Babies born~September 1st-15th 2009 #2

I am so amazed at the difference between boys and girls! Miss A is already obsessed with the cat and dog - she squeals with delight if the dog gets close enough for her to touch. And if I let her pick a toy off her shelf she always goes for a cutsie stuffed toy and hugs it. Very cute.

We are going well with solids. She wasn't really eating anything and was gagging if anything solid went in her mouth but the last few days she is actually starting to swallow it.
She seems to have dropped a day sleep so she is getting by on two quite happily now.

Sorry about the lack of personals, but it is 11pm and I should go to bed before one of them wakes up...

Just jumping on to say a quick hello should be ironing for the trip but hey this is much more fun!

Art you are not wrong with the obsession with animals. Sam just follows our dogs every move that he can see and reaches out to touch him when he comes near. He just laughs and laughs when the dog does something silly. The dog is very good with him and likes giving him little licks. I am sure the dog is hanging out for when we take the next step on solids when he will be required to help clean up! Well done Miss A with regards to solids. Hope she continues to like everything you are giving her.

Easha congrats on Jaida liking and taking to solids. BLS must be so like breast feeding with not knowing how much they are actually taking. Glad to hear you are both being social butterlfys!

Taurean hope things are good with you and that you have recovered from the storm. Bummer about the cars so hope it won't cost too much to repair.

Kelly keeping my fingers crossed for you regarding the non wrapping. Sounds like you are slowly but surely getting there. Sam was great with getting used to it really quickly. The Merino sleep sack sounds lovely and cuddly. And I hadn't heard about the mittens before. Guess our weather has been pretty warm here so we haven't had to worry about cold. We put air con into his room (yes I know very spoilt baby) so even when it is very hot or cold we can keep temp the same. I know what you mean about some feeds being more snack like. If I count every time I offer Sam is probably still taking six feeds most days. Maybe even 7 on some. Guess this could be put down to six month growth spurt though? I am trying now to stretch him out inbetween his feeds to see if he will feed better though little tyke still doesn't really like to let you know if he is hungry or not. Oh and he obviously gave up on the early morning idea as has now gone back to waking at somthing with a 7 in it.:)

Sangi and Sanchez hope you and bubs are both good. Anything exciting to talk about on your ends?

AFU. Well only two days to go now. Frantically trying to pack and make sure that I am thinking of everything we need. Hopefully little Sambo will like the plane and will be a good little boy and sleep lots for us. Everyone at home is very excited about the trip but I don't think that either my husband or myself feature in any of their excitement. Its all about Sam but I guess I might as well get used to that - will be that way for the rest of our lives!

Will have some access when i'm away but not as much so hope you and your bubs keep good and look forward to catching up with you all on our return.

Hi girls. Have been extremely tired and run down atm as Frazer has been a bit snotty and coughy the last 2 days. Took him to the docs today and he has Bronciolitus (sp?) and a middle ear infection. Wondered why he has been waking up screaming his last couple of sleeps. Apparently it hurts when they are lying but fine when they're up right so I have been trying to get him to have his naps on his back in his rocker or propped up on a pillow. She said his breathing is very shallow and his chest is weasy so if he gets any worse should take him to the ER. Hopefully the antibiotics will help. He is abnormally chirpy for a sick bub but it's getting him to sleep that was the issue, nice to know why now though.

Frazer is trying really hard at the crawling thing but just gets tired and ends up flopping on his belly upset. Hard to see him get frustrated when you can't help him. Just doesn't get the arm movements and is doing more of a "push up" move which is hilarious to watch.

Looks like solids are going pretty well in here. Frazer hates baby yogurt and isn't liking many of the 6mths + jars of food that contain chicken or beef. A quick question though. Is anyone getting their bub vaccinated against swine flu?? DH is yet to have his and I had swine flu while I was pregnant but wasn't really sure if it's necessary/called for children?? I want to do the right thing but I'm just not sure about what that is atm? Every doc has a different opinion so who do you listen too?

Pooley - if it helps, here in NZ i didn't even know there was a swine flu vaccine being offered, let alone for babies - so maybe its not that important if the NZ govt isn't advertising it? I may be wrong - but we wont be vaccinating T, also I think the hype of Swine Flu may have been overdone? Obviously really scary, especially when you got it :( But possibly not quite as big of an epidemic as they thought?
Funny how F isn't into the meat baby food, have you tried any fish? We gave T tuna last night, as we were having some and he loved it. He might get used to the taste and texture after a few more tries?
Poor wee thing with that nasty infection :( Hope he recovers quickly x

AM - yay, so exciting! I hope you guys have an awesome time away and Sam goes along happily :)

Art and Easha - glad to hear solids are going well. Not sure about you, but every now and then i worry whether he is getting enough. Seems silly and illogical considering he can have as much milk as he likes, he's not acting hungry, sleeping fine and growing big!
In fact T is 7.75kg now, yay - so really moving up on the percentile graph to about 20th % instead of 3%.
We just had our first swimming lesson - and it was so much fun. I thought we'd take it easy as pools are loud and its all so different, but he was great. Had a few unintentional face dunks and splashes with no crying, and he did lots of kicking and splashing. So i've signed us up for weekly classes now - so much for my plan to do it all myself, sometimes its easier just to go with the easier option! This pool is about 3 minutes drive from us, a special kids lessons pool, it has a baby change room (Taurean our change shelf/mats are enclosed with a wooden side, and you change bub sideways - not that easy, but i think much harder to roll off) and a padded playpen in the adults change room, so i'm happy.
The un-wrapping process is going along nicely. We have had a few nights of sleeping with both arms out of the wrap, so hopefully we are ok with that now. Daysleeps are not so easy - he just wants to play if he is not wrapped. I've only managed to get him to sleep twice with no wrap, and both times he woke 30 minutes later - hmm might take a bit longer. We are going away tonight for 2 nights, so will be interesting to see if he can manage no wrap in the portacot! Saturday night we are at a wedding - so he'll probably have to sleep in the buggy, wish us luck!

NW3 - have a great trip. I'll look forward to hearing all about it!

Pooley - I hope Frazer has recovered, nothing worse that a sick bub. Makes you feel so helpless, poor little guy. We haven't started on meat yet but keep persisting, sometimes it can take a while for them to get used to new textures/flavours. We won't be getting swine flu vacc for Ethan. None of us have been vacc'd for it. Our thinking is the same as Kelly's, I think its been a lot of hype for something that is not an epidemic. Obviously very scary if you do get it but we aren't too worried about it. But obviously each to their own!

Kelly - great that swimming went so well, sounds like you have a little waterbaby! We haven't started Ethan yet but plan to do so sometime this year. Ellie is going to be moved up to the next class sometime in the next few months (the one with no parent) so we are hoping then that Ethan can take her spot in the parent/child class. Well hopefully anyway!

Art - great that A is getting into solids now. Ethan absolutely loves his food, there's no stopping him now. He cries if he sees his big sister eating and he isn't. He is fascinated by the dog too, well actually any animal. Probably wondering what the hell it is hahaha!

Easha - yay that Jaida is going so well on solids too! Well done on being social butterflys!

Taurean - wow on Izzy! Is she crawling now? Hope all is going well with the new place!

Ethan's teething necklace arrived (thanks Kelly I got it from NZ!). I think it looks really cool lol! Ethan has been really unsettled this week and not sleeping so well. Have no idea why :wall: He also has dropped a day sleep so now he has 2 instead of 3 so maybe that is mucking him up a bit. Apart from that we are doing well. He is a foodaholic and is saying lots more different sounds now (mama and baba are the most used!).

Hi Girls!!

We are still waiting for our damn phone to be connected (withdrew our iinet application today and have gone back to Optus) but it shouldn't be too much longer - I hope!

Pooley - I hope Frazer is feeling better. Izzy hasn't been sick yet (touch wood) but I'd imagine it would be pretty tough. As for swine flu, DH and I had the vac but we aren't getting Izzy done. We are considering getting the normal flu vac for her though as we are flying east for hols soon and she's bound to catch a cold from the dodgy plane air.

Sangie - Ethan sounds like he has 'mama' well and truly mastered! Izzy talks a LOT but we can't make any sense of it yet. It does sound like mama when she's whingy and calling out for me though :)

NW3 - have a fabulous trip!!! I bet packing was tough! We are going to Vic and QLD in 3 weeks time and I'm already dreading packing.

Sanchez - hope you're doing ok hon. Hopefully Violet's sleep patterns have returned to normal

Art - I can't stop laughing at the sand in the poo comment! PMSL!! Glad to hear A is swallowing some real food now and not just sand. LOL!

Kelly - yay for swimming!! It's great fun, isn't it? Izzy LOVES her swimming lessons and is doing brilliantly. She's been under several times now and can't get enough of it. Your facilities sound great for mums & bubs! We pay a lot for the course I just wish they could get the facilities right.

Easha - sounds like Jaida is getting into her solids too. Can't wait to hear what your family has to say when they see her in action.

AFU - Izzy seems to have finally settled into her new room. She waking between 6 and 7 but is going down a lot easier, around 7.30. She woke again last night at 1ambut I blame our window for that - it flew shut in the breeze and scared us too!!

Solids are still going well and Izzy's bow had avocado, beef, chicken, zuchini, red cappo, mango and Greek yoghurt as well. She's such a good eater! I've made up a lot of different purees and frozen them. She has 4 cubes per meal. Sometimes I mix in rice cereal, sometimes youghurt. She's a piggy!!!

Izzy is sitting unassisted now and she LOVES that too. She's still trying so hard to crawl bur no such luck yet. She can stand with assistance though which is freaky! She loves standing up to het activity table and making lots if noise. My god she is vocal.

Had a scary moment the other week (most of you know from FB) - Izzy rolled off the change table at swimming. It scared the hell out of me and I think I was more shocked than Izzy!! After a quick cry she had a good feed then swam, very happily and it happened to be her best efforts yet! Although she seemed fine, I took her to our doctor that night but she checked out fine - thankfully!

I've gotta run girls as I'm falling asleep while I type!! Will be back as soon as I can

Izzy has her first tooth!!! It wasn't there this morning and had arrived by dinner time. She wasn't fussed at all either - amazing! I discovered it while feeding her dinner, thought it was something from her dinner. What a trooper, I can't believe she wasn't fussed!

I'm so proud which is stupid really given we all grow teeth. I'm sure you girls understand though ;)

Wow go Izzy! Of course you should be proud Taurean, I'd be stoked if mine cut a tooth in a day with no fuss! Fingers crossed the rest of her teeth pop through so easily! Oh and can she have a word to Ethan (I'd love it if his were just as easy hahaha! Now that I've said that his teething will probably be a nightmare lol!)

Hi Everyone

Indi's amber necklace arrived she is wearing it around her wrist as its long on her (she is small) and when she is on her tummy it seems to hang and the boys want to grab it etc. Im not sure if its working or not yet...there hasnt been any miracles since she has been wearing it anyway.

We will be getting the seasonal flu vaccine again soon and this year it includes the swine flu vaccine so you dont have to get two separate needles. I think we will all get it this year including Indi as its safe for over 6mnth olds (safer than them getting the flu)..just for that extra peace of mind during flu season..and the way I see it, its there for a reason and I want to do what I can to prevent my kids getting sick.

Anyway my Platinum membership expires on 1st April and Im not sure if Im going to rejoin as we are in the middle of sorting our finances out...we have had to get a substantial loan from my parents and we are on one income and probably will be for another few years..so we are trying to cut back and save...which is a foreign concept ha ha

Hi girls

Just a very quick hello from a freezing cold and wet England. We made it over here safely with Sam appearing to enjoy his first plane journey. Nothing like making the first one of the longest you can possibly do! He was really good on the flight and had some good sleeps. Singapore Airlines were great and gave us the stroller back when we landed in Singapore so I was able to get him to sleep in the airport too. Fingers crossed the other ones will go just as well as this time will be just me and him on our own - yikes.

Weather over here is atrocious - was 3 degrees at lunchtime today with biting wind and rain. My poor little Aussie boy won't know what has hit him! Apparently there is more snow forcast and my parents in Ireland said it had snowed there though it wasn't sticking.

We are slowly getting over jet lag though not to certain I will get over Sam waking in the middle of the night! I had got so used to him sleeping through that it is real shock to the system when he wakes at 2 am for a feed!

Ummmmmm I am confused as to why I didn't know that people had been writing in here - usually I get an email. I was coming in to the get the gang writing again but low and behold you have been here all along!

Taurean am amazed you have a silent teether - how good is that. I think V has a tooth? I can't see because she won't open her mouth but I candefinately feel something sharp.
We are battling the flu here....V has it AGAIN. Makes you wonder if it is something I am doing making her sick. But I have it this time as well, I tell you it is hard work feeling like death and trying to look after a baby.
Nothing really new with us, she can sit up, has started to pull herself up onto things, has started to get onto all fours but then goes backwards and usually falls on her face. Still not really talking, squeals but no actual sounds like ma or ga....is V the only one not getting that?
I turned her to forward facing in the car and it is a godsend, I don't have to listen to her scream anymore! Is like a new baby in the car.
As for me AF returned (for the life ofme I can't work out what that stands for - bet it is something simple though!).....I must say I am surprised as I am boob feeding so often. I have started to put a weaning plan inaction as I head back to work soon and v is still a disaster when it comes to bottles and being without mum!

Anyhoo I better get some sleep.....just wanted to say hi to all and now I know your all here I will be back to regular writing!
Happy Easter everyone. Mmmmmm chocolate.

Hi everyone. Have been trying to catch up on house hold stuff the last week and getting ready for holidays and haven't postes since Frazer was admitted.

Early last Saturday morning after a terrible sleep rooming in with him, his breathing got very laboured and his wheazing was worse overnight. The GP said if I got worried at all to take him to the ER so we did. He was admitted and than transferred to another hospital close by for observation. Apparently day 3 of Bronchiolitus is the worst day and since he was already pretty bad and it was only Day 2 he was kept under observation and we stayed Saturday night. They thought he may have needed oxygen overnight but it turns out even with the terrible wheazing and unsettled night, he didn't need any. He was given some medicine with an oxygen mask twice while he was there to break up the mucous and help him breathe better and it was terrible. DH had to restrain him while I held it over his face for 10 mins. He got so worked up about it that he sweat through DH's shirt and went all red. I couldn't do the 2nd one on Sunday it was just too distressing to watch but apparently he took that one better than the first.

Anyways, they say he will continue to have a cough for 2 weeks but is back to sleeping normally and also cut another tooth in hospital which now makes 5! and the 6th looks like it's not far away. He also kindly passed on his lovely bug to me and DH and we have had a pretty rough week all round.Thank god for Easter school holidays.

I will be back on soon for personals when I have some more time. Everyone sounds like they have made their decision about the S.F vaccine, now DH and I have to make our minds up...

Oh Pooley thats awful - poor little Frazer.
Seeing your bub so helpless is so traumatic for parents I reckon.

Is Bronchiolitis something that Frazer will get now from time to time or is it a one off thing? Is it different from Bronchitis?

Sanchez, we turned the carseat around the other day too. It makes a world of difference for them to be able to see you and not grizzle and scream the entire time! A has only just started saying mmmmm, mim etc, she isn't really much of a babbler but then neither was DS and he was talking in sentences by 17 months. BTW, AF stands for Aunt Flo

Kelly, don't worry too much about how much T is eating - they say 'food is fun until they are one'. Until then they get most of their nutrition from milk. A plays around a lot with her food but she isn't even eating enough to change her poo (which I am in no hurry to change lol)

Hi all - greetings from a very wet and cold England.

Art hope you and A are good. She must love her new car seat position facing forward and being able to see what is going on with the world. I will have to change Sam into his car seat when we get back. We had been using the capsule until we went away. Did you make the change when she turned 6 months or wait until she was able to sit up unassisted?

Pooley you poor thing. It must be so distressing when your baby is sick and you can't make them better. Hope all 3 of you are feeling bettern soon. What is the difference between the two as I had never realised there were two different things.

Taurean go Izzy. I think after the rough start you two had you deserved an easy run on something and teeth is fairly up there in relation to babies being distressed. I am so with you on being proud even if it is something that we all do.

Sanchez hope you are all feeling better soon. I am dosing myself on vitamin c to try to make sure I dont get a cold. I managed to avoid getting one when pregnant but can image how tiring it would be to look after a baby when you are feeling sick yourself.
AF came back for me month before last when Sam turned 5 months but haven't go it this month yet so not sure what is happening there. Like you was surprised when she showed up given I was/ am bfing 5-6 times a day? Who knows!

Kelly hope you and T are doing good. Have been meaning to ask where or why did you choose the name Tadhg. I know it of course being Irish but how come you choose it. I love it as a name BTW.

Sangie keeping fingers crossed that Ethans teeth will come through with no fuss.

AFU well obviously spoke waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too soon about Sam appearing to settle into new time zone. He was up 5 times last night and looking for food most times. I am not sure what the cause was don't think it is still jet lag but he may have been out of sorts as we had done long car journey down to in laws. Could also be growth spurt and I think he is also teething. Lots more drool, gnawing on absolutely everything and little cheeks are very red and slightly swollen. I am giving him Bauers Teething Tonic which seems to help It is natural medicine so don't feel bad about him having it. Fingers crossed tonight will be easier. I am soooo tired. He never did this a baby so complete shock for me.

Sam currently is learning to sit. He is managing a little bit longer each day. I really want him to have it mastered by the time we fly home as will be much easier if he can sit in bassinette for some of the time rather than on my lap. He really doesn't seem to be interested in crawling or indeed rolling. We do heaps of tummy time but just not interested. Any ideas of things I can do to encourage him or just let him go at his own pace?

We are having a great trip and Sam is a big hit. He was fascinated by his 3 year old cousin who were staying with for the last few days and just laughed and laughed at anything Harry did. Made feeing a bit interesting though when you have a 3 year old insisting on sitting RIGHT besides you as you try to feed a very easily distracted 6 month old. We are down with my in laws now so he is getting heaps of attention which he is loving!

Okay best go back in a be sociable - needed a little bit of me time and here is a good place to go.

NW3 - Stay warm!!!! I hate the cold so I don't envy that part. How is Sam adjusting to the new time zone. I know what you mean about getting used to sleeping through. E occasionally wakes up overnight and it really knocks me for six when he does, I'm so used to a full nights sleep now. Hope you guys are having an amazing time!!!

Sanchez - Have you started weaning? I have with Ethan, he gets two bf's a day now and two formula feeds. Seems to be happy with that so I'm sticking with it for a while. Hope you guys are over the flu. I can tell you that its definitely not anything you are doing, kids pick up every bug going around! Did you find out if V does have a tooth??

Art - I had a little giggle at your 'food is fun before 1' comment. While that is supposed to be true it definitely isn't in this household. Ethan is very serious about his food lol! He will often cry when he's finished all the food on his tray cos he wants more!

Not a lot going on here, seem to be just going through the motions! Ethan is being more vocal now and is saying dada as well as mama. Still no teeth but he definitely has teething signs and I can see his eye teeth bulging (funny if they come through first, I'll have a vampire baby haha!). No crawling here either but lots of trying and getting very frustrated when he can't do it. We are going to an orthotic clinic next monday to get his flat head measured and assessed for a helmet - I'm still in two minds about it. Sad for him if they recommend that he gets one but also relieved that his head will have a chance to sort itself out. Anyway better go, take care all and big squishy hugs to all the bubs xoxo

Sangie- Frazer is loving his food a lot more than I though he would at this stage! He is having 3 solid meals a day with some sort of snack like yogurt (now he likes it) peaches, narnie or cheese. He also screams when there's none left and Mummy walks away. We have managed to drop the dream feed and he is down to 5 bottles a day of between 200- 240mls. Hoping Ethan's clinic visit goes well. In the long run it's probably better that it gets sorted sooner rather than later.

Sanchez- Apparently it is pretty common in bubs about 6 mths old. Have heard of so many bubs that have had it, some I know were hospitalised for 5 days. I couldn't stand 2 I would be a mess by the 5th. Sometimes if babies get it, it indicates that they might be more prone to asthma when they are older. When the GP asked if there was a family history, I said no only to go home and have DH inform me that he had chronic asthma as a child and it resolved itself in later years :rolleyes: We've been together 10yrs, ya think he would have told me that before???? Nup.

We are doing much better here. Frazer still has a bit of a cough but is pretty happy and it hasn't affected his routine much at all. His 6th tooth is well and truly coming down and I am surprised at how good he has been with all of them. How is everyone finding the amber necklaces?? I'm not sure if it's officiallyy crawling but he is moving at least 3 steps on his knees before collapsing to his belly. Can't be left alone in a room anymore cause he is getting into everything. The other day I returned to the lounge room to find him half way across the room trying to pull the floor lamp cord out of the wall. Am now looking into some sort of play pen as our house is all open plan and you can't really put a safety gate anywhere unfortunately

Am getting really excited, for those who remember Janine1511 and her bub Emily originally from this thread, she is getting married Sunday week and DH, Frazer and I are flying up to Palm Cove, Cairns for it! Am loving that I found her on Belly Belly and that we have really hit it off and catch up at least once a week since she only lives 10 mins away!! Looking forward to buying something semi-formal for Frazer to wear. Will post some photos when we get back.

Sangie....I don't know if you'd call it weaning, but she has 3 BF's and then we have introduced a night time bottle of formula which is getting mixed reactions! And she is still on the boob about 3-4 times a night still :o! Her bottle of formula though she will only drink about 130mls at maximum. Not sure if this is her normal but she is out like a light afterwards, so i think she may be a small eater. Yes a tooth is semi visable! Exciting!

Pooley....good to hear F is on the improve and keeping you on your toes! I haven't even thought about baby proofing the house yet....

Well wonderful world of night waking in continuing ... hit a new high last night of 6 times. Sanchez I don't know how you have managed almost 7 months of it. I really wish I was able to do the co-sleeping thing as I am sure it would be so much easier but never did it at home so don't think either of the two of us would sleep for fear of squashing Sam. I am so exhausted as you don't really get to rest or certainly not sleep during the day. Both of us have caught colds due to the horrid weather and have fingers and toes crossed that Sam doesn't get it. He is a bit snuffly so keeping an eye on him.

How are the rest of you finding your day milk feeds going these days? I am finding he is less and less interested in feeding during the day - too much else going on I guess - and am wondering if this is causing him to want to feed so much at night? I hadn't intended to really start to replace BFs with formula until after we got back to Oz as I reckoned that would easier to give him BFs on the plane but not sure know as am considering anything to get some of my sleep back!. I know as his solids meals increase his milk intake would drop but he will only go on for a few minutes each side max during the day. AF has come back too but don't think that this is causing him not to feed as he is quite happy to do so as long as its pitch black outside :rolleyes:

Sangie hope all goes well with Ethans visit to ortho and they are able to sort issue out easily. Sam doesn't move in his cot and always seems to sleep facing the same way but doesn't have an issue that I can see of that the health nurses have mentioned. I wonder are some babies more prone to it than others - softer heads?

Sanchez you might be right about V having a smaller appetite that might explain the number of feeds she has always taken at night. I guess we have little or no way of knowing what they take when you are breast feeding. Hope her little tooth comes through easily.

Pooley have fun in Cairns at the wedding. Can't believe F has 6th teeth already. Isn't it amazing just how differently all the babies develop and grow. Hope he continues to recover. Sounds like he is a very cheery little chappie and stays happy no matter what.

Art looks like no one told our little ones about food being fun until 1. Sam certainly lets us know that he is not impressed if he is put into his high chair and the food isn't ready IMMEDIATELY. He loves his food 99% of the time and is increasing the amount he takes what seems like daily. I think I will start to introduce some meat into his diet next week. When we were down at his grannys last week I wasn't able to puree his food like I do at home and he coped really well with more lumpy food.

We are STILL waiting for the phone to be connected at our new place but it shouldn't be far off now, I'm so over using my iPhone. Optus are sorting it out for us now as iinet were useless. Phone companies are so annoying at times.

Pooley - glad to hear Frazer is ok. That must have been awful for you! Izzy's been snotty lately and that's been hard (listening to her snuffle and cough in her sleep) so I can only imagine how tough it was for you guys.

Art - I'd prefer the gummy smile any day too! As much as her teeth (she has 2 now!) are sweet, that second one gave us all a rough ride. I cant get over Amelia standing up with the walker in that photo you have on FB! Is she moving forward with it?

Sangie - good luck at the specialists next week. If Ethan needs a helmet, do you have any idea how long he'll have to wear it for?

Sanchez - hon, hats off to you. I dont know how you're doing it! Izzy was having 2 night feeds while her second tooth came through (yes, the second one arrived with a lot more force than the first) and that wrecked me! How is little V going otherwise?

AM - big hugs to you too. The different time zone must have him frazzled. You've probably already thought of this but have you checked he's warm enough too? Ive recently switched Izzy to her 2.5 tog Grobag and she wears a wondersuits and singlet underneath. Her room thermometer says it's 19 degrees and, besides the teeth pain, she's sleeping well and most importantly, her chest is warm. Although you're shattered, are you having a great time? I bet your families adore Sam and are spoiling him rotten :)

AFU - Izzy's second tooth arrived a week after the first and boy did we know about it! I had a feeling the first one was a fluke. Our poor little girl has been so out of sorts and crying a lot more than usual. We also went back to 2 night feeds, something we haven't done since she was 6 weeks old!! I haven't got her amber necklace yet so we've been trying Panadol, Nurofen and Brauers Calm. The Nurofen seemed to work best although neither of us like giving her so many drugs. Can't wait to try out the necklace.

We think Iz must have gone through a growth spurt too as she suddenly changed yesterday. She seems to have a few new words (noises) and facial expressions and she attempted to move forward on all fours too. She does a lot of rocking but she's now lifting her hands and trying to move. She ends up on her tummy flapping around like a skydiver which is hilarious. We are starting to baby proof our house as Iz is really getting around now. She was attempting to pull herself up on the glass coffee tables the other day. We'll have to put them out of reach for a while! She also frequently gets under her cot when I'm putting her washing away. It's very cute.

Solids are still going really well but she was only eating about half as much while her teeth came through. She ate everything yesterday so she must be feeling better. She also had a, wait for it, 2.5 hour morning sleep in her cot!! I was shocked and boy I hope it continues! Fingers crossed.

We are on hols from next Thursday and I can't wait. Will be great to have a break with DH and Izzy and show her off to family and friends. We are in Vic for a week (I'm from Victoria) then in QLD for a week. My cousin is getting married in Caloundra on 24 so that will be great. Izzy has the cutest dress and shoes to wear! Even I have a sexy new black dress. I'm so looking forward to getting all fluffed up and having a few cheeky wines.

Well I'd better get miss Iz some breaky. After a quick 5am feed she slept until 8. I LOVE that ;)

Sanchez, where abouts are you going to in NZ? I would usually dress a bub in winter in warm pants (trackies, polarfleece, lined jeans), a body suit and a longsleeve tee (or long sleeve bodysuit with a normal tee over top)when inside, then a jersey or jacket when going out. And a hat and warm socks.

NW3, I would assume that Sam's extra night feeding is comfort based rather than for food because of all the recent travelling. My DS was a chronic comfort feeder and woke a zillion times everynight for over a year.

Taurean, so far A can only hold on to things, can't walk with the walker. She can step if I hold her hands but doesn't seem that interested in going anywhere.

A had a two hour day nap a while ago and I didn't know what to do with myself lol. Then she was straight back to her 20-40minute kips.

Art you gave my DH and I a bit of a chuckle when i was reading to him how many clothes you would put a baby in and when i read that was for inside!!! Goodness, i need to start sorcing warm baby clothes, everything i can see here is like fake warm, not wools and things for real warmth. I am flying into Wellington for 4 days to see some reles, and then I am meeting DH in Christchurch and we have a camper for 2 weeks for the sth island, our only plans are we have All Black v Wales tickets for Dunedin. SOOOO excited! Where are you abouts again?

Taurean - V has got her front 2 teeth as well! Although she may have been a bit better than Izzy as there was no real change in her personality at all, I give her a couple of doses of panadol a day now just in case they are hurting. She constantly now chomps on her thumb. 2 times wrecked you? I shall cross you off babysitting V duty then!

AM - yeah I have wondered about whether she is actually hungry or just comfort feeding? I don't know - makes me feel better that Art said she went through it. Am are you home yet? or are you still OS?

AFU - well V has got her first 2 teeth, hard to see but they are there.....one is on a funny angle....she may be a braces kid! Both DH and I were anyway so it figures! Yeah people wonder how i am feeling being awake a lot at night......i had a bowl of Vs food in one hand yesterday and V on my hip in the other.....i wanted to heat up V's food, i lifted V up to try and put her in the microwave! I do things like this all the time now! So i am surviving but there is a fallout zone (my brain cells).
I have my start date back at work 5th July, only for 2 days a week, which i am a bit anxious about - so i am going to try and ween. She needs to get used to not having me around. We would like 3 babies and I won't go back to work after i have the second so it makes me feel better that i can breastfeed the others for longer. I have quite loved breastfeeding. My boobs certainly don't look like they did 12 months ago but all for a good cause!

Sanchez, I so know what you mean about the boobs. I used to have really good ones, now they are saggy and stretchmarked :cry: I am in central north island, but I lived for 3.5 years in Dunedin for uni, it is a lovely place!

Pooley, meant to say OMG at your DH not mentioning his chronic childhood asthma! You would have thought it was relevant to mention it at some point over 10 years, especially with the pregnancy/baby!

Art, Ethan is still a gummy bub! We can see a tooth bulging (bottom right eye tooth) but it has been there for ages and doesn't seem in any hurry to cut through the gum. No signs of any other teeth. I'm in no hurry for him to get teeth, kind of scared that he'll bite me lol!

Sanchez, I had a bit of a chuckle imagining you lifting up V to put in microwave. The things that sleep deprivation can do hey :lol: Good luck with weaning. Glad that you are only going back 2 days, I can't imagine working full time with sleep deprivation too! Is V going into childcare? I miss my pre children boobies too lol! Oh well I guess I"ll never see them again!

Kelly, hope you guys are all well! How is T going? Did he go ok at daycare?

AFU we have decided to put Ethan in a helmet to hopefully fix his flat head. He had the plaster cast done and we will pick it up next week. He'll have to wear it all the time and it only comes off for an hour each day so we can wash his head and the helmet. I really hope he adjusts ok. The orthotist thinks he will need it for around 4 months so fingers crossed we can have it sorted by the time he turns 1.

Better fly and try to get some things done today, catch you all soon :D

Oh Sangie that is disappointing about Ethan going into a helmet. Better to fix it now, I guess - I am sure everybody is telling you that. Everybody said that when Violet went into her brace - didn't stop me bawling my eyes out for 2 days though.
I was invited to a friends mothers group today and I met a little bub who is our age and she had her helmet on and she looked so cute. I had never seen one before and I didn't realize how funky they are.....hers has flowers all over it. I have a photo of her on my FB if you would like to see.

In our news Violet had her hips xrayed today, apparently one hip is growing at a different rate to the other, not concerned enough to do anything else but it means another xray at 12 months to check. He at least put my mind at ease that it isn't all the standing on her feet she does!
I had a minor break down tonight, my mum put the guilts on me about me trying to ween violet, and told me I was awful because she didn't take thebottle tonight and I didn't offer her the boob and she fell asleep with an empty tummy :( I felt like the worst mother in the world (still crying as I write!). She feeds on the boob about 4 times during the night anyway!
I hear a lot of BF babies when their mums go to work they just wait for them to come home and have a big feed then. I guess just fill them up on a truckload of solids during the day! Has anybody else heard of this?
I don't know what to do.

Ps Art, you made my day when you said you had a comfort feeder....I thoughti was the only one to experience the pain of sleepless nights!

Sanchez, comfort feeders are really common, for some reason no one wants to talk about it but it does make it a bit better to know you aren't alone with some kind of defective hell-baby :hug: .
Don't let your mum guilt you. V will sort herself out when you go back to work. She will take the bottle if she wants to, or she will eat solids. She won't starve herself. And if she goes to bed hungry, she will wake for a feed - no harm done.

Sangie, bummer about the helmet. I was imagining some kind of huge bulky thing, but after what Sanchez said they sound quite cool - like a funky hat. I am also in no hurry for teeth, especially since A sometimes does the old clamp and scrape. Unpleasant enough with just gums.

Taurean, any luck with the internet yet? Bet Izzy will look great in her little dress.

I am starting to admit that my sweet girl is no longer a little baby. The jumperoo was packed up yesterday because she was hardly using it. Instead we got out the inflatable ball pit which she loves! Unfortunately DS loves it to and jumps in squealing and kicking his feet around - which A thinks is fantastic! She adores him so much, if he leans towards her she grabs him for a huge hug.

We are finally back online!!! Woohoo! What a wait that was. I love my iPhone but it was starting to wear thin. I never thought it would feel so good to type on a normal keyboard. Isn't that sad! :shakehead:

Art - the ball pit sounds like fun. Might look at that for Izzy soon. She still loves her Jumperoo though, spends a lot of time in it and she enjoys showing off to anyone who stops to watch her. She is such a show pony

Sanchez - fingers crossed V's hips are all ok. As for the weaning, if you're ready to do it then I say do it. Don't listen to your mum and her guilt trip. V will drink if she's hungry or thirsty. Do what is best for you and your family and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And if V is a real booby girl then it will be easier to ween now rather than later as you have more control over the situation now and the tanties are less severe ;) Oh, and PMSL at being crossed off V's babysitters list. Classic!

Sangie - Ethan's little helmet does sound quite cool if it's like what Sanchez described. I hope it sorts his precious little head out soon. Thanks for the warning about the cool weather in Vic. A few friends have phoned me too so I've been out and stocked up on more winter gear for Iz. I went a bit nuts at the Myer sale today - yes, a LOT of Sprout stuff. I love Sprout! I also got her a gorgeous beanie and more wondersuits. I've got tights and spencers too. The weather actually looks quite nice for the next week but 24 over there is a lot cooler than our 24 in Perth so I think she'll appreciate all the new winter woolies. And they look so cute, I can't wait to dress her in all her winter gear!

Hi everyone else!

We fly out Friday so tomorrow I'm washing and packing. I'm dreading trying to work out what to take for Izzy and I'm tempted just to pack her entire wardrobe. I figure it won't weigh that much, LOL! No, I'm not serious but it is going to be hard to work out what to take given we're going to Vic and QLD! Sanchez, what's the weather like there? What is V wearing during the day and to bed?

Izzy is continuing with her ripper day sleeps so that is just bliss. I'm getting so much done and I'm such a happy mummy because of it. The holiday will probably throw our new routine all out of whack but oh well, it's been nice while it lasted!

Is anyone else still trying to track down their libido??? Mine still hasn't returned and it's really worrying me :hide:. AF hasn't returned either so I guess that has something to do with my lack of sex drive. I've spoken to DH about it in depth to let him know it's not him, it's just the switch has been turned off for now. It's driving me a bit nuts though, I just feel so bad for DH. One of my friends said her libido returned with AF so maybe that will happen to me. I never thought I'd be welcoming AF's return but it would be nice to feel somewhat normal in that department.

Looks like i'm not the only one not getting email updates that there has been a post. I wondered what was going on!
We have been busy busy with our holiday, just a driving holiday up north in NZ, which was lots of fun and Tadhg was a little angel - slept through hours of driving most days. It was great having DH with us all day everyday for a week, as he really got to experience every part of our day and helped out heaps, so I think we have turned a corner where we can more easily share the responsibilities and I can get out of the house a bit more. Then we have been doing daycare practice this week - kinda fun, but hard - he is fine for bottles and playing, but sleeping in a room full of cots with other babies making noises and light coming in etc - all a bit hard! I'm slowly working through thoughts like - he will learn soon enough, if he cries it wont hurt him, it will be great to have a baby that can sleep in all that noise etc (as all the others in daycare do!), i'm only 7 minutes drive away if they need me etc etc - convincing myself it will be fine! Monday is the first full day!! I'm back to work ladies... 3 days a week.

Pooley - exciting about Janine's wedding, hope you all have a lovely time - no doubt she will be extremely beautiful :) I hope you guys are feeling a bit better this week. Have you decided about the flu shot? Hope that doesn't stress you - if in doubt go with your gut instinct - which i'm sure you would do anyway :D Also, yay for dropping the dream feed - isn't it nice to put them down and know the evening is yours.

Taurean - nice to be back online, and feeling a bit more normal i guess :) How is the house going? Is it feeling like a home?

Sanchez - Sounds like V is still keeping you busy. Just thought i'd let you know that Tadhg has about 180-200ml of formula, and he has 5 feeds a day - so i'd say 130ml is not bad, if she's having 6-7 feeds in 24 hrs. You poor sweet thing - noone has the right to tell you you are doing anything wrong. I reckon V wouldn't sleep if she was really that hungry - plenty of babies go long periods without having a feed - she is obviously letting you know when she is hungry - big hugs x. I think AF is short for Aunt Flo, still no sign of mine - which is strange considering i started weaning Tadhg 2 months ago, and now he is getting about 1/2 a feed in the morning and needing a bottle top up - so this will be our last week of BFing i think - kinda sad, but kinda ready for it now.

OK T is awake and calling out - i better go as he has already trapped his leg in the cot railings once!

Sanchez, I've already shed a few tears. But after talking to the orthotist and other specialists I'm feeling much better about our decision. And yes the helmets are quite funky! I'll check out your fb page for the little girl with the helmet, thanks hun. Sorry that your mum is putting the guilts on you but you really need to do what you feel is best for the both of you. And Art is right, V won't starve herself but by the sounds of it she might be one of those bubs who attacks your bb's as soon as you return haha!

Art, I held a newborn last week and that really makes you realise how big ours are now! The ball pit sounds like fun! Ethan still loves his jolly jumper! We are thinking about putting a trampoline on layby at the mid year toy sales for Christmas for both our kiddies. I can see it being very well used, Ethan would jump all day in the jolly jumper if I let him and Elena loves to use the one at playgroup.

Taurean, enjoy your trip. I think the weather is going to be nice here next week but the mornings and evenings are really cold now. It was foggy here this morning, insane!! Go the sprout clothes, we love them here too! Um libido, nope :shakehead:

Kelly, best of luck with going back to work, I hope the transition goes well for both of you. Fingers crossed T gets the hang of sleeping at child care. I'm sure its very common and hopefully he gets used to the noise soon.

I'm feeling really tired and flat at the moment, I think its the change in weather that isn't helping. To make it worse DH is going away this weekend for work for 2 weeks so I'll be on my own with the kids. I'm really dreading it and praying that it goes super fast! Ethan had his first taste of meat last night and he seemed pretty impressed!

Sangie, two whole weeks! I feel like death after three days alone with the kids! Do you have family close by or friends that would help you out? Take aways are your friend.

Is there a developmental leap around 7 months? I can't believe how much A has changed in the last few days - she has got heaps of new sounds and babbles away, she has clicked that walking can actually take her places so she slides off my lap and grabs my fingers so she can go wandering (...usually to the dog or to DS's room), she just seems so much older!

I'm a p/t WAHM of 2, DD (09/09) is my second but is a totally different kettle of fish to my first. I'm frazzled and finding two plus work a bit of a handful. DD sleeps really poorly and generally isn't a happy little camper. I'm wondering if she's low in iron or something as she doesn't have a lot of energy and is frequently tired and grumpy. I'm finding myself confused and struggling a bit so thought it might be good to connect with other mums who have babies of similar age.

Sorry to hear your not having the greatest of times at the moment. I think 1 is a handful, so i can't imagine having 2 and working! Mine is useless sleeping overnight...and know how physically taxing that is.
Has your little girl ever had a checkup, to see whether there is something amiss with her bloods or anything?
Is she eating solids?
Is she still hitting her milestones even though she is tired? How old is your other child?

skeetaboat - welcome to our friendly little group! My DS was also born on 09/09! Sorry you are having a hard time with your DD. Is it a recent thing? Could be a growth spurt or teething? Might be worth getting her checked out just to rule out anything medically. I'm just about to start working from home too. I'm very nervous about it and how I'm going to fit it all in!!!

DH didn't end up going away due to the volcano eruption. It was lucky he didn't go or else he would probably be stranded somewhere!

Ethan got his helmet yesterday and he is wearing it for a few hours at a time before getting a break. He'll be in it full time from Thursday. Poor boy gets very sweaty head in it :( But he seems to be coping ok. The real test will be tomorrow when he will sleep in it.

Skeet, sounds like it would be worth getting her checked out by a (decent) doctor. My DD doesn't sleep much during the day, usually about 1-1.5 hours in several naps but she is never tired with it. I have a 2.5 year old as well and I so can't see anywhere in my day to fit in work!

Sangie, I hope E sleeps o.k in his helmet. At least it is not summer anymore, that would be far worse. I didn't even know there was a volcano erupting lol, I had to google it. I don't tend to watch commercial t.v, so I am never up with the news.

I think A is slowing trending to two day naps. She is going about 4 hours between waking in the morning and her first nap, then she will want another in the afternoon. They are starting to get a little bit longer too, it is not uncommon for a 1 hour nap now which has been good.
We went to the 'city' on Sunday and she resisted sleep for the whole 1.25 hour trip there, had two 20 minute sleeps in the sling all day then refused to sleep in the car the whole way home! Seriously, when I was pregnant the first time I thought it was a given that babies slept in cars - gee did I get ripped off!

She is eating solids, although not a great deal. I thought she may have been allergic so cut out all wheat and dairy which really only leaves fruit, veg and rice cereal, none of which she loves to gobble. I tried dairy again today and no reaction so far. Maybe I need to up the solids a bit.

She's slow on the milestones, which is the main reason I'm a bit concerned. She can sit up unsupported and she can also roll from side to side (not over) on the floor. I have seen her roll back to front and front to back, but as a rule, she doesn't do it (eg if I put her on the floor on her tummy she generally just cries). Perhaps she's just a bit behind the average but I want to get her checked out to make sure it's nothing serious. I have got an MCHN appt tomorrow so will see what she says.

My DS is 3.

Artechim - the WAH gig can be tough. I would love to stop working actually and just concentrate on my lil ones. I am trying to cut back to 15 hours a week as I feel enormously guilty whenever I'm working and not paying the kids the attention they deserve (that's usually when I pack up my work for the day and decide the park is a better option!).

Sangie - goodluck with your WAH venture. It can be tough, but you save a lot of time with getting ready, daycare drop offs/pick ups, driving to work, traffic, etc, so it also has many pros. How many hours will you be doing? You'll probably find you settle into a good routine after a few weeks. I have the TV on more than I would like (morning shows and an afternoon DVD, and sometimes I have to use it so I can go get DD asleep) but as soon as DD is a bit older I'll be turning it off more and telling the kids to go outside and play! Right now between DD's nightmare nap schedule (the other day I spent 3.5 hours all up getting DD to sleep - 7 naps!!!) and my work, I feel like DS isn't getting enough mum time (hence trying to cut down my work hours..).

Anyway! I've waffled on :redface: I look forward to meeting you lovely ladies. I'll have to read back so I don't ask silly questions & you don't ahve to repeat yourselves. Thanks again for the warm welcome, it means a lot.

KellyNZ- Frazer has just had his 2nd day of daycare and I too was stressed about how he would go. Luckily his sleeping tends to be pretty normal but he is wanting to eat far more than having bottles atm. We are down to 4 240ml bottles a day with 3 main meals and a couple of snacks in between so feel like I am sending a heap to D.C with him. I'm sure Tadgh will get better once he gets used to it. How many days a week is he going? I am also starting back work next Thursday full time and am kinda looking forward to using my brain again. It will be nice to know that Frazer is with family 4 days a week and only in day care 1 day. We have decided against getting F the flu shot but DH will get it as he is a teacher.

Janine's wedding was beautiful, was raining a couple of days up there but it stayed away on the day luckily. Frazer was pretty good. Just put him to sleep in the pram and partied it up at the reception. Emily looked precious in sequins and a head band. Here is a link to some pics.

Hi Skeetaboat- Welcome, I agree with the others in regards to getting your little on checked out. It is hard not to compare milestones of other babies this age, especially in here but the MCHN hopefully will be able to help.

Sangie- Good luck with E's helmet. Hoping it doesn't disrupt his sleep too much.

Artechim- I too was wondering the same thing about the developmental stage. Frazer has suddenly seemed to have gone from babyhood to infanthood, IYKWIM. In the last 2 weeks he has started fully crawling, pulling himself up on things (especially in his cot!) and is vocalising much more. I must read up on that. Still hasn't really got the hang of "dad dad" he likes "dodd, dodd" much better to the dislike of DH. He he

My god, I don't know how others with toddlers/kids can handle them and a crawling 7 1/2mnth old!! You must be super women. Frazer is into everything and anything. He won't stay in one place anymore and is pulling himself up on everything and pulling things off things!! Not even safe to put him in his rocker anymore! He can turn completely around in it and just stands there. Needless to say I am getting hardly any house work or school work done that's for sure!

Hope everyone else is travelling well. What is everyone else doing re: work? Going back, staying at home, part-time/full time? Would love to know how 2nd/3rd time Mums managed the transition.

Ok - I need to know the exacts of what everyone is feeding their bubs. I have no idea what I am doing or what I am supposed to be feeding her. I had been giving her 3x mixed veges/protein and fruits a day. The someone told me that is too much to be feeding her so now she gets some weetbix (i know too young but i dont care) and fruit in the morning, a yogurt and fruit at lunch and protein/veges/fruit at night.
I have no clue though. But no matter how much i give her it doesn't make her feed any less overnight.
And then I don't know when to transition onto lumpy foods.

I NEED A PARENTING BOOK GODDAMMIT.

Quick post from our gorgeous apartment in Caloundra. Holiday is going great and Izzy is an awesome traveller. We are so impressed. My cousin's wedding is today and it's shaping up to be a big one. We leave on a bus at 11.45am and don't return until midnight. I'm going to be shattered tomorrow!

Kelly - the transition back to work sounds like it went pretty well. I would imagine it was tough on you handing him over to someone else. Did you manage to get much work done?
Art - Izzy is doing all sorts of new stuff all of a sudden too. There was a Wonder Week at 26 weeks and I think the next one is around 37 weeks. Will check my book when I get home.

Sanchez - food is confusing, hey! Izzy has four breastfeeds a day and 3 solid meals. Breaky is normally rice cereal with 4 ice cubes of fruit (I've got all her food frozen in ice cube trays). Sometimes she'll have yoghurt and fruit and she's had Kids Weatbix several times too. Lunch is either protein and veg or all veg (4 ice cubes) and often a small tub of yoghurt. Dinner is the same. I'm giving her Rafferty's Garden sachets while we are on holidays and she has one sachets at each meal. Breaky is fruit mixed with rice cereal, lunch is usually a fruit and veg one (a lot of them are mixed with apple) and dinner is veg and meat. She has a jar of Heinz baby custard at lunch and dinner too but doesn't alway eat it all. Your MCHN should talk about solids again at the 8 month checkup. I have a baby and toddler recipe book which has some good info in it too. They should be moving to lumpy food and finger food now, although Izzy choked on her first piece of bread the other day, doh!

Skeet, my DD is the same as yours - she can roll but doesn't really ever do it. She has just started rolling onto her side on the floor. She sits, but doesn't get up to crawl. However, DS was the same with rolling etc, and he walked at 8.5 months. I don't think A will though, she just seems content to sit where she is - no drive to explore.

Pooley, I am staying at home with the kids. We decided before we had DS that I would be an at home mum because we didn't want to have children in care (please no one take any offence, it is just our choice for our family). However, it is boring as hell. I like that I am the one looking after my children and that everything is being done my way (not that I am a control freak....) but OMG my brain cells are slowly dying. I think I might do some distance study soonish because I feel very out of touch and stupid these days.

Sanchez, :hug: I don't know if I should say, but comfort feeding isn't usually about the milk at all. Watch her when she is comfort feeding - you will find that although there is a lot of sucking, there isn't much swallowing. So solids often don't have much effect on a comfort feeder.
Why is she too young for weet-bix? I haven't heard that but then I don't listen to many of the food rules. I am still giving A just tea. She has bits of fruit/veges/whatever we are having. The only time she doesn't have what we have is if it is spicy or too fine to pick up. During the day I will give her crackers or bits of fruit if she looks like she wants it.
Basically, as long as it isn't blocking her up/giving tummy pains then feed her as much as you/she wants. She will stop if she is full. With the lumpy foods, just step up to the next age jar or don't blend as much whenever you are ready, she will either cope with it or refuse - which is no biggie, just move back to the smoother stuff and try again another time.

For some reason A has decided not to feed to sleep any more, she will finish her drink and then sit up and want to be jiggled to sleep. My poor arms and back ache from jiggling a 9kg person for 15 minutes multiple times every day!
