    Contraception Questions...

I had my son 4 weeks ago and when I went to the doctor's the other day, he suggested I get an injection into my arm that lasts 3 years.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and what the possible side effects are?

Also, did you gain weight while on this?

What other forms of contraception would you suggest/reccommend?

Hi Supa star, I had the implanon a few years ago, but ended up getting it out early after 2 years as it wasn't working for me. No side effects as such, although possibly lower libido? but the biggest annoyance was that I would bleed really frequently, and I'd had enough of that.

I had my DD 3 months ago, and am going tomorrow to have the mirena IUD inserted, as this is meant to mean less bleeding.

Goodluck with your decision, its hard with so much out there!

    Hi SupaStar

Like Cathy, I had the Mirena IUS inserted about three months ago (my daughter was a couple of months old at the time). I was after a medium term contraceptive (at least 2-3 years) and this is what my ob recommended. Also, I am bf and this doesn't cross over into the breast milk.

I had a period once after the insertion, then a few days of spotting for the next period and nothing since - bliss! I am so looking forward to not having to worry about AF (or falling pg) for a few years. A GP can remove the Mirena as well, you don't have to go back to an ob/gyn for that.

It was a little uncomfortable when it was put in, but nothing too bad. I haven't noticed a drop in libido or any other side effects, but I didn't have any when I was on the pill either.

Good luck with your decision! (Btw, I believe you should have your hormone levels checked after the Implanon as sometimes they aren't put in when the dr believes they are).

i think impalnon is awesome if its right for you. and i really think everyone should try this first before other controceptions.

its affordable. i perscription, and it lasts for 3 years.

i just got mine taken out but had them in for 4 yrs. NO BLEEDING. i spotted a little to start with. but then nothing.
