Babies born~March 1st-15th 2010 #1

Hey there everyone,

What a night we had last night. I feel like a little like a zombie today. DS1 woke up every few hours and wanted to come to bed with us then DS2 had a sore tummy and just fed all night. Ended up just putting him next to me so I could get some sleep then my DH took him for a bit and watched cricket at 2am, so lovely.

Queen Bee that is so great that you got your vbac! I also had a vbac and feel better than I ever could have imagined after giving birth.

Mum2willie How was the first day looking after the 2 littlies on your own? I bet you did amazing.
My son never has been a good sleeper so I guess I was prepared for it to get worse when number 2 arrived. He is in love with his brother though and hugs and kisses him. He even cried at daycare, not because we were leaving but because we were taking Lennox with us! The only trouble I have had is boobie time. He was breast fed till 18 months and is still protective of them! He yells Calin's boobie, get off Lennox!!!

Hey Rach, Jemma is beautiful. Not many Pink's arriving around this time!

Breesa I think having sore boobs is one of the most uncomfortable things I have experienced. I hope that the lactation clinic and ABA help you out and give you some good advice. You will have to share the tips that help you.

Breesa - have you tried the cooling gel breast pads? I think Stacey mentioned them a while back and I would also highly recommend them. They are such relief on sore nipples and stop normal breast pads and bras from sticking to damaged nipples :o I got them from Woolies.

QB - nice to hear from you. Love Tobi's name ;) Will have to check out this baby moon - it sounds good.

Deedles - I feel ya on the night-time feeding. Last night was actually a good night here. Toby slept for a 3.5 hr stint, but the norm is every 2-3 hrs.

I've been thinking about co-sleeping but DH is terrified of rolling on him and I'm too scared to put him on the edge of the bed as he can already move himself around in his cradle and I'd be worried he'd fall out! Have any of you bought one of those mini bed things that you put in your bed? Sorry! That's incredibly vague but it's the best I can come up with at the moment :doh:

It's really interesting for me to hear from you VBAC Mums how much easier you are recovering this time. I had a VB with DD and I have to say that apart from the first couple of days the c/s this time has been easier to recover from. Much less pain for me. I had episiotomy and forceps and quite a lot of tearing with DD. I wonder if it's partly because I had an elective and wasn't exhausted from a long labour??

My baby boy willl be 3 weeks old tomorrow - my, how time flies!

Sorry that I cannot say hi to each and everyone of you but I'm surely thinking of you all, and every now and then I'm lurking to see how everyone doing :D

I too am just popping in quickly to say Hello and that I hope everyone is doing well. I have to say, isn't it nice not being pregnant anymore and having our beautiful little baby's in our arms?

Sophie is doing really well. We came home from hospital on Tuesday and she has settled in well and breastfeeding like a trouper! In fact she likes it so much she doesn't want to give it up, and last night I had to resort to giving her a dreaded dummy (I really didn't want to but there was no other option at 2.30am!!) She'd had three feeds in four hours, had drained me dry and she was 'spilling' with milk, but was still asking for more!! She then slept for nearly 5 hrs without wanting another feed which was a godsend for me.

Anyway, DS is in care today, so DH and I are taking Sophie out on her first shopping trip. I had better go get in the shower.

Will hopefully have a chance to catch up with some personals soon.

M2M some great advise and tips thanks heaps, i just got some infants friend, do u use yours before or after a feed? do u find it works, everything is going great with Hannah except the wind is a killer

i gotta write this cause i think this all the time.... i feel like the odd ball here only because i dont have time to read posts if lucky i read the last one or two posts. I so dont mean to be rude or act like i dont care cause i do i just struggle to concentrate and find time to read and read and so many new ppl now its hard to keep up we have a massive bunch of of mothers here or maybe its just me.

Squidipa, I'm in exactly the same boat and I have only one child to care for.

Just wanted to pop in and say hi, and like everyone else, sorry no persies!

We're off to the docs today as Fraser has a very sticky eye. It started last Monday and has been looking not too bad - just cleaning it with salt water and cotton balls. It got a lot worse yesterday so don't want to take any chances. PLus it gives me a chance to show him off to my doc who cared for us throughout my pregnancy and was an absolute star!

Also, breastpump broke through the night - what next! Contacted the manufacturer and they are sending out a replacement motor. Lucky I can use manual on it in the meantime!

Hi ladies geez im gone for a couple of days and it goes a little mental in here i'll have to come back later.
This only a little one as both 1 and 2 are asleep and I have a 1 hour window to get some myself. But with some relief we survived Cyclone Ului but have only just had power back on 3.5 days without. I realise I should be greatful we didnt have a lot of damage but to be honest my main concern was no fridge/freezer or washing machine especially with toddler and 2 week old:rolleyes:. But we are ok so will not complain too much.

Lily is doing well we havent had her checked in a week for obvious reasons - no power but she is growing and eating like a horse.I still have no real pattern she seems to go 3 hours during the day no probs, then will sleep 7-12 which is great but then i get every 2 hours from midnight....and at 4 i give in and take her into bed with me and then she sleeps till 7 and the cycle starts again :doh:

You all sound good, i'll be back after nap time......my house looks like an efffing bomb has gone off, i need a cleaning fairy and the washing machine has been beeping all morning but i need sleep.

Gosh, totally agree with you Lis. I've just spent the last 20 minutes catching up on everyone's posts!!

We just got back from our morning walk down the street - I had to pick up bub's birth certificates from the post office. I have to figure out how to put his footprints on the commemorative one.

Breast milk is good for a sticky eye - I remember hearing that from my grandmother.

I'm starting to stock up on a milk supply for DH when he gets back. Thursday nights are going to be "bloke" nights. So he will be chief lunch truck (as I "affectionately" get called) while I sleep the night away .... well that's the plan.

Can I just say, it's really really *****ty with him away. I realise that I'm not the first mum to go it alone (I was on my own with DS1 but was also living with my parents at the time which is about 100 times easier than it is now). Whenever he gets the chance to call it's fantastic to hear his voice but as soon as he hangs up I spend the next 5-10 minutes crying! Oh go figure. I didn't quite realise how busy or hard it would be without him. Luckily DS1 has been good. He's helping around the house by doing his share of washing up and putting his clothes in the wash. Plus he looks after the dog and tidies the yard as it needs it. But I would LOVE someone to cook me dinner; go down the road for the bottle of milk and loaf of bread I forgot to get; take the car up to Kmart to get the tyre replaced (argh! another story); or take DS1 to cadets and pick him back up again. Most of all I would just love to be able to cuddle up to DH.

Oh, dear.... I'm getting maudlin. Sorry ladies. In 8 sleeps I get my mum and dad for 2 whole weeks so I won't be feeling so sorry for myself. I've been holding off begging her to come earlier. When they go I will only have 15 sleeps until DH gets back.

We are sort of getting into a routine. Robert is on 3 hourly feeds (am I repeating myself, can't remember if I posted this bit already or I emailed it to friends...bear with me if I am!) and is gaining weight. I took him down to the child health clinic yesterday for a weigh-in and measure he is 3.99kg and 51.5cm. So he's gained another 400g this last week. He has the cutest little chubby cheeks and his little chubby arms and legs are just gorgeous!

Who said something about feeding and feeding and wanting more but spilling?? Robert does the same. He also growls if I'm too full and he can't quite get the nipple in his mouth which is just hilarious. He cracks me up, he has "character".

When I was at the clinic yesterday I asked the nurse about foods to avoid and she (like someone else here was told) said that it doesn't seem to affect every baby but as a general rule she said, if the food is going to make you fart it will probably do the same to bubs! So it's no more curried sausages for me although I did enjoy them he didn't! Oh and I met my neighbour at the clinic - her bub's is a couple of days older than Robert and the lady on the other side of her is due this week and she's also having a boy. What a busy street.... well it was just over nine months ago :ROFL:

Deedles, I've been watching the cricket too - it's way better than Danoz or home shopping.

Oh and we survived the storm - it wasn't as bad down our way as it was in Perth itself.

I rang the maternal health nurse in my area and she told me it's really common in newborns, basically a tear duct gets blocked and will unblock itself eventually. She said to wipe it clean with warm boiled water with a cotton ball from the inside out, and breast milk is good too. Keep doing it until it clears up.

I had the stocky eye problem, tried the boiled water thing didnt work, so i used breast milk cleared up with in 2 days:)

Thanks lovelies for your replies re the sticky eye. We have been trying the cooled boiled water, salt and cotton ball, followed by breast milk for a week and a half now and it was getting worse, although today it looks a bit better! Doc gave us some antibiotic drops anyway - he said if it is green then it's probably an infection (conjunctivitis) but if just watery or yellow, then it could be a blocked tear duct. Apparently the blocked tear duct can last for 6 months!

My doc is so nice! He congratulated me with a kiss and a hug on arrval! Then, because Fraser's medicare number hasn't come through yet, he didn't charge us and just said to give them a call when it does come through and they'll bulk bill direct to Medicare!

Beata - see how you go with Cameron's eye - it may be worth a visit to the doc if it does become a green discharge! Loved your pics on fb! x

Wow, it is getting busy in here. I feel a little guilty because technically I should be on the 16-31Mar thread but most of my belly buddies are here so it's nice to hear how things are going.

DH did the night shift last night which was a godsend, I cried when he offered, I was so pooped. Tonight we are going to do a split shift, he'll do the first half and I will do the second. Funny but I wake up anyway, some mother sixth sense, that even though he didn't cry last night I still woke up every time bubs was awake.

We had coffee with some of the school mums today which was so nice, Tobi's first outing.

Babymoon is basically taking it easy for the first six weeks, not going out and even staying in your PJ's (the theroy is if you get dressed people expect you to do things). One doctor said if you have a babymoon that 12 months down the track you are in a much better place. Sounds good to me, but not sure if I could stay home the whole 6 weeks, I go stir crazy, I'm not much of a home body. It's a bit hard to follow this principle when you already have kids especially when you have school run etc. but I am going to try my best. This is our last baby and I intend to savour every moment. Also with the other two I had PND and big life changes (ie moving house) when they were little.

Well better go get some sleep before my "shift" starts.

Am switching over from our belly buddies group.

Nice to see you all and meet some new ones!

Does anyone else have a screaming hour (that lasts for WAY longer then an hour)?

Willow will be beautiful all day, feeding and sleeping ... feeding 3-4 hourly during the day and sleeping usually after each feed - she falls asleep on the boob mostly.
But from about 4pm through till the late feed at around 11pm she will just scream.
She will still feed during this time, obviously be quiet while feeding, but then as soon as feed is over, she will scream again.

We run through our check list - is she warm, is she dry, is she with us (DH or I), has she been burped ... but to no avail, NOTHING will settle her.

She will then crash on the boob during her late feed and will sleep then from 11pm through till our alarm goes off around 6am. Yes, we are enjoying this sleep pattern but seriously, the screaming from 4pm - 11pm is insane.

Last night was pretty awful.
She screamed from 3pm, fed at 5pm, fed again at 8pm, we bathed at 9pm out of desperation as a bath usually settles her ... but not last night. I had fed her at 8pm so was expecting another feed around 11pm however at around 10:30pm she crashed out with exhaustion - DH and I also crashed out ... we were all in our bed.
I expected to be woken by Willow's screams anytime after 11pm wanting a feed (she has sometimes gone 4-5 hourly of a night) however she then slept through till the alarm went off at 6:15am - not one of us stirred till the alarm switched on.
We felt so terrible this morning as she went almost 10 hours between feeds.
I had DH call the 24 hour parents hotline (Trescillian) to check this was OK, the lady told us it was OK for the baby however probably not so great for me with my boobs and milk production, however obviously we were all that exhausted we needed the sleep.

Wow - it is busy here...my toddler is at kindy today so have a little time..so here it goes..

Jandals - Sophie feeds for comfort too. Re vag birth vs c-sect - I had 2 v births - 1st I was so sore and sorry for weeks and weeks - massive tearing and stiches from vac delivery, torn cartlidge off ribs, hips out etc. This time, fantastic!!!! Not sore at all!!! I think it just depends on the delivery!

QueenB - Good on u re babymoon! I was in hossie for 4 nights - so that kinda counts.

Rach - Congrats on baby Jemma

Bree - I definitely recommend ABA - they are the loveliest ladies and so helpful and kind. Glad lumps have gone. I started to get a lump and redness - but thank goodness got rid of it too!

Deedles - I had a shocking Wednesday night too!! Sophie crying till 11pm and I did just the same - just brought her into bed with me! She relaxes immediately and we both got sleep.

Last night when she started fussing, I just brought her in with me too...someone asked about co-sleeping...i just put bubs in the crook of my arm and lie on my side with that arm extended...this is how I read is a safe way to co-sleep. I co-slept with my toddler from 8mths-15mths in bed with me. It is lovely!

Deedles - I understand re the toddler and Bfding time. I fed Will until he was 18mths too (the pregnancy changed my milk and think and he gave up!). But that is when he has been naughtiest! Improving now - as I reward him with a bicci or book to read at the time...but he has asked for some milk a number of times! Poor bubs!

Lou - Another Sophie!!! a 5hr sleep - lucky you!!! My Sophie also feeds until milk is literally spilling out!!! She projectile vomits entire feeds every couple of days too!!! Soaks me!

Shell - I use the infacol before each feed to prevent wind and then Infants Friend to relieve wind if the infacol hasn't done the job - so I use the Infants Friend when needed...but you can use it with each feed - Actually considering trying that with Sophie and the Infacol made my toddler burp and fart without fail when he was little but not working every time for Soph. I asked the pharmacist about using both products alternately and she said it was fine. It has helped Sophie - but we still get a few back spells!

Squid - I hear you - my brain is fried!

Claire - I was going to say breastmilk but seems everyone else suggested it!

Lis - I just take Sophie to bed too!!! Glad to hear you didn't get too much damage!!

Cass - I feel for you! It is really hard work!! Be kind to yourself!

Wednesday night was a shocker!!! But last night was our best ever! Sophie fed at 7.30 and went to sleep at 8pm and didn't wake till 12!!! Then she wouldn't settle so at 1am I put her in bed with me and then she didn't wake until 4.45!!!! Miracle!!! Then she went back to sleep until just before 7am!!! Great night for us! Actually had a bit of sleep - yeah...

She was atrocious Thursday am - wind!!

Last night, DH walked around with her for about an hour doing his jobs with her lying belly down on his forearm!!! He is employed again tonight to do it...it worked a treat when my son was little in settling his wind...so I guess hubby is employed again!!!! Shell - try it!

Toddler has been much better the last few days!!! Yesterday he was angelic!! At night time, we have put back bedtime to 8pm and having quiet time on the couch and it seems to have worked a lot better the last few night - no fighting sleep! Fingers crossed this new routine will work...it enables me to look after Sophie too...He said he is "happy" that he gets to go on the couch for quiet time and then fall to sleep in Mummy's bed with Sophie - I put them in together! A bit of negotiating and we may have a solution! Here's hoping.

Deedles - You asked how going with DH back at work - has been interesting getting into a routine - hard work - but each day I learn strategies for organising myself. Was very adventurous on Monday and took them both to the beach - not so successful...Yesterday I took them both to the park and it went great! Toddler needs his running time or he is terrible...Fortunately Nanna took toddler for a few hours Wednesday am - so that was great!

Would really love a double pram but have to wait until baby bonus comes in to afford it!!!

I'm having a sort of a babymoon today.... I'm staying in my PJs all day! In fact, I may just stay in them until mum arrives next week - I'm way over my attempt at doing a supermum impersonation. The dishes can pile up in the sink and the bed can stay unmade and it's nearly easter so I say bring on the dust bunnies! There's food in the freezer and a we have a microwave so we won't starve.

Is anyone else using the new hair product called babysick?? It does wonders for the ends of my hair LOL!!
