Hi all
Just a quick post as the girls are keeping me very busy. E is doing well and is much more settled than A was as a baby which is refreshing. I know it's early days, but I'm prepared for the 6 wk crying peak I think E is about 4kg now, so has put on what she lost and more in 2 weeks. She still looks tiny though and people keep commenting on how tiny she is. I think I must make small but dense babies because we had the same comments with A.
Tiff, sorry to hear about your grandad It's great that he got to meet Hadley though.
Sorry for no real personals, I'm finding it hard to keep up with all the posts, I don't know how you ladies do it! I did pick up on 7 hrs sleep though caplay! I am jealous! E's is a bit hard to get down for the first sleep at night (sometimes takes 2 hrs or so), but once she's there I normally get about 4 hrs of sleep from her which is nice. Things are still changing on a daily basis, but last night I fed at 7:30/8pm, she was asleep by about 8:30/8:45 then she woke at 12:30am (was awake for about an hr with wind/hiccups), 5am then 8am which I think is really good for just over 2 wks old! Touch wood we don't take a backwards turn. During the day she is feeding about every 3 hrs. I'm breastfeeding.
Sounds like all you mummies are doing a great job anyway, and these first few months are the hardest but once they're over you'll wonder where the time has gone. I hope your partners and families are telling you all how well you're doing!
pmccask - I agree, don't know how everyone else keeps up with posting! Sounds like E is doing really well with her feeding and putting on weight beautifully.
caplaylolmay - Hi and welcome! It's great to have a newbie in here; looking forward to getting to know you. A bit about me: Bosley is our first baby, I had an emergency c/s after labouring for 22 hours but all ended well. He was 6lb 7 oz born, so bigger than your bub was at 2 weeks (though still small according to everyone who sees him!). Oh, and I am extremely jealous that you get 7 hour sleeps!

Hi to everyone else. Sorry for the lack of persies, just too tired to write much more (I know I don't have to explain that to you ladies!).
AFM - We took Bosley to my work on Tuesday. He spent the hour long trip wide awake, just looking out the back window, then slept through the whole visit! We had lunch with a friend there (he peed through his nappy and on her lounge ), then he spent most of the trip home awake too! Can't believe how much he's changing - lots more awake time, and he can lie there for ages without crying, just looking around at the world. He's starting to make lots of noises that aren't grizzles or crying and is reaching out with his hand (he's gonna be a leftie!). He hasn't given us a real smile yet (but he gives us half smiles when he's in the bath) so am jealous that some of you are getting them!
We weighed him yesterday and he's gained 450g in 13 days! He's now 3.72kg and 51.5cm. Oh, and he has a big thinning patch of hair on top of his head - anyone else's bub have this?
Bosley had his first night in his room last night and his best sleep for awhile too. He's been waking at 4ish and not really settling again for a decent nap until 10 or 11am, but this morning went straight back to sleep at 5am til 7. Yipee! Fingers crossed we get another good night tonight!
i was wondering are any of you having bubs in there own room
im thinking about moving scarlet into her own room into her cot to see if she sleeps better and so we can sleep better, as i wake and get no sleep from all the noises she makes during night, and troy is same wen he has her,
so do any of you have the bubs in there own rooms yet

Tiff - Welcome back, glad to hear everything went well with funeral......well as good as can be under the circumstances. I agree the funerals always seem to go better than expected, think it's the emotional buildup before hand.
Caplay - Sorry to hear about your MIL, I lost my dad in January. Alycia is our first baby, she was induced 10 days early due to reduced movements (why I'm a stalker in here ) and arrived after 5hrs 9 mins.
A big hello to everyone, hoping your little ones are all happy & healthy and you are enjoying all your baby cuddles.
Well A has been a trooper travelling, she slept from Adelaide to Horsham which is about 4.5hrs from Adelaide had a feed stop & nappy change then she slept till we got into Melbourne to do some shopping at a DFO - had a feed there and then lasted till we got to my MIL's down in Trafalgar. Thought she might be bit of a nightmare being in a strange bed & surroundings but so far so good, Colic is still being an issue but if I keep on top of drops she's a bit better and settles, well settles better than the screaming episodes that have been lasting ages the previous couple of days.
A has been in her own room & cot since we brought her home and sleeps in there for both her day time & night time naps when we are at home. She makes so much noise in her sleep I'd never get any sleep if I she was in with us. Her room is really close to ours and we can hear every noise she makes from our room, so don't even use the baby monitor.
wow ok yea see scarlets is right next door also,
how does she sleep in there, im thinking she may sleep better in there, hayley was in our room though till she was about 10 weeks old, but scarlet is 4 weeks old so i thouight might be to soon
Traylee - As I posted yesterday, B has just started going in his own room, still in the basinette though. We started putting him in there for day sleeps a few days ago to get him used to it but he's been no trouble and in fact has settled/slept better (that may just be coincidence!). And DH and I have slept sooo much better (DH sleeps through the monitor, even though it's right next to him and turned up full volume! ).
Phoenix - A sounds like she handled the travel really well! Sorry to hear the colic is still an issue though. We seem to have lucked out with B and colic so far - we've had a couple of episodes, but nothing too bad . Do you think the drops make a difference? What's in them? B is always unhappy until he does a fart or poos though - a massage or 'colic hold' helps a bit but sometimes he takes ages to get it out!
AFM - B slept again after his 4:30am feed (Well, from 5:45am) and didn't wake til 8:30am! And...
DH and I got our first real smiles this morning!
Question for bfers: How are your bb's now? I realised this morning I haven't used the Lansinoh all week, though my nipples are still really sensitive. I still leak though and get really sore and hard if B doesn't feed for awhile. I heard that they 'settle' after awhile, but no sign of that here! B is still up and down with feeds though - sometimes 2.5hrs, usually around 3 hrs, and around 4 or 4.5hrs at night. Sometimes he takes one side but usually both. I assume all this is normal - what about everyone else?
I have a quick question for everyone What have you been dressing your bubs in in this cold weather??(bonds suits, fleecy,etc) how many blankets do you have on them etc??? been 7 years since i had a winter baby last 2 been in the summer just curious to know thanx in advance.
I will pop back later for personals sick toddler and newborn busy morning.
Traylee - another one who has bub in his own room, he has been in there since Day 1...well day 3 when we came home from hospital. I was a little scared at first as the midwife at the hospital said I would be up and down like a yo-yo to him...but touch wood the most I have been up to him is 4 times in one night and 2 of those were for feeds and the others due to wind...as soon as he brought it up he went back down. I swear heaps of my friends think I am so hard arse having him in his own room, but whatever works for you. To be honest I can still hear him in the monitor so I am not worried about that, the monitor has been turned down the past couple of nights as I found it was too loud and could hear him farting and what not a bit too much and feel ok about having it turned down. I can hear him crying from our room without the monitor on anyway...just gives me peace of mind!
I was just putting him up there in the night but he is now going in for his morning and midday sleep. His afternoon sleeps I am trying to get him to sleep somewhere else ie swing, playmat, on the couch next to me but am struggling a bit. We are attempting to follow a routine and have Tizzy Halls book Save our Sleep (sorry for all the gentle parenting mumma's who dont agree with routines) and she recommends this so they get used to going to sleep in places other than the cot. To be honest we are struggling a bit as she recommends not to swaddle and DS wakes himself up all the time. I also have the Baby Love book which I refer to for whether things are normal. I admint I am a mumma who likes to know what is coming next and it seems so does our little man. And also I am hoping he gets the hang of sleeping through sooner rather than later....I realised this morning I only have 7 weeks before I have to go back to work....it is going too quickly! I am envious of anyone who gets to be a SAHM!
im not fussed during day sleeps, she sleeps on couch next to me while im on here or cleaning or wateva,
i prefer not to have them in a room during day as my aunt did this for all her daughters sleep, her daughter always went into the cot, and then never slept anywhere else but the cot, even at other peoples houses during night f they went out or anything so she would always leave, hayley slept on couch durig day also or floor as she rolled lol, and in room on a night and she slept anywhere and stll does she was great so i wanna stick with same kinda thign (doesnt mean scarlet wll be same though)
troy still thinks scarlet to young for own room, but i shouldnt complain im only trying to help him since he has her 90% of the time on a night in his room lol
Traylee- P sleeps in our room. She starts the night in her cot but usually ends up in bed with us at some stage. I couldn't imagine putting her in her room yet - she just seems too little to me. I will prob move her around 6 months. During the day, she sleeps wherever. Just curious do you and Troy always have separate rooms or is it only while you are recovering from surgery?
Caplaylolmay - Phoebe wears babysuits or normal clothes, ranging from cotton to fleecy depending on how cold it is. She also has two piece pj's for bed as I find it easier to change her in those at night. She always wears a singlet or singlet suit under too. I wrap her at night in a flannelette wrat and she has a sheet on her bed folded in two and a blanket folded in two.
Super - I have save our sleep too, but havn't read it yet. I will get around to it!!
Phoenix - Sounds like you have a good little traveller! Glad you are having a good trip.
We have just had a day at home. P has wanted lots of cuddles, which is lovely and T has just pottered around playing and watching a movie. Really should attempt to do some cleaning though!
ok, round two of the personal posts (fingers crossed internet does not drop out on me AGAIN!!).
Caplay - welcome! Zen is my first and I would say only bub, he took us 6yrs to have with quite a few hiccups along the way. Labour was vb, spontaneous. started with 1/2hr contractions 6.30am-11.30am then went straight to 5min apart. got check up at 3pm at local hospital to be told fully effaced but only 2cm and would be a while. At 4pm decided I wanted drugs, went to Ipswich hospital, arrived in emergency carpark 5.10pm, in birth suite and being looked at at 5.18pm, waters broke 5.20pm and Zen arrived 5.36pm
Phoenix - was about to whinge about Zen crying last two days from about 8am-3pm (unless feeding basically) then read you are having colic issues hope it all settles quickly for you.
Traylee - we have a mobile home that we built an extension on so because it makes it split level with two sets of stairs we are currently using the sofa in teh lounge (plus its next to the open fireplace!) and Zen was in the bassinet in his room (off the lounge) but we now use the bassinet in his pram so it can be propped up and it is easier to swaddle him and not have him wake when he startles as it is a more snug bassinet. I also let him sleep in his bassinet during the day, or in my arms, or on the couch we do alot of visiting, travelling, camping etc so want him used to a variety of sleeping places.
JLeigh - nope, sorry, Zen has a heap of hair, but blonde so not overly noticeable. its rather common for them to lose hair ina patch. (or so Im told).
Tiff - sorry to hear about your GD, happy that he got to meet your latest addition first though.
SSM - oh no, I dont know how you could manage going back to work - the very thought makes me want to cry with tiredness! I am lucky that I can do the stay at home thing. In fact, with the cost of childcare and with living rurally, I would need to earn at least $1000wk to make it worth me going back to work!otherwise I will just sit at home and get the allowance paid to parents who do that (no, not the single parent payment!)

AFM: Zen is having really unsettled days but the upside is that he is settled for the afternoon and evening. It feels a little stressful during the day for me but I presume (pray!!) it is a faze and he will grow out of it. Had midwife checkup yesterday. After putting on 230g in the first 11days he only put on 20g in the last week :O we will wait till next week and see how he goes. he eats well and regularly so midwife was not concerned.
people were discussing nookie: me, I cant wait but it is still a little 'messy' for us to do that...we are going the condom route as well while I BF as I looked up as much info as possible on birth control and its the only one that doesnt pass through to bub. Stupid yucky things...cant remember the last time i used them!But REALLY dont want number two on the way so 'tarp up' is the house rule
marnicat, no we always separate rooms lol, well we never use to, but last few years we have, just makes it easier, i snore and move around in my sleep and he breathes heavy and annoys me, so its easier this way, alot of couples do it now as is easier on you so you all sleep well and stuff, i dunno just works best for us lol, sounds like we r old married couple, (oh wait we are lol)
we have been together 13yrs now lol along time
on a good note we get to visit each other lol, we have our own separate space, he has his pc in his room so doesnt keep me awake
Caplaylolmay - B has been getting around in Bonds Wondersuits, or the equivalent in other brands - always with a singlet though. He gets wrapped in a muslin wrap and has a blanket (doubled) for day sleeps and a flannelette/warmer wrap and doubled blanket at night (though we have the heating on at 20 degrees at night so it's not that cold. Hope your little ones are alright...
Traylee - The separate rooms sounds like a good idea - my parents used to be in separate beds in the same room but now mostly sleep in different rooms. DH and I have been together 13.5 years too (feels like forever!)
TinaR - Don't worry about Zen not gaining, I'm sure he'll catch up! Sorry you're having unsettled days - I'd be exhausted after a day of grumbles! PMSL at the 'tarp up' comment! I asked DH what he wanted to do about birth control and he said with our odds of conceiving we probably don't need to do anything plus would it be so bad if we had another one straight away!
Marnikat - Hope you resisted the urge to clean and enjoyed your day of cuddles with your girls!
SSM - 7 weeks isn't long at all! Are you going back full time? I don't even want to think about work at the moment, but have to decide if I'll go back next year (though only 1 day/week).
I hadn't even considered trying to get B to sleep in different places - we just wheel the bassinet wherever we want it (or he sleeps in our arms occasionally). I can see the merits of getting him used to sleeping in different places though, so will have to try it.
with u wheeling the bassinette round we use to do same with hayley, this one doesnt have a holder so we put it on ground raised up with the books one end, or in my room its on a toybox lol,
but yea sleeps in lounge during day, where i am, its good, with you wheeling it around u will find that helps cause there is noise, and if they get use to noise now that helps them sleep anywhere to i find, so its good to be noisy and get them use to it now lol
Tina - Happy Birthday!!!! I hope that you had a great day and Zen was a good boy for you! As for contraception I think we will prob use the mini pill cause we 'forget' with the condoms...
JLeigh - I got the house clean when P actually let me put her down to sleep. I feel better now.
Traylee - I hope I didn't come across as it being a bad thing, I was simply curious. I've quite often wished that DH slept elsewhere but we don't have a spare room so it wont happen!

I have already forgotten who is what i so I'm going to reply in subjects today, hope you don't mind!
Contraception - When the time comes we'll be going back to condoms. I don't like using anything that keeps me from getting a regular AF (ie injections, implant, IUD etc), I NEVER remember to take the pill and it also keeps things a little cleaner.. IYKWIM
Clothes - I have been putting H into wondersuits at night and during the day a lighter all-in-one suit or pants and top, although today was a lot cooler than it has been so put her in a fleecy outfit, then I didn't have to use a blanket while we were inside. Also at night I use a double thickness flanlette wrap that it quite big so gives her a few layers when she's completely wrapped.
Travelling - H is a great traveller!!! I am so happy about that as T is also great in the car and we go to SYD so much (which is a 4 hour drive) I really need the kiddies to travel well. I only had to stop once on my way and from SYD the first time, then one stop on my way back down, but on our trip home she was having a very unsettled afternoon so we got half way before she woke, then just didn't settle for the rest of the trip and still didn't settle for a few hours after I got home, but I figure we're all entitled to a bad day!
Smiles - I hope you're enjoying beautiful smiles from your little people... The bubbies that are a little young, I hope you get your smiles really soon! H has such a gorgeous smile, I will never get sick of seeing that smile!
Bedroom arrangements - H is back in her own bed now which is in her own room. She only gets in with us for her morning feed, which is lovely as when T wakes we have family cuddles before starting our day (we've always had the same morning routine, just great to have another little one to share it with!).
DTD - Hmmmm I really don't feel like it, but I do want to get into the swing of things sooner rather than later as I think poor DH is thinking things are going to end up the way they did after I had DD#1 (due to the extensive damage I sustained during her birth we couldn't really DTD for about 12 months!!!). Things are nothing alike this time and I know in just a couple of weeks we'll be right as rain to get back to having some adult cuddles. I just need the 'all clear' from my OB with all the 'retained product'.... Also I haven't stopped bleeding yet so, hmmm not nice!!!
Well I hope I have covered everything. Nothing to report here, alls well.

I like the way you posted Tiff - makes it easier to reply that way, cos I have been reading, just not posting, o never get the time. So busy all the time. As I'm sure you all are, and don't know how you're all keeping up!
As for E sleeping, this will be his second night back in his bed, which is in our room still, it's just easier for feeding as he wakes every 3 - 4 hours. So far so good. Plus it's nice to be able to move in bed, and not worry about squashing E or waking DH during feeds so much.
We haven't been able to DTD yet, as I'm still bleeding - just a little mostly during the day now. I want to, and DH is climbing the walls...lol. Hopefully by the end of thus week we'll be ok. We will be using condoms, I don't like artificial hormones, they make me moody and gain weight. Plus I forget to take the pill. Lol. DH wants to get the snip, but I can't see him doing much about it....he doesn't really like doctors.
I have been putting E in wonder suits most of the time, unless we are going out. He is usually wrapped in a blanket, and at night have been covering him with 2 - 3 blankets. Plus the one he is wrapped in, it's getting colder lately.
He gets bathed every second day, as it's too much to do it everyday plus he doesn't really need it everyday.
