Sharon- Sorry hun, I didnt see your post I must have been typing my reply all that time in between Z demanding attention. WOW!! Logan is a big bubba!!! Zarlen is still so little, he is 60cm & almost 5.5kg. Still fits most of his 000's. I'll check those nappies out, Im always on the lookout for funky new ones. Logan is so cute in the pics with his nappies & hug a lugs! I love leg warmers we have heaps here too.
Baby weight... Im still terrible and eating choccies and stuff and I'm still about 2kg over my pre baby weight so not too bad, considering I've done nothing at all since his birth. I needa start exercising again! Where's the time for that?!! haha. The hospy swimming classes sound awesome!
And how do you get Logan to sleep all that time after a feed in the night, so jealous!! Once Z wakes for that first feed, he wakes every hour or 2 after that until its morning! Gah!
xxx
-
I've just ordered 2 more nappies from her! A denim one and a long haul night nappy. Love them! :)
I have no idea why/how he sleeps like he does. I feed him, burp, feed a bit more then wrap him back up, put him in his cot and close the door.
The bloody child health nurse tried to tell me it wasn't enough and he should be sleeping all the way through till morning by this age! For the love of god! The boy is only 14 weeks old! Ds1 wasn't doing this until 7mts! I know there are babies out there who sleep 12hrs all the way through but I think I'm pretty lucky with what Logan is doing. Good think I'm not a first time mum hearing that then going home stressing about it!
The new ones I bought are Baby Legs, a bit too big but they have 'bones' printed on them like skeleton legs! Soooo cute!!! Poor hubby thinks Logan is looking a little gay with his teething neclace, fancy nappies and legwarmers! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I told him if he wants to dress him each morning he can choose what he wears! :)
-
Im gonna go check the nappies out now!
You are sooo lucky he sleeps like that! Z doesnt even do 12hours in total per night, grrr! Maybe I should try having him in the cot or basinet so he isn't in our bed.
I've got Baby Legs too, we have those same ones, and cow print to match his Noo Designs cow print nappy cover, as well as rainbow, starry ones and the list goes on, Im addicted. It's hard to accessorise for boys so we do what we can! And with his nappies & many splashes of purple and his magenta bonds tights, Z is looking a little gay too hahah. But hey, he has 2 mums and his name is Zarlen Aster, would anyone be surprised by anything else! Hehe
-
The denim nappy is soooo cute!!!! Which cotton colour did you pick? Ahhh Im sooo tempted to buy a TuTu nappy hahahha! Do you find side snap or front snap better? I have both already but really dont know which I prefer lol
-
augh!
check out the action here!
so nice that we're getting back into it though ;)
ok, thank goodness it's the weekend, so I can catch up now ... have just fed my mister milky monster, so time for coffee and some belly belly time :D
-
Morning Peanutter... Hope you enjoy some quality time with Joshua over the weekend :)
Geeez I never have this much time on BB these days!
-
Morning peanutter!
Me neither! I'm supposed to be cleaning the lounge, putting the washing away and cleaning my car before mil arrives to come to karate with ds1! Oh well!!! Ooohhhhh coffee.... I miss coffee!!! So many things set Logan off it's not funny! Coffee, chocolate, oranges, tomatos!
Miskilla - I ordered the brown stitching with the trucks on it. Can't wait for it to arrive!!!
Well, my cup of black tea is now finished so it's back to my loungeroom/chinese laundry! Bring back the sunshine!!!!

Ellie – congratulations on the home! I hope you’re having a great time organising and planning and unpacking ... I love all that, making a home out of new rooms and nooks and crannies, etc.
Peta – I was going out of my head not having enough adult interaction when I was at home with Joshua... even though there were people I could call and speak with, and I had visitors or trips out every couple of days, it just wasn’t enough for me! And the routine while comforting was frustrating because it felt like everything was just on a 4hr loop ... But things that I felt helped were having little “grown up” projects. Not sure what sort of things you like to do, but I like writing and organising and cooking, so I had ongoing projects involving those sorts of things :) If I was going to be home for longer (and I wasn’t so beaten up by the birth) I might also have joined one of the walking groups that are around where I live. Our mothers group is lovely, but I didn’t get to know the ladies a whole heap, because I knew that they’ll all be seeing each other on a weekly basis for years probably, but I was only going to get to go to 4 meetings :( But the group would have been great too, if long term. Alleviates the cabin fever a bit ... Not sure if any of that is helpful to you? I hope you find things which you like and which make it easier for you. As for marketing, we do lots of lunches! Which I love, because I adore good food ... we also have a small publication, but most marketing is by being involved in groups, and talking to people. Sounds similar to your firm! And good luck for your move – not long now!! Two weeks!
Miskilla – we were told roughly 150mls per kilo of baby per day, but don’t stress out about the exact numbers. If he’s feeding and sleeping and growing and happy, then you’re doing the right things! I hope the lactation consultant is helpful. I went and saw one a couple of times (for flat nipples, and before going back to work). So how many pebbles do you ladies want all up? Sounds like a few! Sorry to hear about the further grief going on with your sister in law ... ouchies ... not sure what to say :( but I’m so glad that you lovely ladies are in the picture for Delilah – you might end up being a life line for that little girl one day... And re your Q, yes, Joshua is on 100% breastmilk. We feed and/or pump first thing in the morning, then I express at work around 11am and 3pm, then breastfeed twice at night. My supply has always been pretty good, but is a bit contrary at the moment ... grrr ... (more info below...) But we went the whole hog and spent a fair bit of dosh on the Avent electric pump, and got two (one for work and one for home) and they are fantastic. But about $180 (the cheapest we found – they’re anything up to $250 at some places!) . Not sure how we’d be doing with a manual or another brand... And congrats on defeating your one!! Which do you use? We have a similar issue with the in and out of the car thing ... we share a car, so DH had to collect and deposit me at the train station, which adds to Joshua’s trips, and interrupts his sleep and playing. But babies have been through worse, and survived!
Yules – thanks for your wishes. We’re really hoping the surgery isn’t needed too. To answer your question, all subsequent bubs of mine will have to be c-section, unfortunately. But I have time to get used to the idea... And the marketing is going well so far – already have one new file! BTW - where does your new name come from? Minimax I can guess! Glad that singas is going well for you, but more moving?!? Hope it’s somewhere lovely if it happens. And so pleased that you’re healed all up!! Does that mean you can DTD again? That would be nice...
Cass – that’s impressive range! I haven’t checked out Joshua’s peeing range, but he can projectile vomit a meter! I had him in the bath with me, and he did a couple mega farts and I was concerned he was going to follow in your little deacon-man’s footsteps ... I’m glad he’s healed up nicely too! Can I ask – what made you chose to get him done? I haven’t found many people who decided to, and so haven’t been able to find out why people still do it.
Hollybolly – sounds like your lovely little family are doing well ... I hope Carmello and Joshua both start giving us a bit more sleep :) Going great guns with his weight gain!!
sharon – that’s so fantastic about Logan’s sleeping! Sounds like you’re on a similar 12 hour ride to us – but without the crying and settling in the first sleep cycle! We’re working on it... Silly health nurse. She can go jump. And he’s BIG! Sounds just fantastic :D As does the pool thing! Which hospital does that? It sounds great. And the baby expo! Jealous ... I’m so pleased for you – it sounds like you’ve had a brilliant couple of weeks.
funky nappies – there are some delights out there ... yes, the tutu ones ... not something I’d be getting for Joshua! But I did see some fabulous tartan ones that I really wanted, and dalmatian print, giraffe print, denim style, ufo patterns, pirate patterns ... much better for me just to stay away! Too pricey, on one income...
babyweight – I got back to my pre-preg weight almost immediately after the birth, because I couldn’t eat etc ... but I haven’t improved since then! I really need to eat and exercise better, as I’m overweight, and my back still hurts etc, and I’m sure it would all be much better if I was a bit lighter! I'd love to get back to the pool and on the exercise bike, but the first is not allowed until 6 weeks after the surgery, and the other is OUT of the wuestion, as I'm still sore from the birth ...
night time sleep – our boy wonder generally finishes his night feed between 11 and midnight, and then largely sleeps until we get him up to take me to the station around 6.40am. But for the last couple of weeks, he often wakes up overnight – sometimes at 3, sometimes at 4, sometimes at 2.30 and then every twenty minutes... But after his morning feed, he’s basically out until 11am. So we’d love it if we could move one feed and have him sleep from say 9 until 6am, but having tried for 10 – 6, and it failing miserably, we’re just leaving the status quo for the time being. After all, Joshua is getting used to being alive and me back at work and everything else, so we don’t want to overcomplicate things...
afm – well, since my last post DH and I found that the new routine was a major failure ... bubba started waking a lot more often during the night, and often ended up needing a feed in the wee hours, which defeated the purpose of the exercise. The night where he slept for 8hrs on the new routine must have been a fluke – so we’ve gone back to the former plan of feeding around 7, 11, 3, 7, 11... but we’ll pull the 11pm back to 10pm gradually, and pray that he keeps sleeping until around 7am...
He wakes up overnight most nights now, which he used not do ... he just needs settling, though, and DH basically always sees to him which is good ... but we’re looking for ideas for helping bubba to NOT wake up! Uninterrupted sleep would be blissful, and would make getting through the working day a lot easier!
Also with the routine we were moving to (and have now abandoned) it ended up being the case that he was often feeding one more time than I was feeding/pumping him – which obviously doesn’t work! And on top of that, I’ve had a nasty cold and the net result was that sometimes when Joshie is now on the breast, he pulls off a lot and screams, and we all end up rather upset ... I think the cold has affected my milk supply, because sometimes when I pump I only get around 120 mls, whereas I normally get at least 180mls and anything up to 320mls. ***I’m sorry darling ladies who aren’t having much luck in the expressing department, but if you’ve read my birth story, and know that I’ve been back at work full time for almost a month now, I hope you’ll agree that SOMETHING had to go easily for me!***
But of course it leaves us wondering why he’s sometimes so unhappy on the boob at night ... is he rejecting the boob? Is there not enough milk? Is he sick? Is he just grumpy? I don’t know! Why won’t he tell me! It’s not much fun. This morning, we did his first feed of the day on the boob, and he did pretty well, but didn’t feed for as long as I thought he should. But he burped and perked and seemed very happy so we put him down, but he’s woken after only an hour – normally he sleeps for at least 3 hours after that feed ... so really not sure what’s going on here. But really praying that this resolves! We really want to keep him exclusively on breastmilk until he’s 6 months, and I’d really like to be able to keep using both breast and bottle for that time. He’s been fine with it so far, I’m not sure why there’d suddenly be a problem now...?
So I’m thinking that over the weekend, I need to pump more often to get my supply back up, cold or no cold ... I’m just feeling so tired and I just want to sleeeeep and maybe have a long hot bath. This cold is just taking it out of me ... I feel like such a wuss – it is just a cold after all.
Last weekend I BF basically all weekend – though my nipples were going to fall off by the end of it! Because bubba is now used to a teat, and so he’s a bit rougher ... and it’s very cold ... but we survived!
All that being said, Joshie isn’t lacking food, because he put on exactly 200gms in 6 days! So at his 11 week weigh, he was 5.820kg, which is lovely. I know he’s still tiny, but it feels like he’s getting so *big*!
And he’s just so beautiful ... he doesn’t smile much in response, but he does smile, and it’s just brilliant ... am very excited about when he’ll start responding and playing, etc. But we’re enjoying each stage as it comes.

Peanutter Maybe your supply is good, and Joshua is really an efficient feeder so when you are offering, he may still be full from the last feed? It's all trial and error. Sometimes Darcie faffs around on the boob, licking and playing around, so I just stop. She only feeds for about 10 mins on one boob per feed, but she feeds every 3 hours give or take. You could also try and see if Josh will take feeds more frequently during the day and see then if he drops more at night? Does he do a cluster feed before bed? Darcie does....I kind of just have her hanging off me before bed in her room while I read a book...I keep things quiet and dark and don't really do much talking...same goes for during the night if she wakes....I keep it quiet, dark and once she is done can usually put her down and she goes a few more hours (like Sharon with Logan)....Max used to do the same, but then for one reason or another (which you never actually know) things change again and you just have to go with the flow. You sound like you are doing a fantastic job. I totally admire how you can keep up with work and baby at the same time. Supermum :)
Sharon I know can't believe that we 'may' not be able to keep up Darcie and Logans little love affair! I'm off to check out these kawazuki's now! I have those skull and crossbone huggalugs from Max (and starry ones) and another friend from BB (whom I've never even met!) sent me some cute pink girly frilly ones!
I'll have to BBL ..... Darcie just woke up
ETA quickly - Yules came from when I used to babysit a little boy years ago....His Mum always called me Jules, which he couldn't say, so he called me Yule....then DH kept up calling me Yules :)

Hi Ladies!
What a lot of chatter. Thanks so much for your suggestions about getting out of the house. I have been heading to the beach for a walk each day the last few days which has been really nice. Aly seems to enjoy it too. I think once I move, I will find a Mum's group to join. I'm pretty shy about these things so it will be hard for me (though the people who know me probably wouldn't say I was shy at all, but I only open up after a while). I do have a few hobbies, but they are not really at home hobbies (I ride trail bikes & love cars). Once Aly is a bit bigger we will get her a bike & then we can all ride together (that's the plan, of course if she doesn't like it she can do whatever sport she wants).
Really excited, my work is having a Black & White Ball next Saturday night. A few of us are getting our hair done. I still have to find a dress, but hubby will come with me tommorrow & do that. That way he can mind Aly while I try on.
I am so jealous of you all being back to or near your pre-preg weights. I am still 10kgs over & nothing I am doing seems to be moving any. I guess not BF doesn't help. Oh well, maybe I'll just get a new wardrobe instead, that could be fun!!
Aly is FF and for her age range (2 - 4 mths) they say 200mls 5 times a day. Most days she will only have between 700-900mls though. She is still growing & putting on weight & the tin says that is a guide only. I think as long as bub's not crying or looking for more food, they are getting enough.
We are really lucky, Aly sleeps through from somewhere between 7 & 9pm to 5am each night. She then feeds 3 hourly through the day. It does make things a bit tricky to do, but I would rather that than being up half the night. We have never really forced a routine on her, we let her decide & she levelled out to where she is now, so that is very nice. I am expecting it to go a bit awol when we move until she gets used to the new house.
Crumpet good to hear from you & very happy to hear everything is going so well for you. I can't believe you're half way already, you will be holding wormette before you know it.
Ok, hope everyone is enjoying their weekends & we'll speak soon. xo

quickie: would love to know how warmly do you tuck your LOs in at night?
in hospital, we swaddled him in polarfleece, and then had the woven cotton blanket over him, and he was fine.
But at home (particularly now that he invariably pulls his arms out, leaving his chest uncovered by the blanket) it doesn't feel like enough, and I wonder whether he's getting too cold ...?
His hands are always freezing (we mitten them, but they get pulled off most of the time) and we put him down in a long arm and leg romper.
We keep the thermostat at 17-18 overnight.
How many layers do you use?
-
Logan has a singlet jumpsuit thing on (no arms or legs in it), plus a long arm/leg jumpsuit (with feet), then he's wrapped in a muslin wrap (breathable because it inevitably ends up being sucked on and half over his face!). Plus I have the oil heater on medium in his room. Seems to be ok, hands aren't too cold in the morning.
-
Layers - so glad I don't have to worry about that! Have you thought about getting a grobag instead of wrapping? I have Darcie in a bubaroo 0.3tog sleeping bag for the nights here with short arm short leg little suit on underneath, plus the fan is on.
When we were home she'd wear a sleepsuit thingy with vest underneath, wrapped (or 2.5tog grobag) and with another little blankie over her. Her hands were always FREEZING...but I always remember 'they' say not to worry about their extremities too much, if their chest is warm then all should be well. Do you think the cold wakes Joshua up?
Peta - I think it's important to push through when bubs is little by getting out of the house. When I had Maxy my next door neighbour had a little boy a few months older than Max who had bad reflux. She could see me going out (even just to the shops) and told me she'd get so jealous of me seeing me go out multiple times a day....saying she was stuck inside coz of her DS's reflux. I'd also head out with the dog, and her little dog used to just watch me go past from the window. I don't think she realised that while Max didn't have reflux, I was so 'STUCK' inside, and talking to her would kind of get me on a downer, so getting out was important to me, and even if I couldn't be bothered or was tired I'd make the effort. I'm sure that is what helped me lose weight too (walking with the dog). When you first join a mothers group you are only there coz the CHN put you there IYKWIM...the women you meet (or men) aren't probably who you would usually meet, so with mine I guess I was pretty reserved at first, but after a while these women became such gorgeous beautiful friends. I have also come across a website called meetup.....where you put in your location and there are groups that meet up with all sorts of reasons...mothers groups...geeks with computers etc etc...maybe you can check that out.
Max has been having me sleep in his room, or coming to our bed....it's been pretty annoying, so I'm tired today, even though Darcie slept so well. Max even had to come with me into Darcies room last night while I fed her. What can I say...he loves me! DH had Lasik eye surgery yesterday too so no doubt I'll have an extra baby today....blah
Happy Sunday everyone x

Yules - just read your blog!

Wow weren't we a chatty bunch yesterday!!!!
Yules: Hope everything goes well with DH's eye surgery. Oooo moving somewhere new. Can't wait to hear where you're going to. I also just read your blog. Fantastic. PMSL at your "holiday"!!!!
Sharon: Hahaha code brown  That's a good name for it (although it's more like a code yellow at the moment....) Yay for Logan's growth  Sounds like he has a similar night sleeping routine to Deacon. We have our last feed about 7-8pm, up again anywhere between 2-4am and then again when DH is up for work at 6-7am. You're swimming classes sound fantastic. I've gotta get my butt in gear and go to the gym with the indoor swimming pool to find out if they do something like that. Boo to the CHN. I only know one baby IRL that sleeps anywhere near 12 hours, and she only started that at 3mths. All the rest wake at least once during the night.
Holly: Go Carmello!!! I'm also hanging out for warmer weather. I won't have as much of an excuse to hide inside by the nice warm fire though....
Miskilla: Yay for giving the breastpump what for!!!! When I was at my exams the other day DH ended up giving Deacon about 160mL for his feed. I thought 120mL would be enough, but apparently he was screaming for more so DH had to quickly defrost some out of the freezer. I've been expressing the breast that Deacon doesn't feed from when he wakes for his early morning feed and freezing the milk so we have some ready to go if we need it. I also need to do it coz I'm that full it's painful and I would never be able to get back to sleep otherwise.
Peanutter: Sorry to hear your routine hasn't been going to plan. Fingers crossed you are able to work out what is best for you guys soon. We've been quite lucky with Deacon putting himself into a sort-of routine and learning the difference between day and night at an early age. There were a couple of reasons for us getting Deacon circumcised. One is DH is and we thought it would be a little less confusing for Deacon to "be like his dad". The main reason though is that between us we know 4 people who either have a son or know of someone with a son who weren't done as a newborn and had problems (from infections to tightening of the foreskin) when they were older (youngest was 4 and the oldest was 16) and having to then get it done anyway for medical reasons. They all said to us to get it done while he's young coz it was something that is much worse when they are older and don't heal as quick and it's also major surgery when they're older compared to having a plastic ring on for a few days.
With wrapping we haven't wrapped Deacon for about a month now as he didn't seem to need it and was prefering to have his arms free and would squirm around until they were, at night he sleeps in a long arm/long leg romper. The difference in what we do depends on whether we have our fire going or not. If the fire is on his room can be anywhere between 20 and 23 degrees so I only put a light blanket and then a thicker woven blanket on top. If the fire isn't going his room is about 16-18 degrees so I have him in his 2.5tog Grobag. I must say I lurve the grobag. It is fantastic as Deacon is a squirm and it stops him from being able to squirm out from under his blankets. I will have to invest in a lighter tog one for summer. Deacon also seems to feel the heat a lot more than me and seems to be more like DH in that regard. Whenever I think I need to layer him up coz I am feeling cold Deacon gets all grizzly and when I check him he is all clammy and hot under his layers. So I think it also depends on how Joshua handles the cold as well.
Crumpet: So happy to hear that little wormette is doing well and moving lots for you. Yay to being half way there!!!! :wiggle:
Peta: Ooooo a ball!!!! Good luck dress shopping and hope the night goes well for you.
AFM: The wedding we went to yesterday was beautiful. It turned out to be a gorgeous day. The only problem was it was quite windy and it seems to have made Deacon quite unsettled last night and today. A few people commented on how have babies out in wind will upset them and make them irritable. Have any of you guys found this too???? Deacon stole the show a bit yesterday though. We had him dressed in this super cool outfit my mum bought him and everyone was gooing and garring over him. He was really well behaved for most of it. He woke up very startled while we were in the middle of dinner and let out an awful scream. He then cried on and off a bit for a little while but I was able to walk around with him and rock him back to sleep and he slept in his pram until we left. One of the groomsmen was fiddling around with his speech and there was this big silence while we were waiting for him to gather his thoughts when Deacon let out a cry. Everyone started laughing and saying that that was a sign for him to "get on with it".
As for baby weight, I have been about 5-6 kgs heavier than when I fell pregnant since I came home from hospital and haven't been able to drop anymore since. I also have not really been trying too... I must try and get my butt in gear to go for more walks or try to get to a class or two at the gym once our busy next couple of weeks are over with.
Hope you are all having lovely weekends. I won't be able to have a chance to pop back in for a couple of weeks, so I'll chat to you all when I'm next able to.

Hi All
Peanutter, we have our air at 23 degrees (Queenslanders can't stand anything remotely cool!) and then Aly wears a singlet, short suit (short arms, no legs), T-shirt & long pants; She has a flanelette wrap (which is only very loose) & then a polar fleece blanket. Her arms are always out & always feel cold. It sounds like a lot of layers for the temperature, but she is never overly warm to touch & sleeps all night. I feel the cold a fair bit and sleep in layers, plus the doona & air, so I just base her on me. The hospital always said to us dress yourselves then add a layer for her.
Sounds like everyone has had a great weekend. Dress shopping today - here's hoping I can find the dress like is in my head. Bet you I won't, whenever I go out looking for a specific thing I can never find it.
