Ginger, what MD said. Go with the one that suits you now, don't worry about feeders - it will be great for him to start with a friend and he will make new ones when he gets to school.
JM, thanks for the advice about stopping the night feeding. I have finally pulled my head out of the sand and admitted that it is what I have to do.
Clare, we did fight a hard battle to get W to go to sleep for DH, but after A was born and W wasn't waking up much it slipped back to me doing it and then when he started waking heaps again it was too late - he tantrums for DH now. I haven't looked into sleep consultants, but we are 6 hours from Auckland and 4.5 from Wellington and I really doubt there are any in between.
After yet another crap night with dual wake-ups, I have decided that we need to fix this sleep now instead of leaving it to drag on for years like it has with W. So now DH is on W duty and I will attempt to resettle A without feeding. I have been putting it off because I am too tired to do the hard yards, but I figure that it is better to be completely stuffed for a couple of weeks rather than being semi-stuffed for the next year. And DH has a short week/long weekend this week so I don't feel bad if he is tired.

Arte, good luck with that, stick with it for at least a week, you should see some signs of improvement sooner rather than later ...hopefully you'll get some immediate rewards. Around the same age, (after I went to sleep school, that is), I was giving E one last feed around 10.30-11.00, then no more feeds until at least 5.30-6.30...she may still need some boobie between dusk and dawn but you decide when you're gonna do it, kwim? Great idea to get DH onboard with settling W, he is old enough to reason with. I will be thinking of you, praying it all clicks into place finally. xxx and
Ginger, yep we got some, just plain uncrackable ones, at easter, in a little cardboard carton, 3 white and 3 brown. She also has some fried eggs made out of felt which get a lot of use. :)
-
Arte, I hope that it works for you  But remember that it might get worse before it gets better kwim? You just have to stay strong, and keep going when it gets rough OK?
G, my two cents worth ;) is that you should send him to the second one as well. It really doesn't matter in the scheme of things whether one is a feeder kinder or not because over the years, there will always be friends coming in and out of his life kwim? The way it works here, is that there is only 1 preschool that caters for an entire district - there is a child care centre that has a preschool program, but 98% of kids go to the preschool. All the kids will eventually go off to 7 different schools. When the older kids have gone there, all their best friends at preschool were going to go to one of the other schools. With L and E, it didn't matter so much because they were the type of kids that make friends easily and have a wide social circle, but with P, she is a one-friend kinda girl. Her bestie is at the catholic school and they were inseperable and P hasn't made another friend like the one she has in her bestie itms. She still has friends, but none like G is. I have seen kids like P, but a whole lot worse because they simply cannot function if their friend isn't there and refuse to socialise with other children. So what I'm saying is that I think it is important that they learn how to make friends if they need to and not become too reliant on the ones they have already. I'm sure that you will still make it possible for him to see his friends if they go to different schools and personally I think it makes for better adjusted children if they are able to adapt to not having their regular friends around them and be able to make new ones.

Good on you Arte- It is so worth the effort in the end, i promise!
G- Definitely the 2nd one. In 2 years he will be so much more grown up and wont need as much nurturing. Right now a good environment is essential. Don't even give a second thought to friends, i am with Trill on that one, i think it is good for kids to adjust and make new friends. I went from kindy to school with only 2 other boys and i went from a public primary to a private secondary school with no friends. I was FINE! It was a good opportunity to make new friends. :) He'll still have his other friends so long as you are socialising with the mums.
L told me today her name is now Ella, or Ella-bella like Angerina Barina (Angelina ballarina ;) ). Oooooh-K then. *rolleyes* We also had this conversation...
"Mumma, did you remember me when i went to dance class yesterday?"
"No i don't remember. Who else was there?"
"Angerina Barina's kids. Not Angerina Barina, just her kids"
hmmm, no lack of imagination anyway! My worst nightmare is coming true. A girl into ballet?! :wall: Ok i might be jumping a step ahead, but she does like the book and loves to dance around all the time.
-
ROFL Ange! I'm guessing ballet wasn't really on the horizon if it were up to you? ;) At that age they change their minds as often as you have to change their pants LOL. Next week it will be something different.
-
Come over to the dark side, JM: paint her bedroom pink!!!
DD1 has never been a girly girl but always into loads of dancing and dress-ups (without the pastiche of pastel girliness) - but we balanced it out with lots of lego and sports and museum visits and exposure to strong non-girly female role models. DD2 is going to be harder, this FDC lady has more of a girly thing going on...she came home today with her nails painted hot pink LOL.

just had horrible news tonight that my Oma (grandmother) had a major stroke. GP called my mum tonight (never a good sign when it's an STD call lol) to say that this is the one; she is in a coma, but they dont expect her to wake up. pretty devastated. so no doubt i will be offline in the coming week or two as i will have to fly up to QLD regardless to be with Opa. poor man this must be hard on him.
JM: will be sending L a tutu ASAP LOL!
Arte: wishing you strength and success for the coming weeks. like Sherie said, it will get worse for a bit, BUT will get better and stay better...well that at least was our experience. it will test you though
-
 So sorry to hear that C. x

yay thats great news G! i am so excited for you.
wanted to update you girls on J and his weight - remember i was worried a while back...
well i went to nurse on mon and he is 65% for height and 10th for weight. so long and thin! nurse not worried at all, thinks he is perfect! (well duh!!).
he is so delicious atm, crawling around, happiest bub in the world... love him sooo much. still having bad nights.. I am with you Arte though at least N doesnt wake anymore... I think i also need to wean at night - he has about 3 feeds o'night... I am try9ing to remember when N stopped this.. I know he had a feed at 4am for AGES (though was bottles by 12 months i think).
I am also getting over expressing at work now - think I will stop soon and get them to do cows milk at kindy...
G - did you wanna do billy lids this weekend? Clare - you too (though I think you may be away)
-
Cass - big hugs hon
Mp - K was down to one overnight feed (about 11 or 12pm) from 7.5 months after we went to sleep school. Then a month later she started sleeping all night and I cut them out completely at 9 months. So she would have a bedtime one about 7:30 and that was it until about 6am. How is he going with the solids? Glad the nurse was happy and has set your mind at ease.
Ginger - so glad you made the decision I was hoping for, everyone had very good advice. I went to a fair few schools in my time and never had much trouble making new friends. Bit harder now....
Arte - I think you've made the right decision, each of you taking on one child. Like the others have said it is hard at first, but not having to get up during the night (or at least only a little one) is so worth it!
Well after K having massive sleepins last week and being late for work all week (she had a bit of a cough) she is making up for it this week with 3 mornings in a row of 5:30 topped off with a 5am this morning (although no overnight visits which is a change). I totally lost it at her yesterday morning at 6am, but it was almost worth it considering how much breakfast she ate, the way she got dressed with no need for chasies, arguing over socks etc. Still felt bad afterwards and had to do a walk of the block when I got to work to clear my head. My parents are coming down this afternoon and they are taking her back to Canberra for at least 3 nights so she can see her cousin and spend a bit of time with them (seeing as their trip was delayed). DH and I are hanging out for Thursday night - a whole night knowing that we won't get woken up and can wake up when we're ready!! I have all these plans of things that would be good to get done around the house but it wouldn't surprise me if nothing happens - at least not the things that DH needs to be involved with. He is definitely a relax before jobs kind of person. Whereas I like relaxing knowing that everything is done (which does also mean that I don't end up with much relaxing time these days)
-
Cally - his solids are going great now. he is into finger foods only but eats pretty much everything... not into bfast (like N) but i am ok with his appetite generally. hmmm think i better get a little more hard core on the night feeds... he is 11 months!
Arte - we each take one onight - lucky DH gets N who pretty much sleeps through! that said he now helps me with Ja lot, but J is only into me at night so it isnt much use...
I am a relax befor ejob kinda gal 0- i think bc my days are so full on... drives DH Mad!!! I am trying to do some jobs before i relax now... so things do get done. not a lot of time for any of it atm, consdiering i am usually in bed at 9 or 9.30!
i have my first slow cooker recipe om at the moment, hopei dont go home to a burnt/dry/yuk mess! didnt seem like much liquid...
also didnt realise you have to brown the meat etc brfore - i was hoping it's be a chuck it all in raw kinda deal...
-
j still feeds a lot over night. i'm just going with it atm, hoping he will stop in his own time. sooner would be better than later though!
i can do billylids this saturday morning if you like?
-
MP, if you're in a hurry, don't brown the meat, it does add a bit of flavour but sometimes you get a more tender result without the browning.
I'm definitely a relax before jobs kinda gal (thanks so much for introducing the concept Cally) LOL one look at the state of my house reveals all...BTW I cannot believe you would have any trouble making friends now...sounds like maybe you're just a bit too busy! (aren't we all)
G, so glad you made a decision and the visit confirmed all that. Nice to have your plans in place...I haven't even started to think about kindy or even highschool for DD1...better add that to my mental (and not getting any shorter) list.
Arte, waiting in breathless anticipation to hear how it's going there?
Well I had a Madam Maudlin moment yesterday sorting through some more baby gear to give away. *sob* though I admit some things went back into the storage tub, just couldn't do it all at once...managed to cull by 2/3 and saved only the nicest things that I'm most attached to...just found out one of my nearest dearest friends is pg (? I think I told you that?) so kinda hoping she cracks a pink one this time...gives me an excuse to hang onto everything for a couple more months LOL. I toyed with the idea of cutting bits of fabric out of some of the favorites and making a quilt, but then thought....naaaaw...it's never gonna get made.
