Hi Girls

Izzy just rolled from back to tummy for the first time! Once she got it she wouldn't stop! Now she's too knackered to get it again and is cracking the right sads. It's so cute but so frustrating for her. She was so pleased with herself when she finally rolled onto her tummy though.

Sanchez - Violets hair is so darn cute! Love the pics on FB. As you would have seen in Izzy's pics, she is still sporting quite a bald noggen. I do love it though and it dries in a flash after the pool or bath :lol: The feeding overnight would suck! Izzy did have a feed at 4.30am the other night but that was the first overnight feed since her 12 week growth spurt. I would be a lost cause if I was in your shoes. Big hugs hon! As for nappies, we have used Huggies from day dot (they don't have Aldi in WA - bugger!) and Izzy is in infants and they are SUPER heavy in the morning. She is in the same nappy from around 6 til 6 or 7 though. We've just bought crawlers so I tried one last night and that was still pretty wet this morning. Lots and lots of wees!

Kelly - very jealous of your nice routine! Our night time routine is awesome but day time sleeps are still all over the place, have been since 15 weeks. :wall: Izzy did sleep for an hour in the pram this morning and has gone back to sleeping in the car so she gets a few cat naps here and there. She's done a few one hour sleeps in the cot in the past week to so I'm hoping it will all go back to 'normal' soon. Oh, did you go swimming?!

Nicola - I've left a carbon footprint too and will probably continue to do so. I seriously considered using MCN but I'm so used to the convenience of sposies that we'll just stick with them. They take up enough room in my nappy bag as it is (cloth would take up far too much room) and I like knowing that they nearly always contain her wees and poos.

Sangie - we move the weekend of the 19 Feb. Mum has been helping pack boxes already so we have done a fair bit already but there is still lots to do. It's going to be full on moving with a baby, that's for sure! Cute re: Ethan catching water in the shower. I've only showered with Izzy once and she did enjoy it but was a bit spun out by it all.

Art - I'm planning on getting a baby bath seat this weekend :D I reckon Izzy will love it. She really enjoys playing with the toys in the bath now. Cracks herself up! Oh yeah, she loves the jumperoo!! She's still a bit small for it so she sucks on the seat a lot. Hilarious. Izzy just hit 6kgs last week so that's double her birth weight at 4.5 months. Yay!! Amelia is such a cutie in all your pics. Both your kids are gorgeous!!

How's everyone else travelling?

We start swimming and gymbaroo the first week of Feb and I can't wait! Not only will it mean we have two outings planned for each week guaranteed (how sad is that?!) but I think both Izzy and I will really love it. I went to the compulsory seminar for her swimming classes last night (yes, a bit full on but they are awesome. Google 'Oceanic Waterbabies' if you're interested) and it was fantastic. Izzy loves our weekly trips to the pool and she's so active and determined that I think she'll really benefit from it. It's going to be so much fun!!

Day sleeps are still random so we're going back to sleep school next week. It's full covered by my private health insurance so I figured we may as well go again and see what tricks we can learn. She does seem to be improving though so I think a lot of it has been the fussiness leading up to Wonder Week 19.

Izzy is chatting lots and has started blowing raspberries the past few days which is super cute. She's a really smiley baby too (despite the lack of sleep during the day!) and people are always commenting on that. As lame as it sounds, I'm going to say it anyway, we are so in love with our little girl. She really is the apple of our eyes.

Speaking of the little miss, it's time she went to bed (she's fed and ready to go but has decided it's time to have a good chin-wag to daddy - adorable). I'm about to become the fun police again. :lol:

I am in here to vent a little......Violet is killing me! Our nights are getting so bad - didn't think they could get worse but they are.
I just don't know what's going on - she is up about 3 times a night, so I feed her but she never goes back to sleep properly. DH and I are getting less and less sleep.... I feel like I am a walking zombie.
We are still cosleeping but tonight I am going to put her in her own cot. Even if she is restless maybe I will sleep through it. It's worth a shot I guess- DH will be at work through the night so even if it is an epic fail at least it will only affect one of us!
I think it is the fact that we had it so good there for a couple of months which is why this is feeling tough. If I never had known how good it was for her to sleep through the night......:)
Hope everyone is fairing better than me!

Hi Sanchez

Try not to stress. I know its hard knowing other babies at this age are sleeping through but not all babies are...if its any consolation Indi is still waking a couple of times a night eg. bed at 9pm wakes at 12pm and 4am and 7am..I also have my boys who sometimes dont sleep through so in-between Indi Im getting up to them. She is sometimes sleeping for 5 hours but it is rare.

Sleeplessness is something I have had to get used to over the past 3 years and can honestly say I have not had more than 6 hours sleep in a row in that time. You just have to try and mentally get around it and take deep breaths often!!! Coffee is good sometimes too.

Are you still wrapping V?? Maybe a move to the cot would be a good idea in her own room - so little noises are not disturbing either of you...we finally made the move a couple of weeks ago and I dont regret it.

Hopefully things will start getting a bit better for you..hang in there..parenting is such an awesome but trying thing isnt it!!

Sanchez - that's really tough hon. So sorry to hear you're going through such a hard time! Babies are known to have a period of sleep regression around 4 months so it could be that. Have you got the book The Wonder Weeks? It's fascinating and makes the tough times easier to get through when you have an insight into what our little babies are going through during a developmental growth spurt.

What else can I suggest? Hmmm...:think: is she getting plenty of milk during the day? I pump it into Izzy during the day and think that is probably one of the reasons she sleeps so well at night. Just a thought though.

Is Violet still in a bassinet? If so, it could be time to move her out of it. We moved Izzy into her cot at 10 weeks, after our sleep school day stay. The middies there said she was probably getting a bit big for it and would most likely be happier in a bed where she could fling around in her sleep without waking herself up. They were right, she slept for 9 hours straight the first night! We also slept alot better too as we weren't listening to her noises all night! We have the Angel Care Sound & Movement monitor too which really gives us peace of mind.

Izzy has woken a handful of times in the past couple of weeks at 4am but has gone back to sleep straight away besides once when I had to feed her. She screams out which scares the hell out of us but she goes back to sleep after a few whimpers. Is it possible that Violet doesn't actually need you and you're getting up to her too quickly?

Have you tried going to a chiro? Izzy was going regularly leading up to Christmas for her reflux and it helped with all sorts of things, including sleep. I've actually just taken her back again today for an adjustment. A chiro that specialises in babies really can work wonders on little ones.

That's all I can think of for now. I hope that's given you some ideas. Know that I'm thinking of you and remember 'this too shall pass' :hug:

Sanchez, how did last night go in the cot? I haven't got much to suggest (since I spent 5 months being woken hourly lol). Some babies prefer there own space rather than co-sleeping - I know that A sleeps much better in the cot but is quite restless and wakes often if she is in bed with us.

Taurean, I have had to put the jumperoo up to the next height because A was all bow legged because she was hanging too low!

A is growing way too fast. She is wearing size 0 body suits now. I am going to have to go shopping for her as she is only just fitting into her 00 stuff. She is 7.6kg and 68cm, which puts her off the chart for her height. She is wearing some hand me downs from DS that he was wearing at 9-10 months!

I am dreading what the night holds for me!

Art - Last night in the cot didnt happen, every time i put her in there she woke up screaming so I gave up. She slept until 2.45am, had a feed and looked as though she was asleep but when i put her down she was up and ready for action. So thanks to the Fisher-Price automatic rocker and baby Einstein DVD she drifted off at 4.30am when he got home from work, the up for a feed at 5.30, and up for good at 7am. Not too bad i guess! I can't believe A is in 0! V is 7kgs and 64cm and she still is hovering between 000 and 00 i am finding.

Nicola - thanks for your calming words! V hasn't been wrapped since about 4 weeks - she is a tummy sleeper. I did try last night to put her in her sleeping bag and that frustrated her more because she couldn't move her legs as much so I ended up taking it off.

Taurean - I think she is getting enough milk - i demand feed and she is still having about 6-7 feeds a day. I am filling faster now she is having more overnight so i am sure supply is fine. She is still co-sleeping and when she wakes up she cries straight away (never used to do that) and so i pick her up and feed her. I will try tonight not to feed her and see what she does. I gave her panadol last night and it didn't make a difference.

I am going to sign off - vision getting blurry am so tired. I will write tomorrow.

Sanchez - How did Violet go last night? The girls have all given you some great ideas, lets just hope that this is just a phase for Miss Violet and that she goes back to sleeping like an angel for you. I was going to suggest that maybe she is teething but if panadol didn't help then maybe not? Does Violet sleep well during the day? Hugs hun, I hope you can at least get some rest during the day.

Art - Ethan is in size 0 bodysuits too. The 00 ones don't do up anymore! He is in 00 for pants/tshirts though. He was 7.73kg at 4 months so not a little guy lol! He has quite impressive rolls on his thighs! I had to go out and buy 0 bodysuits too as I didn't have any. I thought we would get through summer in 00 but Ethan had other ideas!

Taurean - aren't the raspberries cute lol!

Well I can hear my little man now so i better go. Hope you are all travelling along well. Not much going on here - still struggling with day sleeps most days and hoping it improves fast!!!! Apart from that Ethan is such a happy little thing and is always grinning. He loves the Jolly Jumper and starts to giggle as soon as he realises I'm about to put him in it. Be back soon xoxo

Hi girls, i'm in holiday mode - staying at DH's parents while he is working from their office during the day, as we have a wedding this weekend. Its fairly average weather which is good for T's sleeping but not so fun for walks etc in the day. Oh well compulsory quiet time! :)
Sanchez - big hugs, is there anywhere you can go to sleep school near you? Sounds like V has developed some really tricky habits there. I hope I didn't make you feel worse by talking about T's routine - babies are so variable aren't they. The only thing I would suggest is trying for some more day sleeps, even if they are short - its so easy to overstimulate the little ones and that could lead to not sleeping well at night. But I can completely understand that its not easy, especially when you are sleep deprived yourself.

Taurean - i am waiting to swim until we get back home next week - although i am now wondering if T will fit the swim nappies as they are for 7-12kg and T is only just over 6! What are you using for Izzy nappy wise in the pool? Hope the daysleeps keep improving, there are benefits to less sleep - its quite hard for me to go out of the house, T will sleep in the car and pram but not too easily (mind you we just did a 4 hour drive to get here). Isn't it cool to have a smiler, we get lots of comments on smiles and giggles too - they are made for loving, and making Mum's Dad's and Grandparents all soppy!

Sangie - woohoo Ethan! He's growing so well. A lot of little boys we know are packing on the weight too. At least there are lots of sales on at the moment for clothes! We still struggle to fill the 00 (3-6 mths) clothes, so T is in between 000 and 00, a lot of the pants just fall off him because he has a small waist and legs - eg can't fit pumpkin patch 000 jeans yet!

Art - A is just bouncing along huh :) Cool that she is enjoying her jumperoo, does she use her legs much. T loves standing up on my knees or in his exersaucer - he thinks he is so cool. I read this week that you can expect bub to sit up about 5 months - but once again we have no sign of that happening yet.

We may be doing well on sleep but when you sleep all the time I guess its harder to learn to roll / blow raspberries / sit up etc. I almost wonder if T was premature somehow (more than the 10 days early he was born) as he is so small and slow developmentally - but so happy and cute, and he is getting there just slowly :) We are still stuck on wrapping too - we have to wrap him for every sleep or he pulls the dummy out and still can't get it back in, and he wont sleep without the dummy. I think i need to invest in a bigger wrap soon!

Hi all - thank you all for making me feel positive - makes me feel as if I have a team behind me cheering me on!
Last night was a little better - up x3 during the night - i didn't bother even trying her in the cot and i let her sleep in my arms all night. Not great I know - but at least we both got more sleep.

Kelly - there is only 1 sleep school around here, and apparently Violet is nowhere near in a catagory to go - or maybe i should say I am not in the catagory. For babies and women worse off than me. The up side is she is sleeping a bit more during the day....she is having about 3x 1hr naps which is pretty good for her.

My mum brought over some homeopathic tonic that i am supposed to drink 3x day - only 5 mls and will go through my milk and make bub relaxed and me apparently. Tastes like pure alcohol. I asked mum how much alcohol was in it and she said the man said less than a banana......? :o Does that sound weird to anyone else.....random! Anyway worth a shot i guess!

Oh Kelly i was going to say - Violet can only roll......she is way behind in the talking/laughing/rasberries stage - i guess they all do it in their own time.

Oh and i got one of those tommee tippee mesh sucker things and have been letting V have watermelon and mango. I'm not starting solids but i thought ii would give this a go so she can become interested in food.....mango = hard to get out of clothes!

Night all

Hi, just popping in to say hi. I have just read through most of the last month and a bit and it's good to hear everyone's travelling fairly well apart from the sleeping issues. We are pretty much travelling the same sleep wise.

Frazer is now a hefty 9.2 kgs and is just starting to fit in size 1 rompers but mostly 0's for everything else. His 2 bottom teeth came in just after xmas and look super funny when he smiles. He has only just learnt how to roll from back to belly which was weird since he had belly to back mastered at about 11 weeks. He is loving checking out the world in his car seat in my brand new Mistusbishi Lancer Sportsback. We have so much more room for the pram and the shopping now it's great.

He is still having the lovely screaming fits late afternoon before going to sleep which is hurting my ears to say the least. At least he wears himself out I suppose. He is by far the loudest baby I have ever heard as yet.

Have just started introducing some solids here and there, nothing huge just trying to get him use to some different tastes. He doesn't have the tongue thrust reflex which is good and seems to want more but we will just continue to give him little tastes of things and wait a bit longer before introducing them as a meal. Farex did not go down well, though he loves banana, pumpkin and other veges. I am still having a break from BB'ing so please don't think I'm rude if I don't reply to peoples replies.

Sanchez, any luck with sleeping? When she wakes at night do you get up to feed her or just flop out a boob in bed? It is such a pain when they won't go back to sleep. DS has been the worst sleeper ever, you have my full sympathy.

Kelly, A is wrapped too - I can only imagine the drama when I have to start getting her to sleep without it. You can wrap a 13 year old for bed, can't you??

Pooley, F is such a big boy!

Which reminds me of an important tip - banana stains! I only found this out when my little niece slept with a banana one night (?!) and squashed it on my quilt. It now has an non removable brown stain that looks like poo.

Also for anyone introducing solids, banana can cause a bit of blockage so go easy on it for a start.

Amelia is now sitting by herself. She looks very cute.

Art - wow on Amelia sitting up already, clever girl. Ethan is so close. He can sit for a few seconds now and then slowly topples over lol! Poor thing tries so hard to stop himself falling.

Sanchez - how is it going with Violet's sleeping? Those mesh feeders are great. I remember DD loved watermelon in it too.

Kelly - I don't think T is slow developmentally at all, they all do things in there own time and it can literally happen overnight. He sounds so cute!

Yep I can vouch for Art's advice on banana, it can really clog up little ones. I didn't realise and fed DD banana for a few days in a row when she was around 7 months. Poor little thing got very blocked up. Has anyone else started solids yet? We haven't started yet, going to put it off for as long as I can lol! He is definitely interested in food but seems to be quite happy just on milk for the moment.

Pooley - great to hear all is well. Even though 9kgs is only a couple of kilos away from the other bubs it sounds so big. I fear having to carry a 9kg baby.....and as for the effect on my boobs :o

Art- PMSL wrapping a 13 year old! As for V sleeping.....she went down for the night at 4pm by the looks of it, only thing was she didn't have a nappyon so I had to eKe her to put that on so gave her a feed. For sure I am going to be awake at 3am watching baby Einsten! My middle of the night feeding technique consists usually of sitting up for the first one, then I am way too tired so attach her lying down for the others.... But she never gets as good a grip and gets fussy. With my new iPhone sometimes I do a wee bit of facebooking in the wee hours- ridiculous!
Thanks for the banana advice - I would so be the person to ruin the sheets! Yay for A being solo sitter.....so saw that coming after seeing that original FB pic!

Sanchez - glad you got a better night the other night. If co-sleeping helps then don't be worried about doing it - what ever works hon!! How was last night?

Sangie - Izzy is much the same when it comes to sitting. Quickly topples forward and kind of sits in a squashed frog sitting position. She'd be quite good at yoga me thinks! LOL! How's Ethan's day sleeps going now? Ours are improving again - finally! Sending day sleep vibes your way!

Art - I read your thread about your DS' bedtime issues. Hopefully the kiddy gate works. I feel for you. I love getting Izzy to bed early so I can have some down time with DH and a wine or two ;) I feel ripped off when she doesn't go down until 9pm which thankfully is very rare. I hope things improve soon, he's such a gorgeous looking little boy I bet it's hard to stay mad at him!

Pooley - Frazer is a growing machine! Izzy has the same issue with rolling. Had tummy to back rolls sorted weeks ago but now she can get onto her tummy herself, she seems too stable to be able to roll onto her back. It's so frustrating for both of us! I hope she masters it soon.

Kelly - don't worry about T not doing too much just yet. They are all so very different. My two nephews rolled about once each and that was it. Neither crawled or showed much interest in it until about 10 or 11 months then once they did it they got bored within a couple of weeks and decided to walk! Crazy. With regards to the swim pants, we use the Huggies ones with bathers over top as yeah, they are still a bit big for Izzy. I fold the top of them down too so they are a bit tighter around her waist.


AFU - the current score for sleep school is: Izzy 2 / Sleep School 0. LOL! She defeated them yet again but it was actually a really produtive day. I was given a much needed confidence boost which helped me push her a little yesterday resulting in close to a 2.5 hour morning nap! WOOT WOOT!!!

The nurse who looked after us on Thursday really brought Izzy's frustration cry to my attention which was a breakthrough. I knew the cry as she's been doing it when she gets stuck on her tummy or is overtired. I just didn't think to let her whinge a bit as we don't do controlled crying in our house. But as the nurse pointed out, it's not controlled crying. She's not distressed, just a little whingy and mainly because she still relies on me so much to help her out, to get her comfy, to get her to sleep, etc. She finds this terribly frustrating, especially as she is such a determined and active baby (they actually said she's 4 months but wants to be 8 months :o ) so sometimes she just needs to vocalise her frustration and anger then she'll be right. Well it works a treat. She got it off her chest for all of 5 minutes yesterday then off she went. She woke about 40 minutes later and had a few small whimpers then off she went again. I was thrilled! Understanding that cry has made a massive difference to my confidence and attitude in the past 24 hours and I feel like I have some sort of control (and freedom!) again.

We're busy packing this weekend. Only 3 weeks until we move - eek! We've done quite a bit already thankfully.

Gotta run. Izzy is calling!

PS: yes, banana is shocking for staining clothes. My nephews clothes are ruined from banana stains!

All the same here......my perfect baby hasn't returned yet....I'll keep waiting :) the bad tasting stuff doesn't seem to be doing anything.....I googled it and it's name derives from "horse smell".....are you imagining how good it tastes now!
Just came home from a friends who has a 6 week old and they asked me where I have enrolled for kindy :o I was like what I have to do it already, for 2014 :o crazy. I had a look at the website of the one I would like her to go to.....they have a day in October where you line up in the morning and whoever hands in their forms the soonest gets in....apparently it is like lining up for concert tickets with your sleeping bag and camping chairs!

OMG Sanchez, isn't that mad!!! We did consider sending Izzy to a Montesori school where a lot of families enrol their babies while they're still pregnant!! I was a bit worried about schools as a few people have asked where Izzy will be going, including high school! Getting into the right high school in WA seems to be a big deal. I'm from a country town in Victoria so I'm not used to worrying about schools. The public schools I went to were brilliant. Anyway, our new house is in a fantastic suburb and the kindy and primary school are highly regarded plus we are in the zone for the top public high school in Perth so I can stop worrying but I guess I should call the kindy soon. Madness!

Less than 3 weeks til our move. Thankfully we've made a good dent in the packing already. So glad my parents live over here now, they are going to be so helpful getting the new place ready (new carpet and paint) and helping us move.

Izzy finally found her feet over the weekend. It makes for very 'in your face' nappy changes! Thank god she doesn't randomly squirt poos like she did as a newborn!!

Izzy has also taken a liking to flinging and yanking my top or bra while I feed. Very cute but a bit annoying at times! She's so busy when she feeds now and is easily distracted. She's so cheeky that she decides to test out her vocals during her last feed of the day instead of relaxing. It's her ploy to avoid bedtime!! It's so gorgeous causes she uses her really gentle quiet voice and tries her best to get eye contact with both me and DH and busts out a cutesy smile when she does. Switched on cheeky monkey.

Sanchez - your horse fuel sounds delightful. PMSL!

Sanchez - Thinking about kindy now is insane isn't it?? It's not so bad where we are but there are some areas in VIC where you have to enrol your child at birth. My DD is going to 3 year old kinder next year so I'll wait until then before enrolling Ethan. Eeeewwww on the horse smell........glad its you and not me lol! Fingers crossed that your perfect sleeping bubba comes back soon..........hang in there hun, you are doing an amazing job xoxo

Taurean - woo hoo on the great advice from the sleep school. Ethan's day sleeps are still hit and miss but thankfully we are having some better days now. I considered sleep school too but think I'll just wait and let him sort himself out (which is hopefully soon!). It's so much harder to coordinate these things with a toddler too! Good luck with the move and how great that your parents will be around to help. We had our family help us move too last year and it was a godsend when you have a little one to deal with as well.

Ethan gets very distracted during feeding too now. He likes to 'look around' while feeding and tries to take my boobie with him ouuchhhhh :o So now I have to drape a light sheet over him to stop him stickybeaking lol!

Apologies for crashing your thread but your babies are just a few weeks older than mine so you may be able to answer my question.

Just wondering if anyone has tried a jumperoo for their baby for entertainment. My little one loves standing and I thought it might be a bit of fun for him and something different than just standing on mummy tummy! Has anyone tried them and if so what brand and did your little one like them. I am thinking of one of the ones that are in a frame on the floor rather than hanging from the door but open to all ideas and suggestions

Izzy has been in the Fisher Price Jumperoo for about 4 weeks now (I think) and she loves it! She spends more time in it each day and it's really helped with her strength and balance, not to mention wearing her out!

Art's DD also loves the jumperoo (we have the same one) and for memory, Miss A has been in it since about 10 weeks. Miss A is super baby though - very advanced ;)

I'm sure you're little man will absolutely love it! Another idea is an exersaucer/activity centre. Target have a brilliant one which often comes on sale for about $80. You can pick them up cheap online too.

Fisher Price seem to have a couple - Precious Planet, Rainforest and the Delux model. I think you're right and he will love it.

NW3, we've got the Fisher Price rainforest jumperoo. Check out the toys on each one and see which one looks better. If you go to a baby shop you should be able to try him out in them but I'm sure they'll only have the Precious Planet ones as that is this seasons theme for Fisher Price.

Hi NW3, I have the rainforest jumperoo and my DD LOVES it. I think it is better than the doorway ones because of the toys around the edge, so if she gets tired of jumping she stops and has a play with them.

Sangie, I am sooo not looking forward to teeth - DS was terrible for holding on with his teeth and then slowly turning his head away so my nipple was stretched and scraped. Not fun.

Taurean, not much luck for DS's bedtime. I am now sitting in there for about half an hour but I guess it is an improvement on 1.5 hours of tantrum. I cling to the belief that 5 year olds go to bed nicely and sleep through - halfway there!

OMGoodness at having to enrol your kids in Kindy now! DS will be starting later this year and I think we enrol a couple of months before they go! Here Kindy starts at 3, and you pick how many mornings or afternoons per week you want them to go.

We went camping again the other night (time has dimmed the memory of the last disaster) and it was really good. A was perfect, slept well and seemed to enjoy herself and DS had a blast.
We left the veranda part of the tent open and a possum came in during the night and shat on a plate!

Art - PMSL! We used to do a lot of camping and always had fun times with the wildlife. I'll never forget the noise that two randy roos trying to catch the attention of one fine lady roo made in our campsite one night. We all got up to see what the fuss was all about and seriously it was like 'boys, keep it in your pants and get the hell out of here'! We've never heard anything like it!

Tried Izzy on rice cereal on the weekend. She's not interested at all! Might try pumpkin mixed into it on the weekend as frankly, I wouldn't be that wrapped in the rice cereal either. Boring! She may just not be ready so we'll take it slowly.

Not much else happening except Izzy is now rolling in her cot. It's only when she first wakes in the morning and for day naps (PITA!!!) but I was a bit worried about it (because of SIDS) although we have a sound and movement monitor. Anyway, posted on BB and the girls put my mind at ease.

Must be time for bed. I've had a couple if wines and I'm feeling rather chilled. Ahhhh :)

OMG I've had a shocking week with Ethan. He has been so bad, not sleeping then getting overtired and cranky and has even been refusing to feed as much. I took him to the doctors yesterday to get him checked out but they couldn't find anything wrong. Then suddenly today he has been back to normal. So I have no idea what happened :wall: Does anyone know if there is a wonder week around now?? Fingers crossed that whatever it was is OVER lol!

Art - I'm dreading teeth too! We've only just finished with DD (she only recently got her upper second molars) and I bet we won't have much of a break before Ethan starts. Not looking forward to it, DD was a terrible teether. Glad the camping went well but eeewwww about the possum :o

Taurean - How is Izzy going with the rice cereal? It's not very appealing is it lol? My DD would only eat it if I mixed some veg or fruit in with it. Be careful hun as it can clog them up at first. I'm going to start Ethan sometime in the next few weeks I think.

Sanchez - how are you and Miss V going?

Now we're 3 - we have an exersaucer which is heaps of fun. Not quite as active as a jumperoo maybe - but lots of toys to play with and it grows with bub. Depending on the size and strength of your wee one i'd say about 4-5 months is perfect for these standing toys, although i've been advised not to use them for more than about 30 mins a day or they can develop habits of standing on their toes - which makes walking harder.

Art - LOL at wrapping a 13 year old - we are heading in that direction, as sleep definitely doesn't happen when the hands are out. Can't believe the rudeness of your possum visitor! haha Your camping photos do look fun :)

Sangie, thanks - I reckon T is pretty cute - but who knows how blinded by love we are ;-) haha. We are putting off solids for as long as possible too, but i am making plans for buying a highchair etc and i have let T taste a couple of things - marmite (he was closing watching my toast with interest! and loved it), cucumber (wasnt too convinced), gingernut (he grabbed it off me and started sucking it). We are also trying a sippy cup with water - loves the sippy cup, hates the water! Its hilarious seeing his little face screw up 'what are you doing mum - this is not milk!'

Taurean - how are the sleeps going? Hopefully the sleep school advice is still paying off :) Sounds like you've really had a breakthrough with identifying the crying. Funny how they develop these little things! I can only imagine how much more spoilt first babies are with this sort of thing! :) Surviving the packing mission? T found his feet last week too - its cute huh! He thinks its hilarious when i pretend to eat them (sounds crazy when i write it down - but it is funny!) So with you guys on the pulling away from feeding to gurgle, smile and look around, so cute but annoying when you're trying to get somewhere!

Sanchez - Kindy already! Best of luck with planning for the line-up / camp out. I guess i should look into that - i have assumed that because Daycare is so easy to come by at our place, that kindy would be easy too - but i shouldn't assume! We are getting ready for daycare 3 days per week - i'm scared! LOL for V falling asleep without a nappy on :) I hope V starts to give you some sleep soon, sounds like she is starting to get day and night a bit mixed up x

I was wondering about weaning from breastmilk at 6 months, but then got advised solids and formula should be done seperately, as they can both cause tummy issues / reactions etc - and its easier if you know which is the cause. Excellent point, i thought. So I'm contemplating dropping a feed a week... feels like such a big decision! Anyone else thinking about finishing breastfeeding - or done so recently?

Tadhg is having really mixed up naps at the moment. I'm not sure if he is just changing his sleep patterns, or if i've messed up his routine so much on holiday that he is now confused... He's been in bed resting and gurgling away for 1.5 hrs this morning, but no sleep has happened. We are meant to be going out in a few hours so hopefully he copes ok. He may be a good sleeper, but he is fussy - wont generally sleep if i'm out and about, or if he is unwrapped, too warm (tricky when you are wrapped!), missing a dummy, has a burp... the list goes on! Trying to focus on having a happy baby who sleeps at night and not worry about the day sleeps :)

Thanks for all your feedback regarding jumperoo ladies bought one yesterday Precious Planet and bargin Babies Galore had them on sale at half price very happy about that!

Little poppet is probably just a bit small for it as feet dont really touch the floor yet so might be a few weeks of using properly yet. In the meantime guess I can bounce him in it - though this wont really give me the break i need :). He is still just a touch under 6kg at the moment and either 62 or 64 cm depending on whether you take the paeds or health nurses measurements.

Are you okay if i join in on your threads ours is a little on the quieter side a lot of the time?

NW3, feel free to post in here - they used to do the baby buddy threads over a whole birth month but separated them out because they were getting to crowded but now some of the groups don't have much action.

Kelly, A is having about 3 or 4 45minute naps during the day but I am sooo not messing with her sleep because she does well at night. Were you doing formula top-ups for a while? If he was o.k with that then you shouldn't have any reaction to reintroducing formula. I would replace one feed a day with a bottle and work up from there. Is it because you are going back to work? You could still keep a night feed if you wanted - then you still have boobies for emergencies.

Sangie, DS only has 1.5 molars so I imagine that I am going to get a double whammy of teething at some stage. He is such a bad teether too, not looking forward to it.

Taurean, lol at the randy Kangaroos! I was just complaining to my Sept 07 buddies about the lack of interesting wildlife in NZ, I guess the possum took offense!

All is well here with A. She is such a placid lovely little girl. We have started sitting her in the highchair at dinner time and she thinks she is the bee's knees! I love this age. She is so adorable.

Hi all, I reckon i have about 3 minutes to quickly write before she blows her top!

I have resorted to trying to get V into a routine - i realise that its not the end of the world - am trying the Tizzie Hall one. The worst bit i guess is because V has never had to self settle before, the screaming that happens when i put her in the cot is awful! And often I can't last the 12 minutes. I think it is strange for me because i have always fed her to go to sleep and now i am changing that - like i have already fed her and we only just got up - topsy turvy to how i was doing it!
Her sleeping at night hasn't improved but it is only day 2.
She now sleeps in her cot, which has actually been a good break from having her with us.
I did try giving her rice cereal this week - didn't really go down well and it has played havic with her poos!

I have read everyones posts - Kelly how is T doing? I didn't know that about the formula/solids....good to know.
Art - A is just so beautiful....great to hear shes not giving you any grief!

A quick question. Only having put her for the first time yesterday I am now having problems with her rolling and getting wedged in between the bars. Does everyone use bumpers....I thought they were a Sids risk but I definately need something to stop her getting stuck.
I held out for 15 mins that cry....picked her up and she was dead asleep in 1 minute!

I can't write properly.....am talking about having her in the cot for the first time. She is getting stuck in the cot rails.

Sanchez - on my phone so will write more later but yes, there is a SIDS approved bumper called the Air Wrap. Most baby shops sell it. Izzy is rolling in her cot a lot now (and tummy sleeping!!!) but has kept her limbs inside the cot so far. She sleeps in Grobags though so it's only her arms that could get caught. I'm sure it will happen soon enough though so we'll get the Air Wrap

I have to say I'm not a fan of Tizzie and her strict routine but it sounds like maybe it's helping V, yeah? A girl in my mothers group has used that routine since day dot and swears by it. I've been thinking of you and hoping things improve soon. You're doing an awesome job and despite the sleep deprivation, you're still writing hilarious posts! Hang in there, I feel the end is in sight!!!

PMSL Taurean..... Certainly no judgement here. Yeah look it was only because a friend popped over with the book and she is attempting Tizzie with a 12 month old. The whole time schedule has been quite easy, no probs going betwen feeds ect.....the only problem is being put in the cot to self settle and look I am not following her advice to a tee but I would like V to learn to settle herself.
I'll tell you In a week what I think of Tizzie! Might be telling her to shove her words up her ****!
V just woke up and me an Dh were lying here trying to assess whether she has pyscological trauma from me letting her cry!

I have been sticky beaking in here over the past few days as our thread is really quiet. Interesting to hear a few of you are also having bub rolling problems in bed. Do you think our bubs are rolling whilst asleep or waking and then rolling?? Whatever it is its frustrating. I had to get up 4 times last night to flip Jaida back again. Jaida rolls to the left so we thought about sleeping her close to the left rail but I too am worried she would get stuck. We dont wrap Jaida's arms anymore so atleast she can lean on her arms if need be but she doesn't realise she can put her head to the side to rest. We are doing 'rolling back practice' at tummy time but she hasn't connected this at bed yet. Very much open for suggestions - as I am lacking sleep today :wall::wall:

Another question - are any of you losing hair significantly. I used to have long thick hair but now I have long thin hair. Everytime I brush or wash my hair huge handfuls of hair comes out. I dont have bald patches though. I know hormones are going back to normal levels but I would have thought this would have sorted itself out by now.

Like Now were 3 I might pop in from time to tim as well if you dont mind:lol:

Sanchez - sounds like you have a very determined little princess. You gotta what you gotta do hey? I hope it works out for you and that V learns to self settle. I generally have to rock Ethan to sleep but sometimes he will self settle. Fingers crossed he gets the hang of it. Check out those air wraps as Taurean suggested. My SIL has one for her DD and its worked a treat for them.

Easha - I'm still losing lots of hair too, lucky I have heaps of it so you can't really tell but it is a pain having to constantly remove if from the shower drain :wall:

Art - your DD is such a cutie. I can imagine that she would love being in the highchair. I can't wait to get Ethan into it so he can sit up with us at dinner time. I reckon he'll love it too!

Now we're 3 - great that you got a bargain on the jumperoo. We have a jolly jumper and Ethan absolutely loves it. He is still trying to bounce long after I take him out of it :lol:

Gotta go can hear my boy now and he's probably hungry. Has anyone else started solids yet? I'm thinking of starting in another 2 weeks when E hits 5.5 months old. I'm thinking of skipping the rice cereal and going straight to vegies?! I know my DD hated the rice cereal and it was a waste in the end (can't say I blamed her, not very appetising!).

Sangie - I've tried Izzy on rice cereal a few times in the past week and she's not overly impressed so I'm thinking we might try some pureed carrot or pumpkin next. If she likes that then I'll mix in some rice cereal so she gets the benefit of the iron in it.

Sanchez - LOL! You really do crack me up! I love that you're going through so much crap but can make jokes about it. If it makes you feel any better, I rock or feed Izzy to sleep. She can self settle but generally refuses to do it during the day so I settle her. It can be annoying at times but most of the time I really enjoy it. I realised I was trying to get her to self settle as others were making comments about how difficult it will be for others to babysit her. I realised how stupid I was listening to them as why should I change our little habits just so those who might babysit her are happy?!

Easha - You are more than welcome to join us! I love our group and having a good chat about our babies so the more the merrier. As for tummy rolling, I did spend 2 hours checking on Izzy between 3 and 5am on Thursday night to make sure she was ok and I rolled her onto her back a couple of times but she just rolled straight back onto her tummy. I did a bit of Googling at 4am and realised that I can't control it and if she's strong enough to get onto her tummy by herself, she's strong enough to get her head to the side. I also have the Angel Care Sound & Movement monitor so that gives me peace of mind.

NW3 - yup, join our thread! We like a good gasbag in here so you're most welcome. I have a rug folded up under Izzy's Jumperoo as she can't touch the ground and that works a treat. She has always been strong in her legs but they are super strong now. People always comment on her strength and I think the Jumperoo has really helped. It also keeps her occupied for a good 20 minutes :)

Art - I'm with you, I'm loving this age! Izzy is just getting cuter every day and she's so interactive now. I wish I could just bottle her up at this age. It's gorgeous!

AFU - My hair loss isn't too bad really. I don't think it's any different to what it was before and during pregnancy to be honest. I don't think my hair changed that much during pregnancy though.

We spent the day on DH's boss' boat yesterday and it was fantastic. We had lunch and drinks at one of the islands not far off the coast then we moored in front of the city for wine and cheese late afternoon. It was bliss! Izzy loved it too and was such a good girl. She just fed and slept and smiled and talked to everyone! Very cute. We had a party at our neighbours last night which was really nice too and little Iz just slept in the sling the whole time. What a great day!

We still aren't having much luck with day sleeps in the cot but she's getting some naps in while we are out either in the car, the pram or the sling. She's still doing 10-11 hours straight overnight so I'm very happy with that.

Izzy really knows what she wants now and it so damned determined. She just went spastic at DH for putting her in the sling when she just wants to stand and chat! Hilarious!! We've got our work cut out for us though.

Well I'd better get myself in the shower seeing it's almost lunch time :shakehead: What a ferral I am!

PS: we have a tummy sleeper! She started rolling throughout the night on Thursday. She's been on her tummy the past three mornings when I've gone in to get her. She loves it. There is no stopping her now, she's finding her independance!!

Welcome Easha - Jaida is such a pretty name. We don't have a rolling baby yet and he's still wrapped so I can't help you with that one yet! But my hair is definitely still falling out, its been about a month now - i still seem to have plenty, but its clogging up my shower and hairbrush. i'm not complaining because i have finally recovered from the pregnancy acne i had on my chest and back which i'm guessing is related - so yay.

Sangie - we just ordered a highchair online so will start offering solids soon and i'm going to try veges first and see what happens. Is E still sleeping ok now he got past that tricky bit?

Taurean -totally agree, 5 mths is such a cute age - they are so smiley happy and interactive - but friends of mine keep telling me it just gets better, so i think we have a lot to look forward to - let alone enjoy now! Your day out boating sounds awesome - so cool that Izzy just went along with it all :) We are getting the determined little grizzles now too - especially after reading the favourite book (which he turns the pages for) we have to keep reading it over and over haha, he is also really into looking at magazines.

Sanchez - good on you for trying the routine out. I have read the Tizzie Hall book, and although our routine is less strict I think the general idea is great - and once you have done the hard yards hopefully you can tweak it to suit too. I'm sure it wont be easy, but you are always so positive - i hope it works for you both xx Big changes for you guys! I dread to think of the effect of solids on poos! Are you trying more baby rice or something else? Out of interest are you trying because she is extra hungry or just to see how she reacts?

Art - yep we have done formula top-ups in the past, and still do sometimes at night, and he seems to be getting a bit better - they used to make him quite burpy and spewy. I have tried replacing the lunchtime feed with a bottle and it seems to be going ok so far. I am weaning him because I think he has got the best part of breastfeeding now he is nearly 6 mths, he will be in daycare soon, my milk supply is a bit low and he is getting annoyed while feeding - not to mention distracted. It's strange i've been using nipple shields for over 5 mths and last week he decided he didn't like them anymore and refused to feed unless it was skin to skin, which he is managing ok now (yay) apart from pulling off all the time - which i think is a combination of distraction, slow milk and just easier feeding direct on the nipple. He is ok for the first couple of minutes then its just annoying. I figure he gets a good morning feed, formula at lunchtime and a topup in the evening if he wants it - so 2 smaller feeds a day is probably fine anyway - i'm not going to fight him. I'm assuming A is perfectly happy with only 3 short naps during the day? or does she get a bit cranky?

AFU - Tadhg seems to be needing a bit less sleep - with only 3 sleeps and a "rest" the last 2 days. Which is a bit disconcerting - i am nervous if he is up too much he will get overtired and not sleep later or get cranky - sometimes its hard to tell if he is just not sleeping due to wind or the heat so i generally leave him in his cot anyway - which he is usually ok with, interspersed with a few grizzles. Moving on with the weaning, I was thinking of dropping our 6pm feed next - but now T is being fussy about the feeds I'm finding my BB's quite sore in the morning as it is - so will see how we go over the next couple of days. Maybe i will drop the 3pm one instead.

Kelly, yip, she is happy as larry with her short naps. After two kids I still don't really understand the overtired thing - they are fine, then tired/grumpy and then they go to sleep.

Easha, welcome. I have lost quite a bit of hair and have bald spots on my temples. Luckily the rest of my hair falls over it so you can't tell. It happened last time too.

NW3, glad your bub liked the jumperoo. A loves hers and she bounces so high she hits her head on the dangling frog which she thinks is really cool.

After researching and looking at all the recommendations, A had her first solids yesterday - Ice cream lol. I was eating one and she grabbed my hand and helped herself! So later I gave her a bit of marmite cruskit to suck on. She isn't overly keen so I think I will just offer her whatever we are having if she shows an interest.

Art - I meant your ticker pic! I'm not on FB despite a million people asking me why not lol :redface: One day I'll get around to it! He he on the ice cream, did she enjoy it?

Kelly - Are you going back to work soon? Great that you have ditched the nipple shields. I understand about the distraction, E is the same. I put a light wrap over him so he doesn't look around while eating. Yes Ethan's sleeping has improved so much over the last week. He still sleeps 11 or so hours overnight and has been having 3 day sleeps. Two of them are around 45 mins and he has a bigger sleep of around 1.5hrs at lunchtime. Please please let this continue lol :pray:

Taurean - Sounds like you have a very determined little girl there, wait until toddlerhood lol! Yeah rice cereal isn't very exciting. The Rafferty's garden cereals are more exciting and they also have iron in them. They come in multigrain with banana and apricot and I think they have a banana porridge too. I don't think they are recommended until 6 months though. My DD used to love them and I'll probably get some for Ethan too.

Hi Easha, welcome...so exciting having newbees to chat with. Congrats on Jaida. As for your hair loss question.......mine is coming out by the bucketload. I finally went and bought a dust buster because i was sick of pulling out the big Vacuum to clean up my hair. Especially blow drying and straightening......I can't believe i have any left on my head!

Sangie...I did try the rice cereal last week, but decided not to keep going. Will give her another couple of weeks and will start on veges...think i will go through the bought stuff and find out what she likes before i start steaming and stewing and freezing!

Taurean...i am some what green eyed when i see you are getting 11 hours a night :o
I was there - i didn't cherish it as much as i should have! And then i lost it! How is the house packing going? We bought an investment house last week.....so i am in the midst of figuring out how to be a property manager. As DH said - that can be my new yearly wage....i think it comes to $3000 :o:o:o Giving me something to do though.

Kelly - good luck with the weaning....I bet your BB's are a bit tender. That is great he is happy with his lunch time bottle and amazing you have got rid of the nipple shield! Just in time for the weaning! Are you heading back to work soon? I can't believe 6 months is just around the corner....i was just thinking how i remember the labour just like it was yesterday......

Leading up to my due date I had put an application on my DH's iphone called the contraction counter. Basically you hit start and stop at the beginning/end of the contractions and it times it and tells you how far they are apart yada yada yada.So i am in labour and my beloved DH is watching me like a bomb about to blow with his iphone ready for action. I notice that hes not pushing the buttons with the contractions though. My next contraction comes and i am breathing heavy and grimicing....and i look up at him and he looks so intently at me saying "now, do i push it now to start, are you having a contraction?" i think i yelled some comment about being an idiot and how can you not work out that i am in pain. When the contraction was over and i looked at him he still had that intense look and says "now, do i push it now to stop, is it finished?". I almost threw his phone out the window. Hence that was the only contraction it ever timed.....funny times!

AFU - The Tizzie Hall boot camp has had an off day today. She refused to sleep and i gave her a bath at 5.30pm and she pretty much fell unconcious straight after. I was standing with my DH holding her after the bath and she was looking down and i asked him what she was looking at. He assured me she was staring at his feet. After about a minute I looked at her and she was fast asleep. My DH makes me laugh!
So we are all surviving in my camp. You have to have the laughter, especially when the times are tough, or else you would never survive :)

Thanks for the advice re: hair loss - good to know there isn't anything to worry about. I too went and bought a hand held vac to get rid of it.

Taurean - looks like I have a tummy sleeper too. Jaida was on her tum last night and I turned her back. She woke 3 times last night though to be flipped back. Jaida is obsessed with rolling on her tummy during the day too. Once she is there she whinges about being there so we help her roll back and within 2 mins she is back on her tummy again :wall::wall:. I suppose at least she will eventually pick up how to roll back.

Kelly - Jaida's sleeping less and less during the day as well. I still put her down after a lunch feed but she just lays there listening to her music. Atleast she is 'resting' so to speak and I get 30 mins to do house work etc before she fusses too much.

Artechim - icecream - :lol::lol: how funny. I had a glass of pepsi max the other day and Jaida was staring at it so intently so I dipped my finger and gave her some. Yummy !! Although soft drink isn't what I want to her to drink at all.

Sanchez - told DH about the contraction application - he wants it for our 2nd child. :shakehead: Men and their toys.

How are you ladies filling your weeks?? I am sort of bored but unsure whether Jaida will cope with going out all the time. There is only so much TV one can watch
