Missawah- I hope your little man feels better soon. Can i ask, did you give him the snip for medical/health reasons or religious? Just curious because a friend of mine was thinking of doing it to her little boy and isnt too sure.

b- glad Ewan is on the mend and i dont envy your situation having a stroppy toddler as well but like you said she is probably just trying to get used to not being #1 anymore. Lots of cuddles will hopefully see her through. I hope things get back to normal soon. Oh and Adrian can sleep through any noise, even DH playing loud shoot em up games on the playstation, so the more noise the better i say :)

Meercat- glad you are feeling better, my DH loved your pub comment!

Mia- glad it turned out not to be anything serious with your little man. I know i breathed a sigh of relief on tuesday when the paed gave Adrian the all clear. He is now 5 kgs and 60cms long long, he is my big boy :)

Con- im really enjoying picking outfits for Adrian when we go out. Its fun to dress him up and make him look cute but hes growing out of them all so fast he wont get a chance to wear all the really cute summer boardies and hawiian shirts my family bought for him :( Oh well, maybe baby number two can wear them LOL :)

AFM- went out on a date nite on friday nite with DH and my mum and dad baby sat for us. We went out for tea and went to see Iron Man 2. Got quite emotional when i had to leave Adrian and spent the last half hour of the movie crawling out of my skin to get back to my little boy and praying that he was being a good boy for his grandparents. It was the longest and furthest i had been away from him since he was born. Was very happy to have him safe back in my arms. It was nice to get away with DH for the nite tho, just the two of us like old times.
Also, got the all clear from the OB on friday so we DTD last nite!!!!! Was a little it tender but otherwise it was fine, no O unfortunately :( I think i was too tense to let it happen but plenty of time to get things back into the natural swing now that we've done it again. It was very reminiscent of losing my virginity actually LOL, OH and i totally should have worn a bra as my boobs started to leak halfway thru!!! Very embarassing:redface:.

Anyways, i wish all ladies luck with their own bedroom sports and hope bubs stay asleep long enough for you all.:)

b - i stopped bf 2 weeks ago now and STILL waiting for af to come back. i am sooo bloated that DH asked me if i was pg again the other day. had to poas to show him i'm not lol. i am assuming it will arrive soon tho.

b- i never used to menstruate anyway, hence the whole IVF stuff so not really relevant to me, but DH and i arnt using birth control so if things decide to start working again, then yay! No more IVF stuff to have baby number 2! But its more likely we'll end up using our baby popsicles from the freezer! LOL

sorry ladie gonna have a vent here but yesterday i decided that i didnt want to walk Hamish to sleep anymore and i wanted to start a routine with him. i felt that by putting him in his cot in his room full time that i could achieve this without worrying about him crying in his bassinette in our room and waking DH up when he has to work the next morning. so i googled sleeping hints and tips and found a routine that i thought was good. it said to cuddle baby for a bit when u see that he is tired. then place him in his cot, wrap him up and cover him, and walk out of the room. let him cry for 1-3 mins depending on how u feel bout his crying and what his crying is like, go back in and comfort him without picking him up then leave when he settles, may need to repeat it a couple of times but only pick him up when he becomes very upset. so i have been doing this and at most, its taken him 15mins to settle (if that). i felt ready for him to go in his cot and come out of our room. anyway i put up on fb that he slept last night in his cot in his room and a friend has come back and asked why he wasnt in his room from day one. well i have had issues with this friend anyway as when i first found out i was pg, i posted on fb that i didnt know what to buy and who had any tips for me. this friend emailed me and asked what did i have in the way of items and when i said i had a bassinette, he asked what for. we live in a 4 bedroom house which is quite long. anyway Hamish's room is down by the family room and even though we had a monitor, we wanted him in with us for awhile. he said they have a long house too but thats what monitors are for.
am i wrong for feeling angry about his comments and that i feel he is judging me for having Hamish in our room?
so sorry for the vent but i am just so annoyed by it all

Teresa - I would be annoyed if someone said that to me too. It's not just the issue of having a big house, the Sids foundation actually recommend the baby to sleep in your room for the first 6 - 12 months. I am thinking of putting Angus in his room soon (it's only next door though) because I think I will get a much better sleep. At the moment I sleep so lightly because I am even listening out for his breathing and wake up with every little noise. DH bought him into our bed the other night because he was very unsettled but I didn't sleep at all until I put him back in his bassinette (this is probably because DH almost rolled on top of him the first night he bought him into our bed!)

Anyway, try not to worry about what he says because everyone does things differently and it's nobody's place to judge some one else - he just needs to worry about his own babies! I suppose when you put things out there, there are always going to be people who agree and disagree. Unfortunately some people just can't keep their opinions to themselves.

AFM - I am still doing the walking around thing with Angus and trying to work out how to read his cues better. I know some people say you should put the baby down before it is asleep so it can self settle, but if I put Angus down before he is asleep he gets really cranky and works himself up. I guess I'm not ready to let him cry for an amount of time yet. The other day I put him down and went to have a shower - just as i lathered all the shampoo in my hair he started crying and I had to spend the next hour trying to get him back to sleep! Crazy I know and I am probably making things harder for myself in the long run, but eventually I'll get us into a rountine!

B - I haven't stopped bleeding from the birth yet, so I hope I don't start menstruating any time soon!

Jellymaker - that's great that you and DH had a date night. I was the same when we left Angus with my Mum to go out for dinner - exept that was when he was only 1 week old. Mum is dying to have him overnight though - but I don't think that will be for a while! Congratulations on DTD! :D

We took Angus to my Mum's house last night for dinner and also because a family friend was there and she wanted to meet him. Only problem was I fed him just before we went and he slept in the car, but woke up soon after we got there and then wouldn't go back to sleep. I think he gets really stimulated in new environments, so hopefully the more we got out, the better he will get. We are going to dinner tonight and I have expressed some milk into a bottle for him, so hopefully he sleeps a bit so that we can enjoy a hot meal!

Teresa - Stuff him! I have Tiah next to me in a bassinette and if she is very unsettled or I am tired I even have her in the bed with me! (We have a massive bed, and if she is in with me she has this little wedge thing that stops her from wriggling and me from rolling onto her) I am at the point now that if someone gives me their opinion I tell them "She is my baby I will do what I want" I am over being polite!

I do put Tiah down when she is only sleepy and sometimes she does go to sleep, but if she doesnt I go back to cuddling and walking. I think people tend to forget how different every single adult they know is and how everyone needs different things to settle into a good sleep (Cold side of the pilliow, fan on, TV on ect) Why should a baby be any different? Why should what worked for a friends child ... work on my child? Our babies all have their own beautiful personalites and thats what is so awesome about them!

(Ok I am very tired and I have been getting the same hassels about how I do things with Tiah.... haha)

Teresa- one word- Douche! dont worry about that guy, just do what works for you. Adrian sleeps in a basinette in the living room with us during the day, or in his bouncy chair, or sometimes naps in bed with me and sleeps in his cot at night, or if he is fast asleep in the basinette we will leave him there when we go to bed and put him in the cot later. In short, it doesnt matter where your baby sleeps as long as he is Sleeping!!!!! That means you can get some more rest too.

For anyones info, i realised that if i put Adrian down in his cot after his night feed and he was sleepy but not asleep he stares at the wall. He used to get grumpy and start crying when i turned the lamp off because he couldnt see the wall. so i just leave it on now and he stares happily until he falls asleep. That realisation saves me getting out of bed a dozen times to settle him so maybe see if your bubs like looking at stuff until they fall asleep?

M2bxx- RE: having a shower. We don't use a dummy with Adrian because wheneva he grumps i just feed him but i have found that a dummy is bliss when i have to have a shower or long car trips. I wrap him up on my bed where i can see him from my ensuite and give him a dummy. Keeps him happy long enough for me to wash my hair and shave my legs which i know makes us all feel much more human LOL :) He isnt really attached to the dummy yet so hopefully there will be no weaning issues later on. Meanwhile, at least i dont smell like spitup. LOL

AFM- ****y at DH today. He has one job which is solely his and that is mowing the yard. He kept promising all this long wekend that he would do the yard and today at about 3:00 said flat out 'I just don't want to do it' and proceeded to play 3 hours of grand theft auto........Um, i dont want to get out of bed 4 times a nite to feed our son but it has to be done, so i just suck it up and do it! The ONE job he has to do and he does it every three weeks (if that!) meanwhile i did three loads of washing and all the folding, AND fed Adrian all day! Grrrr I just want to punch him sometimes!!!!

Sorry for the vent, hope your DH's are better behaved!

dtd- we have done it a few times...i find it hard to get in the right mood for it though, i think i am just to tired to be turned on at the moment!

afm- Grace has slept from 9.30pm to 4am for the past 5 nights.....wooohoooo! It would be great if she kept it up...my body has appreciated the sleep! She is now 3.8 kg, my cousin had her baby last week that weighed more than that at birth! lol!

b, I still haven't had my AF. I stopped bleeding soon after my c/s (about a week later the red/pink bleeding stopped, and then there were a few days of brown spotting). I had this weird pain in my left ovary a couple of times last week (quite painful actually), so I'm thinking I ovulated then?????? If so, I'll have my AF around 14-15 days later. Will have to keep track of this. Hope Ewan is feeling heaps better now!

Jelly, we're done the 'deed' a few times now and I have to say it's quite enjoyable! Sorry TMI! I feel so guilty as we have Cam in the room and I have to be really quiet....We've now left Cam with Grandma a few times but mosty for shopping, we haven't gone out for too long, ie to dinner/movies. Maybe soon! Sorry to hear your DH is a naughtly boy. He sounds just like my dad! Mowing the lawn is the only thing mum asks him to do and half the time she ends up doing it herself!

Teresa, stuff the stupid guy!! Cam sleeps with us in his bassinette, and will for the next few months at least. For some reason he hates being in our bed!! Sometimes I feel like some cuddles in bed, but the minute I take him in, he cries....I just don't feel comfortable having him in his own roon at night. We have the baby monitor but haven't used it yet!

Mum2BXX, Cam also is hard to settle after we come back from wherever we went to (which is not often anyway) as he also gets over stimulated and then doesn't sleep enough during the day. The he is a real little horror!!

Meercat, I also do the walking around thing to get my wee man sleepy and then put him down, except half the time he wakes up the minute I put him down!! Cheeky little monkey.

AFM, Cam was at his worst yesterday. After a fabulous Friday and half of the Saturday, where I thought he was becoming a 'dream baby' and was starting to really settle, he was quite the little monster yesterday. He slept next to nothing yesterday, and cried for good 4 hours which is really unusual for him. DF and I were tearing our hair out!! He finally dropped off at 11.30 pm, but then woke me up at 2.30, and then he slept until almost 9 am!!!! He must have been catching up on his lost sleep. Today has been a day of new beginnings. I put the little bugger in his cot for the first time and he has slept like an angel all day. Can't work out if he likes the cot or if he is still catching up on the lost sleep from yesterday. Also, I've changed his formula to Novolac Colic, as it's more gentler on their tummies and it has reduced lactose formulation. See how this one goes!!!

Sorry I've only had time to reply to only a few of you lovelies, still pretty tired from yesterday and waiting on wee man to wake up for his feed. Must sterilise his bottles....

Hi All

Don't get much time to get on here, currently trying to BF and type. Seems to constantly feeding the last 2 days must be growing.

DS seems to spend half the night (from 2am) in bed with me BF and I fall asleep. Try to put back in bassinet which is beside me, but is getting to big for it so will need to move to cot. During the day trying him out in cot but just screams, when Iget him to sleep and put him in only last a few minutes.

Yet to DTD as I'm still spotting.

Jelly understand your frustration with DH had my mum take DD for a couple of nights for a break DH always complains cannot get anything done because looking after DD, all he did is sit on the lounge all day. So hope I don't here any more complaining.


Will try to get on here regularly, someone needs a nappy change again.

Tiah had a blood test today :(

They made her lay on a huge table, and drew blood from her arm while she screamed

My Mum came with me and held Tiah while I talked to her, Lucky she came because I would have been a mess otherwise.

The nurse doing it was great... really matter of fact and quick. The nurse helping her? She was saying "Oh her hand is going white!" "Oh I cant hold her down she will cry!" "Oh I feel so mean!"

WTF - she is supposed to be reassuring us that it is NOT mean

She also read she was getting her thyroid checked (For her buggy eyes) and said "Oh she has such lovely wide eyes" then looked all confused when the other nurse growled at her and said "Yes that is why the Dr is checking her thyroid" DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - way to make the babies mum even more scared idiot. :wall:

(I dont think there is any problem, Tiah seems to just get very excited and open her eyes so wide. Dr just wanted to make sure it isnt something else)

afm, af has made her appearance. feeling a bit sore at the moment. will be interesting to see if i get the pain i used to get before i fell pg or if it has dulled a bit now. i heard that it does but will see.
a friend of mine who keeps having recurrent miscarriages is off to have a laprascopy and hysteroscopy today FINALLY after me telling her for months she needed one and that the ultrasounds her FS kept sending her for will show up jack s%@#. Fingers crossed that its all ok and the next time she falls pg it sticks. i have been having a few issues with her since i fell pg and then had Hamish. there has been a little jealousy there and i dont blame her. i am sure if the situation was reversed it would be the same with me. she was so excited coz he was born on her birthday but then sad coz suddenly i wasnt just pg, he was here and it made it all real that we had a baby and she didnt. she has been a bit standoffish too so i am hoping that goes away soon. i feel so sorry for her and her husband.
anyway, Hamish is currently asleep. its taking a bit for him to get used to this new routine. i had to give him panadol the other night coz he was beside himself crying and so overtired. i changed his nappy, fed him and burped him but that didnt make a difference so i thought i would try the panadol and within 25mins he was fast asleep. last night he slept from 730pm till 230am! he might have slept longer if i had just given him his dummy but instead i gave him a bottle and he drank the whole lot. then he proceeded to have only small amounts for the next 2 feeds. oh well. i am finding that i am going thru a tin of formula every 6 days tho!!
anyway better go and do the dishes. i am on a get fit and lose weight campaign. just need the motivation to start it at the moment. i have a treadmill and stacks of DVD's so will see how i go.

Meercat- sorry to hear tiah had to have tests. I hate it when they get poked and proded by the doctors, they always seem so rough. But id rather that then have them miss something. Hopefully tiah is fine and she has big eyes so that she can see the world:)

Teresa- sorry to hear bout AF, i dont think mine will come back at all. That has its benefits and setbacks but what can ya do? Oh well. Tell your friend I had a lap and a hyst and they were both very simple and fairly painless procedures and hopefully they will find the problem and be able to solve it.

AFM- Adrian seems to be alternating between great days with lots of smiles and playtime, to feral days where he just screams and wont take his full feeds. People keep saying its his 6 week growth spurt but he is now 7 weeks 3 days, any idea when this fussiness ends? Please say it is just a phase......
I am so jealous of all the mums whos babies are sleeping 7-8 hours stretches. Adrian is still up at least every 3 hours, if not less and i keep falling asleep while feeding him. Thankfully i always have a pretty good hold on him so theres no risk of me dropping him but im just so tired at night.

Anyway, have to go put dinner on, hugs to all.

Happy Birthday b and Insom for yesterday!! Hope you girls had a lovely day and got spoiled! Love the month of May for birthdays, mine is on Mother's Day would you believe!!!!!

Charly's mum, Cam is also getting too big for his bassinette. I've bought him a bigger cradle a couple of days ago and he loves to be swung to sleep in it! It's so much bigger too :p

Meercat, poor 'lil Tiah! I dread taking Cam for his vaccination neeldles soon, I know he'll hate it and cry! Got the panadol on stand by ;)

Teresa, Cam also has a mixture of good and bad days, I'm hoping it will improve from 8 weeks or so. Sometimes he just cries for hours on end and I'm tearing my hear out from the stress, although it seems to happen on days when he doesn't sleep much so I know he's over tired. No matter what I try, he won't sleep for longer than 10 minutes. I just hate it when he cries, it breaks my wee heart to see him so upset :( And as for your friend, I can understand where she is coming from but hopefully they will work our what is causing her m/c and she'll have a bub of her own soon. My AF has not arrive as yet.....waiting, waiting.....

Jelly, Cam sleeps for 3-3.5 hours at a time, including over night, but I've noticed that over the last few nights he has slept for up to 5 hours. I have increased his formula to 150 ml (from 120) and when he takes in the whole lot he sleeps longer. He might be also recovering from a day of little sleep too, so I'm not too sure.....Hopefully your little guy sleeps longer and longer soon!

AFM, I continue to have very restless evening times with my wee man, and very little sleep during the day from him. I was convinced he had a cold (blocked nose, raspy sound from him chest, excessive crying, not finishing his bottles etc ) so I finally took him to the doc today, and he has severe thrush in his mouth!! I have to admit it's been pretty bad for a week or so, but I thought it was from the milk.....Turns out it's thrush. So I have some gel I have to put in his mouth 3 times a day. The doc said that could explain why he doesn't always finish his bottles and the unsettled behaviour. I hope he's onto something....we'll soon see!

Beata - OMG thrush! I would never have know that they were symptoms. Just goes to show. Hope he gets better soon. What gel did you get? Is it Daktarin?

Jelly - we very rarely get any more than 4 hours between feeds, which means 3 hours of sleep. You're not alone.

Teresa - lets hope things are better with AF now.

Hi to everyone else.

Well, things have been going a bit more smoothly for us. Fraser had his vaccs on Tuesday, which was not a pleasant experience. He wasn't bad at all - mummy was in more of a state! He got one in each leg (one bled really badly) and an oral dose. They said the oral dose would give him very heavy soiled nappies, but still waiting! Even though we're on the anti-constipation formula, things are still a bit firm in the nappy dept and not that regular, but apparently the regularity doesn't come into it. Anyway, he was fine after his jabs, until we went to the Physio at night and he screamed from the minute we got into the waiting room, until we got back to the car. I was expecting an extremely bad night, but he was pretty good! Yesterday we had his Ultrasound on his Sacral Dimple, and all is well - THANK GOODNESS! I am so relieved! It has been constantly in the back of my mind that there was something serious. They said that there is a pit at the other side of the external pit, but it's not attached to the spinal cord or any of the nerves, and they showed us the nerves pulsating dependently, which was great. They checked, double checked and triple checked everything. They just said that if we have any concerns at all, to get him straight back, especially if when it comes to crawling, he has issues, but they're pretty sure all is well! So relieved!!!!

Miamunchkin, yep, it's Daktarin gel. Have you had to use it too?????? His whole tongue is just caked in the white stuff, but it was when the doc looked into his mouth with a light he saw the white spots inside his cheeks. Poor bugger! Yay on all clear for the sacral dimple!! That must be such a relief. And what a little trooper for being good at his vaccs! I'm dreading those....Cam did his very first sheep poo yesterday.....so far he has been pooing every 2 to 3 days, and they are pretty soft and sooooo smelly, but last night he did one that half resembled a sheep poo and a cat poo. As hard as a sheep poo but in the shape of a cat poo :o I'm not sure why he is constipated :shakehead: the only thing I didn't do yesterday was give him his daily sweet water. Would it really make such a difference in one day???

Beata, when we got a home visit, the midwife thought he might have thrush as he had a bit of nappy rash, so told us to get Daktarin, but we haven't used it as it said on the pack that it wasn't for babies. We haven't had anyone look in Fraser's mouth for a while, and he's stopped taking his full feed, so wondering if he might have it too!
Yip - poos sound similar to Fraser's. We're on the Novalac for constipation, and he is still having firm poos. We were giving him prune juice and sweet water, but then it was all too much and he had diarreah, poor mite! So we stopped that, and just stuck with the Novalac, but I had to give him sugared water this morning, so hopefully that will help. Might just have to try and keep it up every day! Sounds like you will with Cam too!

Don't stress about the vaccinations - I think that it's made out to be worse than it is. As long as you keep an eye out, all will be fine. We got a great sheet from the nurse which told us each vax he had and what the symptoms and chances of having that symptom would be - very useful.

Huge relief about his dimple. It's so nice to know that all looks well.

I know not many people are using formula but just wondered if anyone has tried the Heinz Nurture Gold? If so, what is it like? ~b~? I know you have tried a few different ones? We can't keep Fraser on the Novalac as a long term thing, so this one seemed quite similar. He's only got a few feeds left of the Novalac, so should start this one tomorrow.

when hamish had his injections done he cried for the first couple of mins and was ok after that. he was unsettled for a couple of days afterwards but nothing panadol didnt fix!

B - yeah hamish is every night. It's cos he gets overstimulated and then becomes unsettled

~b~, I thinkl Fraser has been the same, but it has been difficult to tell, as we have had so many dramas with the wind/constipation combo, but all I can say, is since Friday, Fraser has been like a different baby. He has been staying awake for a max of an hour and a quarter - as soon as I see his tired signs, I pop him into his cot (stopped using the bassinette), switch on his mobile, he mutters for about 5-20 mins then fallls asleep on his own! It is such a difference from this time last week when I was in tears, rocking him to sleep for half an hour, then as soon as we lay him down, we got 5 mins, then he was wide awake again! I think a few hours in baby world equate to a period of weeks in adult world. Good luck - I hope Ewan settles down soon xx

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!!!!! Especially to all the first time mummies like myself, i had such a nice day, had both sets of parents round here and i put on a ploughmans luncheon, Adrian was very well behaved and got lots of cuddles from all grandparents. Hope everyone else had a good day too.

RE: unsettled bubs
Adrian has been the same for about 2 weeks, lots of crying in the afternoons, not taking his full feeds and taking longer to settle. Hopefully it settles soon but the upside is now that he is more alert and awake I get lots more smiles and almost giggles :)

I have a question, Adrian hates drinking his water to help with his poos and acts like im trying to give him poison, ive tried putting in some sugar to sweeten it but he still wont drink it. So i was thinking, is it safe to put a little bit of formula in it but leave it mostly water, just to give him the taste so he drinks it? The can says not to mess with doses but he is mostly breastfed anyway so i cant see the harm in giving a bottle with only a little formula in it, what do you guys think?

i hope all you mummy's had a great mothers day! we spent all day with the inlaws and had lunch and tea with them.

HI mummies! Hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day yesterday!

I know, I haven't posted in here for aaaaages but I do read every day - just get too lazy n distracted to post anything back :hide: But it's really good to hear when our bubs are doing similar things/ going through the same stages.

Here's an update on what's been going on in my little world:
Blake is now just over 7 weeks old, and on his check-ups last week he weighed in at 5.1kg and 59cm long - he has grown 7cm in 7 weeks!! We are getting lots of smiles and sounds and sometimes a little giggle which is really really cute :D
We are going to mother's group every thursday at the clinic, and the nurse talks about a different topic at each session which is great and we learn a lot.

Blake has been quite snuffly and sounds quite choked up in his throat, especially first thing in the morning. I bought the fess littlenoses, it helped to wash the snot out of his nose but he was still coughing during feeds. When I told the MCHN about this, she asked what formula I was using. I was using S26 original, and she said that every time she asked what formula a mum was using when the baby was very snuffly, every time they were using S26!! So I changed to Heinz on her suggestion, and a few days on he sounds much better! Still a little choked up but its going away. The can says 3 scoops to 150ml, but he rarely finishes the bottle anymore. But i suppose as long as he is happy with what he has, it must be ok.

I have been having a bit of a hard time myself - a bout of mastitis turned into a breast abscess, and on the night of my birthday I ended up in emergency, the next day it was operated on and a drain put in to make sure it was all cleaned out. So 2 nights in hossy without my bubba, was so sad :cry: but dh took good care of him and visited all day. On the mend now, had Silverchain coming to change the dressing for a week and to monitor the healing, but i can do it myself now nd it's healing very well. DH got me a massage voucher for my bday, so as soon as its all better I am going to go and get myself pampered!! :dance:

re: restlessnes - i haven't noticed it happening to Blake yet, he's just been spending more time awake during the day, but still settling fine and sleeping at least 4 hours at a time at night. As soon as he shows any tired signs (jerky arms/legs, a yawn) i wrap him up really tight and cuddle him til he goes to sleep then pop him in his bassinet or rocker.

re: thrush, my lil man has it on the inside of his thighs. i'm using daktozin cream on it (daktarin with zinc so its water resistant) 5 days since we started using it and its almost all gone.

mia - great news about the sacral dimple!! im using heinz nurture - not the gold tho, my MCHN thinks they are waste of money? Blake is good on the heinz, no constipation or wind, and goes 3.5 to 4 hrs between feeds - though he doesn't finish the full 150mls suggested.

Teresa - glad you had a good Mother's Day. We did the same, except spent it with my Mum and siblings for lunch. DH let me sleep in until 9 and then he and Angus bought in some presents. Angus gave me a few smiles too - but I'm not sure if they are proper smiles yet or still wind...

B - FB is quite frustrating like that. I haven't been judged at all - but I was guilty of doing that with BIL. He added DH's ex wife (of 10 years) and I was like WTF?? I wrote him an email and eventually he called to apologise after Angus was born. Yet he still has her as a friend :wall: Apparently his children want to catch up with their cousins and he needs to organise it with their mother when they go to Sydney, yet they live on the Gold Coast and have made no effort to come and meet their other cousin (Angus) who is only an hours drive away :wall::wall:

Hi to everyone else! Sorry I've run out of brain space to do any more personals :D

Angus is going really well! I took him shopping with my Mum the other day and she took him around while I went to buy her Mother's Day present. The only thing is that I forgot that I needed to feed him!! So I was running late and poor Mum was waiting at the Coffee shop and had to put her finger in his mouth for him to suck! Also, she came over the other night and did all the night feeds (with expressed milk). So DH and I had a full night sleep! I've also started expressing one bottle a day so that DH can get up and do one of the early feeds.

The bad news is - DH will be going back to work soon :( We will also be moving down to Canberra :( I really don't want to go because I am going to miss my Mum and I'm sad that she is going to miss out on Angus... Oh well, she might come down with us to help us settle in to a new house. I am looking forward to moving away from my sister though. She moved in with me when I moved to Brisbane on my own and was going to move out when DH got back from Afghanistan. But 8 weeks later she is still living here and things are really strained! Sometimes I just walk around in my bra and undies because I am usually feeding or sleeping and I am really looking forward to having our own space!!

Anyway, I hope everyone is going well :)

Oh yeah - just had another question..

As we are moving away in about 3 or 4 weeks (depending on when DH has to start his new job) - we will probably have Angus' Christening sooner as opposed to later. I have no idea how to organise one - has anyone got any ideas?? I have the gown that Mum used for me and my siblings and I am hoping that Angus will still fit in it! Also, we want to get him Christened in a Presbyterian church or a park with an ADF chaplain, but - can I get it all done in time???

I have been reading all the posts, but never seem to be able to finish a reply lately :lol:

Tiah is sleeping through the night now (10.30pm - 5-6am). I am taking advantage of that while it lasts! She is very unsettled and clingy from 6pm through to 10.30 though... she has heaps of cluster feeds and cuddles but that works well for us because that is when DP is home to help. She doesnt sleep more than an hour or so during the day though....

I took her to a baby sensory class yesterday, and although it was hard being in a class with heaps of woman I dont know (I am so bad at those things) it was seriously the best thing I have ever seen for babies! Tiah loved it, there was bubbles, smells for her to try, so many toys..... they do classes in WA and NSW - I really reccommend it ladies, they do something different every week and all the babies in there were so happy the entire hour!

Does anyone else go to Mothers Group or something similar? Am I the only one that finds it hugely awkward??????

I go to a mother's group once a week. I'm not a 'social' person, and thought I would just go to the first one and never go back. But I actually quite like it! There are only 6 of us, and I am the youngest, but it's a lovely afternoon really and it's nice to talk to other mum's IRL, even though I can ask all my questions and share experiences here on Belly Belly.

nat - maybe get everyone to bring a plate of food and a drink to share. u could just provide the meat and maybe a few bottles of soft drink also. i think its a great idea to get the padre from the ADF to do it. they dont really dont get utilised much. i was supposed to have one of the padres from the base come and visit me in hospital when i had Hamish but he never came. either that or he came when i was downstairs in the nursery and didnt pass a message on or the midwives never told me. wouldnt put it past them there!!!

afm, af started off light for a few days then on mothers day it came very heavy. had to get DH to take me to the shops to get a pack of pads as i didnt have any spares on me. having to change the pad every couple of hours. thank god Hamish wakes up overnight otherwise i would leak everywhere! so damn annoying and embarrising too. for all those mums who have had more then one baby, is this normal?
anyway better go. gotta put the dummy back in Hamish's mouth. he is starting to get really good with this new sleep routine but this time of night he plays up a bit. hope all is well with everyone else

Girls, is everyone going to get the vaccs done for their bubs? Cam has got his booked for today, but there are so many pros and cons out there!!! I want to get them done, but wanted your opinions on this.....

Beata- it's personal opinion really. Some mothers hate them, some swear by them. As for me, I will be getting Grace done. I had my other two kids immunised and had no adverse reactions, they were a little grumpy afterwards but that was about it.

Meercat- That's great Tiah is sleeping through!!! It must be a girl thing....Grace is now sleeping from 9.30 through until 5-6am. (usually 5.15ish). My body feels so much better since she started that! She is more restless during the day now though, and is also very clingy and cranky from 6 at night till she goes to bed.

Teresa- no, me either! I'm still trying to work the new system out!

just a question out of interest:think:, how many of us are breast feeding, and how many are formula feeding? The midwife said that less women are breastfeeding now than they were 7 years ago when i had ds. Would be interesting to see!

Beata - I am getting Tiah immunised. I have heard a lot of negatives and positives, but in the end I think the good outweighs the bad.

The class I went to is called Baby Sensory, if you google it they have a website with the locations. I cant wait for next week, already the things they showed me are making playtime with Tiah way more fun :p

Con- i am breastfeeding and giving formula top ups because Adrian is always so hungry, but mostly breast milk. Though he has gotten quite lazy while feeding and has a habit of blowing or pushing my nipple out with his tongue so he just sucks on the very end. Very annoying as i have to keep re attaching :(

beata- i will be getting Adrian immunised. My philosophy is that the ratio of kids getting sick with measles, mumps, chicken pox etc, is a lot higher than the number of kids having adverse reactions to immunisations, so im going with those numbers. Also, you have to consider that with so many parents choosing NOT to immunise, the likely hood of your child being exposed to another child with whooping cough etc is also a lot higher, especially in day cares, and some day cares wont even take your child if thier not immunised. So, i say do some research and go with what you feel comfortable with. HTH If your interested, my DH posted a thread on the debunking of immunisation related autism in the immunisations forum (under the name spencee)

AFM- im worried i have shot myself in the foot with Adrian :( We weren't using a dummy at the beginning as we didnt want him to get dependant on soothing with it but i capitulated for car trips to keep him quiet, and then it was for when i needed to shower, and then it was so i could have a nap during the day, etc, etc and now it seems that he is getting harder and harder to settle without it :( Trying to wean him off it before it becomes too much of a problem. Guess we'll wait and see.
Was thinking about trying some novalac sweet dreams formula at night to keep him tummy full so we both get a bit more sleep but im worried that a thicker formula will make him constipated, and its already hard enough to get him to drink his sweet water, any ideas?

Jelly what sugar r u using? We use raw sugar and hamish loves it. Maybe trying a different sugar might help

Ive been using a few drops of honey because thats what the lady at the chemist said, but i will try the raw sugar and see how that goes:)

Just a quick note re honey - honey can be fatal in infants under 12 months of age. It contains bacterial spores that a baby's digestive system cannot break down and lead to infant botulism. Don't mean to alarm you but especially under 6 mths it is a big concern. (Older toddlers and adults are able to break this down safely).

Try to fit in a few extra bfs - bm is the best cure for constipation in a baby. Sugar in water is not likely to have any effect and is not recommended.

Thanks for all your imput on the immunisations. I ended up taking Cameron today to the community health centre to get his needles. I've never seen him cry so hard or scream so loud. I was almost in tears but I know it's for his own well being. I felt better after I heard all the newborns scream just as loud ;) it wasn't just him!

Con, formula feeding for 6 weeks now. I only b/f for 2 weeks.

b, lucky you for the 5 hour stretches! I've only had a couple of those myself, it's mostly 4 hours over night and 3 during the day.

Meercat, what exactly are those classes? I'v been thinking of going to the mother's group thing, I should get out of the house more!

Jelly, I've been using the dummy on Cameron prety much since the beginning. I wasn't a 'dummy' person but it was and is handy when Cam is unsettled. The only negative is that he likes to fall asleep with it during the day (not at night though, go figure :o) and every time it falls out he grizzles. Sometimes it falls out 10 times before he falls asleep, it's a bit annoying if you're trying to do something!
When I thought Cam had colic (which turned out to be oral thrush, so no colic here) I put him on Novolac Colic. It constipated him so much his poos were really hard. I now have him on the previous one, Nestle Nan H.A Gold and poos are back to the normal consistency (ie like wet clay/toothpaste hehehe).

Teresa, I put a bit of brown sugar in Cam's water, but I used to put a tea spoon in 100 ml of water, and now I have been slowly reducing it to nothing. A lot of people told me that the sugar can still rot the babies' teeth in the gums so I am trying to give him plain water eventually.

Well, today was quite emotional for me with the vac. injections. It breaks my heart to see Cam upset, and really felt for him when he screamed in pain. It was if someone was killing him!!! He was a bit unsettlesd today but I gave him baby panadol when we got home and again at 8 pm. I've noticed that he's been feeding every 3 hours for the last week or so, he was previously going 3.5-4 hours during the day......don't know what is going on. I got a whooping cough/tetnus shot too today, and off for my flu injection on Friday.

I only just found this thread. My son Liam was born on the 16th March and is now 8-wks. I hope you don't mind me joining, I have had a little read at some of your posts and have found them really helpful as I guess we are going through very similar things at the same time.

Hi Beata, the immunisation thing has been doing my head in to be honest. I am seeing my GP next week and have a few questions for her, but I am leaning towards getting them for Liam as well. It is just the amount of injections they get in such a small space of time that stresses me out! It must have been stressful for you seeing Cameron cry that much, but as you said it is protecting him. Well done mum, not easy thing to do I'm sure.

My little boy is thriving, but the one thing that I have been struggling with and wanting to ask you all about is settling him down to sleep. He is a great night sleeper (once his down), but getting him to sleep during the day is quite tricky. I look for tired signs and know that he is ready for bed, but he just can't settle himself yet. Has anyone managed to 'teach' their baby to self-settle yet, is this possible at this stage? I was rocking him in my arms which could take anywhere from 10-mins to 45-mins and now have a really bad back & neck. I am now putting him is a baby swing sometimes at that seems to work, but I am told 'to be careful what habits I start' as they will get use to falling to sleep that way. I hope this makes sense - lol! Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

hi beryl and welcome. i have been trying a routine with Hamish where i will spend a few mintues in my rocking chair cuddling him then put him down in his cot, wrap him tightly, then walk out. will wait a minute or two of his crying then go back in give him his dummy, try and comfort him and walk out again. sometimes it works great, others not so great. he is getting better tho! u could try googling sleep and babies or go to your local public library and loan some books out on it. i am off to my local library today to pick up pinky mckays books to read. she is very recommended so maybe try her books? good luck with it all

beata - Hamish cried with tears when he had his 8 week injections (mind u by the time i got hold of my gp he was 10 weeks when he had them :wall: ). he is coming up in a few weeks for his 4 months ones! i cant believe its almost that time.
