Hi girls,
well at least those struggling with feeding issues know we are not alone! Amazing how much of a challenge it can be.
I'm feeling much better now, thanks for those who asked - apart from having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. I am now covered in a red rash, and Tadhg has it too (although the Dr said it was hormone rash before i realised i had it). He has also had a really sore tummy and the runs, poor little thing. We fed him formula for half the day and now i've stopped antibiotics i'm trying to feed again. We will get there!
Sangie - sorry to hear you have mastitis too :( are you on antibiotics - maybe thats also giving E a sore tummy? We have found infacol helps quite a bit, and T likes his tummy being rubbed in a gentle circle or even just pressure applied to his tummy.
Pooley - Frazer's pics are so cute! i love his chubby cheeks :)
PB - we are doing much better now, and a girlfriend has given me a homeopathic remedy for mastitis that a few people swear by - so i feel like i'm armed now, should it happen again! How many feeds a day is Charlotte having? I feel like i may have been starving T now, we only give him 100ml of formula, next time i might mix up 150ml and see how he goes! Also, Lottie is such a cutie yay for the photo!
Sanchez and Taurean - wow, no sterilizing - thats so much easier! I'll follow your lead then. Thanks so much for the advice.
Us - we did have a bit of a tough day yesterday with the aforementioned allergies and sore tummy - but T still slept well at night, bless him. He had a bottle about 9pm and slept until 4:45. I suspect he sleeps longer on formula than breast milk, we will see how he goes tonight - a few good nights of sleep would make the world of difference, not that we get bad nights - but just sleeping through would feel so good! DH is going away for work on Wednesday for a week, so i have mum coming up thursday night till Sunday avo, yay for mums.
Hope BB's are recovering and making lots of milk for everyone and bub's are growing and happy (however fast or slow they are putting on weight).
Kelly :)
-
Kelly - Lottie has 6 feeds a day still. Some 120ml and some up to 180ml (usually the last one of the evening is 180ml). She is definitely sleeping better on formula that BF. That sucks about your allergic reaction, what a pain.
We did a tour of Lottie's early learning centre today (she's not going until Jul next year but we've been on the waiting list at a fantastic school since her conception!). It was just lovely and everyone was so nice. They advised we should put her name down for kindergarten now (!!!) so we'll do that. Apparently the waiting list for Kindi is huge and we don't want to miss out
That's about all for me atm.. DH has a few days off now so we're getting stuck into some spring cleaning.
Hope all is well! :)

Hi Everyone
We arrived in Brisbane yesterday to freezing cold weather!!! Its going to take a little bit of getting used to not living in the tropics. Im in Deception Bay any of you Brisbane girls that may want to catch up???
I have stopped expressing now as I was losing my supply. I still have a sore right breast I think it may still be the thrush, I have been keeping an eye on it so I dont get mastitis. Just hand expressing when I feel the need. I am only sterilising once a day and just washing the bottles in hot soapy water in between feeds. I use a dummy with Indigo for settling. She has a really unsettled period at the same time everyday and is sleeping up to 5 hours at night.
Indigo is still tiny and wearing 0000-000 she would probably be nearly 4kg now lol
-
Haha Nicola is the unsettled period between 5-7pm..thats Charlotte's each day.. always when I'm trying to cook dinner.. lol
She would only be 4kg now as well I think because of her slow start. She's in to 000 now.
-
Hi girls
quick one from my phone as I'm feeding yet again!
Gosh, Izzy is tiny compared to all the other bubbies! She's only 3.3kg and still struggling to fit into her 0000 wardrobe! She is still wearing 0000 wondersuits (not for much longer though - thought she'd be out of them by now!!) and premmie clothes from pumpkin patch. She even has a couple of 00000 suits! Its so cute but as you all know, I just wish she would grow a little faster. It really worries me
We are feeding izzy as much as possible again on the breast, with EBM and formula. Is so tiring, as a few of you know, and a little depressing. I'm seeing the doctor tom to get a script for the pills to help increase my supply. I think I have enough but the fatigue and stress is bringing me down. Izzy is sleeping well at night, usually down by 8 then up for a feed around 1 then another feed at 5ish, but having to feed 3 hourly during the day doesn't leave me much time for napping.
My thrush seems to have gone but my left nipple is killing me from the deep hole the burst milk blister left. Will get the doc to check it tom too. I dread feeding on that side. Izzy has taken to fussing during her night feeds too so my poor nipple gets yanked and chewed. I might have to bottle feed during the night to give it time to heal
So things are still tough but we are hanging in there. It's a good things she's so damn cute and placid (yes, back to normal after we reintroduced all the comp feeds)!!
Well I must get Missy off for a nap so I can express and continue cleaning. We have put our house on the market so the agent is taking photos for the Net tom morning. Thankfully DH is coming home early to lend a hand cause it's taken me 3 hours just to attempt the dusting - LOL!
Xx
ps Janine - Emily's newborn shots are gorgeous!!
PB - Lottie is damn cute! What a stunner!
Pooley - Frazer is beautiful and I love his chubby cheeks. Izzy is jealous :)
Sanchez, Kosi and Kelly - ivebeen checking out the latest pics of your rugrats on FB and they are so cute. We have a gorgeous bunch of bubbies in our group.
-
Yes the unsettled period is between 5-9pm it has a name " witching hour" and unfortunately it can take years to grow out of it..the boys turn rat**** at around that time aswell hungry and tired = psycho kids lol I have had all 3 of them crying and screaming at once....wasnt fun!!!:shakehead:
-
Girls - any tips on how to get a baby to take a bottle - is it just perseverence? She screams like I am trying to kill her.
Taurean - I am giving you Breast Feeder of the Year award for all that you are going through! Look out for your gold plated boob in the mail!!! Izzy is a little munchkin but not too far behind the rest of us. V is in 000 - all the 0000 didn't get a look in as that brace was too big. So all my beautiful clothes never got worn :(
Nicola - the other day i was in a jumper - random...not like Brisbane to be like that. I am a northsider but I read that Pooley and Janine caught up - maybe next time we could all meet up - exchange horror stories!
OK - have run out of puff to finish off rest of persies.
Night all - hope all the babies behave
-
Nicola - I am at d'bay too! Janine is about 7 mins away from me. Would love to catch up. Are u there for good?? Frazer's best sleeping time is about 5pm onwards. Usually does about 6hrs that time of night! If only he could time it better...
Thanking u ladies for your lovely comments about Frazer. Wil update my FB with my
professional photos when I get them. Frazer officially is into the 00's as of this week.
What a fatty!! Am guessing he'll b about 5.5 kgs when we weigh him tomorrow.
Nice to hear most of everyone's feeding issues are sorting themselves
out.
-
Sanchez - Not all babies will take a bottle..I tried numerous times to wean Wyatt but he just wouldnt/couldnt suck on the teat.
Pooley - I will be in D'bay or Mango Hill (between my parents and DHs parents house) till the new year at least, DH is working in Gatton and will be commuting there till our house in Townsville is rented. We are not in a hurry to move away on our own again.
-
Taurean - hang in there hunny, you are doing a great job! Good luck putting your house on the market, hope it sells quickly for you!
Nicola - good to hear you are settled now. We get witching hour here too. Thankfully DD has grown out of it so now I just have E to deal with.
Kelly - yes I was on Abs for mastitis but I've finished taking them now and E still seems to get an upset tummy. I think he's just a windy boy! Glad to hear you are feeling better :D
Sanchez - good luck with the bottle feeding, sorry have no advice but I know of lots of babies who refuse the bottle at first. I guess just keep trying???
Pooley - wow at being in 00's already!
PB - E cracks it when I'm trying to cook dinner too so I've started trying to get dinner ready in the mornings so I only have to re-heat in the evenings.
AFU - we had an amazing night last night! E slept from 11.30pm to 6.30am woo hoo! My mastitis has cleared up but I think I have low supply in the evenings and I'm having to top him up with formula (hhhmmm maybe that's why he slept so long lol!). Anyway hopefully my bb's start co-operating and making more milk. E is doing well in the weight department too - he is now 4.46kg so more than 1kg above his birth weight
-
Hi everyone. Somehow I have both kids asleep, and Amelia is even in her cot!
Pooley, F is a real cutie!
Sangie, yay for the sleep!
Taurean, are you moving to a new place or just changing houses?
Janine, those newborn shots are really beautiful
We had our last midwife check yesterday, A is now 4.8kg, up just over a kg from birth. They asked about tummy time so A gave them a rolling demo, they agreed that there wouldn't be any tummy time for her.

Hi guys, I need some help trying to get Frazer to have his big sleep when Mum and Dad sleep.
He does a good 6- 7hrs anywhere from 4pm onwards but then we only get about 3/12 - 4 hrs before the next one. His last bottle yesterday was at 4 so I tried waking him for a "dream feed" last night at about 10 to see if that "top up" would get him through to 3ish but it was actually worse. He woke up for a feed at 1, which was only 3hrs and then again at 5.45am, which isn't so bad.
I'm not sure how else to do it. I can't keep him up any later cause he'll scream when he's tired and then just got to sleep regardless. Is everyone else's bub just sleeping through the nite without any particular effort or have you done something to help them get the timing right??

Another quick one - at gp to get my nipples checked again and get a script for pills to increase my supply
Art - moving to a new suburb. We are putting an offer in on a house in a suburb we've loved for ages. The house is smaller and older than our current home but will definitely do the job until we are ready to build again. We are basically buying it for block value as it's one block from the river and so close to everything. Fingers crossed our place sells quickly as I'm dreading keeping it spotless for all the home opens!
Sanchez - PMSL!!! Gold boob award - love it!
Pooley - I'd be waking Frazer after 3 or 4 hours max to feed him again then see how he goes. Do that until a time your happy with for bed time, say 10pm, then give him his last big feed. Izzy tends to do a longer sleep for her first nightime sleep too then a shorter one for the next snooze and then shorter for the last one. For example Izzy will feed at say 7pm then wake at midnight for a feed then wake a 4 for a feed then again at 7 or even 6. She seems to be getting into some sort of routine but I'm not expecting much of her yet. Not sure if that helps at all!
Gotta run, I'm finally going in

Hi guys,
Bit of an update on us. She's always been a pretty good sleeper, but the last 5 days especially Emily has gotten herself, with a little persuasion into an awesome sleep routine. In the afternoon she feeds at 12, 4, 7 and 11pm. She has her last feed around 11pm then sleeps for at least 8 hours, she's still not up yet today and it's been 9 1/2 so far. She always has an unsettled screaming fit between her 7pm and 11pm feed which maybe just wears her out so much she sleeps well. So fingers crossed this continues as it'll make it so much easier when DF is away if she sleeps like this. She's awake for a few hours at a time now through the day as well.
I'm still expressing full time, but my supply has increased so I'm doing it every 3 hours now and getting 1 1/2 feeds at a time which is great, i'm now up to 6 spare in the fridge. I'm not finding it too bad at all so far, that might be a different dtory when DF flies back out but for now i'm just going to keep doing this, it's much easier now her sleep patterns are mostly predictable because I can make sure I do it whilst she's sleeping. She's now 5.00kg, put on 300gms in 4 days last week which was very reassuring because she only feeds 5 times a day and I keep reading thats not typical so was a little worried she wasn't feeding enough. She's fits into her first 00 now, but is still a pretty good 000 fit. She has grown 10cm in length, and 2cm in head circ.
She smiles lots and makes heaps of wonderful cooing noises and is extremely ticklish! Her eyes are now definitely blue and her hair is getting fairer, her "milk" rash is starting to clear up now. She's obsessed with the mobile above her changetable and on her swing and now loves being nude.
I'm in a much better place than last week, I feel heaps better about things and am very very happy with how everything is going, despite the expressing.
Nicola - Dbay isn't far from me at all, would be great for you, Pooley, Sanchez and I to catch up one day for a coffee or something.
Taurean - Good luck with the boobs today! :p Hope your offer for house gets accepted!
Pooley - I found that sleep book I told you about yesterday, will catch up with you Monday or Tuesday next week if you're free and bring it for you.
Art - 1kg is awesome :) Hope you're coping okay with the 2 kids, don't know how you do it!
Sangie - sounds like things are looking up for you, that's an awesome sleep!
PB - I haven't even given kindy a thought yet, can't believe they take enrollments this far in advance!
Kelly - Hope you're both on the mend, you've had a rough time with the BFing. It's great that your mums coming to help you out wilst your DH is away, mums are great support. Mine is staying with me Friday & Saturday, so at least I only have to do 6 days by myself after that.
I better go wake little miss for breakfast so I can get her 5 feeds in today, hope you ladies have a great day!
Peace out, A town. xx
-
Hiya, quick update while Tadhg is actually asleep.
Sangie - glad you are on the mend, and no doubt you'll get on top of the wind issues. Ours have gotten heaps better recently and I'm not 100% sure what has changed, but i think T is drinking slower, probably partly since i'm making less milk now after mastitis and maybe growth spurt related. So here's hoping E is just having a growth spurt too and will settle into better feeding and burping soon.
Sanchez, how annoying with the bottle feeding. I did read that its hard to introduce a bottle after 6 weeks. Have you tried some different brands, as maybe the teat shape would help? I'm using Pigeon now and they have a really nice teat which is flexible and more nipple shaped. That being said T wont refuse anything with food, and will even drink cold milk from the fridge if he is hungry - crazy baby.
Art - woohoo on the weight gain, A is certainly doing well in that department! Have you tried doing tummy time on your chest while you are reclined back? It might give A a chance to use her neck muscles without being able to roll - still impressive trick!
Pooley - how frustrating, it seems some babies are just born with a biological clock set for different times. I agree with the plan to try and wake him every 3 or 3 1/2 hours until 10pm it might take a few days for him to get used to having a longer sleep later in the evening - but it would be worth it for the reward.
We had a frustrating day yesterday with T looking really sleepy and then only cat-napping when i put him down. Today i'm ignoring the early yawns after a feed and keeping him up longer, which is kinda working so far. I'm also doing more regular feeds as DH thinks he might need more time feeding and cuddling, which seems like a fair theory.
We finally got our cot delivered today - yes 4 months since i ordered it, no thanks to Heart and Home in NZ, still waiting on the bookcase. I can't unwrap it yet cos its in the nursery where T is sleeping. It better be nice!

Another day - another struggle with the bottle. Having no luck unfortunatly.
Kelly I have the pigeon as well as a lac consultant said it is the best for breast fed babies. I will keep trying...you never know one day it might click! I have had many of those catnapping type days - i could have cried at the end of them i was so tired! That is terrible the cot took so long..if memory serves me correct you got the free bassinette - but even still.
Janine - the word jealous comes to mind at the thought of an 8 hour sleep. Good job on the weight gain and 10cm! that is awesome! What pump do you use? Can't believe all of these well behaved babies.
Pooley - good luck with trying to move the "big" sleep. Hope some ladies have some good advice for you. Again i am completely jealous at 7 hour sleeps. I am just demand feeding so my nights are not great. I usually feed V 4 times between 10pm and 6am. Not great.
Art - Yay for the weight gain and A's acrobatic display!
Sangie - what is with all these well behaved babies sleeping well.....:( am i the only person not sleeping?! My milk supply is really low in the evenings too - so frustrating. Good job on the formula top up though - bet you loved that long sleep ;)
Nicola - I hear you on the bottle front - i am just refusing to believe it and am trying my best to wedge it in there!
All is well with us, had our hips ultrasounded on Monday which came back great. We had to take the splint off for the scan and i tell you the smell when it came off was really bad - sort of like when a plaster comes off i guess.
So we saw the Dr yesterday and great news we can take the splint off in 2 weeks ourselves at home - and the first matter of business, will be giving her the biggest clean of her life! I held her in the scanning room without the splint and oh my god she was floppy - I thought i was going to drop her!
ps...i am loathing this heat already - summer is going to be a nightmare! Does anybody else end up drenched in sweat when feeding their bub?
-
Sanchez, no 7-8 hour sleeps here either. She will do 4-5 at best atm. Last night she was awake every two hours, so it is still quite a mixed bag. Is she still wanting to feed every couple of hours?
Kelly, I can't believe they took so long to get the cot to you! I am not really worried about tummy time, she is very strong and has excellent neck control already. I didn't bother with tummy time with DS because he hated it and he still managed to sit and walk very early.
Janine, you 'sound' much happier. Are you still having to jiggle away on the fit ball or is the swing giving you a bit of time to do thing? There is a thread in the feeding section for full time expesser support.
Taurean, sucks having to keep your house clean! When we did open homes there was a mad rush on a Saturday morning to get the place tidy lol
