G, we are growing out tomatoes in pots this year because the earwigs keep eating them when they are in the ground. If you're not game to set up permanent beds just yet, just grow a few things in pots and get a feel for it first before making the commitment to a full-on vege patch.

Arte, that is great news about W making friends. maybe all he needed was for you to not be there kwim? Often we're their security blanket when it comes to social settings.

Well the fight with my sister continues LOL. I blocked her on FB just so she can't keep sending me childish messages, and now she's realised I've done it, she's calling ME immature for doing it! This was via txt LOL. So I'm just ignoring her messages on there too.

All is well here. The hay baling contract is finally done so we will still get paid for it which is a relief! We might be able to get the boys their bunk bed now. Oh and we've finally ditched the dummy too! I worked on a 'don't offer, don't refuse' plan and it worked! he only got it if he asked for it, but he hasn't asked for it the past few days so he hasn't had it. Not that he needed it anyway, it was purely for comfort if he was a bit sooky.

MD, I really hope your DH is alright - that must be a worry! And bummer about the wedding ring, I hope there is some way to fix it.

Trill, bummer about your sister. Hopefully she will get the message and stop texting. Can you block people on phones?

Cally, that happens with groups around here too. A new playgroup has started and I am supporting it, but there were only two of us there today.

Actually Trill the cake was cr*p. I had a piece of almond & apricot cake - which sounds nummo, but failed to deliver a perfect cakey texture. Apparently he needs his finger xrayed too, although I am of the opinion that if he'd taken the ring off in the first instance it wouldn't have swollen up that big :lol:. Where was the first aider at work when he needed them??? Am trying not to freak out about the pituitary thing, but am all too aware that these sorts of things are treated with brain surgery.

Cally, he was rabbiting on about getting the ring fixed and resized ASAP...I said nothing but thought quietly to myself "not for a couple of months you won't". Dressups at this age are easy, just raid the dress up box. I bet there are a million halloween fairies and princesses there on Fri LOL. That wee on the carpet before bedtime sounds like a scene at our house.

Trill, I'm so glad the hay baling all got done and paid for. :) Gosh your sis sounds OTT! I think ignoring sounds like the best strategy for now. My Dad told me he puts fly wire at the bottom of his pots before he puts the soil in, it stops the earwigs etc getting into the pots. Too late for me this year, my toms are already potted. But I've got those self watering pots so maybe the water well in the bottom will keep them out.

ETA - ladies, looks like I'm about to find out more about endocrinology & neurosurgery than I ever wanted to know :(. Fortunately if the tiny little something is a something, then at least it's tiny. That's good.

I'm not sure if I told you but Missy E is coping much better now that the CC disaster is far behind us. She's still a bit clingy some mornings but it's a fraction of what it was before. She's going to bed much happier than she was too.

BTW - has anyone else seen all the halloween crap in the shops. My local had plastic pumpkins FFS! What is going on?! OK, so it's fun when your kid decides they want a halloween party for their birthday (cos you can stockpile for when the party rolls round) but seriously, who is buying all that stuff?! We don't even get trick or treaters in our street. Although I admit to buying a sharepack of chocolate bars every year, just in case :lol:

I guess that is a good thing about have a crap 'super'market - they barely have the essentials so they don't bother with things like halloween. Although they do have the xmas gear out already.

MD, is that no exams for your entire course??? I have just realised that 5 short answer questions at one page each means I have to write 5 pages! Don't they know this is the computer age? I don't know if I have written 5 pages total in the last 10 years lol. I am going to get RSI or carpel tunnel or something!

W stayed the full session at kindy by himself today. I got to take A to music and the park and actually got some decent one-on-one time with her which she doesn't get much. And then he tried sushi for tea - and he liked it!

**** MD- When is that roller coaster going to end??? I hope it is a small straight forward tumor that is easily removed. :hug: They can fix jewelry so it looks like it never broke. My wedding band was my great grandmas and was broken when i got it, you couldn't tell now. :)

good news for us is that we are on holiday! currently in canberra hanging out with friends, and tomorrow to wollongong to sit by the beach and eat fish and chips and paddle in the ocean, and then maybe relax on the verandah watching the dolphins go by...it's tough LOL!

Yay for holidays Cass, I hope this gives your immune system a big boost so your bbs get better asap. Remember they like sunshine and fresh air (is there a nude beach in Woll? :rofl:) I also found that using cloth breast pads and changing them a zillion times a day was better than the sposies.

Re Halloween. In the Catholic calendar, Nov 1st is the feast day for all the saints (ie people who have died who are known to have "definitely" gone to heaven) and Nov 2nd is the day you pray for the souls of everyone else who has died. So lots of remembering dead people on Nov 1 & 2. All Hallows (meaning all saints) is the old name, and Hallow e'en means the Evening of. It's considered to be a time when the veil between the worlds is thinnest, so the dead can make contact with the living, but whether that's a pagan concept or a kinda superstitious oldy fashioned christian one I don't know. Pagans also celebrate to honour the dead at this time.

But as usual, someone realised that there was a dollar to be made and completely commercialised it, making it the farce it is today. LOL. I hate Halloween with a passion and I refuse to entertain any idea of us celebrating it. It's not 'ours' kwim?

I'd take the exam over assignment too. I love exams. The adrenalin, the fact that's it's all over in a couple of hours. That combined with the fact i used ot have a cracking memory which made exams easy. :p Maybe i'd feel differently these days!

MD- i knew you'd know about Halloween. :lol: We always lived out of town as kids, so no trick or treating. Never really got into HAlloween, or Valentines day for that matter. I'm just a big ol' party pooper.

I pick exams over assignments as well. I am good under pressure and they are much less work than assignments. My special talent in life was that I have always been "exam lucky" - I seem to 'know' what topics will and won't be covered in exams so I can study less. Coasted though a whole degree on my system lol. No advantage this time though because they have given us so many hints as to what is in the exam that they may as well have just handed out the actual test. Loving the social sciences!

DH has gone away until Sunday night. I should have been doing some study but instead I watched Grown-ups. It was reasonably amusing, a bit slapstick in places but a few good gags.

Ginger, W took a pic with my phone of me from behind and OMG I need to do something about my weight. It is appalling! I can't believe how big my arse is! I am thinking of printing the pic and hanging near the biscuit tin as a reminder.

Cass, hope you had a good swim at the beach. We went to the river the other day for the first time of the season and it was lovely.

Poor A is cutting her third tooth - it looks as though someone has hacked at her gum with a blunt file!

weight loss ticker is gone! i definitely still need to lose a few, but i'm happy to stay where i am for the time being and slowly chip away at it over summer.
i'm actually squeezing myself into a size 12 dress to wear to a wedding tomorrow, and i really do mean 'squeeze'- i'm wearing a super tight size 14 gut busting suit and the zip is so friggen tight that dh has to do it up and i cannot breathe or drink or sing or laugh or do anything or it will pop open on me

jm- yes we are eating out, if you count mcmuffins as eating out LOL i'll have to do lots of walking while you're here!

glad i'm not the only one that likes exams. i love the way you can't procrastinate with them either. you just turn up and spill what you know! i think their bad name is undeserved. assignments, on the other hand, suck!

I was just thinking of getting some gut busting garments - my belly is looking suspiciously pregnant and I am sure it is only a matter of time before someone asks when I am due lol - that will be awkward for everyone.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. I am seriously looking forward to DH coming home tomorrow night. I hate doing bedtime with both of them, it is such hard work.

What else can I ramble about.... hmmm.... I think it is safe to say W is night time TT now. He begged for undies a few weeks ago and the first week was a bit of a disaster but he has only had one accident in the past couple of weeks so he is doing pretty well. I have probably jinxed it now and fully expect an accident tonight.

W and A are playing together now and it is adorable! You see W running past with a toy and then A is wobbling after him with another laughing her head off. She just loves him, it is the cutest thing to see.

Again I should be studying but I am not. Exam is on Friday but DH is taking Wednesday and Thursday off work so I can study (since he went away this weekend). It works out better for me anyway because during the week I can go to the library for the entire day but if I tried to study at home over the weekend I know I would only end up doing a few hours with a million interruptions.

Now as we drive along W points out the window and says things like "Mum, do you like those beautiful Rhododendrons?" lol - DH will be pleased.

Anyways, enough dribbling from me. Off to check FB and procrastinate some more.

My main problem with exams is that, having spewed forth the entire contents of my memory, five minutes later I can no longer remember any of it. Not a very useful learning tool IMO. Totally agree weekends are a terrible time to study. I believe the recreation gives your brain a boost anyway. Good luck with it Arte.

Sorry but I just don't believe in gutsucking undergarments...it's gotta squeeze it all somewhere. I reckon even if I got a whole-body model I would just end up with some really fat sausages at my neck, wrists and ankles. Not a good look. Either that or it will all get squeezed inwards and I'll develop a bumhole prolapse :rofl:. I'm seriously battling the pregnant tum thing, I'm getting the menopausal spare tyre in a big way, for the first time in my life my stomach protrudes out way further than my size 18D boobs (now that's sayin something) :lol:. But there are worse things in life than being fat.

Ginger, I hope your gutbusters stayed in place throughout the wedding (I had visions of you going "SPROING") and that you managed to dissolve some sustenance under your tongue without needing to swallow anything LOL. A mcmuffin and a walk sounds like an excellent plan, only wish I could join you.

Arte, I can't believe W has conquered the rhododendron concept!!! I talked about them ceaselessly when we were there (it was this time of year and the bright pink tree ones were in full swing) and DH *still* has no idea what rhododendron means. Well done with the nighttime TTing. We had a breakthrough today at the shops when Missy E declared she wanted to go to the toilet halfway down aisle 9 so I think we're on our way too. BTW is your local library any good, do they get stuff in for you via Te Puna when you want it? Or can you get material sent out by your uni's library?

Well I got the results for the quiz tonight and a bit bummed I only got 64% which is only a Pass. It made it harder that you had to get the entire question correct to get the points, otherwise you got nothing at all. So there were a few questions where had the rules been different I would have got a higher mark because there were slight mistakes but some of the answer was still right. Anyway, I hope it doesn't pull my average down too much.

Arte, that's great he is night trained now. It makes such a difference doesn't it? I hope the study day pans out the way you want it to and you ace the test.

MD, I much prefer research assignments. I don't mind wearing the suck me in pants LOL, but not so that they are too tight, just so that they stop the jiggly bits from jiggling ;) Don't you just love it when you are in the middle of the supermarket and they have to go to the loo?

Bummer about the quiz Trill, those rules sound a bit harsh. What percentage is it worth? The word quiz sounds like a small % compared to test assignment or exam??? Maybe?

We're a long way off night TT. She was a full, full nappy every morning. On the upside Sas goes without a nappy at home now. Not when we are out as there isn't much time between her saying and her going!

Trill, bummer about the mark...agree that's a tricky marking system. Being a quiz though it should be a smaller percentage of your final mark? Our shop isn't too bad, there's a fantastic (clean) parent's room just outside the supermarket so it's pretty easy to leave your trolley & hoof out when you need to in a hurry. Which was handy when I was having my chemo-incontinence episodes :redface:.

AFM: well we are having an awesome time! have been looking out for whales but no luck (there was a whale festval yesterday and all). but lots of dolphins and lots of beach and lots of surf! having heaps of fun fun fun! marta has been sleeping and smiling the whole time and leila cannot believe that there can be so much water around lol. altough she was horrified that the salt stings her cuts lol.

The quiz was worth 20% of the overall mark. The first two assignments (an individual and then a group response) are worth 60% and I already got a D for the individual and I'm pretty sure we will get at least that with the group one. The second assignment was a lesson plan and it was worth 20% too and I am pretty confident that I will get a good mark for that too. I'm not feeling as bummed today about it - whatever will be will be and all that. I think it was more the fact that we were allowed two goes and could copy the questions so we had a week to revise and study and I still didn't get a brilliant mark.

Oooohhhh JM! Chocolates and a motel room. I did that too when I went to Canberra - brought some yummy chocolates and ate them while sitting on the bed watching TV. So does that mean you are on your way here or here already?

Cass, A hates the beach, I think it is because the sand moves under his feet when he's in the water.

MD, I have gotten in the habit of asking him if he needs to go before we go in, but if we do get caught out, at least I can do the same and leave the trolley near the checkouts, and then go outside - best bit about having a boy is that I can just find the nearest tree LOL otherwise the nearest toilets to the supermarket are across the road in the the park.

Trill, by D I am assuming distinction and not a fail D? You should be alright then. I agree about the boys being handy when it comes to emergency toilet stops. I am not sure what happens with girls - the girl bits aren't as user friendly for roadside peeing.

MD, are rhododendron's not around over there? I thought they were a universal type plant? So far he can name the rhodies, Magnolias and Kowhai trees, which is about the limit of my knowledge on the topic anyway. I am wondering if a sudden interest in gardening is a red flag for the approach of middle age?
I have never heard of Te Puna but I wouldn't expect anything from our local library. It is mainly a wireless hotspot for tourists with laptops and then there are about 10 shelves of outdated books. I have a sci-fi/fantasy collection bigger than the libraries lol. My uni is very good though, about 1/3 of the students are extramural and they are very fast if you request an article. There is also a massive online database of a bazillion journals etc from the mid 70's forward.
And I actually laughed out loud about the bumhole prolapse!

We somehow got into the habit when E was little to call it a mare-mare and I have no idea why it was called that, but when she got a bit older it was vagina. I sorta agree that it's a bit technical but other than 'vuh-jay-jay' as favoured by Oprah :rofl: there isn't really much else you can call it LOL

I get what you mean Arte. When I was little - 7-8 yrs old, mum was always one to use proper names for body parts BUT she had to start encouraging me to use 'mary' because some of the other mums thought I was too 'forward' and I had apparently corrected one girl at school when she called it a mary and I must have told her no, it's a vagina :rofl: I don't remember it but Mum told me I did it and I guess she got a phone call from the other Mum and then word got around that I was a 'forward' child LOL, just because I knew what the bloody thing was called. I thought it hilarious years later though when we are all nearly finished high school and I was the only girl who hadn't started using hers yet ;) I felt like saying to their mums 'so who's forward now?' :lol:

Oh and I got the expected D result for our group task, so I'm feeling a lot better about my overall grade now.

My problem with using the word vagina is - it's technically not the correct word for most DD-related usage...you're usually referring to their vulva. But teaching vulva is just way OTT. Until they get a bit older. I'm saving up choice morsels for the no-details spared birds and bees 303 session DD1's gonna get sometime over the next year or so :lol:.

Arte - we have rhododendrons but they are mostly small shrubby things, the big ones only grow in cool moist areas. And NO WAY are you approaching middle age. I believe I am the oldest person in this thread... and despite my menopausal-threat I am no where near middle age...AND I've loved gardening all along. So there.

Arte, we get given a numeric score, but our grades are all letters. P is 50 - 64%, Credit 65 - 74%, Distinction is 75-84% and High Distinction is 85-100%. I always thought it odd though that the HD range is so big, you'd think it would only be the top 10%.

LOL MD, true about vulva. There is plenty of time to 'go there' I reckon so vagina will suffice for now. And Mum had the same conversation with a parent about my sister when she was a similar age. Only this time it was 'lesbian' and she'd called one of her friend's Mum a lesbian because she had a friend she was uber close to and she'd overhead Mum joke that they must be lesbians. The funniest thing about that was the Mum actually said something about it to my sister and said 'Do you even know what a lesbian is?" and my sister told her exactly what it was :rofl: I did think that was probably a bit OTT, but these days kids kinda need to know all this stuff because they are exposed to it more than what our generation ever was as kids. I just tell them not to tell anyone else because their parents might not want them to know yet. Fingers crossed that works for a while LOL. Otherwise I'LL be the one getting phone calls.
