Well it's been 2 weeks since i had Lily and after the first week my blood loss has become very small. Twice, i've gone a day without any bleeding at all. Had anyone else have this happen to them? Also, 6 days after the birth, i passed a huge blood clot(about the size of half an apple) and a slightly smaller one straight after. Spent 12 hours in the emergency ward, had an ultrasound as they expected i had parts of my placenta left in my uterus. Small to medium amounts of "material" were found. Didn't actually say it was placenta, could also have been a build up of blood. Was sent home without having a D&C. Was put on antibiotics to stop any infections. Do you think this could be the reason that my blood loss has basically stopped now? Maybe the blood just got built up and came out in one hit? I'm a bit confused at the moment about it, so any advice, info, etc would be a great help!
I bled constantly for 11wks Tegan, I also passed a huge clot a few hours after birth and smaller ones in the couple of days after that. Out of that 11wks there was only a few days I didn't bleed. I was put on antibiotics as well and the bleeding also stopped, if it hadn't I would have had a D&C actually had all the paper work signed and sent in, in case of. Never bled again till 4wks later when AF returned.
Tegan, you had a normal delivery hey? I bleed for the usual 6 to 8 weeks after all my births but only for the first week or so was it truly like a period. 2 weeks after I had Brandon (my 2nd) I heamorraged and was raced into hospital where they performed and emergancy D and C if there is such a thing. Basically as soon as they stablised me, I had drips sticking out of me and Dr's hands in me trying to remove clots (sorry tmi, the size of dinner plates and stop the bleeding I was taken into surgery. I too was put on antibotics but I don't think that it stopped me from bleeding any sooner. After Noah (who was a c section) I only bleed quite lightly, I think thats because they suck alot of the extra blood out when they have you open.
I'm sure it is normal to have days when it very light, or to the point of nothing, I guess it's just like your period in some ways.
Hi, they say you bleed for around 4-6 weeks after giving birth, but everyone is different. I only bled for a little under two weeks then it stopped completely and I didnt get another period until I stopped breastfeeeding.
Hi Tegan, my blood loss slowed down a lot by 2 weeks as well, then I bled lightly for about a week, then nothing for a week and then I started bleeding heavily again at about 5-6 weeks and that lasted one week. I think that that was probably AF, seeing as I stopped breastfeeding on day 4. Now I am back on the pill so AF will be nice and regular...
For any of those who have had cesareans, how long did you bleed? It's only 8 days after Zander was born, but my bleeding is still bright red & there is a lot of it, no major clots in it though. The midwives said that if I lose any big clots or am worried about it to see my GP. I'm thinking of seeing him on Thursday (he doesn't work Wednesdays) as my last BT said my iron levels are low & the bleeding can't help that for sure...
I had minimal bleeding until about 10 days after my caesar, then heavy bleeding (thought I was haemoraging) and phoned the hospital where I had delivered my baby. They said if the bleeding continued to be heavy/gushing and particularly if painful, to come into casualty. It settled down that night and I didn't go into casualty and its now minimal again but I am seeing my ob to check with him that everything is ok.
I haven't really been given advice re what not to do while recovering from a caesar (other than not to drive), and wondered if managing my toddler (I try to avoid lifting him if I can) would cause any physical problems?
I would say mine is like a normal heavy period I guess, so it's not really gushing IYKWIM.
I wasn't told not to do anything from the hospital other than not to bend up & down hanging the washing out. I know about not driving for 6 weeks & picking up anything heavier than the baby from the girls on here.
I bled for around 6 weeks post caesarean, but the first 2 were the worst and then it became like the last two days of a period for the rest. I used around 3 packs of maternity pads a week for the first two weeks then smaller pads for the rest of the time. I think it depends on what they do while they are in there and how dilated you are before the c/s...my OB suctioned heaps of blood up during the c/s and I had a drain in for 24 hours post to take some of the blood out, but I still bled for ages (or what felt like it)
I bled for around 2 weeks I think maybe a bit less, but I got AF again around a month or so after birth I was soooo peeved LOL I thought I might actually get out of it! LOL!
I bled for quite a while too. I think it was for around 6w. The first couple of weeks were the worst, and it was EXTREMELY heavy in the first week. It remained bright red for quite a long time too, and within the first week it was very clotty, but not any really large clots (i.e. they were smaller than the size of a lemon which apparently is the size at which they begin to get a bit concerned). I remember in the first couple of weeks I'd have these gushes....and it wasn't too good! The first week was the worst though. I rang the hospital to talk to them about it and was reassured that what was going on was totally normal for what I had been through, and I also spoke to the CHN about it, who came to visit me at home.
Thanks guys I was hoping some of the c/s mums could reassure me that everythings ok. I made an appointment with my GP for Monday (which was his first available), but if it calms down I'll cancel it.
