Hi everyone!
Just popping in while I have 5 seconds...feel like I might be surfacing lol! Life with a 16 month old and 8 week old is full on! Have settled into a sort of routine which seems to be working out ok...DD2 is sleeping from 7pm till about 1am for a feed then getting up at 5am so getting some sleep at last. Off for needles tomorrow..ouch...I know I will cry more than her...Im still so emotional.

Quick question, my boss has asked me to come back to work one day a week already, plus do about an hours work from home each day. I have been there 10 years and they know how important having a baby was to me, I kind of feel like I should be accepting, but the main part of me says that this is ridiculous given that Alyssa is only 8 weeks old. What do you think? This is definitely not what I planned and it kind of makes me angry. The reason they want me back is because one of the girls has resigned & its the age old, no one else knows how to do the stuff........ I'm really torn, mostly though I believe their request is unreasonable and I should be given my time off without drama.
Trust you are all well & not too cold. It is freezing here in "Sunny" Qld.

I went back to work when ds1 was 12weeks old, we needed the money so our situation was different to yours. I also went back 2 days a week. Going back so early was my biggest regret. I burned out. For me this meant I had to leave home at 6:45am to drop ds1 at my mums or mil's then drive into the city. I finished at 5pm so by the time I picked him up and got home it was after 6pm. I felt pulled in every direction when all I wanted or should have been doing was spending my time learning how to become a mum and enjoying my new little man. I ended up on anti-depressants and not in a good place.
This time, we've budgeted better and I'm not going back until ds2 is 9-12mts.
Anyway, back to your original question :) Personally I wouldn't do it. I think it is unreasonable of him to ask you. It's nice to be wanted/needed but you and your family needs to come first. In saying that though, if this is something you want to do then by all means go for it!
If it's a matter of feeling you 'should' do it, I'd think you'd burn more bridges saying yes then realising later it was not the right time for you to go back than you would thanking him for the offer but politely declining.

Thanks dudes for your sympathy! Spilled more milk again yesterday, but not as much (maybe 60-80mls) and coped *much* better.
sunshine – wow! That’s super early for rolling! Clever little poppet. Joshua is very varied as to whether he does or doesn’t like tummy time, but came close to rolling a few days ago – but still a little ways off, I think!
peta – I hope that Aly’s chucking has settled down. Any luck with the house hunting? Have you had a chance to start packing yet? Re going back to work, I’m going back full time in 2 weeks, but that’s what we always planned, so I’m fine with it. But I’ve got no idea how I’d be feeling if I was being asked to come back early... I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them to ask – but I think it is ok for you to say no!
mummytummy – prayers that your family are doing better health wise, and that the germies haven’t spread any further!
sharon – not sure if your bubba still has the snots, but we find that taking Joshua into the shower with us for a while works wonders – the steam just gets the snotties right out! Otherwise, I use an ear cleaner cotton bud to get any goobers out. The MHCN told me to squirt a drop or two of breast milk into his nose to clear it, but I haven’t found that to work. Re cots, we just put josh in his cot when we got home from the hospital. He’s very little in it, but we wrapped him up, tucked him in tightly, and he coped ok. I hope that logan does too! We’ve also tried out sleeping bags, which work fine too. But I let him sleep in his glider during the day, or on my lap, or in the baby sling, etc.
yules – back in singas yet? all ok?
poopies – Joshua has changed from doing a poo every nappy change, to now pretty much just doing one a day ... anyone else doing this?
toys – have anyone’s bubba started grabbing and playing with toys yet? We haven’t started yet, but he loves grabbing and holding onto mummy’s hair and clothes ... he also sometimes tries to grab and hold onto mummy’s nipple while drinking – which doesn’t work!
mothers groups – had the first meeting with the MHCN based mothers group – was quite nice, but not very social, more Q & A sitting in a circle, rather than meeting or talking with the other mums (and one dad) ... am hoping this changes, as a large part of my point for being there is to meet other mums, and make some local friends.
afm – well, Joshua is a little milky monster, and has stacked on close to a kilo in the last couple of weeks! He is feeding beautifully and generally sleeps a good 6 hours over night, and then another nice 3 hour nap which works quite well. The last couple of days though he’s been a little grizzle pot, and has not been happy unless being held for a lot of the day, and we’re not sure why ... I gather lots of babies have a fussy fest around the 6 week mark however, so hopefully it’s just that and he’ll phase out of it very very soon ... like now! We have our 6 week appointment today, so I might ask about that. It’s probably no where near as bad as it feels – but as we’ve previously been able to have him down for most of the day, it feels like a lot. Just makes getting the house clean trickier! But he’s such a good boy. And yesterday I just ended up feeding him a lot more than usual – not sure whether he was feeding for comfort, or whether he was just very hungry ... but there’s no harm in him getting more milk than strictly necessary, so we’ll just carry on as we have been.
Ellie Good to see you surfacing! I can only imagine how difficult it would be with a 16 month old and infant. Hats off to you lady! I can totally relate to routine 'sorta' too....Max certainly makes it hard for Darcie to get into any sort of routine. Then again, nothing is routine for us till we go back to Singa, so till then, I'm just rolling with it. Good luck with the needles...hope there aren't too many tears from either of you :)
Peta Given your initial reaction to your boss asking you to go back to work, I probably wouldn't do it. If you did, you would probably end up resenting them for asking in the first place IYKWIM. On the flip side, I know with Max there were times where I wished I did have something else to do....just to maintain that bit of 'me'. I would be having a big think about it. If there were maybe an opportunity to be guaranteed the same flexibility down the track, then maybe that could be an option to mention to your boss. If he turned around and said 'no can do' then I would say NO now. They have to appreciate that considering how much you wanted a baby, they can't be your first priority in life, and they can't guilt you into coming back because your replacement didn't work out. Good luck....let us know what happens....oh and winter....boy am I feeling it....I'm actually looking forward to going back to Singa for the warmth....but I know when I get there, I'll hate it!
Peanutter Poo frequency - YES! Darcies poops have decreased.....and when she does do them (or tries to do them), she is pretty unsettled, crying, red in the face trying to get it out. Maybe that is what is happening with Joshua as well and his grizzly/cuddly and extra feeding moments? Darcie hasn't started grabbing at toys yet, but she doesn't really have any! She grips onto my top more though and holds onto my finger pretty tight....Mothers Groups - While they are being held at the CHN I think they are pretty structured and run by the Nurse. Once you break away and start meeting at eachothers houses, things get a bit more personal and that is when the friendships start blossoming. I know with my MG with Max, those ladies are my bestest friends now.....I miss them a lot. Good luck at your 6 week check....make sure you come in and let us know how Joshua is coming along.
AFM Everything is going well....apart from when Darcie has her screamy moments (seems to be all about getting a poo out) crunching up the legs...poor little mite! Other than that I think she is pretty healthy and normal. I got some Infacol so will see if that helps with the air bubbles that seem to be getting stuck in her gut. My milk is so fast flowing and squirts that I think she is gulping a fair bit of air. Max is being super entertaining at the moment. Has been saying the funniest things. Just want to bottle up the things he says! I feel a bit sad that DH is missing out on them. He gets back here on the 21st July and we head back on the 26th. Darcie got her first passport (which is uber cute!) so we are ready to go. I am going to have to take back a couple of boxes of stuff with me, coz the amount of things I bought at the Big W and KMart sales won't fit in my suitcase! It's Max's birthday soon, that's my excuse! Oh...and I'll be checking out Target before I go too! I just have to organise Darcies needles then everything is sorted. What a whirlwind year! Can't wait for it to settle down, even just a little bit!
quick update - 6 week check went well. He's 5 kilos, and growing and developing in all the right ways :)
he's been a little screamer for thhe past few days though! doesn't want to get put down, feeding a lot, etc ... DH is coping well, but I'm concerned he might be getting concerned about what this will mean when I'm back at work. But hopefully, the extra crying is just a phase (growth spurt, etc) and will settle down now.

another update - this one about me!
I went back to the hospital today for a check up with the obstetrician and the physio to see how bits and pieces are doing...
the physio was very happy - lots of healing happening, and I'm now also allowed to do moderate (not just light) exercise, including abdominal exercises, which will help (as the more exercise, the more healing, meaning more exercise can be done etc - it's a positive circular thing!).
My fistula has shrunk to the size of a pin - which is very good. But I've got tissue coming through the stitches (called "granular tissue") ... because there shouldn't be any! believe it or not, my body is "over-healing" ... who would have thought! unfortunately, the over-healing is tissue poking through where the stitches are. this extra tissue needed to be removed, and the way they do this is by a chemical burn (ie: caurterising it off). So they were going to do it on the spot ...
I asked whether it was going to hurt, and they said it wouldn't. It started to sting though, so I told the ob that it was hurting, and they said it was ok.
The ob had felt some more granular tissue around the internal hole and he wanted to burn that off too, but needed to check with the specialist whether that was ok before doing it. So after he'd done the big cauterisation we were waiting (me still lying on the bed) for the specialist to be available for the ob to speak to him ... I started stinging quite badly, and not just where the cauterising was done, so I told the ob this, and he had a look, and (unbelievably) because he hadn't dressed the wound after cauterising it, or leaving it open, etc, the chemical was burning into my skin on the other side!!!
so he held the skin open for a bit, and then put something there to keep the chemical off the rest of me. I was not happy.
anyway, the specialist said that there should be no interference with the fistula until the surgery. so no more cauterising for me today.
it's still pretty uncomfortable, but not anywhere near as painful as it was after the birth ...
am looking forward for DH to be at home (picking him up in 2hrs) so I can have a salt bath and some pain killers!!
so the saga continues, but I'm able to be out and about, eating normally again, and little Joshua is doing fabulously :D
Goodness Peanutter - How AWFUL all the things your nether regions (and you) have been going through! I'm sending you loads of healing vibes (but not overhealing!)
I went for my 6 week check today too....allllll the way to my regular GP....to then have to wait an hour and a quarter for my appointment....blergh! Positive side is I had my pap smear and doc said I was in good nic down there.....and asked if I'd been doing pelvic floor exercises....I have and haven't.....so I'm pretty wrapped with that!
I have to go back there next week for Darcie's check and needles.....yucky!
I got to catch up with one of my mothers group friends this afternoon too....was great! Went past 'my' house too....felt sad but happy coz it looks so good....I love our tenants!
Better go....need to do a video call with DH and get dinner ready!
Wow - I feel soooo slack for not being in here for so long. So much happening.
Sounds like everyones LO's are doing well and everyone is getting needles etc now.
Sheriden has her checkup/needles tomorrow. See how we go, Jorja was great... :crossfinger: Sheriden is still rolling over - so wasn't a once off like I was hoping for. LOL She seems to be settling a little bit now. Still unsettled with the reflux but we are getting better. We have had her in bed with us quite a bit because i've just been so tired it's the only way to get any sleep.
We've moved into the new house now which has been great. Jorja has settled really well here and i'm LOVING it! Soooo much nicer!!!
In the process of arranging Sheridens naming day for August. I wrote the ceremony for Jorjas day but this time it seems soooo much harder!!! Thinking maybe a balloon release???
I've had a bit of PND which I have been struggling with atm. Started counselling now so hoping that things will start improving. Need to get out of the house more...there aren't any MCHN groups running in my area so i've been scouring all forums etc to find new groups of friends.
Well... i've got LOADS and LOADS of washing here to fold so better get to it before the girls wake up.

peanutter ive been thinking of you knowing you were heading back to work soon. id read somewhere that you are entitled to 2 30 min lactation breaks!!! did you know that?
hope all is well with everyone.... d had her needles yesterday and came out relatively unscathed.... just a bit of a temp last night.... nothing that panadol didnt fix.
DH is backtonight, it feels like forever that i havent seen him...back so singa on monday.....dread!

Peanutter - How are you feeling about going back to work? I know that this was always the plan, but just wondering how you are feeling now that the time is here? Especially with the big ordeal you have been/going through. Always willing to listen if you need to talk ;)

Not sure what else I have missed, so I will ask... how is everyone doing and how are your little ones?
We have been really busy doing this, that and the other. Emmelyn is doing really well and gives me virtually no trouble whatsoever. We had our 8 week checkup on Monday. She is now 5kgs, which is around 50th %ile on the scale, HC is around the 75th %ile but the strangest part of all is that she is 59cm long - 90th %ile. DH and I are on the lower side of average for height!! Someone has already made the comment on facebook that she is going to be taller than me by the time she is 2!! :rofl: I know it will all even out - she has probably just grown in length and now she is putting on the weight to match! She sleeps alot so cloth nappies are not our friend at the moment. She is still too small to fit in to the small MCNs we have, and because she sleeps so long, the newborn MCNs and prefolds we have just don't last the distance and we end up with leaks. :rolleyes: Oh well, at the rate she is growing it won't be long until she fits the MCNs. We also had needles on Monday night - Emmelyn was not impressed, but I wouldn't be either if someone did that to me while I was asleep too! No reactions otherwise though. The rotavirus oral thing didn't seem to affect her either. DH and I also had the whooping cough booster - my arm has been sore ever since!! Jett was the only one who didn't need anything!
Jett has become a challenge. This is probably a combination of the fact that he has a new sister, he has been sick and he turns 2 in two weeks. He still isn't bad, but he has suddenly become naughty, and he isn't a naughty child. Most of it I can handle but when he damages things or puts himself in danger I really feel at my limit. He put a dent in the fridge the other night with a potato masher! And he has taken to running off on us - as a joke. When he has done it in the shopping centres it is fine because we just watch him and tail along behind. What we would actually like to do is not follow him, because we are keeping his game going by following him. Problem is that when we try (we hide so he can't us but we can see him) people think he is lost and we have to reveal ourselves and so he never gets the opportunity to get frightened - he knows we are always there!!! And then twice now he has done this run away game (he looks at us, then laughs and takes off while watching us to make sure we follow) and gone to run on to the road. Scares the **** out of me I can tell you! I have one of those animal backpack/leads for him, but he just hits the ground and refuses to move if he thinks we are holding him back. So it isn't such a successful solution for us. Anyone else have any suggestions??
Ok, I am off. All I want to achieve today is to fold and put the clothes away before Jett gets home from childcare. So far I am losing the battle!! I look forward to hearing all your baby stories!

With jett i wouldnt make it ok anywhere to let him go on alone.....shops or otherwise....that might make it confusing for him. maybe try and make a game or fun out of sitting in a trolley? or reward him with a $2 ride if he walks nicely with you honding hands? not really 100% as max doesnt want to walk with or without us!..... he wants a trolley or stroller or else we have to carry him as he would refuse to walk coz there are "too many peoples" i turned a trolley into a train the other day ppl thought i was mad!!
so glad to hear E is going so well, what a bum about leaky nappies.... knew there must be a downside to a good sleeper lol!

well im doing well!!
had a scan on wednesday and OB appt yesterday and things are looking good!
my cervix has grown again, god knows how or why, but im now over 4cm whixh my OB is stunned about out!! lol.....
the stitch is in a great spot according to the scan so i think my OB's ego is growing!! :rofl: so it shoudl he did a amazing job!
it is now confirmed we are having a wormette!!!!!
so looks like ill be living in a sea of pink and dolls!!!
we do have one slight issue, a grade 3 planceta previa which ive know about since 12 weeks but its not showing any signs of moving just yet so we are now watching that, not overly concerned just yet have got time for it to move if it choses im not overly concerned if it doesnt. if a CS is what we have to do so be it, as long as she is here safely thats all that matters!!!

Life has been crazy busy here. Aly is doing really well. She has slept through the night 4 nights in a row now, so that is very nice. Glad to hear all your littlies are going well & growing. I still find it funny how much extra help you get offered by strangers when you have a baby or pram in tow. Its really nice & very gratefully accepted, I just never noticed it before.
Yules, back to Singas tommorrow. Have a great trip & I hope Max & Darcie go well in the plane It must be good to see hubby again.
Miskilla - how are you, Taz, Jeremy & Zarlen going? Here's hoping he is still going well & not keeping you up too much.
MT - sounds like things are a bit busy at your place. Here's hoping Jett stops running away from you. That would be scary. Glad to Emmelyn is doing well.
Crumpet - CONGRATS on PINK!! I can't believe you are 16 weeks already. Totally agree with you on the CS Vs VB scenario. As long as she arrives safe & well that is the most important thing. I hope you are going well with the pregnancy.
Sunshine - we too are organising Aly's Baptism. Her's will be mid-September. I am so looking forward to showing her off to all our family & friends (Again...).
Peanutter - I hope you are enjoying today with Joshua. I'm sure your DH will do a superb job with Joshua when you return to work tommorrow. I decided not to go back to work yet, instead I log in from home & just go into the office when needed for an hour or so at a time. I feel much happier that way.
Anyway girls, I should be packing some more boxes - moving day is fast approaching!! Very excited to be heading to a new house in an area we have never lived before. Come on 26.08.10!!

AFM - Sheriden is going ok. Has a cold ATM and grizzly and grumpy. Feeding seems to have settled now which is good, though my (.)(.) are still killing me everything she feeds. Such a long bubba girl I had to drag out the 00 clothes!! Shes fitting into the small itti nappies now so i'm happy about that.
Jorja has been doing really well with her. Tries to pick her up and cuddle her like she does her dolls - gotta watch her cause she dropped her the other day ;0 ! DH and I had our backs turned for literally 30secs. DH turned around and Jorja had picked Sheriden up out of the bouncer, lucky she wasn't strong enough to get her completely up cause DH's reaction was to yell which frighten her and so she dropped her. Thankfully Sheriden was ok! Scary for all of us though! Needles went well. I should be sleep but am so not tired!
Should go and try.
