trill- i'm sure you'll love your prac and be even more convinced that you've chosen the right path. i remember getting so attached to some of the kids and thinking 'i can't wait till i have my OWN class' iykwim?

i forgot to tell you all that as part of the festival of L's birthday that never seems to end, we went to the melb museum the other day and all i can say is 'wow'!!! what a fantastic day out! they actually have a dinosaur exhibition on at the moment so L absolutely loved it. melb girls you have to get along to see it!

Trill, I'm sure the prac will only confirm what you already know and can feel in your bones, this is sooooo RIGHT for you! You are hitting your stride, babe!

Me on the other hand - prac confirmed the bleeding obvious - I was never and should never have contemplated teaching carpet rats. Adults, on the other hand...well that's why I *love* being in library - so much of it is about sharing knowledge and imparting valuable skills so that people are empowered to help themselves. Well in my library it is, anyway LOL.

ETA - speaking of which, episode one of series 3 of The LIbrarians was on last night. That show is freakin hilarious!

I need to catch up on iView tonight - we had rain last night and ****ty weather always makes the ABC go fuzzy, so I couldn't watch it. I love it too.

MD: i know! i was laughing sooo hard last night. love that show. i used to go to a baby rhyme time with the chick who plays 'dawn'. i had to stop myself from staring at her lol!

G: no real poo tips from us either...just that we harped on about how awesome it is to do poos on the toilet and we would discuss at length all the kids we knew that did poos on toilets ha ha ha! eventually she just went one day and we made a big song and dance and brought the Extra Special stickers...
J man has weaned! wow! i agree that it seems sooo much better when they wean themselves in a timely fashion lol. leila did the same...although her parting 'punch' of my boob that morning was a bit rough lol.

Sherie: ooohh aahhh! how exciting about the teaching prac! i remember that one of mum's friends did her prac in my class when i was a kid, it was pretty cool.

AFM: more mastitis. ahh well! on stronger ABs now and hopefully getting into the RWH breastfeeding clinic in the coming days. we had a lovely day yesterday visiting friends, leila and her son (who is the same age) were playing 'house' and they had a baby...this baby has a trachea doovalacky thingy (this is the family with the special needs baby) on and apparently they were pretending to suction their baby the same way that my friend does with her baby lol. they dont miss a beat these kids! Leila also helped herself to their bathtub as we dont have one at home (:(), so she was living it up in a big bubble bath. she was soo tuckered out that we were only allowed to read short stories as she told us she was sooo tired lol.

cass- sorry to hear about the mastitis. it is the worst isn't it? i had it 5 times with J..have to say that is one thing that i'm glad i'll never get again.

yeah the mastitis is *interesting*. this is the second bout in as many weeks....BUT the good news is that i have a spot at the BF clinic at the RWH. a whole day with the LC should make me feel that we are doing the best we can...i have suspicions that this is an attachment issue as Marta is a hard and fast feeder and tuckers herself out quickly and gets a bit lazy on the old boob.

We were pulled up yesterday at kindy as they are a bit worried about Ls emotional outbursts...she had 3 massive ones yesterday (very unlike her!). but they reckon it is new baby stuff (they see it all the time) but they thought i should just know and keep tabs on it with them...now i am paranoid!! she has been quick to meltdown lately, but i figured it was an age thing...but mebbe not...like this morning she cracked it big time when her umbrella was left in the house as opposed to coming in the car with her :dunno:

hmmmmm, will have to rip out the robin barker tomes and see what she reckons lol!

Cass, it is more than likely just adjustment stuff, but it could be her personality too. E was exactly the same - she is a very emotional girl and has a very very short fuse. And A has moments when things have to be *just so* and will let you know if you get it wrong LOL. Fingers crossed the day stay works for you too!

G, we have had poo in the Spidermans too LOL. Thankfully not many though because its gross. It's funny when he has done it because it makes him gag as I'm taking them off and I say to him 'well how do you think I feel?' ROFL.

Cass - we don't have a new baby but can also have meltdowns for minor things (like if I wear my winter dressing gown instead of the summer one like this morning) or if we can't find a particular pair of pink leggings (even though we have another pair EXACTLY the same)

girls i think i may have really upset him when he did a poo in the spidermans cos now he is completely refusing to wear undies at all. he is screaming at me everytime i pull undies out of the drawer and going and getting nappies. it's like we're going completely backwards here. it's really upsetting me cos i want him TTd before he starts kinder in feb :(

Ginger, maybe go back to nappies for a bit and start again? He will probably not want to wee in the nappies anyway....I don't know. It is a hard call. Feb is still a long time away, I am sure that he will get the hang of it before then :hugs:

Clare, lots of meltdowns about minor things here too. I notice with W that if he is worried about something else then it is likely to manifest as a meltdown about something trivial later - I have been asking him if he is actually upset about the sandwich filling etc or if there is something else he is upset about and often there is. I know W was much younger when A came along, but after a few weeks when DH went back to work and we started our new normal he had a terrible patch (read months) of tantrums. Ahhhh the memories lol.

Trill, I am sure you have said but what sort of teacher are you going to be? Early childhood, primary, high school?

Kindy again today. I left for half an hour again. Apparently he sooked for the first 10 minutes and then was fine so next week we are going to try leaving for longer - I think after he is over the initial 'mum is gone' then it doesn't matter how long I am away for. And in the morning the kids all sit on the mat and sing the national anthem and do some of the haka actions - OMG it is adorable! Love it!

ok so we're back in nappies now. so over it though. big waste of money too

G: totally. nappies are sooo expensive. honestly, Leila just started doing poos on the toilet one day, with no prompts. she ripped her nappy off and away she went. that said, she does stare at all the kids in her room at kindy when they go to the toilet...so maybe it clicked one day...other than that she was a notorious 'nugget' in the knickers kinda gal.

yeah i'm just kinda hoping it clicks one day. he tells me about all his friends that do poos on the toilet but he doesn't want to do it :(

should we try to find a play centre at a half way point or what do you think? i prefer parks because they are out in the fresh air but at least at a play centre they are locked in and safe......

Ginger, bummer about going back to nappies, hopefully soon he will realise that all the other kids are in undies and want them back.

I have to agree with all the ladies who said they were toddler mums - A has just got about a million times more interesting since she started moving. I was completely over her just sitting there and grizzling if she wanted to move. Now she is all over the place and much happier.

I gave up the secret cigarettes about a week ago and OMG I can barely function! I thought that I was handling the sleep deprivation much better this time round but it turns out I am not really - I was just substituting sleep for stimulants lol! I had to buy some Coke just to finish today - by 3pm I was a mess, could barely keep my eyes open and was about to burst into tears. So now I don't know what to do. Obviously smoking isn't the best idea for my health, but after having GD I know that Coke is the fast track to diabetes for me. Arrgghhhhh, if only she would sleep! WTF don't my kids sleep?

I just thought of the obvious answer - coffee!! I hate the stuff and am very caffeine sensitive. The only cup I have ever had was for a dare and my heart was racing for about an hour afterwards and I didn't sleep for 30 hours lol, but if I hide a bit in a hot chocolate it might just be the answer! Tried it this morning, hopefully it will keep me awake enough during the day and I will still be able to sleep tonight.

Yeah, I am not good with caffeine - I have to substitute the coffee in chocolate mud cake for decaf or I am up all night (or I could eat less cake...).

AFM, writhing around in PAIN today after I found out how much my CC fees are now that my CCB has been adjusted (adjusted down from what it should be to avoid overpayment). It's more than HALF what I am earning (which wasn't very much to start with)!!!!! Ow-ow-ow-ow!

MD- That's gotta hurt and make you wonder if it's worth it?! :o

Arte- Granny faked it. She's fine now. She had a blocked bowel but came out the other side just fine. My brother is on anti-convolcents and seeing two of the best neurologist in Melb to try and work out what is causing the seizures followed by coma. He hasn't had another since and they have stopped his psych med bar one and he is doing well considering. But just when we think he's ok he ends up in ICU so i don't like to say it iykwim. Thanks for asking. :)

Arte - oh, that mini haka sounds just gorgeous! I wish I was susceptible to caffeine, but it doesn't seem to do much to me. I'd stick with the decaf in the cake, don't want to even think about eating less cake!!

MD - Ouch, half your wage on childcare!

Ginger - bummer about the nappies, fingers crossed that he just gets it one day (and soon).

AFM - feeling a bit flat at the moment. I'm putting it down to a schoolfriend having her second last week and getting very stressed at work at the moment. On the bright side though, Dad just rang - his PSA (cancer indicators) have gone down from 75 to 0.08 - way to go hormones, shrink that tumour!! Radiotherapy starts in early January.

Cally that is AWESOME news about your dad's PSA count! Fantastic :cheer:.

Cally, I have been meaning to ask about your dad - that is fantastic news! Do you feel like you might want another bub? Or just the nostalgic/life is moving on feeling that comes when someone else has a new baby?

and ah, yes, i reckon whenever there is a new baby around it certainly brings up alot of stuff...i'm finding that even with my own baby lol! (i had to pack away the 0000s today...as, forever pack and there was a pang...).

MD: :jawdrop: that is insane. but i guess we are pretty close to that halfway threshold too. we pay almost $100 for each day that leila is in care...totally expensive. i am just thankful that she loves it!

JM: fantastic! we need to catch up! the weather will be awesome and we can totally smash some parks for the kids. i am happy to come up the mountain near Gs if it suits everyone...

as for the sleeping...man i have no idea. my neighbour asked me the same thing yesterday when i mentioned that marta had done a few 8 hour nights. her 2 kids just don't and have never. her DH settles one kid (the eldest when he wakes) and she settles the 1 year old when she wakes. they've done the sleep schools etc. and nada...it's crazy! beautiful and happy kids though...you'd think they would be zombies given all the wake-ups but nup...just the parents lol.

AFM: all good here. DH has just layed out the new grass!!! so now we have 'sir waltered' our backyard! YAY! and on the subject of housing we just got the house valued today and they are pegging it at mid 700s :o we could never afford that lol! for two bedrooms...it's insane.

priced a springfree tramp today...man, the small one we want is still at the $1000 mark. anyone know a better price or where to look for a round tramp? i want to get one for the girls this xmas but sooo dont wanna pay that much...or is that just the price and i have to suck it up?!

We have a springfree one and it is totally awesome. But G's $400 is pretty good too. Not as good, but certainly fine. :p

Trill- Not too much yet, the only trouble is all the conflicting advice about Malaria prophylaxis! But we'll get there. Nausea is not a patch on the last two and i CAN NOT eat sweet things without gagging. Can't drink soft drink or juice?! weird.

Well I've just about used up another whole frikken day trawling through the paperwork, on the phone to centrelink, doing all the sums (cos it takes me twice as long as it used to LOL). I interrogated my pay section for a down to the cents amount for how much I will earn the whole year, and it turns out I over estimated a bit. I also crunched the numbers and the amt of CCR in the final qtr will more than cover any "overpayment" so I had Ctrlink remove the automatic adjustment. It's an insanely complicated system, it has changed to try to prevent ppl from having overpayments but there are all these tiers plus there are 2 different ways to calculate it (???) So anyway, the final figure will come down a bit, not a huge amount, but jayz I'd rather it in my pocket every fortnight than in theirs!

I was hoping to have a pleasant day relaxing and chillin out since I'm having surg tomorrow. Not that it matters, I'll be in a pleasant drug-addled haze by this time tomorrow LOL. Nothing big but I am having my port taken out :cheer:!

Cass, wtg on the house value! and Yay for Sir Walter. We've got the Knights of the Round-Up Table here (ie dandelions, bindy-eyes, etc LOL). DH has done feed&weed twice but timed it wrong and the rain washed it all way. Looking like BFC will need a crew-cut for the *****les again this summer.

Re tramps - we got an Action 8 ft - not springless but round - from sportsman's warehouse or Big W (can't remember which) for well under $200 with a net. The mats pretty much cover the springs and the tension is even all the way round.

JM that's weird about the juice etc...that was one thing I really loved when pregnant (when everyhing else tasted funny). I suspected the malaria advice might turn into a bit of a minefield for you. :hug: ETA - missed your earlier post. Glad tricksy Gran is ok. Also your bro, soo hope they can get some long term explanations for him.

JM, could you eat sweet with the girls? I projectile vomited fizz when I was early pregnant with W and didn't drink it again until after he was born (good times...). I say it is a boy!

OMG how much is child-care over there? $100 per day!! The fee's for the daycare W plays at are about $4.50 per hour, and 3 and 4 year olds get 20 free hours per week. And I wonder how parents here afford daycare!

MD, not sure how BIL is. I found the best/only sleep specialist in the country that deals with his sleep disorder (at his request) but he wouldn't answer the phone so I sent him a text with the info. I have no idea if he is going to give it a try. It is seriously frustrating when people won't help themselves. Good luck for tomorrow!

Clare, the next-doors sound like us. A is currently awake for 13-14 hours during the day with a 20-40 minute nap and then wakes about 4-6 times overnight. She is a box of happy birds. I am tired.
W is on the cusp of sleeping through, he usually wakes once a night but sleeps the whole night once or twice a week now. He is DH's job at night, because I am just too stuffed to do everything. I am hoping that the extra exertion of kindy will push him over the edge and get him sleeping properly.
And Yay for M doing 8 hours! Awesome!
I am still BF, but luckily A doesn't seem to care if I have caffeine. W is like me and a sip of Coke when I was BF him would be a disaster.

Clare - we bought a VULY tramp - it is awesome... nor springless but covered and w a net.. i think it was about $600 all up (its a 10 foot one) but it gets v good saftely ratings etc. both boys use it every single day... best thing we have bought.

All good today. Not quite like brushing my teeth but yeah I'm a bit of an old hand these days. Port = infusaport, it's this round thing I had in my chest that they plugged a special needle in to give me chemo (saves your veins). It was my little friend and I'm kinda sad to see it go (....NOT)! They fixed a scar for me too, which involved taking quite a big chunk out of my side so a bit sore now.

Still a bit drug-addled, just popped on to ask if anyone knows what a coin charlie is? Something at DD's school tomorrow.
