Alison - I'm not going on any more pills, Eden is our last bub so DH is getting the snip. Between children though we just used condoms, cos quite frankly the frequency of sex after children wasn't enough to warrant protection for the entire month... rofl

We have bought pressies for Ruby for Christmas. We got her a portacot, dolly, a couple of rattles, a fisher price mail box toy thingy and a clothing parcel. Santa is getting her an activity tray centre. We figured her birthday is so far away that she will need toys for during the year so we may as well use Christmas as the time to get them. Plus our other 2 kids will wonder why she didnt get anything.
Mon- You changed your name again!! I am loving the photos you are posting on FB, they look awesome! Is Mally at primary school next year?
Snowy- lol about the listeria. I ate heaps of brie cheese today and finally had a choccy sundae from maccas the other night. The cheese was yummy but the sundae actually wasnt that great... Glad to hear the family is doing well.
madame- Glad you could find the time and energy to get online to the most important people!! Sounds like you are doing well, Tullys behaviour is completely normal so dont worry too much about it xx
billy- I am jelous of your sleeping baby! That is so great for you though, makes life much easier.
Alison- Ruby has been coming into bed with us nightly the last week or so cause it is the only way I can get some sleep overnight. You will always get advice from different professionals but ultimately it is up to you what you do and ho you parent your child. If it works for you to have her in bed with you then do it (but of course I reccommend taking on board what Snowey said re- drugs, alcohol etc). You sound like you are doing a fantastic job xxx
Natty- Ruby isnt too thrilled on the dummy but once she starts sucking she keeps it in for a while. I just hold it in her mouth until she starts sucking on it. She sometimes cracks it and pushes it out with her tongue, then I know she really doesnt want it but mostly she is happy to have it. I cant have her sucking on my boob all day just for the sake of it. Sounds like you are adapting to motherhood really well too xx

AFM- We've had a busy few days with 3 Christmas parties this weekend. Ruby is over it and just wants to be at home. We need to go to the shops and Dr's tomorrow but otherwise will be home. Poor little thing has conjunctivitis, well I think it is. Her eyes are always gunky with yellow and she gets stringy bits on her eyelids. I bought some saline solution from the chemist and have been cleaning her eyes every couple of hours. Im hoping it clears up cause she is too little to have antibiotics yet....
I tried to upload some photos on FB, hope it worked.... Im a bit challenged in that area lol!

We havent bought Abbey anything for Xmas....I have a voucher at a baby shop that I need to spend so I figure that I'll just wrap up whatever I get from there....cheating a bit as it's not technically from us but oh well.....
Ubba - Abbey has had gunky eyes as well....JD brought home conjunctavitis from kindy last week and we were given these wipes from the chemist called 'Little Eyes' and they have been working great - both of their eyes have cleared up nearly completely now....we used saline for JD as he had a blocked tear duct not long after he was born and it was good too, but these other wipes have stuff in it especially to clear things up....
Alison - I was told the mini pill as well but I dont see my Dr until Feb...I guess we'll just use condoms (hate the thought of it too though) although DTD is not the most important thing on my mind at the moment....I would prefer to just roll over and sleep for more than 2 hours straight at the moment!
Billykat - Very jealous of you having hubby home for that long....my DH is on contract at the moment so he only gets the PH's off and he also works at the hospital on w/ends so I havent had him home for the last 2 weekends....at least he is off on Xmas though...we are in a small country town so he has to take the work while it's there...
Snowy Love - I know what you mean about the listeria thing!! I missed soft serve ice cream soooo much while I was pregnant....everytime I get to the shops now I go to Wendy's and get one....it's so good to be able to have stuff like that again!
Arimeh - Abbey is doing the same with the holding while she sleeps thing....she has had bad wind lately too and yesterday I think I spent nearly all day on the lounge with her and when I got to putting her in her bassinet she would only last 20 min's or so....so frustrating!! I am going to have to use all my willpower and stay off the chocolate as I think that is what was doing it to her....I have finally got her sleep on our bed at the moment so I should be using my time wisely and showering etc.....it's nice having cuddles and all but I cant stand my house being in dissaray either....
AFM - Pretty shocking nights the last 2 have been with not settling for long periods of time....my boobs are sooo sore even with the nipple shield and it's painful against my bra or shirt....probably because she is attached to them so much??? Hopefully with me not eating chocolate today I'll see a difference in her wind and she'll settle for me a bit better....

Shayna - ahhh I'm hearing you on the feeding pain and the wind!! We must have identical babies ;) I'm nearly ready to give up bfing - hard when all I'm used to is FFing my kids, but I did want to make an effort with E. So I thought I would express as much as I can during feeds to make a middle of the night bottle - since thats our worst feed by far. Only got about 40mls expressed so far, but its hard with two other small children, have to do it in small spurts when I get the chance...lol
So cranky though cos she vomits most of what she takes in, so she's not gaining weight and certainly not as settled as my other two were. Plus DH is pressuring me to give it up and just bottle feed... arghh so hard!
Sorry bout the little pity party I just had. Sometimes parenting just sucks.

DH is supportive - he just doesn't like to see me upset and frustrated and getting mad at DD2. He knows that I had a hard time bonding with DS because of feeding issues - and doesn't want this last experience to suck for me cos of more feeding issues. So his lack of support is actually concern and care for me - as much as a male can show I suppose. I know where he is coming from anyway.

hey everyone!! DS was born on the 24th of November, 9pound 10, 4 weeks old tomorrow - holy crap!
we had a appointment with the MW today, he's put on 210 grams in 1 week. I thought it was great but after just reading all of your posts i'm starting to wonder if its enough?? He had a bit of drama, when i took him 1 week ago he was still 100 grams under his birth weight. what do you all think?
might make some of those cookies ithink, get this milk pumping~!!!!
Go for it with the pity party - it is freaking hard sometimes so dont worry about that!!
I didnt imagine it would be this hard and I've only got 2!!! I'm hoping that JD will grow out of his behaviour at the moment as it's not good and I'm sick of yelling at him about nearly everything....
JD was FF and I understand what you mean about giving up BF....it would be easy, but like you I want to try and make a go of the BFeeding this time around, so just see how it goes....either way you know they are going to be OK!!
I try to express when I can and I havent been getting as much as I used to...sometimes only 30 - 40ml out of each side at a time, but at least it makes a bottle for DH to give her so we can have a break hey!

Arimeh- BF can be really frustrating and as far as im concerned you have given it a really good go. If it is affecting your relationship with your daughter then maybe you can think of going to FF. I know you are expressing for that middle of the night feed, see how that goes, otherwise you might be able to give formula for that feed??? You need to think of number one xx
JD- Is your DD attaching properly? You may have grazed nipples. My DD is feeding every 2-3 hours and my nipples arent sore, when my DS was a baby My nipples were so so sore because he wasnt getting enough breast in his mouth. Maybe you can see a lactation consultant for some help/advice.
I need to finish wrapping pressies while Ruby is asleep and it is still a reasonable hour lol

Hi all this will be quick and a bit selfish sorry ...
3 sils came to visit from melbourne. they are awesome and all good help so no dramas at all but i felt a bit "watched" and a bit embarrrassed when v wouldnt stop crying...having said that they are the ones i would like to help me as they are just so great and houghtful and would do anything i asked..sil cleaned my bathroom...yay!
v is still doing the evening mental period sil1 thought it might be a sore bum cos v poos a lot so am putting curash nice and thick...it all seems ok down there so thats ruled out. but it has improved the last 2 nights with the sling and the swing...see below...
We got v a fisher price swing which helps keep her asleep in those fussy times as it was doing my head in in the evenings...friggin expensive and i was initially hesitant but it has paid itself off already!!!! the sling was working and still is but i need to be able to put her down which the swing lets me do...its early days but she has slept in it and will stay in it while awake for longer than anything else i have tried (bunny rug, bouncer, pillows, etc...) like a few of you i am trying to deal with the needing to be held constantly and it seems only i will do...
Anyhoo i said it would be selfish lol....oh also my sils brought heaps of baby gifts from all the extended fam so v got spoilt lol

Hi Natty - we got a Fisher & Price Swing too yesterday, is it the one with the birdies on it in blues and yellows and reds? I'm hoping that helps me with Amelia too, she seemed to enjoy it today!
AFM - apologies if I asked this already, has anyone been given the mini pill by their OB? He gave me a script before I left hospital - I didn't ask for it - but I'm not sure I want to take it. I'm supposed to start today and picked it up but can't bring myself to do it. I was on the normal pill for 20 years before giving it away and I don't know enough about the mini pill to want to take it yet. A friend of mine told me it made her depressed and ruined her milk supply so not sure if I should wait until I see the OB for my 6 week appointment. I just don't know what to do!!!!
Alison- i wasnt given any contraceptive when i left hospital and wont discuss it with my dr until my 6 week checkup. like you were saying in an earlier post, age isnt on your side and you and dh are planning on having another sooner rather than later. Do you have a regular cycle? If I was you I would just be careful around O time until you want to fall preggers again - or if it happens then it happens!! Like you also said, you dont want to wait around for the hormones to leave your system.

natty i'm glad v likes her swing, we got theo one when i was still preggers, and he's not that keen... all that money down the drain! hahaha. I know what you mean about your sils 'watching' you. it can feel a bit uncomfortable can't it! but if they've had kids i'm sure you were worrying for nothing x they've been there - experienced that - and know exactly what its like!
ali - have you used your baby bjorn yet? i've been using my old one sooo much lately, its really handy when shopping with a toddler and a newborn! thinking about upgrading to the baby bjorn - just wondering on your experience!
arimeh your doing a great job with the BFing. Remember they dont gain as quickly when breastfeeding. is she above her birthweight? theo is only 100grams above his, and 4 weeks old today, which was worrying me, but the ladies in the breastfeeding threads helped put my mind at ease. If she looks healthy, and you're enjoying breastfeeding, do whats right for you. personal questions - haha , seeing as you were my 'perry massage buddy', lol, did you end up tearing? i did... 2nd degree, whoopsie! obviously didn't do that massage often enough! :rolleyes:
okay, gotta go put dd down for her nap, then wake theo - tag team! gotta love it!
PMSL!!! I forgot about being peri massage buddies.. ROFL!!!!!! Um we didn't do it THAT much because I hated the feeling of it, and it just freaked me out a little - so we quit it a few weeks after starting it - and I only had a minor first degree tear to the peri - that didn't need stitching so I was happy with that.
We have one of those fisher price swings too - hahaha!! Must come standard or something ;)
Oh - and about the baby bjorn - please consider getting another sling that is actually friendly to the baby's spine - cos the bjorn puts pressure on bubs spine as they just sorta "hang" there - something like the Ergo, close carrier etc - supports bubs spine - the ergo is actually recommended by chiropractors so its a good one. Plus you can use it till they're like 4 or something, so you get more use for your money ;) Excellent resale value too :D I'm not going to lecture though about slings, just do some googling about the different slings and what they do to bub before making a final decision (please?)
As for us - Eden has been a MUCH more settled bub today. I went to the LC yesterday, got a perfect latch, but then she said that I might have a low supply, she might have reflux - might might might - lots of mights - so I came home, she couldn't attach (typical!) and then was acting like I had no milk, so I gave her what I had expressed earlier that day - she drank 120mls - and then fell asleep till 3am!! Then DH fed her, and I went and expressed more.
She has been sleeping and eating today - no more grizzles, no needing to be held at every second - I even prepared dinner for cooking earlier!!!! Amazing! So looks like we will be expressing and doing top ups if necessary. My LC is happy with this, she doesn't puke as much if fed by a bottle, so I have hope that she will gain weight now. Telly - she has only JUST hit her birth weight now, but her gains have been slow (ie, 70g in 12 days, 30g in 5 days) so its cos of all her chucking apparently she's not getting much so anything that makes her spew less, I'm a fan of. Plus I have so much washing building up its not funny!!!!
Oh and Ali - yeah like I said before - not enough sex to warrant going on the pill. But that could be cos DS has been co sleeping with us for ages now so we don't actually get a chance to DO anything.. LOL
Hi Telly - I filled the script last night but decided not to take it hee hee - it was only $12.00 so not worried. I'm going to at least wait until I see the OB for my 6 week check....which is actually not until 5th Feb as he's away before that! Like you girls I don't think I can warrant it, I can't have sex until the 6 week mark anyway and quite honestly I'm with you girls, it probably won't happen often enough to warrant it, sadly ha ha!!!! It's been so long as it is I've forgotten how LOL. :o As for the Baby Bjorn, I haven't tried it yet, I can't until the 6 week mark because of the c-section, OB doesn't want me carrying any weight on my belly until then but my friend highly recommends it.....I can't wait until I can as it will be much easier when shopping etc.
I have to have a vent here, quite funny actually - for those who remember me talking about a girl from work who is due end Jan in our previous thread and does nothing but whinge about being tired when she only worked part-time (5 hours a day)....well she finished work last week as she's now 34 weeks pregnant. She's just emailed me and gone on and on about how exhausted and tired she is and is so glad she's finished work as she wouldn't be able to handle it and bla bla bla. All I kept thinking was, if she thinks she's tired and knackered now, imagine how she'll feel when the baby is born. I don't think she has a clue what to expect......she's never even held a baby until I had Amelia and I had to show her what to do hee hee. I think I feel a bit sorry for her as she's in for a shock. I'm only just getting used to it now and I was expecting it!
AFM - 3rd night in a row where Amelia woke every 3-4 hours so I'm hoping this is the beginning of something good. DH has been doing the 6.00 am feed with a bottle for me as I'm finding I'm too tired to BF, just can't physically wake up enough to even sit up in bed, anyone else experience that? He's still at work (grrrr) so has to get up anyway and he gets to sleep through the night better than me, I was up at 12.30 am and 3.30 am this morning feeding as it was...but Amelia did go straight back to sleep so that makes a big difference. Also, I got my photos yesterday that were taken at the hospital when Amelia was 4 days old, they had a photographer come around. She's done a lovely job, wasn't going to as it cost nearly $200 but glad I did. I got big ones, smaller ones which I've framed for our mums for Chrissy, a birth certificate type thing and some thank you card sizes. I also got all the pics on disc if I want to do more. I tried uploading them onto FB but keep getting error messages. I did manage one though, weird.

Ive heard a lot of mixed reviews about the baby bjorn - thats why ive been so hesitant, some people swear by them, some people swear at them, lol!! thats great that you didn't get a bad tear! i knew that i was going to tear, i could feel the stinging before the head was even nearly out, kept saying to the mw that i didn't wanna push cause it was stinging too much. ahh well, i'm all healed now and wouldn't know any different! I agree with the less spewing the better! Isn't it dissapointing when you give them a nice big feed, only for it all to come back up! grr! have you tried the tips in the breastfeeding threads to increase your supply (if that is even the problem, sounds like you're expressing enough!). I wanna give the biscuits a go, but its just so much easier to have a beer before bed (works wonders for me).
ali thats great that amelia had a good night, also great that you dh gets up to feed her! what a champion! my dh sleeps through anything, and i think he enjoys breastfeeding extra because it means he gets out of the late night feeds!! I'm hopeless at expressing, i get about 10 ml from each boob, i just can't do it - made it hard when dd started farex, poor thing had to have water with it -eeeww, as it its not gross enough!
Theo had a shocker of a night last night, i just couldn't put him down! at 2:30 i threw in the towel and put him in bed with me, he then snoozed away happily!!! typical male, loves boobs and his mum.

LOL Heavenly - you're still young, wait until you're my age...I never thought I'd say that but I think you do enough of it in your 20's so when you get older there are more important things to do with your time. Not that I don't enjoy it, just takes more effort that's all ha ha!
I only just got out of wearing the lovely surfboards about a week ago so there was no way I was DTD while all that was still happening down there...sorry, probably TMI!!! :redface:

LOL you girls are lucky, I still HAVE the surfboards, although think I'm nearly finished with them I hope, I HATE them! How long did you girls bleed for? I was hoping having the c-section would shorten it, it's been 3 weeks and looking like I might be at the end!! Bloody awful things, I feel like I'm wearing nappies myself!:o
Alison - with both my csections I bled for around 6 weeks (then got AF at 8 weeks yay for me) but this time round, I'm pretty much finished now, just stuff there when I wipe, so I keep the liner on just in case ;)
I thought mine had just about finished, only a little bit on the pad when I woke up this morning but as the day went on it is evident the bleeding is still hanging around grrr. I bled for 6 weeks with the other 2 but I dont think I will go for that long this time.
Mon- A week after the birth?? Wasnt it a bit 'messy'?
from that time i really only needed a panty liner wasnt much at all...every now and then i would need a tampon for the day but not much lucky i guess....
i have come to the realisation that serenity isnt hungry when she wakes all through the night just comfort feeding,the other night she lasted from 7 to 1:30 shame i was awake having drinks at my dads lol so i think im gonna try the dummy first b4 i keep putting her on the boob,i know sh will be hungry at some stage but i dont want it to be a habit

Attempted the xmas shopping today.... it went badly, very badly! Archie screamed and screamed so i managed to get a couple of things then i just turned around and came home!
With DD, I bled for three weeks then got AF when she was four weeks old! And she was fully BF so i dunno what happened there...
Darn it.. Archie just woke up and is now on my boob..I'll come back later on x

Hello to everyone else - had an ok night - woke DD2 up at 9.30 for a feed, then she woke up around 2am, then 6.30am - so not too bad. Need to up my supply though, this morning I have hardly managed to express anything - hard to find time with the other two running around my feet.
Got DH's work xmas bbq today so that should be interesting!! DS has been awake since 5.30 so he'llbe in a fine mood by this arvo I'm sure...lol

I have had shockers the last 3 nights.....I can hardly remember what times I was up, but I know I was....it all becomes a bit of a blur....
Abbey was up this morning for a feed from about 3:45 and didnt settle back down until just after 6am!! Freaking ridiculous!! She wasnt upset or anything, just not wanting to go back to sleep!! So I thought I may as well do something so I'm out the back like a crazy person hanging out loads of washing in the dark at 5am and cleaning up around the joint...also caught up on an episode of Survivor so that was good....
The interrupted / lack of sleep is killing me though....I always nearly pass out in the afternoons if I'm feeding her on the lounge at around 2:30 / 3pm as I can hardly keep my eyes open....no chance of catching up during the day for a decent amount of time with JD cruising around trashing the house etc....always have to have one eye open with that boy...
Anyway, selfish post....going to try and get a Santa pic with the 2 of them this afternoon so fingers crossed JD doesnt balk at him and refuse!!

I feel like i havent posted in here for ages, time just seems to be slipping by and I have days when I think it is all coming together then days when I wonder how it can be so bad..As I mentioned earlier I felt a bit stupid with my sil here who has had 2 kids..Has anyone else had ppl saying things like "why are you feeding so often? My kids never cried like that whats wrong with her etc..?" I questioned myself so much the other day I took her to the doctors to make sure nothing was wrong then started crying in his office. In a way I took her there so dh could see there is nothing wrong from the doctor as i feel like he doesnt have faith in me as a mum even though he says he does. He had the balls to ask me the other night did I mind if he called his sister to ask why she thought V was crying... I lost it at him and said if he would hold her for more than 5 minutes and try something while i go and have a **** that would be nice and how about we ring his other sister (who is a major hypochondriac) for a diagnosis aswell while we are at it lol...What is she going to say??? bum, hungry pain overtired etc which is all stuff I know...The fact is she gets ****ty at nights. Im the one who has to calm her so I dont know why he is so worried...grrrr....ok...breathe...
Jds mum, what does Abbey do when you do washing? does she hang out in a bouncer or on a rug etc? I hope the santa pic worked out we have been so slack and wont worry about it this year Im flat out trying to do a low maintenance chrissy for the in laws lol
Arimeh, Maybe try the beer thing, I have and it has helped a little, Im bad at expressing so I worry about my supply too. I can only get 40 ml out at a time usually both boobs combined but V keeps putting on 300ish g a week so is getting fed so there must be enough....

Kymmy my sympathies on Archie losing it isnt it horrible? V did it the other week we felt so bad and everyone looks at you like you shouldnt be out with such a small baby lol....This woman goes oh shes hungry and i had just fed her and i was like um no she is not and shes my daughter so i think i know so there...well i said that in my head lmao...
Heavenly how many drinks do you have? The other day i had 2 light beers which i loved... We dtd at about week 4 but it still felt a bit bruised and havent gotten around to it again although i keep having sexy dreams lol..
Alison and Arimeh its the cradle and swing. It can go side to side or front to back. Its brown, white and blue with big brown ears so it looks like she has big ears when she is in it lol and it is quite big but worth the extra peace and quiet even if it is 5 mins lol..Telly that sucks maybe later on it will be more appealing lol..
Thanks for listening on a brighter note v ddidnt cry at all last night but i wont get my hopes up....ill wait o see if she keep it up bfore i brag..She is now 3960g just over 1kg above birth weight....definately not hungry...lol

Natty - I definitely didn't have enough milk for her, she's only just reached her birth weight, so the LC said she is getting enough to sustain her (ie so she's not DYING) but not enough to actually gain weight and thrive.
We've been expressing what we can, but my supply has dropped dramatically now, so I only got 150ml for the WHOLE DAY yesterday. That's like, a little over one feed for her! She drinks at least 120ml now, so we are trying the reflux formula at the moment to see if that helps with the chucking, if not, we'll have to try another formula. I read somewhere that reflux is often associated with a cows milk intolerance? Not sure where I read that - but considering she always threw up when feeding from me (hence the low weight gain as well!) there could be something in it. We had DD1 on goats milk formula because she got horribly constipated on soy and cows milk formula - so we might have to head down that path with DD2 as well - which is expensive!!!!!
Oh and natty - nobody knows your baby like you do - just remember that :hug:
JD's mum - I have to keep an eye on DS all the time too ;) Plus he doesn't have a nap during the day, so no napping for me either!!! Although DD1 has never been a great sleeper and I've been coping on a max of 4 hours sleep a night for a long time now so I think my body is just used to it!!! Having said that, I did fall asleep on the couch last night (mind you it was around 11pm!) and didn't even know I had passed out until I woke up and DH was looking at me.. hahahaha.
We went to the shops today (crazy!!) after signing our mortgage docs at the bank for our new unit - DD2 was fine for a while, and then cracked up cos it was feed time, so DH fed her in the car whilst I took DD1 and DS into Coles (OMG CRAZY TOWN!!!).
Hmm.. DS is mixing chocolate milk and strawberry milk and drinking it out of the carton. I think its time to get off the computer. LOL

Hi Natty - you poor girl, that's horrible to have that from people, tell your SIL's to p off! I hate the way people give you their advice in a condescending way, you cop it when you're pregnant and now as a mum, it REALLY irks me! My family are pretty good actually - just as well as my sister's are 10 and 7 years older than me so they had their kids quite some time ago, they're all between 15 and 20 years old now! But mum tends to say the odd thing like when I pick her up if she's crying she might say, oh, she has you wrapped around her finger already cheeky girl. I'm like, no mum, they don't understand the concept of manipulation at this young age! She shuts up then. Yesterday I had my hair done and my mum and sister came with me and took Amelia for a nice long walk, I made up a formula bottle as I didn't have a chance to express first just in case she got hungry as I knew I'd be there when she was due for her next feed. Anyway, I usually only top her up with 40 mls or so from my boob but they gave her the entire 120 ml bottle! Of course she slept for the rest of the afternoon while at the shops but she did have her first vomit when she woke up, she obviously over ate! I think I have a piggy, she seems to want to be on my boob longer now.....I assume thats going to happen as she grows! I only managed to express 50 mls yesterday by the time I got home from being out all day so must try and do more today. I really feel bad giving her too much formula, not sure why really! Guess that's from having the nurses drum it into you which is silly really.
Anyway, I've got loads to do today, have to finish wrapping presents and start preparing food for tonight (at the inlaws) and my families Chrissy lunch tomorrow. It's hard doing all these things with one hand isn't it!!!!!
So, in case I don't get on again, have an absolutely fabulous Christmas my friends and hope you enjoy spending it with your littleons.

Well Im home alone, bored out of my brains! DP is at his work break up so wont be home till later. The housecleaner has been so the house is ready for tomorrow. We have DP's family coming over for brekky and we are all chipping in with the food. There is NOTHING on tv either :wall: So thought Id play on the computer, lol
Trent slept a record 9 hours last night..woo hoo!!! :dance: Im not sure if it was the heat or the thickened formula we are now using but it was GREAT :D He stirred a few times with wind, farted then went back to sleep, lol Im hoping this is a sign of things to come. I cant wait to spend our first Christmas with him tomorrow. I was feeding him yesterday and got all teary thinking about it. He is just so precious to me and he is the best Christmas present I could EVER ask for.
Am thinking of giving up bf as of tomorrow. My supply is so low that he drinks mostly formula now anyway. I just feel very guilty and once I give it up, I cant go back. I love the whole bonding it gives him and I but its all very time consuming for such a little amount. He is thriving on the formula and putting on lots of weight. My OB said the first 4 weeks is most important with bf and after that the nutrients he gets from bf is in formula. If he was totally bf, then I would keep up with it for both his wellbeing and cost wise too but he is maybe a 1/3 bf and 2/3 formula fed. Its a hard decision but with the hectic Christmas day and holidays ahead, bf is going to be harder and harder as I dont like doing it in public. Decisions, decisions.
Nat - I agree with Alison, tell you SIL's to p*ss off! First time mums arent DUMB and we have to learn things for ourselves and have our OWN instincts. Im lucky not to many people have given me there 2 cents worth, its only when I have asked for advice. You know your own baby and you just have to go with your gut. Every baby is different so you can ask others all you want, but its what works best for V and yourself. Your doing a GREAT job :D
Alison - Amelia seems to be going ahead in leaps and bounds! Dont worry, Trent is a little piggy too! Since changing him to the thicker formula, he's demolishing 150mls in like 10 mins :redface: We changed teats too which are for coelicky babies so we are hoping this helps. Arimeh - I have avoided the shops like the PLAGUE! Have heard how hectic they are. Hope the reflux formula helps your little one. The thickened formula seems to be helping Trent thank goodness. He's not as chucky.

We had the clinic nurse here today.. Archie has put on 740g since birth so that's awesome.. she does think that he might be suffering from silent reflux though as he is so unsettled, has anyone had any experiences with this? He feeds ALOT and won't settle unless he is in my arms (held in upright position), so he doesn't sleep much at all during the day as everytime i try to put him down he wakes up!!
Might have to do a bit of googling!

Tania, I found your post so interesting as I'm feeling the same, I am starting to wonder if Amelia is getting enough from my BF'ing and whilst I definitely have milk she seems to settle better at night when I've comp fed with formula. I too have thoughts of how much easier formula feeding would be, I don't like feeding in public either. I'm going to push a bit longer but if that's true about formula being just as good after 4 weeks perhaps I don't need to feel so guilty. Like I said, I will keep at it for as long as I can but I'm not going to feel guilty any more about doing the odd formula feed at night. I did read formula has vitamins (particularly D) that breast milk doesn't have so I'm sure it's not as bad as they make out. I will see how I go over the next few weeks.
How do you know if your baby has reflux? I know they are unsettled and scream/cry a lot, is that the only way of telling? Kymmy, I haven't heard of silent reflux either, might google out of interest. Amelia seems fine so far so fingers crossed she doesn't get it.
Anyway, must get back to wrapping the pressies, just fed Amelia whilst trying to each lunch, I've probably slopped my lunch all over her LOL!

Kymmy - my DD1 had silent reflux, she was really unsettled and such an unhappy baby - that never slept!! We treated her with infant gaviscon that the doc told us to, but then we were told that it is pretty awful for little ones, gives them constipation or something similar - not good on bellies apparently. So we treated her by taking her to a paed chiro for treatment there, plus we got homeopathic remedies instead of treating her with drugs - PLUS - we also put her on goats milk formula. All these seem to work a treat (especially the homeopathic stuff) and she is fine now (she's 16 months).
Alison & Miss Magpie - I've never heard about the 4 week thing and I'm guessing that if you posted that in the BFing section it would be shot down in flames (ie, so don't post a thread about it! LOL) I've always been for whatever works for the mother, and the family unit as a whole. I could probably build up my supply with more frequent expressing and things like that - but the fact is that I have two other kids that need their mum (especially my teething 16 month old!!) so DH and I usually talk about these things together and look at it from the family point of view. But I always think that if mummy is happy - bubby is happy ;)
Oh and I hope nobody takes my posts as being condescending if I express my opinion about things? Cos thats all it is, my opinion, or what worked for me - I never expect anyone to do what I do... lol.. hard to tell the tone of your post on here though I suppose.
Miss Magpie - I'm going to try DD2 on goats milk formula now, the reflux formula didn't make one iota of difference, she's still puking everywhere!!!! Plus the naturopath on the sunny coast told Craig that nobody should be drinking cows milk - we should all be on goats milk (yerrk dunno bout that!!) But its supposed to be more easily digested (and closer to breast milk) probably why its so friggin expensive.
Best be off again, DD1 is whinging (loudly) and DS is jumping all over the place cos DH is on the phone - and thats what they do!!! No wonder I never call any one.. :rolleyes:

Whoops sorry, missed this. Usually the classic signs are they pull on and off whilst feeding, they raise their knees to their chest and are very unsettled, you usually can't get a lot of sleep out of them, they usually wake up when you put them down, DD1 always made disgusted looking faces whilst feeding - she would have the stuff come up her throat and back down again etc.:
Silent reflux is all the reflux signs - but no chucking - hence the silent part. :)
I hope nobody else's bubba has it cos its not nice to see bubbas in pain like that :(
Hi Arimeh - thanks for that info on reflux! And I agree, best not post anything on BB about formula or we might get shot down in flames alright ! LOL I'll continue to BF for now and comp feed when necessary. Like you said, when mummy is happy, so is bubby and as long as they're getting food to grow that's the most important thing!
So what you're saying is we should all go buy a goat for Christmas and do the milking.......imagine that, from expressing our boobs to expressing a goats LOL! All the good stuff is expensive huh.........typical!
