i have also just gone on a booking frenzy - N is going to all these awesome concerts/shows - the gruffalo, Jazz festival intro for kids (which looks amazing with justine and jay) and also MSO kids concerts - one with Noni Hazelhusrt and another with Jay. lucky boy - i am loving all these awesome things... melb girls have you checked out artplay? it looks like it has fab stuff - and our kids will be getting into the right age group soon... check it out

Hey girls just posting quickly to say hello, wanted to do personals but am in shock after opening my mail because it seems I have a regular little cyber-criminal on my hands. My Darling Daughter has taken illegally downloaded (and inappropriately themed) music to school & downloaded it to her personal drive, in breach of about 4 different parts of their ICT policy AND then, when her drive was too full to do work on it, has logged on with someone else's name and password :o.

I'm frikken FURIOUS :angry:. Out in the real world, that's a sackable offence. Not to mention she has betrayed our trust (we allow her to have the non-radio edit versions of some songs on the undertaking she keeps it to herself). Guess who's getting every single electronic device she possesses confiscated for the entire period of the ICT ban???

Ohhhhhhh! I'm guessing someone is getting a huge 'please explain' when she gets home today? I wonder what made her do it, if she got talking to friends and it kinda escalated from there. I hope she learns her lesson and you don't have to be too tough on her :hug:

MP, I hope you can get something sorted out. It sounds like it is really rough on both of you atm and I wish I had some sort of advice that would help, but I have no idea at all how you can make him drink. We get hardly any shows out here, not good ones anyway. I bet he will have heaps of fun at them.

LOL at the talk of girls clothes. You can end up spending way too much way too easy but I have learned that you need to shop for bargains and avoid paying full price. I will buy most of their stuff of the discounted rack - like at PP a few weeks back I got a shedload of stuff for the girls that was last seasons stock and it was over $200 worth of stuff, but I got it all for $80. I only brought her one pair of winter pants that were this seasons line. Then there was another shop I go to that stocks all the big names - fred bare, esprit, mini-ha-ha etc and got A two pairs of esprit jeans and pants and a pair of esprit jeans for P for $60 because they were on the cheap racks. A few years ago now I got a skirt for E that was an oshkosh and it was $60 new, so obviously I didn't buy it and then the following year, it was on their $10 rack LOL. I couldn't believe my luck!

AFM, well I am taking the plunge and have enrolled A in daycare, starting this friday. I need to go to school and get some observations done and Dh can't take him and I am running out of time to do it so this is my only option. Usually we get MIL to take the kids if DH can't but I don't want to use her for something like this kwim? Plus there will be times over the coming years when I will need care for more than just 1 day, so I figured we may as well start now. Not sure how he will go, but I think he will be OK. Centres are pretty depressing places though aren't they? I have never been in one before and it just seemed like a prison for little kids with security gates on everything. I half expected to see a kid rattling a tin cup along it :rofl: I don't mean that as a slight against them, and the centre is great and I know all bar two of the staff personally, but the only experience I have ever had with early childhood stuff is preschool, which is a glorious and fun place of learning kwim? So then I had to go through the rigmarole of getting a CCB % and all that jazz. We get a % of 34.08 so we only have to pay $34 odd dollars for the morning session, which is 4hrs so that's not too bad i suppose, but then I have no idea of what is cheap or expensive anyway.

Trill I kwym about the child care centres - and don't get me wrong, some of them are fantastic and I'm a big fan esp of some of the community ones in our area - but to me they seem kind of institutional. But some ppl prefer that structure and they get lots of exposure to stimulating activities all good in the end. I hope you find your child care time is productive :).

MP - I hope the nurse can give you some really useful strategies - you have coped with so much lately. Will you have some time off to chill out over the April long weekend?

I agree, you described it well. I couldnt' articulate the words earlier LOL. I would prefer FDC, but because it is only occasional care, I'm fine with it. I would rather the working Mums use FDC than someone like me who will only use it when I absolutely need to. Plus FDC around here is really hard to get your kids into, there is a shortage of carers ATM.

MP, how did the visit go? I hope she was able to help.

Hello, I'm back again, brain function now restored. DD was painfully remorseful and happy to take the consequences on the chin - even tho it seems like one of the infractions might have been based on a misunderstanding by the teacher (she allowed someone else to use her internet access to get some pictures he needed, not the other way around) so now I have a moral dilemma as to whether I should argue the point with the teacher or just let her wear it and learn possibly a more memorable lesson about not engaging in ambiguous ICT activities. Also after she explained, it was more a case of just not thinking thru the consequences rather than wilfull sneaky behaviour. Just a little slice of what you all have to look forward too :)

All this talk of girlie wardrobe extravaganzas is making me feel like I'm fashionistically remiss. Although I think Missy E will be more demanding re clothes than DD ever was. She frequently asks to wear particular things (esp girlie things like skirts and dresses and hair clippies) so I'm guessing this will only develop.

Arte - TTing DD1 was very much like that - it's like she was completely ready so all we had to do was remove the daytime nappies and she just went for it. Only ever very few accidents (usually due to getting distracted playing with something which might've been avoided if I'd reminded her more). Maybe it is that easy - when they're ready. :)

Leanne - I hope your dad is doing better and better each day.

Ginger, glad you are feeling so settled and loving where you are. We've been such boring stay-at-home-ers for the last year and a bit that now we're trying to get out and about and appreciate where we're at a bit more. Nice time of year for it too.

i was considering putting L into montessori kinder term 3 this year but i've having doubts. think i might just wait till 2011 and go from there.

well afm: the little rockstar is walking now which is kinda scary! he is a total clutz though and is covered in bruises atm.
i have got bloody mastitis again and am in a lot of pain. of course everyone is encouraging me to wean but it's just not that bloody easy to wean a toddler. i'm not sure what to do about it all at the moment to be honest with you.

I bet we see a whole new Nikki in season 4 - because of what happens in the final ep. That reminds me I better go do something.

Just a quick hello from the depths of the jungle. Internet access has been somewhat on and off and as slow as a wet week when it was on. So this is my first time on for a while.

We are settling in well over here. The girls are great. They are both sleeping well too which is a bonus! Sas had a great 1st birthday. I made a cake and a few treats with the limited grocery supplies i could access. A few local kids came over to sing happy birthday and jump on the tramp. Was a fun day.

So much has happened already, too much to tell. I am going to try and start that blog i was talking about if anyone is interested in my ramblings.

Lu is toilet trained now. But i put a nappy on her if we go on a long car trip as it is too dangerous to stop in a lot of places. She seems cool with it. I hope i don't mess things up by doing that. :dunno:

Have baked a quiche and a banana cake this morning while our house Meri (house lady) did the dishes and watched the kids! :D I am enjoying the simple life, and certainly love having help around the house.

I tried shopping for K on the weekend, but couldn't find anything that wasn't pink. Very frustrating. We are going to toilet train over Easter - hope it goes as well for us as it did for you Arte!! We've had occasional successes, but other times not so much. We've stocked up big on the Big W undies so it's just a matter of seeing what happens!

Great to see you Junglemum, I have been thinking about you a lot esp with the cyclones around up there - has it been really rainy there? Do you like your new house - what's it like (I'm imagining a clad-house on stilts, darwin-style) - so yeah I'd be really interested in your blog if you start one. Also interested to know what area you ended up in? Is your house meri teaching you any of the local lingo?

Cally - Oh yeah, I got one of my layby parcels home last week and opened it and whoops - major pink fest! LOL Although this year they are gorgeous fuschia/cherry sort of colours so I don't mind too much. Missy E looks fabulous in cherry red and also light blue so I'll have to hunt around a bit more.

MP- keen here to hear how it went too.

Ginger - hmmm - tricky question re the mastitis. I think you need to seperate the question of weaning from the management of mastitis otherwise you'll just feel like you made the decision out of a not-positive space. Are you getting blockages in a persistant spot? Try to rotate the position around so J's lower jaw is over the quandrant where the problem is, don't forget the hot compresses. I have even seen a mum fill a tub full of warm water and lean over and hang her boosies into it - the gravity & the warmth & the pressure of the water can help clear it. If not it might be worth seeing someone who can do some ultrasound on the breast - it can help break up a persistant problem. Other thing - get a repeat for a course of ABs and get it filled and keep it in the cupboard to start taking it the second you feel it coming on - honestly even a couple of hours can make all the difference on how bad it is before it starts getting better. :hug:

Well the dentist was easy peasy (well compared to some of the things I've had done) and she reckons it was the worst filling they will have to do out of the NINE (:o) so I'm stoked. Had a turbo clean, weird modern sand-blasting technique but not ouchy like the old style scratch & gouge. I'm loving this new technology!

Hi Jungle Mum- we miss you! i'd love to read your blog.

md- i really don't feel ready to give up bf yet. this is my last baby and it feels so forever to stop. i feel like the mastitis is forcing my hand. i'm having trouble seperating the two as i just feel so crap. the problem is stemming from a deep crack that wull not heal. the crack in itself is ok to manage, but it seems that it just keeps flaming up iykwim? and then it leads to mastitis. this is the 3rd course of abs i've been on in 2 months. i don't think an u/s would help me as it all boils down to the stupid crack iykwim? i think i'm just gonna see out this course of abs, smother the stupid thing in lanisoh and take it day-by-day. it is not a nice feeling to feel forced into weaning though as neither of us is quite ready yet. i feel like i've got another 3-4 months in me before i really start to want to wean.

another question for you all- we've been invited to a wedding on may 14 and i'm already getting stressed about it. there was no mention of bringing kids along- the couple themselves don't have kids so don't really get it iykwim?( i didn't get it before i had my own kids either btw). the wedding is a 3pm-11pm sort of thing at a winery but quite a relaxed affair with a buffet meal and home-made cake kinda thing iykwim? the thing is, i'm not ready to leave jimmy for that amount of time yet. i just don't have anyone who i feel comfortable to leave him with. he is still bf to sleep at night and can be really fussy, clingy and need to be held late at night kinda thing. he's going through massive seperation anxiety. dad is fine to have lewis...but dad is 70 yo and i just don't feel like i can leave him with the 2 kids for that amount of time yet- i just feel like j is still too high maintanence and it would be too much for dad. so do you think it's rude of us to take jimmy to the wedding? i'm thinking i can just wrap him up and bf him to sleep and pop him in the pram once it gets late, or even just wear him in the ergo but i don't want to offend people. what would you guys do?

Have you been using lanisoh on it the whole time? Sometimes keeping the crack wet like that doesn't help...so if it's not helping, try leaving it to dry out. If it is working (and the problem is you're not using it until healed) then keep at it. ETA - and maybe try to 'rest' the sore side as much as possible, feed more from the good side.

Ginger - best thing is to contact the bride/groom and ask if it's ok to bring Jimmy with you. It might mean you don't stay as long as you might have, but sometimes I think it's more acceptable to bring a younger child than an older one. That's just me ( and I have taken my breastfed DDs out to events which have excluded older children and no one has minded). But ask anyway.

Thanks for your advice md. i have not been using lanisoh the whole time, i've only just gotten onto it from advice from the dr as it was forming a scab and then getting re-opened. he reckons the lanisoh helps it to heal while wet iykwim? it seems to be making a difference. i am favouring the good side but then it is getting engorged which doesn't help the mastitis iykwim? aggggggg i'm so sick of it all. just wish it would all sort itself out and i could happily go on to bf for another few months.

i guess i will just have to ask the bride- i'm so scared she'll say no though! she did make a flippant comment a few weeks that has thrown me a bit. she sort of mentioned in conversation 'who will you get to look after the kids?' which made me think she definitely doesn't want them there. ggrrrrrr. i also am a bit of a chicken and don't like being judged about bfing a toddler. i know, i know, it's stupid...but i just don't want people thinking 'omg!' that i have to bring a bf toddler along. it is a different case to a newborn you know? i personally think it's quite unfair though to expect parents to leave kids under 2yo. i can understand the older kids thing, but jimmy is still such a baby iykwim?

Look, let her be judgemental. It doesn't rub off on you. And even tho J is toddling he's still a baby who relies on his mumma. Pooey to what anyone else thinks about that. It's only a wedding for crying out loud - I think people get wrapped up in a whole lot of OTT expectations when that's not even what the event is about.

ETA - re the breastfeeding - I was secretly relieved when I finally weaned Missy E - it was such hard work this time - (not helped I suppose by having a lump of BC in there) but even though I would've liked to feed much longer, I was happy that the pain etc hadn't forced my hand. It's a different kind of disappointment. Hang in there, it'll be a few more tricky days and then one day you'll think - that didn't hurt! And then you can keep at it until you're both ready to give it away. :hug:

i spoke to dh about the wedding when he got home and he said we're definitely taking J. he doesn't feel comfortable leaving dad to bath the 2 kids on his own, especially as L gets v over excited and acts up a lot when he's at grandpa's iykwim? i have to agree, it's too much to expect of dad. so stuff it, we're taking J and that's that! L and grandpa are going to have a boys night and go to Mcdonalds for dinner and watch a dvd. it'll be great for both of them.
i'm actually having a couple of hours to myself tomorrow. i'm so excited. i'm dropping the 2 of them at dad's house in the morning and then going off for 2 hours by myself! can't wait :)

AFM: all good here. leila appears to be dropping her day sleeps, but that's ok as she copes alright. as long as we have some 'quiet time' it's all good. she also came down with some conjunctivitis over the weekend. finally got in to the dr and it is clearing up, but wasnt pleasant what with the 39 temp and sleepless nights. poor baby.
