It's taken about 3 weeks of us getting up, going to her room, opening the door and saying "you can get out of bed and open the door yourself" and then closing the door again LOL. I think she lies in bed a bit before she starts shouting anyway, she likes being in bed. Gotta love that!
DD has already got a cabin-style bed (probably about 5 foot) hence the functional storage space. I would like to use the situation to demonstrate to DD that she can't keep all her "stuff" AND have extra space magically in the room...something's gotta give, she needs to get rid of some of her junk!
Can you impart some of Oprah's decluttering wisdom onto her? LOL. It will get to that point with my girls too that they just can't keep all their stuff as they get older. But I think my girls take after DH's mother and are genetically predisposed to hoarding The boys on the other hand are much easier - despite all that they have - there just never seems to be as much clutter in their room. Once we get the bunks we are getting a cheap desk and hutch for L to have in there as we will still have room for that and their toy box.
Trill, TBH I absolutey *dread* going there with her, I do it a couple of times a year and it's basically a day (and then usually some) of histrionics. Sometimes I just go in there and drag some stuff out myself when she's not here, which isn't ideal because she doesn't learn to do it herself then. I think you might be right - there's an inherent girl-ness to the problem - people tend to give girls things with lots fiddly bits whereas boys tend to get large chunky robust items. Even so, I don't think I will have the same problem with Missy E because she likes tidiness and often puts things away of her own accord. Whereas DD1 will swear that she has cleaned up her room and you go in there and there's still stuff all over the place! LOL
She sounds an awful lot like my girls LOL. When I was a kid, I could get my room into a terrible state, but I would clean it if I was asked, or if it got to the stage where it looked more like the local tip but my sister, she is just gross and just would not clean her room - it was hell when we shared a room! Even now she is still not much of a 'cleaner'. I really hope that my girls aren't like that at all and that somehow between now and when they leave home I will have taught them they need to clean up after themselves. How much is she using any of her things at any one time? Maybe you could set up a 'use all the time' box, 'not used for 6 months' box and a 'not used for 12 months' box and it might be easier for her to see why she doesn't need to keep something that she doesn't use.
We were just today planning a loft bed for W. His bed atm doesn't have anything under it (base very close to the ground) so I think we will make more room.
MD, I am doing a summer school paper. My course isn't a set course, I just need to do 8 papers, 4 at 3rd year level in major topic. So I am just doing a filler pharmacology paper because there wasn't much choice for summer school.
Both of my kids sleep dead still. They are always in the same position when they wake up.
I forgot about that question MD LOL. In 'their' wisdom, it was decided that anyone who started the Bach Ed from 2010 onwards would also have to prove their Band 4 proficiency in English and Maths. If you can't, then you wont be able to teach. So what I'm doing is the Teacher Education Enabling Course which is the two math and english subjects I need to prove my Band 4. The subjects can be done during the regular semester anytime during the next 2 years as a single subject on top of the degree itself, but it was going to be much easier for me to do it over Summer and get it done and out of the way. Plus if I do it now as a course itself it is free, but if I do it as a single subject then I have to pay for each subject. But I don't think I'll do a summer semester again because it is crammed into 8 weeks instead of 13 so it's really full on. There are loads of people doing this degree too that want a trimester system to get it done quicker, but I reckon you'd burn out if you had no decent break in between.
Ok, all makes sense now. I've never had any desire to do a summer semester, but all other things in your life being an even keel, I can imagine the attraction to get it finished sooner. Esp if you're living in next to no income and can't do anything or go anywhere during the breaks cos you're too poor
