No I`m not back in the saddle yet and will not be for a few weeks yet BUT......
How reliable are condoms as a form of contraception? Neither Mark or I like condoms but I don`t like the pill and really think condoms would be the best alternative for us BUT how reliable are they?
I've never had a good relationship with the pill (made me a little off the planet emotionally) so we've always used condoms. Yes, a pain in the a*se....but we used them for the first three years of our married life (plus before) and never had a problem. One did come off once but that was a fluke! *LOL*
LOL we are a condom family... In that I mean Matilda is most likely a condom baby. BUT we used them since 1998 and I fell PG with Matilda in 2003. We also forgot 2 condoms that month, so she may not be, just timing seems right... BUT then again she was 17 days overdue...
Both DH and I hate them, which is probably why I'm pregnant now as DH gave up using them. We'll be using condoms after Liebling is here too (I want another one asap!). It's actually quite scary now I think on when we first started sleeping together before I went on the Pill and DH did use the withdrawal method a few times - I guess we wouldn't have been joking about eloping in a hurry then!
Thats the method we are using at the moment as Im not a good pill taker my DH literally has to force my multi down my throat before dinner.... so he decided since we were going back for another soon it would be easier, they have a great variety of them and I dont think it takes the fun away, DH doesnt love them but doesnt want me back on the pill either.....think its a PMS thing.....Maybe LMAO.
But we use them and to be honest with you we are only half hearted with them and it seems to work, and lets face it, on the pill it only takes a virus or little hiccup for them to be uneffective and at least a condom you only have to do it a split second before hand I guess.
Not too sure you either happy with them or your not
Condoms are very effective (I believe 97-98%) if used correctly - i.e. put on the right way, used every time, and used with water-based lube only. For me personally, they are not effective because it's so tempting to just take the risk! DH and I used them for about a year when we first got together and they were fine, but after years without them we found it really hard to go back.
We are using them & while we both say we can't wait until we can have sex without them (it just so doesn't feel the same for either of us) it is the easiest form of contraception for us. My DH isn't keen on me being on the pill, he doesn't believe it is good for me to be on long term & as we are hoping to get the all clear soonish (about 10wks) doesn't believe in using another form of contraception for that small period of time.
That said we used them after James's birth & after the two births of our angel boys with no dramas what so ever.
I can't use them as they make me itch down there. I'm not sure what we will do after this baby. Like you Dee - breastfeeding certainly isn't a contraceptive for me!
I think I will investigate the implant or whatever else is around. I'm not happy on a pill, and we aren't getting Shane "fixed" for a few more years. There may be one baby left in me.
ok, well I itch and burn after condoms, but it looks like DH and I will be relying more on them from now on than the pill/minipill. I had an IUD and that stuffed me around too much, Depo was the same.....the only thing we can really do is timing and condoms. Tho we both HATE them and I pay for it for days after. Having said that.....they are not 100%. My older sister uses them religously with her DP. After planning the first one, they used condoms as contraception as they wanted a few years (pref 3-4yrs) between children. Well along comes Mahli, thanks to a hole in the condom or something similar *L*. They love him to bits, but that proves they don't always work....
I itch an burn after condoms but I cant use the pill or ANY other contrception other than condoms now cause I had a blood clot in pregnancy! so it better work for us cause I dont want another bub just yet... I want a good body first! hahahah
