Hi Girls,
Been a while..... Just have to say... Hey ya... hey ya.. the inlaws are back!!! I had a nice 2 1/2 days where they were off seeing other family members, and they got back last night.
I was just starting to relax and Ava was sleeping better etc. Now I'm all uptight again.
Don't you love when the MIL drops hints that she doesn't like the fact that her dog can't sleep inside. (Large male German Shepherd. We have a smaller female German Shep, but don't let her inside either. Especially now since Ava is home.) And when I got up lastnight to tend to Ava, I found the back door open (luckily I have 2 internal doors that can be shut between the outside door). I don't know if it was deliberate or not. I was too tired to shut it. But haven't spoken to DH about it either.
And then this morning, I only heard parts of a convo, and phrases such as "like a prison" etc were audible. I might be overreacting and also very tired and jumping to conclusions... but I just don't know how to handle them. And now DH is back at work, I don't have a mediator to distract them from me.
Anywho, there is my whinge for today.
Sounds like all you ladies are doing well.
Janine - Your a sexy mumma!
Tauren - You are an inspiration. I seriously don't know where you find the strength to stick to your BF guns.
Nicola - Sounds like you got a good MIL there!
Sangie - Ouchy on the Mastitis! Hope things a looking up for you.
Best be off to grab some brekkie. Ava is settled into her rocker and is happily "punching" her moon and star toys hanging in front of her. Hopefully that will wear her down into sleep. As long as she is happy and quiet for a while.... Maybe I will get a shower sometime before lunch today. Didn't get a shower till 6pm last night. And when am I supposed to get nanna naps again? I never seem to make it to the couch long enough to have a snooze.
-
Taurean - yes I'm on Abs and thankfully I'm starting to feel a bit better. Thankfully DH took some time off work as I was just too sick to be able to look after two littlies let alone myself. How are you doing hun?
Pooley - maybe each state is different? Ethan will be measured in length at the next few visits to the nurse. Sounds like Frazer is doing really well! My DD loved being on her tummy too and in the end I just let her as she wouldn't sleep any other way. But she also had really good head control from birth so I was less worried and the monitor of course is great peace of mind too.
Kosi - how long are the IL's staying for? Hopefully not too much longer
NIcola - yay for moving closer to family. I'm so lucky to be close to my mum and my IL's and they have been a great help. It makes such a difference to have family support.
Art - WOW on the rolling!
Janine - gorgeous pics!
Well its the wedding tomorrow and I think I'll have to start getting ready today lol! We'll be out all day so I'm going to have to take half the house with me  I just really hope that Ethan decides to sleep a lot. Wish me luck
-
This is about the 4th time i have tried to post - lets see if i can not get distracted this time!
Taurean - Mate you are having a rough time. Is the thrush clearing up? That is something i have wondered - how do you tell the difference between a milky tounge and thrush? Hope your doing ok....sending some happy vibes from Bris to Perth for you! :p
Sangie - another problematic boob situation! Glad to hear your feeling better - good luck with the wedding today - are you wearing something you are able to feed in?
Kosi - can you tell them to leave! That is brutal feeling uncomfortable in your own home. I say you tell your DH your emotionally spent and he needs to ship off his parents! Would that work?
Pooley - I let V sleep on her tummy during the day - settle far easier - it's just at night because she is in bed with us i am a bit nervous so she sleeps on her side staring at me or DH so she knows we are there. All the SIDS advice is far and well but if yo have a screaming baby who won't settle i'll be damned if i'm going to abide by the rules!
We are going ok i guess.....she sleeps a little less now. I am sick of people telling me what to do - i was told by a family member that i am feeding her inappropriately (overfeeding) and that the reason she won't settle by herself is because she is used to falling asleep on the boob. Everything i have read says that at this age they can't self settle anyway so i don't see that it makes a difference.
Shes awake - must fly be back later
-
Sanchez - IL's will be heading off on Monday or Tuesday.....
Hubby is over them being petty and fighting. And supposedly I wasn't overreacting about the "prison" comment. He asked them not to put their smoke butts into a trailer that contained green waste and they got all defensive. He did it nicely. And supposedly we have too many rules and regulations in this place. Ummm... No dogs inside (we have Ava). No smoking inside (we have only been in this house for a year and a bit and it was the rule from when we moved in). No leaving smoke butts anywhere but in the ash tray or bin (common sense). I don't see these as being overbearing?? I would respect any rules at someone elses house... so why am I the prison guard here?
Not long till the start of the week, so I will hang in there. Off to visit daddy at work today so his mates can meet Ava. Then on the way home we will stop in to see her great grandparents. Just a little trip out of the house.... :)
-
Sanchez- After last night there's not way I'm gonna put him on his back to sleep. He had a huge feed at 6pm (Mummy was silly enough to stay awake and not go to sleep but should've)and then still wasn't awake by 12am so I woke him up for a feed!! Barely had 1/2 a bottle and then slept til 4.30am.
He hasn't done 6hrs since the early days. My god it's fantastic! Just then i tried to settle him in his rocker but he just wakes up crying after 5 mins. Rocked him back to sleep and then put him on his tummy in his cradle and wham, out like a light.
Kosi- We are having some hard times with DH's brother and wife atm. All a bit awkward really and even though it's not good to rock the boat sometimes you just gotta speak your mind and be done with it. It's your bloody house!! If they don't like it, they can leave!
-
Sangie, I can't believe you are bridesmaiding only a month after having a bub! I hope they are letting you wear a baby-doll style dress (or am I the only one that still has a big jelly belly?) Hope the mastitis is clearing up
Kosi, I hope your ILs are leaving soon. It is so not rude that they aren't allowed to smoke inside. I would spew if someone thought they could smoke inside my house, and I would get the cranks if they threw butts everywhere.
Sanchez, poo to every know-it-all out there. Just nod politely and then do whatever suits you. People love to know better than a first time mum, but you know your bub and what works for you. And you are right - at this age they don't self settle very well and you won't do any harm letting her fall asleep on the boob - that is what new babies are programmed to do.
Pooley, sounds like you are onto a winner with the tummy sleeping, bet you feel almost human today lol. Sounds like F is doing really well.
Amelia is doing so well, she just fits in so nicely. We are currently doing a mix of cot and co sleeping - if she settles in her cot then she stays there, if she won't stay asleep after a couple of attempts then I bring her into our bed. Last night she only woke at 3am, then came to our bed and slept until 6.30am, so not too bad.

Hello Lovelies!
Kosi - You poor thing! your house your rules and if they want access to their gorgeous grandchild then they just have to abide by them... they should be grateful to be able to spend this time with your family! Just take a deep breath and thank god they are only visiting :p
Taurean - How's it all going now? You're such a trooper, I would have given up by now. I'm pretty soft by comparison lol... Emily keeps hitting a nerve in my left boob and it's shooting a pain down the whole arm, unbearable!
Nicola - Sounds like u have a wonderful MIL!! Hope everything is going well for you :)
Sangie - Hope the mastitis is better now... how'd you go at the wedding today?
Sanchez - Best take any "advice" given with a grain of salt. If bub settles on the boob than so be it! At least you've found a way to get her off to sleep. Emily does the same thing occasionally, It's just normal baby behavior.
Pooley - Yay for getting sleep! I've stopped stressing about the tummy sleeping, they only bought in the back sleeping rule in 1991 and we all turned out just fine! I just make sure all the other sids guides are in place so i'm doing something right. She's been sleeping really well again through the night, sometimes up to 7 hours so i'm stoked.
Art - Sounds like you're coping really well with 2 bubs, I have to say though I'm in total admiration of you for it... one is enough work let alone 2 on 2 completely different schedules!!
I had my hooping cough vaccine done yesterday and it's given me a majorly dead arm, if any of you are still yet to get it make sure you use the arm you don't carry bub in, I seriously can't even pull my shirt off over my head.
Emily was weighed yesterday and came in only 10gms more than her last one. It doesn't make sense at all because she is fattening up nicely, she was feeding longer and more frequently last week, and is sleeping well and perfectly happy. The scales used last time were different, so the nurse said they were probably wrong and just to go there for weigh ins from now on... I'm taking her back wednesday to check her weight again. Fingers crossed for a better result as i'm a little anxious about it and left the dr's yesterday very disheartened.
The executive decision has been made for DF and I to get married in the Whitsundays with close friends and family instead of the elaborate wedding we were originally going to go for. So i've been looking into that lately and that's giving me something else to occupy my mind with besides baby, boobs, and dirty nappies. DF flew back out to work this morning :( So 7 sleeps to go til he comes back, It's alot harder to cope when he's away.
Exciting news, my baby photos arrived today, I was so excited about getting them lol. If anyone is interested here's a link to them!

Hopefully that link works okay?
Hope everyone else is going swimmingly well!

Hi Girls
Well I'm still in a bit of pain but I *think* we are on the mend. Fingers crossed!!! I've taken a once off dose of Diflucan which should kick in soon, hopefuly within the next 24 hours. I had a bleb (google it!) on my nipple this morning which was super painful but managed to get rid of it in the shower. Just had to rub the blister after the skin had softened to release the trapped milk. Fun, fun. Now I don't think I could possibly get anything else in my boobs, could I?!
Isobel had her big weigh in today and the news is good....she has gained 280g in a week!!!! We were so excited and so was the health nurse!! All the hard work has paid off. We'll continue what we're doing (so feeding 10-15mins on each breast then topping up with EBM and expressing between feeds) until we take the hired breast pump back (in 10 days) then I'll see how we go on our own. Hopefully her sucking has improved.
I don't have time for pesonals as have only just got Izzy to sleep and finally have the chance to eat and chat to my DH so I'm outta here. Glad to see everyone seems to be going so well and I agree with all of you, do what is best for you and your baby and just smile at random advice from others. We know our babies better than anyone
xx

Just wanted to say Janine - your pics of E are amazing. So small and adorable. If V didn't resemble robocop I would have loved to have got early shots of her!
And that knitted hat is beautiful.
-
Lol, I haven't been getting the thread e-mail updates so once again Its been ages since I've posted!
Hope everyone is doing really well! We are absolutely loving it now the feeding issues are sorted! We are having another weigh tomorrow in and expect it to be really good as Lottie is getting heavier in my arms, no doubt!:D
Sleeping is still going beautifully and I'm getting 8 hours sleep a night with only the one feed at 4am. We are getting lots of smiles now and her head control is amazing. She's started trying to roll over which seems a bit early but its wonderful to see her thriving :)
Taurean, Wonderful news on the weight gain! Your hard work has definately paid off! I'm getting 80mls now per express so I'm thrilled (compared to the 30 odd I was getting!).
Kosi, Have the il's left yet..? Smoking inside, what the hell??
Janine - Gorgeous pics!! Emily is a sweetheart :) Hope the wedding plans go well, sounds wonderful!
Sangie, how are you feeling and hope the wedding went well!
Sanchez, I know how you feel about the "advice" Its a bit much hey.. just smile politely.. My Mil was making me feel a little guilty about the top up formula we had to use.. In the end I made my point that our little girl was thriving and its no one elses business.
Can someone please remind me how to upload a pic into my sig.. I'm hopeless!!
DH has 4 days off from today, we are loving it! Have a great weekend everyone!! :)
-
Just a super quick one from me on my way out... to a night on the town!!! :O
I successfully expressed for the first time today and had mum come over and see how Emily would go drinking from the bottle, she took to it like a duck to water! I also now know my boob holds 125ml of BM before it's empty. So because I now know I can do that, i'm leaving mum with a bottle of milk and i'm going to a mates birthday thing. I won't be drinking but i'm excited about being dressed up and going out nonetheless.
Sanchez & PB, cheers for the photo comments, we were really pleased with how they turned out :)
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
Janine xx

Hi
Janine your pictures are really cute.
We are trying to pack and clean up etc but its just not happening as I find it hard to just get dressed at the moment.
Indigo weighs 3.59kg as of friday so she is still tiny but has put on just over 1kg since she was born a month ago. Im only pumping 1 bottle of EBM a day so it will probably be gone soon.
I thought I would mention about the Angelcare Sensor Monitors - make sure you dont have a fan blowing near them as this will effect the alarm - they are so sensitive that they pick up on the slightest sense. I know this from when Wyatt was a baby I took him out of the bassinett and went away and then realised the monitor was still on but wondered why the alarm hadnt gone off.....the fan was blowing on it!!
-
Janine, those photos are absolutely beautiful!
Nicola, I know what you mean about finding time to get dressed! The only reason I have time for a shower is that I have one with Amelia while DS is in the bath too lol.
Sanchez, I read your other thread and I don't have any advice if it is a supply problem, but Miss V is about the right age for a growth spurt where they just want to feed and feed for a few days. You may find that in a day or so she will just stop the constant feeding on her own accord and instead want to sleep heaps.
Not a lot happening here - I finally got some strawberry plants in the garden yesterday and then what happens? Snow!! It has been snowing for the last 7 hours. DH is hoping for a snow day tomorrow but I am guessing we will just get messy slush.
-
Breathes a sigh of relief..... They have headed off.
Why is it, that they start to get better just before they leave. They still were a bit painful, but more tolerable last night!
Had a good night with Ava and sleep. Hoping it keeps up now!
Big hugs to you ladies and your bubba's! Will do personals next time.
-
Hi All
Have had a rough couple of days with Violet not sleeping longer than an hour and continuously wanting to feed. I was worried that my milk supply wouldn't be able to keep up ect - but some lovely BB ladies put my mind at ease and she has had a better day today.
I gave her a bottle of EBM last night as i was beside myself - by the end of the bottle she had the whole idea of how to suck on the teat. I am almost ashamed that i was so narrow minded before i had her with the comments i made such as "my baby will never use a pacifier" and "i won't give my baby a bottle before 3 months" :shakehead: Those things seem so ridiculous now!
Kosi - glad to hear the inlaws have left the reservation!
I wonder if anybody has any tips on how to start expressing some EBM to store. I am not sure how to get started without losing a feed IYKWIM. Should i try overnight when i tend you have fuller breasts and try and feed twice on one side and pump the other? Wonder if anyone else has a good routine?
Hope all is well x
-
I hear you Sanchez!! I was so judgemental of formula bubs and pacificers but lo and behold, Charlotte is having both and I couldn't be happier now the pressures off regarding feeding.
Happy Mum, Happy Bub!! :)
Not sure regarding storage as I have to use my EBM as I go..
-
Sanchez and Peanut Baby - I have always been open minded about everything to do with becoming a mother. Maintaining this kind of attitude has helped me through the fact that we decided to formula feed because of post- labour problems I experienced. I honestly think it's the best way to be especially with so many differing opinions being thrown our way constantly.
Every baby is different. Our decision to formula feed, tummy sleep, use dummies, demand feed, they are all personal decisions that DH and I have made together regardless of peoples opinions or "the norm". I will never be one to pass judgement on others, parents simply do what they think is best for their baby. Then later we are faced with even harder decisions like immunisation etc. Never ends I guess.
P.S Frazer is my little heffer!! Today at 4 weeks 3 days he weighed in @ 5.24 kgs!! That is a gain of 690gms in 2 weeks!!
