of her with her easter eggs (I am sure if that is more because I picked eggs I like..... so then I can eat them )
Well done Meercat for pushing through, my DP is the same being very supportive and it makes it all worth it. I let Harrison fall asleep on the boob also, then all I have to do is pop him up on my chest and get rid of his wind and its just a matter of putting him in his basinette and he sleeps for a good 5-6 hours.
Happy Easter everyone, hope you're all having a great day
Happy Easter everyone!
I'm glad everyone is going well. I had a bit of a shock today.....after expressing for a week or so (and not every day either , but sometimes 3 times a day) I put my hungry man on the boob this morning and he stayed on it for 15 minutes and then spewed out the nipple in disgust....why you might ask??????? I have no milk!!!!!! Funny that, last night I expressed for the third time late at night ( a good 2 hours in between expressing) and I only got 20 ml per boob. The most I ever expressed was 100 ml between two boobies, and that was only 3 or 4 days ago.....my appetite still hasn't come back, maybe that's why the milk has dried up? Will it come back??????? I don't want my milk to go away! Addmittedly, I feed Cam formula mostly, but try to give him a bottle of EBM per day...:shakehead:
Hi ladies!
Once again I haven't been on in a few days and have way too much to catch up on!
Happy Easter to everyone first of all!
Hope those of you having baby troubles are sorting them out. Indy grizzled for an hour last night, did a massive poo, had another feed then went back to sleep  Dad's been down this weekend, unfortunately with his wife, sigh... I think Dad got to cuddle Indy for two minutes, then she grabbed him and pretty much didn't give him back til they left hours later! My cousin has a 9-month old and said she does exactly the same with their baby, always has to be the centre of attention cuddling the baby. Thank God Dad's usually here by himself when he's in Melbourne for work, he might actually get a decent cuddle next time. Also referred to her as grandma at one point, not going to happen sorry Dad. She ain't Indy's grandma!
Anyway, going to attempt a nap while Indy's having daddy cuddles.
Hope you're all well!
beata - there is a couple of things u can do to get your supply up. u can go to your gp and get either motilium or maxalon and take that, go to the chemist and get fenugreek or blessed thistle, or make some lactation cookies. there is a recipe on here under breastfeeding. the cookies are really fattening but sooooooooooooooo yummy!!! i made a batch of them and froze the rest of the mixture. i ended up with four batches and only half way thru!! it certainly has increased my supply (plus my waistline a bit too lol)
Hi!
Wow - I can see I'm really going to struggle to keep up with this thread! LOL!!!
We're going really well here - bfing is going well and my milk has well and truly come in so bubs is feeding about 3-4 hourly except overnight when it's more like 2 1/2 hourly!! Cheeky thing!!
He's such a gorgeous little boy and hasn't been too much trouble at all just yet!
Dh helped me last night by settling back to sleep after each feed so I actually got 8 hours of broken sleep - the first time since he arrived so hopefully I have enough energy to do it all myself tonight. He slept the whole night aside from feeds in his bassinette which was also a first so that was great. He's quite good at bringing up his wind although some feeds take longer to settle after than others...he tends to fall asleep upright on my chest - must be super comforting for him!
It's going to be pretty full on with the 4 boys at home when dh goes back to work though - I'm going to have to be super organised to get us out of the house for kinder and the kids activities!! Even sometimes making everyone lunch when bubs is unsettled can be tricky!! I've got him at home for another week though so hopefully I'll be all ready! LOL!
Meercat - Yeah on the feeding!! Sounds like your doing really well! Definitely do what you need to do - no such thing as bad habits when babies are so little!!
MIssawah - Wow on the super big sleeps!! I'm hoping Jayden will start some of those soon! LOL! Longest he's gone is about 4 hours so far and that's through the day not at night! hehe. I know he'll get there eventually though!!
B - Happy Easter!! I'm trying to avoid too much choccy in case it upsets Jayden!! I figured white chocolate should be ok though...lol!
Hi to everyone else!!
Chat later!
Hi mummies :)
Haven't posted for a while, but been reading all your posts. I just haven't really felt up to it until I felt better in myself and the decision I have made. I'm still getting there, but feeling much better.
I stopped breastfeeding on day 14. I feel like I chickened out, gave in, made a selfish decision for myself. I tried to persevere through the pain - I knew I had to correct the attachment, I watched videos and read breastfeeding pamphlets, I read through the breastfeeding support section on here, I rang the hospital in tears late at night, then cried to the ABA the next day and also called a LC. I had a bout of mastitis that I pushed through. Everyone says "it hurts now but it will get better, just keep going". But I couldn't see how anyone could push through THAT! My poor nipples were cracked, scabby and bleeding, I would dread my boy waking for a feed so badly, and it feels horrible to admit but I think the bond between us was starting to deteriorate because of the pain I was in. I could very easily have gone into depression I believe. The last straw was when a chunk of nipple came away inside the nipple shield when I was trying to feed Blake.. My wonderful DH held my hand the entire time, rubbed my back and supported my choice to go to the chemist and buy a tin of formula. Since then he has been happily feeding on formula, and I feel my sanity and confidence have definitiely returned.
I just had to get this out, so thanks for listening. Hopefully I'll find more time soon to contribute more!
Big hugs ReeRee! I think you have done the right thing all being considered and to be honest what I think doesn't even matter when it comes to you and your bubba...oh and no, most people don't go through all that pain!!! You've done so well to try and persevere through it all but that all sounds sooooo painful you poor bugger....I hope you can move forward now knowing you tried your best!! xo
ree ree - i agree with krisvee and b. well done for giving it a go. it is a hard decision but u have to do what is right for u and blake. xx
Morning ladies,
Hope we are all doing well and settling into some routines.
Ree ree- I also had some issues in the first 2 weeks with BF and while it never got as bad as what you experienced, i did think about giving up and going to formula. I cant believe you continued as long as you did as i would have stopped way earlier! Don't let anyone tell you it was the wrong decision as BF might be beneficial to baby but a sane, happy, painfree mummy is much more important! And you can console yourself with knowledge that Blake got all the good antibodies in the early days so still got the benefit of BM but now has a much happier mummy that he can get cuddles with :)
Beata- as for your milk dilemma, are you drinking heaps of water constantly? I found that my milk runs out really quick and i get massive headaches if i don't always have a bottle of water with me. Also, I've found that as long as my feeds/expresses are fairly consistent from day to day that my milk supply stays consistent too. Perhaps try and even it out and express 1-2 every day, rather than not at all somedays and heaps on other days. HTH :)
AFM we're all doing well on the Spencer front. Adrian has now taken to cluster feeding in the mornings (as well as at night) from about 8-10ish and then sleeping till about 2-3 in the afternoon, another normal feed and then sleep till about 6-7 and then the cluster feeds start again. Its not too bad but means that i now have cold breakfasts and dinners because he always cracks it when food is ready! Still sleeping most of the night with usually one feed so thats good.
DH goes back to work tomorrow :( so today is his "do whatever you want" day. Thankfully his wants are relaxing watching TV and helping with Adrian so not much has changed:) Will miss him heaps when he goes back and i know he will miss Adrian like crazy, also, things are changing at his work so he is trepidatious about returning and it talking changing jobs! :o Not a great thing to hear with a 3 week old baby!
Anyways, fingers crossed no dramas ensue. Hope we all do well and will talk soon.
Big hugs to all the mummies!
