Hi everyone! sounds like we are all busy enjoying our bubs.
Our beautiful girl Jasmine Eve was born on the 2nd of november, weighing 9lb 3oz, rather big for my first baby!. I haven't written a birth announcement or birth story yet but The birth went ok, I dialated very quickly, but the pushing stage was 3 hours, and I got a 3rd degree tear. She came out healthy, so we are happy.
Shes delightful!
so far shes waking for a feed every 3 hours through the night, and it varies in the day. Sometimes she has 3 hour sleeps, sometimes capnaps. There have been occasions when she stays awake for 4 hours,oopps... I think I was missing her tired signs? not sure. Shes a lovely baby and we are very happy.

DW gave birth to DD Mary on 2nd November 2009.
DD is still getting used to life outside and doesn't think she needs much sleep so at the moment trying to settle her can be a bit hard however besides everyone being tired we are just loving spending time with our new little bundle.
Jen, you poor thing, pushing for 3 hours and still getting such a bad tear....... I had a second degree tear and thought that was bad enough. Alyssa was an emergency vaccuum delivery in the end (which apparently wasn't very gentle) because we were both exhausted from a 40 hour labour and her heart rate dropped to 60. I didn't realise what was going on until everyone rushed into the room and someone called the NICU doctor into the room and the neopuff machine was turned on. Thankfully all was okay and she started breathing on her own once she was out and the cord was untangled. DH even got to cut the cord - the doctors nearly did it so they could resuscitate her but she started breathing just in time. Then there was me who had a PPH when I got out of bed and fainted on the bathroom floor. Strange sensation coming to on the floor looking around knowing there's something different and trying to remember you have a daughter
But we're all good now. Left hospital after 2 nights because I couldn't stand another night of no sleep in the ward (so much better not to sleep at home )
Alyssa is generally pretty good. She's a guts and never seemed to be off my boob early on but seems to have settled down to 3 hourly feeds for now and in some sort of a routin that lets me sleep nights. Unfortunately only sleeping for a couple of hours in between though and like you Jen I'm guilty of having her up to long. Little miss was up for 6 hours the other morning because she just wouldn't go down. Think she's making up for it today. all she's done is eat and sleep!!!
I'm going to go and have a nap now that she's asleep and DH has gone to cricket training. He goes back to work next week. bit of a daunting thought but I'm sure I'll manage
Hi Emma, wow 40 hours! you must of been exhausted, glad Alyssa came out safely in the end for you.
Hi Porkbackribs, our dd is also getting a little harder to settle. She settled very quickly in the first couple of weeks but this week shes taking alot longer. She looks lovely and settled until we put her in her bassinet!
dd seems to get in a cycle when shes a bit unsettled... feeds, then poos, needs nappy change, gets a little grizzly, more boob, another poo, another change, more boob, another poo, another change! more boob to help settle her, then as shes falling asleep she does another poo which wakes her. A midwife at the hospital said if she starts to settle its ok not to change her nappy straight away, but dd HATES a dirty nappy (and I don't blame her), she likes it changed straight away and grizzles if we don't. Infact one of her favourite places seems to be the change table oddly enough!!!. shes very relaxed on there.
Jen - wow, you must go through a lot of nappies!! I was changing DS about 20 times a day last week but this week he has settled down a bit. He hates being changed and screams the whole time, so I'm glad he's not needing to be changed as often anymore, it was draining! You're lucky that your DD is chilled out while she is being changed.
Emma - a 40 hour labour sounds absolutely exhausting, you poor thing. Alyssa is a gorgeous name, does she have a middle name? I know what you mean about unsettled bubs - DS was up for 6 hours this morning too and just wouldn't go to sleep. Poor boy got so overtired and didn't know what to do with himself. He was so tired that he couldn't even feed properly...thrashed his head around and couldn't latch on. Now he is really grizzly - I hope he sleeps tonight as I need a break!
PBR - I hope your DD settles a bit better for you soon. My DS is the same at the moment, he was so placid for the first couple of weeks but now he is becoming more alert and really doesn't seem to want to sleep, especially in the night. I was loving it when I could just feed him and put him down, but now it is more of a production each time...he cries after feeding every time, then chucks, then gets the hiccups...during that time I try to burp him but he has a sore tummy so he arches his back and gets more upset. It can sometimes take a few hours after feeding to settle him, so there isn't even a break before the next feed. Most of the time it takes about an hour after feeding to settle. I hope he doesn't have reflux. I spoke to the clinic nurse and she said that their digestive systems are still getting used to the milk, so it may take a while for him to settle down. I'm not going to worry about it unless it continues past the 12 week stage, as I think during this time our bubs are still adjusting to being outside. It's tiring though...
