Milly my love :hug::hug::hug: you poor thing... I totally understand what you were feeling!! It would have been wonderful to have had an adult conversation and of course you were trying to do the best for everyone and it just went upside down and round and round lol don't feel too bad I posted a little while ago that I dropped a book on bubbas head.. All I wanted to do was read her a story and I end up really hurting her... I felt soooooo bad!!!
cass: So glad you guys had a great day!! Sounds lovely!! WooHoo Marta on the peach!! hehehe
AFM: New job starting Monday YAY so very excited!! Oz day we went up to Mooloolaba and spent the day at the beach with some great friends!! Bubs first visit to the beach and she LOVED it was so happy... We bought her a new hat and new rashi to wear over her togs, she looked so cute!! I was a very over protective mother tho, I think I applied suncreen about 10times lol!! She was soooo slimy but I didn't want to chance her getting burnt!! Not much else happening really, oh actually yes there is Bubs had some solids the other day, is slowly getting it, but still has the toungue thrust thing going on, but as they say "food is fun until they are one' !!!
Enjoy your weekend ladies!!!
I just had to tell someone and thought I'll post on here coz nonone actually knows us and it would be that embarressing!!
DF and I were a bit naughty this morning, we were enjoying some couple time while bubs was asleep and well things kinda heated up and before too long we were DTD, no biggie right? That was until we realized while cuddling that we didn't use protection and I'm not on the pill!! LMAO - I know breastfeeding reduces the chances on falling pregnant and I haven't had AF since before I was pregnant with Audrey....
We both laughed thinking what if, but then we kinda got worried what if??? Chances are so slim and with my history even slimer but oh god What If!!!!!!
Time will only tell - hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!!
oh HPL...we are in the same 'boat' lol. we have been a bit norti and have risked it a few times. ahhhhhh! need to get better organised. we have protection (condoms et al) but they are all in the bedroom and for some reason we tend to not be in there when the moment takes us ).
Milly: massive squishy hugs gorgeous  we have had those moments...of having to say 'we can't' because of bubs. man it stings. i remember only recently missing a seminar on waterbirth because we couldnt get a sitter in time for DD1...i was so devastated. BUT tbh, those moments are really really rare and no reflection of how things will be from now on ITMS. some days are just crazy and it's such a massive learning curve for everyone. and who knows, she might of not been able to deal with waiting that night, but then another night no problemo...sometimes there is no picking it
oh and HPL: good luck for tomorrow babe!
AFM: well, we braved a baby store today lol. had to buy Marta a highchair and Leila was getting peeved that we were using her chair lol. so we got her the same as Leila (stokke tripp trapp). love love love it! we got her a lime green one with a blue baby set and cool stripy covers  she looks so funky in it!
also ordered some new front wheels for the bugaboo. after almost 4 years of daily use they are really worn down. but man they hit you hard: $70 a wheel :o. ah well, i am a bug fan so will do it lol.
Marta's latest food obsession is banana. i have been peeling half a banana and handing it to her...man she makes light work of it
hi girls. Just wanted to quickly drop in and let you know I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth or anything. I'm just depressed with what's going on in my life right now. Still dnt' know what's happening on the job front or if we will move and finances are stressful. DS is great which is a huge bonus as his health is the most important thing but dh and I aren't connecting that well :( I feel lost and not sure where my life is going. You all know we wanted to ttc ASAP... well now it is really looking like DS will be an only child and that alone is really upsetting me :crying:
Cass what re the new laws on home birth now? I didn't follow it too much as we had a hospital birth but I am considering it for the next one IF there is a next one. And do you need to buy an actual birthing pool or would a corner spa bath be ok? What about hygiene with the jets etc? I imagine they would need to be cleaned properly? Also how much did your midwife cost? Also about the banana Marta is eating. I hope I'm not overstepping the boundries here but when we had our 6 week community health nurse mothers group thingo we had a paramedic come in to teach us some basic 1st aid and also chat with us about the most common things they get called out for when it comes to babies and toddlers. He said the most common food for babies to choke on is banana and it's really hard to get out of their throat. The size of the banana (as in how round it is) is the perfect size to wedge in their throat and the texture of the banana is thick, slimy and gluggy therefore hard to get out if it's stuck kwim. Anyway he said to make sure banana is fully mashed up and not clumping together at all at least until they are older and have teeth and are munching/chewing food pretty well before swallowing.
HPL your dare devil you! You're right it's unlikely you re pg there is 5% chance so I think you are safe ;) Having said that my mum got pregnant when my brother was 6 weeks old with twins after DTD once so it can happen :p
milly  that sucks about your dinner out! I've been caught thinking I can leave it even 5 mins but I've found out that when he wants a feed I only have about 5 mins sometimes and then he's over hungry. Same with being tired if I leave it too long he'll be really tired and then it's a mission to get him to sleep. Have you been on your sewing machine at least and chilling out making some good stuff?
Well we hadn't bought a high chair yet and luckily we didn't cause dh kept saying that someone will give us one. I didn't know who but yesterday we were offered one so YAY now I don't have to spend any money. And they are giving us a portacot too which is something else we were just saying that we would like as we are thinking of going camping when ds is 5.5 months just before we start him on solids. So that will be at the start of March. Yesterday we went to a flood relief concert and got sun burnt :o I've been racking my brain trying to think of how it happened as i put suncream on DS but his nose and cheeks got a little pink. I feel HORRIBLE and like such a bad mummy :( it's not too bad nothing like my arms and chest as I didn't have anything on. But we were under a tree the entire time and when not under the tree DS had the shade thingo on the pram. So finally this morning I think I know what went wrong. When DS feeds he sweats like crazy and i have a cloth over my arm which his head rests on. Well I think it must have rubbed off onto the cloth and my boob and therefore left his exposed. My lesson in all this is reapply sunscreen, always put up shade tent even if we are under a tree and put the hat on DS including baby bnads even though they are both still way too big for him. Better to be readjusting them all time instead of getting sun burnt.
Milly that website is wholesome baby foods :)
Hi Guys, just thought I'd pop in and say :hello:
I haven't been on BB much this year. It's been pretty busy with going back to work and all.
I work for a global insurer :hide:. And they are centralising a lot of services interstate so my job along with 70 or so others is being made redundant.
We were told a couple of months back, but the bastardos will not tell us an end date so we've been left hanging. We're guestimating around late March at this stage. So everything is kind of up in the air at the moment, and just a little wee bit stressful
Little man is going sooo well. He's quite placid (polar opposite to DD hehe) and he has such a gorgeous little personality.
He's getting into the swing of daycare but a friend of ours has just moved back to SEQ and she is a family daycare mum and we're considering sending the kids to her instead of a childcare centre. Hmmm:doh: :doh:what to do what to do . . .
Sorry for selfish post guys. Hope all is well for everyone
hi girls!!
sorry have been MIA we have been super duper busy and then the last couple of days have been stressful with the cyclone and all that jazz (my mum is up in townsville). but i am back in action lol!
Cherished:  it sounds like such a difficult and tumultous time. i am with you on feeling really wrecked emotionally when you dont know where you are going to be or what you are going to be doing. it really does build up alot of pressure xx try to be really gentle on yourselves and dont feel that you all need to make any hard and fast decisions right now about your family...things are just too stressful to make good and informed decisions IYKWIM. you and DH will reconnect again. stress is a mega mojo killer and is insidious as it makes everyone extra tired and cranky, but remember it is not a sign of how things are ITMS, you guys will get through this, one thing that i have noticed over the last year and a bit is the connection that you and DH have. it will be strong enough
thanks for the info on the banana! i read up on it after you mentioned it (on BLS blogs etc) and it would seem that there are conflicting approaches (who da thought ). i guess what i will do is just monitor closely for now. i have mashed it up for her as well as she seems to like it...it's just that she really prefers to hold a slice lol.
MamaS: oh man! to be left hanging like that!! do you have any plans for after the redundancy...any plan B? the family daycare does sound lovely...if you think it could work, i would opt for that! smaller numbers and all that jazz. of course, being a friend though it will take some consideration as you dont want to find yourself in a situation where you might not be able to feel like you can say no/complain etc etc. BUT family daycare just sounds soooo lovely...
HPL: are ya UTD lol??!!
AFM: well as i mentioned we have been so busy. had a lovely daytrip to ocean grove to swim at the beach. marta loved the swim! she "oohhhhed" and "aahhhhhed" everytime the waves washed over her legs and feet and she kicked like crazy lol. although the sand eating was *interesting* lol.
i am riding on a high lately too as Marta has had 2 nights in a row of sleeping through :o. in shock lol. no doubt it is a passing phase, but i have been enjoying it lol.
she also enjoyed our sushi night out the other night. she only had a bit of rice and a cucumber stick to munch on but she loves it! i think what she likes is hanging out with us at the table and "sharing" lol!
thought i would share a pic of here in her highchair loving up the food: Marta pics!
(ok, being a mama i couldnt choose one...so ya'll have got dumped with them all  )
Hi everyone
Cass I can imagine there's loads of different opinions... yep who'd of thought  lol We intend to do baby lead solids and are really looking forward to it, DS has been interested in watching us eat for a while now but in the last week I think he's been grabbing a bit so can't wait to be able to give it to him especially half a kiwi fruit as he loves eating dh's hairy arm LOL so we think he'll really like it :) I think it's just the banana that the paramedic was concerned about due to the consistency on it as it's slimy once it has slobber on it and can slip down their throat easily and the width of it is the perfect size to wedge and get stuck. Anyway normally I wouldn't mention such a thing but seeing it came up thought I'd better.
The beach sounds great! and the sand eating would have been tasty for Marta too lol. Iv'e noticed that at our MG DS is the only one left with that white baby skin. All the other bubs have started to get yellowish skin due to seeing the sun. We've kept DS pretty covered up apart from his face which got burnt the other day which is now starting to look more matured too. It was a bit sad when I realised that he was loosing that real baby look :( my little boy isn't so little anymore!
Thanks for your kind words about dh and I. I think I'm in extra shock at what is happening due to how wonderful things have always been! There is still a REALLY big elephant in the room which we are ignoring. I'm just not sure how things will be in a few years time if they stay like this as it'll only get worse if we don't make an effort. He doesn't want to leave so that's a good thing but I think he's only staying because of DS :crying:
MamaS I didn't know you were in SEQ, where abouts? I think family daycare sounds great! That sucks about your job!
Hi Girls,
I sooo can't believe how grown up Marta is looking Cass. She has always appeared to me as being very advanced for her age (well from what I can see in FB pic's anyway:) ) She looks to have great head control and is sitting really well in her high chair. Looks like she's doing great with solids too. Brock doesn't seem to be really interrested in solids yet. As for after the redundancy, well I'll be looking for another job worse luck. I would much rather be able to focus on going to full-time uni instead of working, but unfortunately we need a second income.
Cherished, I'm not sure exactly whats going on with your DH and you ATM but all I can say is that earlier posts from you reflect such a beautiful and deep relationship between you and he (TBH I used to feel a little jealous ;) It just seemed like your DH was so generous and caring.) I guess what my point is, is that if anyone can get through a rough patch, I think you guys can . My Dh and I are going through a bit of a rough patch too atm.
Oh, BTW I'm on the Gold Coast :)
Thanks MamaS. You're right and we do still have a deep relationship and he is still a wonderful husband and especially a super dooper unbelievably fantastic dad. We are just not connecting like we used to. Nothing on the surface would suggest that but it's more our inner connection iykwim. I guess when bub came along we didn't have time to connect like we used to. During the pg as you all know we spent so much time just laying together connecting and loads of physical touch and talking. I can't imagine we are the only ones who have ever experienced something like this, I imagine it's pretty common. Maybe we are feeling it so much more because we were so very close before DS was born. We still feel a huge family bond and are hanging out together all the time but that is a different kind of connection.
I forgot to mention last night that I saw my boss yesterday and was supposed to call him to organise a time next week to chat about returning to work. DH said I could extend my maternity leave so that I'd get a full 12 months off. So I'd be going back in August. We are going to be on the bones of our AR$$ and going 'backwards at a rapid rate' but at least we'll be happy(ish). This will also mean that another baby is off the cards. Not only because of our relationship connection at the moment but also financially it may be a while before we are in front again and then we'd need to save money again so that I could take time off again for the next baby so I'm thinking it will be 2-3 years away :( I think I'm going to have to just come to terms with how things are and be GRATEFUL for everything that I do have. And that is a supportive husband (not matter what's going on) and an absolutely beautiful baby boy.
Hi girls!
MamaS: what would you be studying? i hear you on the second income...we are really starting to feel the pinch now. i have been out of paid work for 2.5 years now and it's starting to get a bit boring lol. i just want to be able to spend a bit freely ITMS...
Cherished: i *think* i get where you are coming from. when DH and I had Leila i got PND, anyway, we were talking about the impact on our relationship from baby and the pnd and our psychologist noted that we probably felt our disconnect between eachother so acutely simply because we have always been so incredibly close. everything we did, we did it together. and now that baby had arrived that was just becoming a bit hard (well, def in the beginning). so instead of me following him around the world while he went to conferences i was left on the couch at home with a house to run and a baby to look after...as an example. i really thought that our marriage was over (as did he!). but we had so much love for eachother that the thought of not being together made us both feel sick, so we figured that there was a goal to reach and conquer in keeping it working ITMS. there were times where it wasnt easy or all that clear on how to do it, but i you guys will get there, i am confident. not that this makes the road that you have to travel easier, but just want to shout out that we're here for you in anyway we can
Big hello to HPL and Milly and Renson and Muminalice!!! :hello:
AFM: we are doing AOK ATM. Marta had her first 'sorta' day at creche on wednesday and thursday. i was with her the whole time lol. although on thursday DH made me leave her for 40 mins and took me to coffee. it felt really yuk! arghhh! i dont want her to go to creche yet!!! but i dont have much choice :( have to get the PhD handed in...boo hoo! why oh why couldnt i have finished it off before i had her??! why did i have to get sooo phat and tired cranky pg chick lol!
Hi Cass, Bachelor of Midwifery actually ;) Yeah I've wanted to be a midwife since I was my SIL's birth support person 15 years ago (yup showing my age now, hehe) I've had an offer for BMid through ACU for the last 3 years in a row. I keep applying and praying for a miracle that I wont have to work, but then end up rejecting my offer at the last minute. I actually thought that perhaps this year I could start a bachelor of nursing externally to at least get the ball rolling then getting credits for certain subjects in BMid but with everything so up in the air work wise I don't know if i could do it. Plus I want to get a good GPA so want to be able to be dedicated to being able to spending a lot of time on study. Then when I finally do get an undergraduate done and dusted I'm actually slightly tempted to sit the UMAT and try to get into Med. Don't ask me where I'll get the time but I definately do have an interest in med too.
Whats your Phd in? What do you plan to do afterwards?
oh wow! that would be so amazing! i have to admit that i am so jealous of my friend that is a midwife..what a job!
my PhD is in International Perception Management (fancy way of saying propaganda ). i look at the use of it during times of crisis and how this fits within a model of liberal democracy...man, i need to submit it lol.
my plan is to get into international relations of some kind. have been working it towards a diplomacy kind of career. we'll see how that pans out...applying for work this month :o
MamaS YAY a midwife that will be fantastic! I love babies! and little kids they have a way of making your heart smile :loveshower: Over the last couple of years I've thought about doing something with little kids but I can't imagine that I really will.
Cass I always think that what you are studying sounds so interesting. I'm a big believer in the liberal propaganda saga so would love to see what your research has shown/proven. And thanks for your encouraging words
AFM DS is good, sleeping more, last couple of nights we've had a 4 and a 4.5 hr stretch and some 3 and 3.5hr stretches so things are looking up. Oh and my hair is also getting better! I tried moogoo and it's like magic ;)
oh we like sleep yes we do!! :bluecheer:
i think i need moogoo. i went to the hairdresser the other day (i know right?! first time in like 3 years...) and she gave me a frikken' 'mum' haircut. so i need some magic
not much to report today. had a nice day though; we were meant to have a picnic with friends that live on the yarra river here in melbourne, but we turn up and their whole property at the back is a big massive river :o so we had a picnic inside then got the gumboots on and tramped around watching the river zoom past. man, flood water can move quick!
Hi ladies,
sorry to have been quiet, I have been away I had a couple of appointments in the city so made a journey of it and had a few - very hectic - days away. And then it was SO HOT that I didn't even bother with the computer (internet plays up in the heat). Yay for the cool change!
thanks also for your reassurance after my awful day :grouphug:
HPL - how is the new job going?
Can I ask a question about expressing? How much milk do you need to express for a (8hour) day. I have NO IDEA how much DD drinks - two boobs LOL whatever that is?
hi mamaspice! nice to hear from you! I hope you work give you a HUGE redundancy payout to make up for being "bastardos"!
Cherished - I had heard that about the banana too, but had forgotten all about it, so thanks for the reminder
I hope you are feeling better hon. Here's my thoughts - We too aren't as "close" as when pg, but I think it's because sometimes, the antipation is so much more exciting than the reality. We imagine how perfect it will be, and then get a bit disappointed by the reality. Not that I mean that I or you or any of us are disappointed by our reality, but, well, like Christmas (where everyone spends so much time organising the smallest details to make it perfect and then Aunty Sue and Aunty Mary have a big tiff in the kitchen) or weddings (where despite the best laid plans, something or someone of monumental importance will be forgotten) IYKWIM. My imaginary pregnancy was delightful (unlike the real one) and while pregnant, DH & I imagined how it would be with our baby - I would be at home with her, she would sleep and settle easily, and I would be able to do so much while she slept (like shower and eat breakfast LOL, seriously though, cook dinner and do not alot but just a little housework), I would go for a walk everyday and while breastfeeding would lose weight. The reality is I spend the entire day with her. Yes she sleeps all night, but the days are reserved for her entertainment alone! She feeds for ages. She has about 3, sometimes 4 x 30 min sleeps in the day. And needs to be nursed or rocked to have those sleeps. It takes longer to settle her to sleep than what she sleeps for. Oh and the walk - it has either rained or been close to 40 degrees every day so I think I have walked about 4 times. So my reality is very different to how I planned, but I love her nonetheless.
So now we have DH imaginary baby - he would come home to work, and on our walk DD & I would have fed & watered the animals, so DH wouldn't have to look after all of them after a full day of work. Dinner would be either cooked or close to cooked, and we would all have nice quiet family time when he came home. Reality - DH comes home right in the middle of arsenic hour. He wants a few mins to unwind (which he doesn't get), before starting on the farm jobs. Dinner generally hasn't even been thought of and sometimes he has to cook it. Oh and I almost forgot - in his "ideal" we had lots of sex. Reality - twice. I have just been two exhausted or can't be bothered. So do I feel as connected to DH as before? definately not! But I think it's to be expected. So I guess what I am trying to say is I think it is natural to not feel as connected, especially when we anticipated so much. Does any of that make sense or am I on the completely wrong tangent?
And no I haven't had the chance to sew again!
OK ladies, question time:
Sleep - how long are your little ones sleeping for in total?
Poos - DD has gone from pooing everyday to pooing every few days. She seems to get very bloated and than does a runny poo and then the next day does the more solid one. My diet hasn't changed, so I am not sure why. Is this normal?
Nipple thrush - anyone had this? (Cass did you have this after your mastitis?) I am not sure if I have it or not. my nipples are itchy and get a bit stingy towards the end of a feed and for a little while after. Does this sound like it and are there any home remedies to fix it?
thanks!
Hi Milly!
The poo thing sounds fairly normal to me. DD1 after a few months would poo every 3 -4 days, DD2 is starting to go very 2 -3 days at the moment. I agree with what you said about the relationship side. You have an ideal of what life will be like and sometimes it doesn't happen. Also I think the dynamics change as well. Before it was just the two of you and you could focus your attention on each other, but now a third person has arrived, and it changes things. A lot. At least part (a significant part) of that attention gets taken away and it takes a bit to get used to.
hey milly: it kinda does sound like nipple thrush...if you google for the royal womens hospital in melbourne they have a great little leaflet on it. i did put daktarin oral gel on my boobs when i had painful bad. but then when it just got to itchy or stabby i just tried to air them as much as possible and changed tops/bras as often as possible. it's a PITA to get rid of, but you know what really did it? a swim in the ocean! weird but true!
Morning
Milly  thanks hon, you are totally on the right track with DH. Re the nipple thrush, mine were getting really itchy but figured out it was from not getting enough air and when it was a sticky and hot day they must have been sweating and maybe leaking a bit too and combined it made them itchy. My remedy was swiping a bit of vinegar& water solution over my nipples a few times a day and going topless as much as possible, in fact I'd say without any exaggeration that I've been topless about 80% of the time since DS was born!
Sleep, DS sleeps for about 45 ins in the morning, 1.5-2hrs over lunch and another 30 or so mins in the afternoon than 10-11 hrs at night waking for feeds though at night. We have improved to getting a 4 hr sleep in most nights and the others are 2.5 - 3.5hr stretches.
Poo, a little while back DS went from everyday to every few days and it's a big one! some days he will do 2 or 3 regular size ones but usually a big one every 3-4 days. He doesn't seem to be bothered at all by it though
muminalice LOVE your avvy :D
oh i forgot about the poo. Marta only really goes every 3-4 days. for awhile there she was only going like once or twice a fortnight, but i felt that she was uncomfy, so i asked the osteo to "loosen" her up a bit lol!
totally normal for BF babies to go up to 2 weeks without a poo...weird, but true :)
Muminalice: woot woo! look at you!!
Wow, that sounds interresting. So we can call you the Dr of propaganda then
Cherished, it's good to hear that bub is sleeping more for you. I am very very lucky that DS sleeps through the night :hide:, but just as well really with being back at work and all.
Hi Milly! what you write about life with a baby is sooo true! The poos sound normal to me too. As for the nipple thrush, when I had it I had itchy red nipples and would get stabbing pains in my boobs occasionally. I used an anti fungal cream and it seemed to work well.
Hiya Muminalice, I'm loving your avvy too! I must get one again. I'd accidently let my subscription lapse then when I havent had a new avy put up since I renewed it.
Can anyone suggest someone I can ask to do my new avvy? A while back I messaged the person who did my old one, to see if it oculd be re-instated but no response unfortunately :(
i *think* there is a thread in platinum where you can ask ppl to do one up for you...

............Sneaks Out****
Cricky it's been ages since I've posted in here :o I've been busy dealing with my marriage and this are finally looking up :D
Today DS is 5 months old :happydance: and it marks the day that we are starting solids! On Wednesday I ducked out to the markets and got organic pumpkin, sweet pot, avo, banana, peach, apple, pear, zuchini, beetroot, green beans, carrot and then got some organic oats and brown rice from the health food store. So today I've been cooking everything up in the steamer and mashing it up for the freezor. So much fun (the 1st time) but I can imagine that it'd get a bit annoying down the track so I don't think I will do that. I've made up heaps which should last a few months and by that time he'll just be eating what we will be eating so I'll mash things up as I go on the day. For now though it's nice to have everything in the freezer ready to go. I also got out the hand pump and expressed 1/2 a bottle of breast milk so that I could make ice cubes of it to put in with the rice and oats and it took FOREVER about 45 mins and I thought stuff it, that is enough. It only made about 24 cubes which is a months worth I guess if I add it to either the rice or oats to make it taste better and it totally needs it. Plain rice or oats are totally yuck. After the breast milk runs out I'll add the fruits to it. Anyway today after DS's next feed I'm going to give him sweet pot as his 1st food YAY.
Mama S I could have a go at an avvy for you but I'm guessing you've found that thread by now and got one on the go. I've only made 4 all up so am no expert though!
On the sleep front we had maybe the best night the other night 2 x 4hr stretches and then a 3.5 hr stretch. It' didn't last though , the following night he woke every 2- 2.5 hrs again :o and last night wasn't much better :wall:
hi ladies,
i wanted to write more but dd is now awake. will come back later
cass - you need to empty your mailbox, i just tried to pm you!
Hi well I'm new around this forum. My name is Nicole. I've tried reading but there is soooo much!
My youngest DD is almost 24weeks, actually she'll be 24weeks tomorrow!. Her name is Brydee. She was born on the 4th of Sept after an induced 2hr labour at 41weeks & 3days...Apparently she was too content in there....Any how she's a much easier baby than my first. Far LESS crying; though she does get bouts of acid reflux so not at those times! She's been a much happier baby from birth - my first was born with the help of a ventouse delivery & thinking back I kinda think that didn't set us off on the right foot, but thats a whole other story...So I BF'd until 3months & then I'd decided that was enough. I'd had trouble from the get go - over supply & that just led to a screaming tummy achey baby. I became depressed because all I ever did was feed & soothe a crying baby. So once we made the switch things looked brighter. Everything was soo much easier....While I often regret stopping - I may never get the chance to do it again - I know that we're in a much better place & that 3months is better than not doing it at all. (I am not a big BF is best advocate. I believe that each mum should do as they wish.) I'm thankful for getting the opportunity to do it....
So any ways. at the moment we're sort of settled into a routine. She takes 4 240ml bottles a day about 4-4.5 hrs between. A few weeks ago I introduced some solids & that seems to be going well. Actually we had a really rough trot about 6days ago where she was just unsettled & fussy & really colicky so I stopped the solids incase it was something I'd given her. Since re-introducing she's been good. Day time sleeps are hit & miss. Some days she sleeps for 1.5-2hrs & other days I might be lucky for her to sleep 30mins! It gets tiring, especially with a toddler demanding your attention at the most inconvenient times....Night times are GREAT. She has her last bottle at 6pm & is in bed sound asleep by 8pm & sleeps til 6-6.30am...I'm very lucky!
Any who, I think thats enough rambling from me....I look forward to getting to know you all better....I don't have many friends in my area. Too much nastiness for me....So it'll be nice to have somewhere to go, iykwm?!
:welcome: mummyofgirls not only to our baby buddies group but to BB too! I'm sure you'll love it here, everyone is very supportive and there's so much information it's bound to keep you occupied for hours.
HI ladies, back again,
Hello mummyofgirls! I too have a DD who avoids DD sleeps, so I know what that's like, only my DD is also hard to get down in the evening too. Like Cherished said, you will find some fab ladies & support here.
thanks cherished, cass, muminalice and mamaspice for the feedback re poos and nipple thrush.
update there - well she still seems gassy and bloated, and still only pooing ev couple of days. I did get the chiro to do an ajustment when I went, but so far no difference.
This last week, she has also been a bit vomity, when she hasn't really been a vomity baby before. teething issues perhaps? who knows! As I keep saying to her "mummy has L plates".
and the nipple thrush, well I'm thinking perhaps it's not, and is only a bit irritated. but again, who knows!
Mamaspice - your little man sleeps right through the night. does he also sleep during the day? how many hours (in total) would he sleep?
our DD wakes in the morning at 6.30am. today she had one sleep of one hour 10 mins (it took one and a half hours to settle her), and then went down at 8.30, only after 3 hours of settling, and she then woke 2 hours later, and then needed another hour and a half to settle back again! In 24 hours, she probably gets 12.5 hours sleep max, which just doesn't seem enough to me. And the only way to get her to sleep is to feed her, let her comfort suck, or rock her. she is constantly in-arms, and I am finding it rather exhausting. It seems I spend my entire day sitting on my backside nursing her, or walking around the house rocking her!
Cherished - how did your little man like his solids? I am - yet again - impressed at how organised you are!
I am hanging off the solids just a little bit longer. It seems I will be going back to work after easter, so I want to keep exclusively BF for a bit longer.
HPL - how is the work going?
I need to start to organise daycare, but am procrastinating.
I guess I should also start serious expressing and storing too. I have a bit frozen, but have no idea how much EBM she will need in a day. She either has 1 or 2 boobs, or sometimes 3 or 4 (ie, a repeat performance on each side) if she has been up for a while (yeah often she has three feed periods before a sleep!)
And I should really be trying to get a routine happening, where there is some regular sleep involved, not just collapse when exhausted sleep. Gosh, she is going to have a hard time in daycare. I am sooooo nervous about going back to work!!!!
well, I think that's all for now.
:grouphug:
Hi girls!
yessiree it has been awhile! i have also been mega busy as we have DHs father visiting from italy, so we have been packing in as much as we can with "nonno". it's been great!
Firstly! Big :hello: to Mummyofgirls!! welcome to our little thread :) i have added you to our baby list at the front of the thread...can we add Brydee's birthweight?
Milly: ooops! man, i must have heaps in that messages thingy. it has been years of BB lol! i have just done a mega cleanout so hopefully that is all good now :crossfingers:
we have just started creche here...we are feed to sleepers here too lol! have to admit that it hasnt been terribly pretty. but thankfully i dont really start until late march so i am slowly introducing her. on the first whole day that i tried she last 40 minutes before they called me. oh boy.
is her creche near your work? mine is close enough that on lunch break i go down and BF her. that way i dont need to express as much (and i can attempt to put her to sleep myself). well that's the plan  the reality is that she just cracks it and we go home lol.
all i can recommend is not to do as i did and express a whole bottle in one sitting lol. talk about flirting with mastitis! i had all the hallmarks of it and spent 36 hours in pain pain pain!
Marta's sleep is fairly hit and miss, some nights are 2-3 hourly, then there are weeks where she sleeps through then most nights where she is up once or twice a night. and she really only catnaps during the day. so might do 3 one hour naps from 8am to 6.30pm. that is tiring a bit. but i think that is my fault a bit as well as with our toddler there is alot of running around and social stuff and poor marta has been dragged around since birth. i am trying now to have a few stay at home by ourselves days to get marta a bit of rest. see how that goes...
maybe you have a grazed nipple? i find that when marta has been particularly cranky and tired she feeds a bit rough and i get an itchy nipple for a day or so until i whack some paw paw cream on it...mebbe??
Cherished: you go girl! nice collection of scrumptious food!! how did the sweet potato go? i remember DD1 loving it. marta on the other hand despises the colour orange lol.
great idea on storing the milk! i must do that as ATM all i do is express as we go. bit inconvenient lol.
(oh and i am doing some happy cheers for you and DH!!! :bluecheer:...this just wonderful news!!)
AFM: well as i mentioned DHs dad is here and we have enjoyed being tourists in our city! on valentines we headed out to a winery with the girls and did a full degustation...om nom nom!! marta enjoyed the duck lol! oh and the roast potatoes
we also started creche. oh boy. sooooooo not her sister! DD1 started and never looked back...marta is just hating it. i am so worried! i dont want to ever see her that distressed ever again in my life...oh man. when i finally got her to sleep in the hammock there she was still sobbing in her sleep :(. it was just AWFUL. i dont want to continue...aarrgghhh! but it is so weird as her sister loves it soooo much and she has made some great friends (as have we!). i'll try again for real in late march when we get back from townsville (the girls and i are going solo!).
Thanks for the nice warm welcoming....
Brydee's Birth weight was 3300g or 7pnd 5 1/2oz. She's the smallest of my girls! I actually worried ALOT about having a HUGE baby, thankfully that didn't happen...
So how many are you are on Maternity Leave?? I'm on 12months leave. I'm not due to go back until 1st August. Unless I go back earlier, but if I have it my way it won't be until I'm supposed to...I enjoy staying home with my girls. Maddison goes to daycare 3days a week. She's very active & I find she behaves better when she goes. I plan to start Brydee for 2 days a week at the end of March/early April. I use Family Daycare, I don't go too much on the centres but thats me! I did actually send Brydee for a day last week for a break after her 4 days of unsettledness. She was great, much to my surprise!
Cherished; Brydee's first taste was sweet potato & she LOVED it! We've tried normal potato, butternut pumpkin, carrot, banana, pear, apple & avacado. I think I was rushing things too quickly though so I've sort of cut back to one food every few days. ATM, I'm just tweaking her routine of solids so that we do Breakfast & then veges of an afternoon. I probably won't start the afternoon vege for another week or so yet...
Milly; its hard to have a baby who doesn't like sleeping much through the day. I like to try getting things done, some days thats just a joke. My first had a really solid routine, Brydee doesn't seem to slot into routines too easily...Do you still wrap her? maybe a nice warm bath before you put her down to relax her might help? Its hard to find the exact thing that soothes them since each day is different. Do you use a dummy? I know that some BF'ing mums don't like to use them, but it might free up some time for you!? And the "nipple" confusion stage should be gone now. It was the only way I got 5mins peace with Brydee while I was BF'ing...
Hello Everyone,
Welcome Mummyofgirls!!
Oh my has it been too long since posting... Things have just been very busy since going back to work!!
Cass: Sorry to hear bubba hasn't been enjoying creche :( it does get better for you and for Marta I promise - Audrey was unsettled for the first week and it absolutely killed me coz I can hear her from my room... Her little cries / screams and I knew exactly what she needed so I'd call her room and say that cry means... or that noise means... I know its easier coz I'm right there, but I have such a better understanding of what mummies and daddies go through when they have to drop their children off the care and they are upset. That feel in the pit of your stomach like you are the worst person in the world for leaving them :'( oh how I know... BUT and there is a BUT when they settle, which they will, they have such an amazingly fun time, the best thing is when they haven't seen you all day / a few hours and you walk through those doors and bubba gives you that MASSIVE gummy smile like "Mummy!!! You're here!! I love you" it just makes your day... Well that's how I feel when I see Audrey :D
Mily: Thanks for asking about me... Work has been great... Everyone there really respects my choice to continue BF and have no problems with me ducking out to feed bubs when she needs to.. which is just perfect... She's started solids too, so her feeds are now 4 - 4.5hrs which works in with my breaks so it really couldn't be more perfect... I have found that when my Mum has her on a thursday that Bub wants MORE than what I have expressed... Usually I can get 150mls MAX usually 100mls per pump ( I pumo for 10 - 15mins) but she usually takes a 200ml bottle 2 times a day... I'm lucky that I feed her when she wakes up, then Mum for Morning Tea then I come home for Lunch and then she'll feed her again just before I get home... But if I couldn't get home then it would be 4 bottles of 200mls and I can't get that much out when pumping..
Cherished: We started bubba on solids at 5 mths too!! :D So far she has had Apple, Sweet Potato and Pumpkin and she LOVES it... She gets so excited in her bumbo she almost pushes herself out LOL.... I too have frozen heaps, I freeze 48 cubes which lasts 2 weeks... I enjoy the cooking side of things so I am going to try and keep that up, but once she gets a bit older what ever we are having for dinner she will hae just mushed up!!
AFM: Things are really going well... Bubba has moved into her 000 clothes now LMAO a 5mth old only just fitting into them, most of thetime shes still in her 0000 but a few things git now... Work as I said is great.. Bub has really settled into kindy now, doesn't really sleep for long during the day, has an hour sleep in the afternoon, but usually only 20 - 40 mins... believe it or not, she is still really happy with that amount of sleep... she's busybody lol thinks shes missing out when she goes into the cot room HAHAHAHA quite cute really.. As long as she is happy the sleep doesn't bother me as she sleep through the night again 630-530 is the norm these days.. Waiting for the teeth to start then I'll lose my good nigh sleeps again hahahaha... Someone mentioned poos... Audrey would go every 3-4days but I too found she was a bit unsettled, since starting solids OH MY GOD.. poos everyday and its like real baby poo now, none of this nice none smelling poo its really gooy thick smelly poos (LOL sorry if TMI)... On a none baby front I bought my wedding dress 2 weeks ago!! It looks awesome.. this is it if you wanna see it The Bridal Centre ...
I got it a size smaller my incentive to get rid of this weight, turns out all I had to do was go back to work I've lost another 5 kilos, Ive got 2kgs to go before I'm pre baby weight but now I want to lose more for the wedding hehehehe... Sooo excited, I should get a ticker going for it too....
Hope I didn't miss anyone, sorry if I have... Hugs and Kisses to all!!!
Hope.Positive.Love; you sound really happy about being back at work! Good for you. Some days I can't wait to go back & others I dread it....I agree with you about how tough it is to leave our baby's in DC or what ever other care arangements are made. With my first DD I cried almost the entire day. She on the other hand LOVED it & while we had a few up & down days for the most part she loved it. And still does. I do too now, its my "ME" time where I can just be Nicole & not mum too...Its a lovely break...
When are you getting married? My hubby & I got married in May last year - I was 25weeks preggers with DD2...Wouldn't change a thing...Goodluck on the weightloss. If you don't mind, send some motivation my way please???! lol
So my eldest has come down with Tonsilitis. Other than a temp a few days ago you wouldn't even know she was sick. She's been whiney & grumpy but not once complained about a sore throat which is odd. Any who, she's got some antibiotics so in a few days should be heaps better..
I've had a few great days with Brydee. I hate saying anything like that cos I feel like I jinx myself. Touch wood it stays the way things have been. I've changed her solid "meal" to straight after her first bottle of a morning & so far its working well. I'll give it another few days/week & I'll introduce the 2nd around late afternoon....I love the age she's at right now because she's becoming sooo much more interactive towards EVERYTHING. She's gooing more & a few times it sounds as though she's saying "mmmum" but can't be sure...She's rolling around like a commando, lol. And tries to get her knees under her. Still not strong enough up the arms yet. Soon though.
Any ways best go find something for tea.
Hi girls,
Just sneaking in to say Cherished, I would love for you to do my avvy :) I haven't even found that other thread as I havent had a chance to get on here much lately.
Milly I think you asked about Brocks sleeps. He has 3 per day ususally 2-3 hours apart and will sleep anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours each time. He then usually falls asleep in his rocker at about 7-7.30pm (after a 6pm feed and bath) and I'll wake him up for a feed around 9-10pm then put him in his cot straight afterwards and he'll sleep til about 6am. I feel your pain though. DD was an aweful day sleeper. I am very lucky so far this time. Don't get me wrong, we did go through a rough patch with Brock but I really think that implementing the strategies in the Safe Sleep DVD (I think that was what it was called - it was all about making babies feel safe and secure in their sleep environment) that the MCHN got me to watch, really helped.
Welcome to BB Mumyof girls :)
HPL Brock has been at daycare since January (3 days a week) I was really worried at how he'd go but he's taken to it really well and his carers are great so I'm pretty happy with it all. Your little one sounds so dainty. brock is in 00 and sometimes even 0. He's not a chubby baby really but he's really long. I think he's going to be tall like his daddy.
How is everyones bub going developement wise? I've got to say I'm a little worried about Brockie at the moment. he is 6 months in 4 days time and he still wont bear his body weight on his legs. We try to get him to stand and he just collapses them. DD bore her body weight on her legs practically from birth. he does use his legs to kick a lot and to do 360's on the floor (like crab crawling on his back with his legs lol) but he just wont bear his weight on them. he also hasn't fully rolled over yet. I'm hoping he's just a bit lazy and that its nothing more serious. I'll be bringing it up with the Dr when we go for his vaccinations next week.
:hello: to everyone I've missed.
mama spice; From what i've heard & read about boys is that they're a little bit slower developmental wise. Maybe He'll just surprise you one day & bare his weight! I know is hard not to worry but each baby develops at their own pace. All you can do is keep giving him the opportunity to get used to his weight...Oh & about the rolling thing. Brydee hasn't really showed much interest in it; she first rolled over at about 4 1/2 months & didn't do it much at all again until recently, probably 2weeks ago. She's a bit of a lazy bones & looses interest really quick so I'd always have to change the object she was interested in.
Thanks Mummyofgirls., I hope you're right. I was speaking to his daycare teacher this morning about it and she said she had noticed his lack of bearing weight and rolling too. Which of course has me even more worried to hear it from someone else if you know what I mean. I cried all the way to work actually. I'm so worried my little man has cerebral palsy or something. I've booked him in to his paed but we cant get in til 19th April.
hi girls!!
HPL: omg! that dress is stunning!! *mwah* you are going to look gorgeous! when is the big day? we got married in 2008 when DD1 was 6 months old. it was funny because straight after the service she wanted a feed so i undid the top bit of my dress and fed her lol! got lovely shots of it, but boy i wish i had of had some EBM lol!
thanks for the encouragement with creche. i was just taken aback because she is such a chill baby...until she enters that place
mamaS: B sounds within the realms of normal i reckon. the range is so huge...some babies even start walking at 8-9 months :o. so mebbe he is just gunna do that lol! (joking!...gosh, imagine...we had a boy in our mg that walked at 9 months it was so trippy!). how do his legs look? do they look ok? no twists or anything in his hips?? i'm no expert though obviously. TBH i am sure that he is AOK, many babies dont roll over much at this age and sometimes they do and then they stop for awhile (that's what marta has been doing...). but if it is really worrying you then def get him checked out, peace of mind is worth it  19th of April is such a long wait! can you get on their cancellation list JIC???
i love the concept of safe sleep. it just makes sense! that said, i havent seen the DVD but if the gist is to show baby that sleeping is ok and safe, then i guess it is similar to our approach :dunno:
mummyofgirls: oh man i feel for your eldest...i had chronic tonsilitis a couple of years ago. it was the pits! so amazing that she hasnt complained about her throat! she must have good pain threshold lol. for me it felt like daggers.
AFM: all good here. we have been busy in saying goodbye to nonno :( he left for italy yesterday...even the dog is missing all the extra attention. spent the last two days at a 'paint party' for friends that are busily trying to get their house painted before moving in. soo exhausting! not so much the painting but the entertaining of bored kidlets lol. hopefully today is the last really long day :crossfingers:
Marta is growing like a champ. she is now able to lie on her belly and lift her chest off the floor and pop her knees under her and rock back and forth...she thinks she rocks when she does it too
this morning for brekky she stole some bacon and spinach off my plate and ate that. yesterday she shared a fruit platter with Leila and had some acidophilous yoghurt. i made sure it wasnt too much JIC for allergies, but she chomped through it like a champ :) i really love watching her experience the new tastes, watching those facial expressions are the best!
just had to share this funny happening today...
this morning we were visiting the neighours for our weekly tuesday gossip session and i had marta in a bumbo that i was given yesterday...i popped her too closely to the herb garden...she started eating all the herbs lol! she grabbed a big wad of rosemary and mint in each hand and went for gold lol!! my goodness i need to watch that kid lol. leila was never a mouthy baby at all!! so a whole new world of vigilance is upon me...
and yep, her breath was minty fresh
Gee, it's quiet in here!
Lol at Marta, it sounds like she'll have a very adventurous palate indeed. Perhaps she'll be a food critic one day :)
Well we had brocks 6 month Check at Gp today. He was supposed to have his vaccinations too but he has a bit of a cold so he has been spared for another week. My GP gave him a good looking over and said she's not overly concerned about his lazy legs etc yet. She said her DS didn't even roll til he was 9 months. It's given me some comfort. She said to see how he goes over the next few months then re-assess.
He's doing super well in all other aspects. 8.4kg clothed! But he doesn't look overly chubby because he's 73cm long! Which is pretty much off the charts for his age :) No surprise when daddy is 6ft5 though.
The funniest thing happened while we were there DD, who is 3 and a half decided to proudly exclaim to the Dr and Nurse that "Brock has got a big willy!" It was sooo funny
Hi Ladies,
Mamaspice I agree, very quiet.. Nothing really going on on our front... for marta and her eating.. We're slowly introducing foods to audrey, shes had apple, sweet pot, pumpkin, pear and thats it lol... oh and avocado.. avo and pumpkin make her PPPPPPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO so we're waiting a bit longer til we give it to her again lol....
Poor bubba has been pretty sick of late, has a cold of some sorts so when she sleeps, with her dummy, she cant breath out of her nose and starts to cough and spluter and wakes herself up poor poppet!! but she's in her BIG cot now :( im so sad its an end of an era now :( but mummy sleeps in the spare room right next to hers LMAO can't quite let go just yet, but shes too big for the craddle now, she likes to kick and wriggle in her sleep so the cot is awesome for her... Just mummy cant get use to the waking up and having to get out of bed to feed her at 1am lol... only one wake up but it means mummy has to actually wake up to feed, thank god for the rocking chair she has in her room!!
I cant believe ours bubs are almost 6mths old, or just gone 6mths... Did you know that this time last year I would have been 11wks and 5 days pregnant with Audrey.. It's insane, I am sooooo clucky, DF and I have decided we will TTC in Dec this year!! more than like that a while but we figure by mid next year to end next year hopefully be UTD :D so exciting to have a date in site... that and the wedding..
Oh Cass thanks so much about the comment on the dress, havent really shown many ppl it so its lovely to get some feed back!!
Best be off so tired atm!!
