Sanchez - agree with the others, Violet seems completely normal. Ethan isn't on the move at all. He can roll from tummy to back but has only done it a few times and can't roll the other way. He can sit up for a few seconds and he does 'talk' a lot too (gets that from me lol!). He has just started to grasp things in his hands this week. Oh and no teeth yet and no signs that they are coming. Don't worry hun, if there is one thing I've learnt being a mum its that these bubs do things when they want and not a second earlier!

Pooley and Janine - I hope you haven't left us for good. It's been great getting to know you both and you will both be missed xoxo

Taurean - maybe I should try sailing to get my boy to sleep lol! I'd be willing to try anything right about now. Hope you hear about the house soon.

Art - no plans to start solids yet. I'm hoping to start at around six months unless Ethan has other ideas before then. I started my DD on the mush at 5 and half months but quickly worked up to lumpier textures. It worked well for us so I'll probably do that with Ethan too. What do you give them to start with for BLS? I'd be interested to know how you did it if you don't mind sharing? I'm exactly the same in that I don't like any of the options re: contraception. I want DH to get the snip but he isn't too keen

Kosi - seems day sleeps are an issue for a few of us. I hope Ava coped ok with getting a tooth!

Mum2 - good luck TTC!!! What a stupid nurse!

DH is still on holidays. So good to have an extra pair of hands to help out with the kiddies. I'm really going to miss it when he goes back to work next week. We've also had lots of family time which has been great. Went to the zoo, have had lots of picnics at the park and going to the beach tomorrow. Ethan loves being out and about and 'talks' to everything lol! He was quite impressed by the giraffes at the zoo, smiling and waving his arms around!

Well it is 4am and here i am.....Violet woke at 1.30, had a feed, was restless for a few hours and now apparently thinks its time to play. Very talkative and trying to suck on her socks......which i would think was cute - had i not been awake for hours and being the middle of the night

So she is now watching TV! I thought she was so good because she was sleeping through the night - not for the last 4 nights though, and now i am wondering if she has got herself out of routine.

Anyway that is my gripe - i am off to make myself a cup of tea.....or should i have breakfast? IT IS WAY TOO EARLY!

OMG Sanchez! You poor thing!!! You're right, attempting to eat socks is very cute - in daylight hours! How do the cheeky monkeys know exactly when it would be good to cheer mummy up by busting out a new move?! Izzy did that the other day. She was going mental on our walk which continued when we got in the car and we were both a bit over it. Izzy must have known as out of the blue she stopped, grinned and then laughed as we drove over a series of speed bumps! It was during the day though. Did you manage to get back to bed?

I've been reading on the net (BB and other sites) that sleep regression is quite common at 4 months. I'm hoping that explains Izzys day sleep issues, but her nights are still great so it's a bit weird. I actually managed to get her down for 45 mins in her cot (not her hammock!) yesterday morning so that was a breakthrough! She only had another 30 mins for the day, in the sling mind you. Surely such a small amount of sleep can't be good for her. I guess I should just be grateful for good night sleeps.

I hope everyone is well. We are going to see The Lovely Bones today with mum. I'm hoping that Izzy will just sleep in the sling. Fingers crossed! I loved the book so I hope the movie is good but they do have a tendancy to miss a lot in the movies, don't they?

I was going to mention the 4 month sleep regression too - it is apparently them gearing up for a massive developmental growth spurt at 19 weeks. We aren't doing too badly atm, day sleeps are still 45 minutes a pop and at night she usually goes until sometime between 4 and 6. She has been up earlier the last few nights and then a wrigglepants in bed with me because she has a cold and is all blocked up.

Is anyone else losing their hair? I thought I was going to get away with it this time but I have been losing heaps in the shower lately and today I noticed that I have almost bald patches on my temple. I have such thin hair that it is a disaster to lose any lol

Good morning.....I am feeling a bit more sane! After I wrote on BB I decided to crawl back into bed thinking I would hear her cry out in the lounge. I woke up DH so he could feel sorry for me (horrible wife that I am) and he actually got up and played with her so I could sleep - so I got a 2hr sleep! I love my husband right now. His happiness with me was short lived when I bought V is naked to wake him up and he was playing with her and she wee'd allover the doona! I thought it was safe because she'd already just wee'd all over the mat she plays on! Live and learn.
We had a HUGE mishap with a lot of baby poo and our white leather couch yesterday but that's a whole other story!
Art I am losing heaps of hair but I put it down to a seasonal thing. Is it not? A friend told me you can lose a huge amount of hair when you stop breastfeeding? Seems an odd thing to happen. Unlike you though Art I have really thick hair so I am always grateful when I lose some. I wish I could give some of it to my DH though!
Taurean I would love to hear if you the TLB was good - I too loved the book. I am going to go see Fantastic Mr Fox and Where the Wild Things are next week...apparently they are supposed to be quite good.

Sanchez, yip, it is a hormonal thing around 3-4 months after you have a baby to lose some hair. Apparently it is the end of the hormone that gave us lush healthy hair during pregnancy and made us glow (although I missed these parts lol), so all the 'extra' hair we were holding on to falls out.
Bummer about the while couch poo, lucky it is a leather couch and not fabric.
I am too lazy to clean up poo/wee, so poor A doesn't get much nappy free time.

I have jinxed myself by talking about A's sleep - it is 2.30 and she has had three 20 minute naps. I hate it when it takes longer to get her to sleep than she actually spends sleeping.

    Hi Girls!

I've been busy with my 'day sleeps are overrated' baby girl, lol. We're seeing the paediatrician today for a follow up about her reflux so I'll chat to him about it to see if he has any ideas. I'm considering going back to sleep school again as well. She's a really happy baby but it sucks when the poor little thing gets cranky cause she just can't get to sleep! I've tried everything (have even tried swaddling her again!) and have watched her to see what is going on and basically she is just really restless during the day. You know that falling feeling you get sometimes when you first nod off and it jolts you out of your sleep? Well that's what Izzy seems to be doing. I've bought Brauers Calm but will check with the PD to see what he thinks. It's just so frustrating - for both of us. You can actually see her getting more and more frustrated as she desperately tries to fall asleep and finally gives up by spitting her dummy out and crying. It's so sad!!

Other than the day sleep issues all is well. Izzy is getting more and more active and scoots around on her back so I can't leave her for long if at all! She loves to sit up now so we bought her a Bumbo the other day and she loves it. The look on her face when we first put her in it was priceless - so excited to be sitting up with us! Thankfully we had the camera on hand so we managed to get some really cute shots.

Izzy also loves to sit in the bath, isn't happy lying down any more! When we lay her back to wash her hair she tries to push herself up to sit! It's a bit unco trying to hold her in a sitting position in the bath but she loves it so Izzy wins, lol. She has started splashing heaps and chasing the bath toys around since sitting in there, it's so cute.

We got into Oceanic Waterbabies swimming classes over here so I'm thrilled. They're extremely popular and I didn't like our chances as I left my run a bit late but I managed to get the last spot for the new term and in the same class as two of the girls from mothers group. Woohoo! We start swimming and Gymbaroo the first week of Feb. Can't wait! We've been swimming each week with mothers group and Izzy loves it. She's so cute in the pool, especially in her teeny tiny bathers!

Izzy is still talking, LOTS, and attempting to roll over. She still hasn't mastered back to front but has gone from front to back several times. She actually really enjoys tummy time but drools everywhere so I invested in some mega-sized bibs yesterday to help soak it all up. Lovely.

We got the houses we offered on the other week so we moving to our favourite suburb soon. Woohoo! We did a subdivision development with our friends this time round (they live in a mirror image of our house next door) so we are doing it again with them. We bought a block each and both blocks have a 2x1 duplex on them which have a common wall. We are going to put a doorway in to join the two lounges and make the house a 4x2 and we'll live in it for a couple of years (just me, DH & Izzy - our friends are staying in their current house) then we'll knock them down and build our dream home. Exciting times ahead!

Just booked our first family holiday. My cousin is getting married in Caloundra in April so we're heading back to Victoria first to do the 'baby tour' so family and friends can meet Izzy then we're going to Caloundra for 5 days then the Gold Coast for 3 days. Hopefully we'll get to relax a bit while in Caloundra (and hopefully Izzy's day sleeps are good again by then so I can enjoy a few ****tails and magazines!).

    Gotta run. BBL for personals

Sangie, yay for new kitchens! It makes such a difference to the house to have a nice fresh kitchen. E is getting to be such a big boy!

Taurean, wtg on getting the new house, sounds huge! Did Izzy enjoy the Jumperoo?

Sanchez, bummer that V won't resettle after the wake up. I can't get A back to sleep in the cot, so as soon as she wakes I just take her to bed for the rest of the night.

A is now 7.4kg which is about what I would expect - the rule of thumb is to be double birth weight at 5 months.
We seem to be past the current sleep problems - she is now going into her cot for day sleeps again and last night she slept from 10pm-7am which was great.

    Hi Everyone...wowza I have missed some **** going down...lol

Indigo had her needles yesterday..2 weeks late...she is 6kgs now so is already more than double her birth weight. This week she has started sleeping 7-8hrs in a row so Im glad it has happened as I was starting to feel very weary!!!

I got the pill this week..it is a low dose combined pill because Im not breastfeeding so just got to wait till next period to start. The thought of being pregnant right now is horrifying!!!

No rolling here..she doesnt get as much tummy time as she should because she gets sat on by the boys..so she is in the Bumbo or Rocker..lots of cooing, smiling, laughing and sucking her hands and holding her dummy etc

Zander was 10mnths before he got his first tooth......every milestone is different for each child. Im not starting solids till Indi seems ready which will be as close to 6mnths as possible...Im not in a hurry to start buying more food.

    Anyway....bye for now

Taurean - you can put Izzy in the bath in the Bumbo. Takes a bit more water but saves your arms! V loves it.

    Talking

    Hi All,
Isn't it curious how most of us are going through this 4 month day-sleep drama? You'd think we could have been warned if its that common... anywho - i hope the fact that several of us are coming out the other end and back to normal day sleeps is reassuring for those still in the midst of it. For me the biggest help was just to go with it and not stress - or come and vent here

Today i calculated how much i've spent on nappies so far - up to 5 months worth has cost me $375. We only use huggies, but i always buy in bulk - and i was fortunate to be able to use the newborn size for ages which are cheaper. Not sure if anyone is using cloth - but hope that makes you feel happy about the initial outlay I don't think i'm going to bother with cloth at all - as T will probably end up in daycare soon and he is a very regular poo-er so I think we'd probably ruin cloth! Lol

Taurean - you have re-inspired me to get swimming. Once we are back from our 2nd holiday we are going to the pools, buying some little swimmers this week I've heard great things about gymbaroo - there is only one in Auckland and its not near me, so think i need to find an alternative option. I'm also wondering about trying Mainly music and/or Rhymes and wriggles. The house sounds great - cool to have a plan laid out in front of you like that, impressive.

Sangie - Ethan is doing well! Nice work. You wont know yourself with a new kitchen - love it! We are off to plunket on Tuesday, but i suspect T is only about 6kg, we will soon see!

Nicola - yay for the bigger sleeps. No doubt that will make you feel much better, i'm tired just thinking about lack of sleep with 3 littlies! Go Indi.

Sanchez - well done on the weight loss, hope you are feeling fit and well too. My tummy is completely different these days - working on getting it back at least somewhat - i'm sure there are muscles in there somewhere! Well done V for rolling - now give your Mum some sleep!!

Ok i just heard lil man filling his pants while laying in his cot, so i'm off. Catch you soon.

I am slack slack slack but with school holidays and three kids on the go I have not had much time to go to the toilet all by myself let alone anything else lol.
I just wanted to say sanchez I started the mini pill and about two weeks later got A.F not happy Jan. So I immediatly stopped and hope that it goes away as I exclusively breast feed. That majority of people that I have read about however do not seem to get it with the mini.

I'm losing lots of hair too but luckily I have heaps of it so it doesn't really matter. Its a PITA having to clean the shower drain more often though cos my hair blocks it up eeewww! I'd forgotten about the 4 month sleep regression but sounds like that is whats happening with a few of our bubs. Ethan is having a good sleeping day today. He slept 1.5hrs in his pram today while I shopped which is a first!

Sanchez - my cousin has a white leather couch that has lovely red pen scribbles on it thanks to her 2 year old DD. She had tried everything to get it off and in the end had to buy throwrugs to cover it lol! Make sure you keep pens out of reach when Violet is on the move!

Evening ladies Sorry have been MIA for a while. Happy New Years to all. I hope you had an eventful one (haha as eventful as it can be with a bubs). Just a quick update then I'll try and get back tomorrow.

We just got back from our 2.5 week Holiday to NZ. Loved every minute of it and it was so sad to leave family etc. Jackson is still very much a cat napper during the day. We had his 4 month jabs today and he was so unsettled this afternoon. So pleased DH is still home with me We have started teething here, no teeth yet but Jackson munches away at anything that goes into his hands, poor mite, makes me wonder the pain he is in sometimes

Sanches I was on the mini pill but had bleeding every 2 weeks, it drove me nuts. So went to the Dr and I now have the Implant in. Its only been in for 3 weeks and Ive had one AF so will see how it goes I guess.

    Welcome to the newbies

Anyways I will leave it there and BBL

Oh wow! I have missed so much i have no hope of catching up!
I've been enjoying my summer holiday with a trip away to the IL's for a week, having BIL and wife to stay, sleeping in, lazing about in the sun and general good times! Can't complain.
Tadhg has been an angel, and I had much praise from my MIL for being so relaxed with T - i think his awesome personality is more related to luck but i'll take it!

To comment on some things which stood out in my review of all posts since i last checked before Xmas!
Art - thanks for the heads up on hair loss, i had noticed it and didnt realise it was a common hormone thing, also explains why my acne shoulders is finally clearing up - woohoo. By the time the scarring goes away it will be winter again, and I will cover up LOL. Also - i'd love to hear about your BLW experiences, I've read the book and we are planning to start fingerfood solids once T is 6 months. He is just starting to take an interest in my food and drinks now (he is 4.5 mths).

Taurean - you might recall about 3-4 weeks ago me complaining about T's sleep's during the day. I definitely think there is a developmental thing that goes on around 4 months, and I'm pleased to say T is back to good sleeping. Still not as long or deep sleeps as when he was newborn - but i can often easily resettle T after a 40 min sleep cycle for another set. Also, it gets easier when they are happy to lie in the cot and talk to themselves, in case Iz isn't already doing that - it wont be far away. It's so cute to hear them wake up and babble rather than cry!

Sanchez - we are quite slow on the development front too, so you are not alone! No teeth, no rolling (apart from 3 random front to backs), no crawling/turning etc, has no idea he has feet (although does like standing on my knee). T is a bit older than most bub's in here (Aug 23rd). He can however talk a lot, with new noises being favourite every couple of days including a girlie squeal atm ;-) and he is really good at gripping things and can now pass my dummy between his hands or hold 2 things at once. I'm not really giving it a second thought as to when he will perfect new skills, just enjoying each thing as it comes along and living in the moment

We just got an exersaucer this week - first attempt T was a little unsure, he can barely touch the bottom on the lowest setting and the toy which plays music is too loud and made him cry, but the 2nd time he was great, smiling and looking at all the toys and even bouncing it a bit! I suspect he would enjoy a jolly jumper but we don't have one - still pondering whether to buy one.

I know i've missed a number of people - but hope all the new years went well and welcome newbies.

Seems like we have hit the 4 month sleep regression too. A won't have day sleeps in her cot atm and is waking early in the night then keeps waking after I have her in bed with me. I hope it passes soon.

BLS, I am struggling to remember what we did lol. I think we started at about 6.5 months after he refused to eat anything off a spoon but happily grabbed food off me and ate it. To begin with we did steamed veges, broccoli, carrots, etc and softer fruits (be careful of banana though, too much can block them up). We have no allergies in the family so I wasn't too worried about introducing dairy or grains, so we did cheese/marmite on toast and just put bits of whatever we were eating on his tray to play with. I know that he was eating curry at 8.5 months (mild Korma). It was really easy, he just tasted everything that we were having for dinner. He didn't really eat much for the first few months but eventually more started going in. He gagged a few times if he tried to swallow too much, but nothing major and very quickly learned not to gob too much at once.

    Hi ladies

I know you've all been experiencing issues with day sleeps recently but am just wondering how many day sleeps you are trying to get your little ones to actually take. And how long you leave them up for before you try to get them to go to sleep or if you just wait for the tired signs. (I know when they were younger it was max of 1.5 to 2 hours up but don't know if there is any rule of thumb for the age they are now).

I normally put Sam down as soon as I see the tired signs or might try if he has been put for 2.5 hours even if he is not appearing to be tired. I am trying to get him to have 3 naps during the day though will leave it at 2 if one has been a very long one. My issue is normally around the third nap and its timing. I don't want it to be too close to his bedtime as then I find it more difficult to settle him for the night.

What are you girls trying to do - even if its not working

    Cheers

NW3 - I will tell you the tizzie routine even though it's not quite working, the nap times are pretty consistent With when she is exhausted.
    Up at 7am & feed........down at 9am for sleep
    11am feed.......down at 1pm for sleep
3pm feed....... 4.30 nap if baby wants it
    5.15 bath......6.30pm feed
    7pm bedtime
    10.30pm dreamfeed

that's the tizzie way! At the moment V is getting the morning sleeps right on time but somedays only does at 40 min sleep and others does the 2hr sleep.
