Hi ladies, I was just wondering if you would mind me joining your thread. I have 2 kids, Harrison 22 months old and Emily born on 3rd September, I also have 2 stepdaughters aged 12 & 6. After a good quick labour Emily was born weighing 9lbs 1oz. I have read through a lot of your posts to try to catch up. I am worried about Emily's weight after reading the posts, I weighed Em 4 days ago she weighed 5.6kgs, everyone else's babies have seemed to have put on a lot more then her. She is an angel, happy all the time, feeds well, sleeps well and adores her big brother.
Mum2, welcome to our thread. As for Emily's weight, are you and your DH big or small people? After birth when a baby is growing on its own it changes from the size that your body is able to grow a baby to the size that it is genetically supposed to be iykwim? So just because you grew a big one doesn't mean that she was destined to always be a big baby. As long as she is feeding well and having lots of wet and dirty nappies I wouldn't worry too much, but if you feel something isn't right then get her checked by a doctor or child nurse.
I thought I would chuck in my 10 cents worth about car seats. Zander was in a capsule till he was 8kg and then went forward facng in a car seat. Wyatt was in a capsule for 3mnths but because he is really long went into a car seat rear facing until he was approx 5mnths old (he is tall and is off the graph - height for age)
Indigo is small she is 5.5kg and will probably be rear facing untill 6-7mnths..we have her on the side, Zander in the middle in a booster with harness and Wyatt on the other side with a booster and harness..we had to move Indi out of the middle because she was getting whacked/poked/kicked etc by Wyatt. Very naughty boy!!!!
Indigo is having a day sleep and we have changed her routine slightly at night so she goes to bed the same time as us now...we used to get her up at 9pm bath and feed her but found that she was having her big sleep starting around 8pm and it didnt work well waking her up. She is only sleeping 6hrs at the max though..so still tired here
Olive- Obviously I know you didn't mean to cause an argument. By the time the laws are introduced here in QLD, Frazer will be 6 mnths old anyway. Again, I appreciate the information and our decision is made in the best interests of our child and if we thought it was unsafe, we wouldn't do it.
Mum2- Hi and welcome. Have you seen a CHN about Emily's weight? As you said if she is happy and not upset/ crying she must be getting enough but you could even ask your GP if you were really concerned.
Nicola- I am still tired here and Frazer sleeps 7-9hrs a night! You have 2 other munchkins to run around after, I'm not sure how you do it!!
I am still explaining to my Mum about waking F for feeds. Every time she's around or baby sitting and wake him to feed she says it's cruel. Because my sister didn't do it she doesn't get why I have to. I tried to explain it and she is understanding more but still hesitant when I say "give him a bottle at 8pm". I don't know why she cares, he never wakes up at a dream feed, even after a nappy change and burp. Goes straight back down without a peep. He has always been good like that. And I won't let him go more than 4 hrs during the day without a feed.(Though he very rarely will anyway)

Olive - don't stress! We all get along really well in this thread and know that we all have varied opinions on raising our kids but it's good to have a chat about these things and see what everyone thinks.
Pooley - my god Frazer is a big boy and very cute I might add! He looks like a 6 month old, hey! Izzy would be a midgit against Frazer, lol.
Nicola - Izzy is on the passenger side in my car now. I was getting sick of crawling into the middle as she got bigger and more wrestless. It's much easier standing at the door and just popping her in. She's still in the middle of DH's car but it still works well in that car.
Sangie - I think Izzy would love to be forward facing and see what's going on while we're in the car but it won't be happening any time soon. That You Tube clip made me cry too and really made me realise how dangerous it can be to turn carseats too soon. I just try to make Izzy's car seat as interesting as possible by hanging different toys around it and I have a Fisher Price mirror on the headrest of the carseat so I can see her in my rear vision mirror but she also has something fun to look at.
Art - wow Amelia is growing beautifully! She really is an advanced little girl, isn't she. Hard to believe she was born the same day as Izzy as anyone would think she's a month or two older. It's funny how different they all are.
Mum2 - welcome to our group and congrats on all your rug rats Don't worry about Emily's weight, our Izzy is a little girl too. She was only 6lb 8oz born and struggled gaining weight but she's is finally catching up and was 5.7kg yesterday. As Art said, just cause Emily was born big doesn't mean she was destined to stay big. I was 9lb born and I wasn't a big baby or toddler. Now I'm only 163cm tall and usually between 55 and 60kg so not big at all! Emily sounds just right
Merry Christmas everyone!!! We had a lovely day with the family and Izzy was very spoilt by everyone....especially Santa! I had so much fun buying and wrapping her pressies, which DH unwrappd while I fed Izzy and put her back to bed. Yeah, she was beside herself with excitement. LOL.
Izzy had her 4mth injections yesterday and all went well. She screamed blue murder for about 10 minutes after they went in but then calmed down with a feed. Poor little thing was nodding off in my arms as they jabbed her. The shock on her face was heartbreaking! She had a bit of a scream mid afternoon (45 minutes of it actually!) but she was so overtired that I'm sure it was that more than the shots bothering her. I gave her a bit of panadol anyway and she nodded off for a couple of hours in the sling.
Oh, weighed her yesterday too and she's about 5.7kg. The scales weren't digital and she was in a nappy and summer dress, hence the estimate. That means she's put on another 300gms or so in 2 weeks. I'm stoked!
I was planning on posting about the return of Izzy's crappy day sleeps but she's making a liar out of me as I type! She has been a bit out of sorts with her day sleeps for the past week, just struggling to go to sleep and stay asleep. She was constantly waking after the first sleep cycle and then we had to bounce/rock her hammock frequently until she was ready to get up. We got her up earlier than usual a few times and it just didn't agree with her. She really does like a good 2-3 hours in the morning, even if it means we have to bounce her. Anyway, as you can imagine, the constant resettling was doing my head in but DH took over on Monday and managed to get her down for 3.5 hours with only a couple of bounces along the way. Yesterday was a write off due to her shots but it looks like our sleepy girl has returned as she's been down for an hour now. She even self settled when I first put her down. Woohoo
Izzy is still a champion night sleeper and we were blessed with two 11 hour nights Sunday and Monday. She slept from 8pm-7am both nights. I've been so use to getting up at 5.30 with her (which I thought was great anyway!) that 7am was a complete shock but so damn good for me. She was up at 6.45 this morning but she didn't go down until 9pm last night. She needed lots of settling last night. I'll blame the shots for that.....although it probably had nothing to do with it!
Although Izzy is doing well sleeping at night, she wants to be rocked to sleep lately. Anyone else finding that? We use to be able to feed her and put her to bed and she would generally just go to sleep but now she really likes a good snuggle and rock before she goes down. I don't really mind as it's so cute and hey, that's what mummy's are for, but I don't want to create a habit. Oh well.
Must start some packing our stuff soon. Our house settles in late Feb so we only have about 8 weeks until we're out. We put an offer in on a block a couple of weeks ago but we were beaten by someone else. We've not got an offer in on a house on a great block which, if we get it, we plan on renovating and living in for a couple of years then bulldozing it to build our dream home. Hopefully we should hear from the agent today.
HAPPY 2010 EVERYONE
Was everyones pretty tame? I had one beer and it gave me a headache so i gave up! How things have changed in my life!
Olive - thanks for that info because i had no idea what we were supposed to do in regards to turning bub around....good to know.
Taurean - thankd for reminding me about the 4month injections! Would have completely missed that! I love your pic on FB with Izzy and her 2 baby friends - not so small after all when you put them next to her.....that little prem is so tiny. How did the offer on the land go?
Pooley - Frazer is 2kgs off my niece who is 13months! CRAZY! I am guessing he would be in about the 99 percentile for weight is he? Is he super long as well? I was so upset at putting V into crawler nappies but i am guess F will be in Toddlers soon? They grow up so fast. Did someone advise you to always feed 4th hourly? Is that what we should be doing? How much milk does F drink now per bottle?
Welcome Mum2 to our group. Congrats on little Emily. I am with the other advice - if she wees/poos and isn't screaming in hunger then everything is pretty good i would say. There are always going to be bigger and smaller bubs - thats how we get an average so don't be too concerned...and don't let people try to convince you to give her formula if you are breastfeeding. She will grow at her own pace.
As for Violet.....she is getting a bit more grizzly lately. Hard to keep her occupied. What are people doing for activities - anything great you could pass along? I would love to say she is teething but i don't think she is. Congrats Kosi on Avas first tooth
