It could be the depo, your body still adjusting to it. Or it could be something else. When I was on the depo I had no period the whole time. If you're worried I'd suggest seeing a doctor.
Sorry, not much help hey.
i had this shot in december and a week or so ago i got a little bit of bleeding (first since birth 5 months ago) but it is really really light. it barley covers the top of a tampon and only like a 20 cent piece size on a pad (mainly in the morning). does this sound normal? i heard that your period can be really heavy with the depo shot so i am wondering if this bleeding is related to it or not? also is has lasted like a week and a half, my normal periods (before baby) lasted like 4 days or so. whats up with this?

I had the depo shot years ago and bled non stop for 8wks (quite heavily too). I found out that I was pg during that time too. The bubba didn't stick due to the bleeding. Any abnormal bleeding should be checked out. I put it off till I'd been bleeding 6wks,don't make my mistake. Please get it checked if it is worrying you.
hi there, i am new to this forum. i have had one shot of depo back in sep 06. my husband and i decided we wanted to start TTC so i didnt get my 2nd one which was due dec 06. i have read alot of stuff on the internet regarding the side affects of depo (ie some women bleed constant) but i havent bleed at all....as i read on average it going to takes 9 to 10 months for my AF to return but then i read somewhere else that if you miss 3 AF's then you should be seeing your doctor.. i am getting a tad confused/worried lol ...... i am booked to see my doctor this coming thursday.... its true that if you're not bleeding you're not ovulating right? can anyone shed some light on this?? has anyone been in a similar situation... any advice would be appreciated.... one part of me is telling me just wait it out until my AF comes naturally another side is saying is to try natural alternatives.... im confused lol![]()
sasha, I believe that if you have no period, than you're not ovulating, however I could be mistaken.
Also, as you've only had the one shot of depo, than you've got a greater chance than those who've been on it for a number of years, as it's in their system for longer.
Good luck with your dr app this week.
Hi Hollo,
I was Depo Provera about 2 years ago, i had 2 injections (so 6 months total being on it) once i decided to not be on it anymore, it took another 6 months to get a proper period, and to get my normal cycle back!
Whilst i was on the injection i had breakthrough bleeding everyday for about a month straight, once the injection stopped (after 3 months) i wasn't using ANY contraception (we were ttc anyway) and so i think in total, it took me about 1.5 years to get pregnant and about 6 months after depo provera to get my normal cycle back...
I always thought if you don't get your period then you're not ovulating, but i'm not 100% sure
I'm probably not much help - but anyone thinking of going on Depo Provera... I wouldn't really recommend it.
hi i was on depo provera for about five years had no syptoms then me and partner decided to have a baby it took us a yaer and half to fall pregnant .anyway after i had my baby i decided to go back on it and when i did i didnt stop bleeding for the whole month and now my periods havent come back probably and that was five months ago im the same i wouldnt recommed to anyone it stiffed up my menstrual cycle altogether
The depo shot also makes you put on weight... I learnt the hard way. I was on it for 9 months and every month for 2 weeks I would be spotting constantly. After I stopped I went on the pill straight away was on the pill for 3 months then stopped and fell pregnant within 2 weeks.

i agree with jesabell and keira_25 I would not recommend this drug to anyone! I am so kicking myself for not doing my research on it before i had the injection... if i had known it was going to screw with my cycle this much i wouldnt have got it in the first place. i had consistent regular cycles beforehand no menstrual pain, 3-4 days at the very max, all was good now im kinda dreading what i will have to go through when my cycle does come back.... some women have had it tough and i really sympathise with them.... Jodi, i will let you know how i go at the dr's....
I was on Depo for 6 months when i was 17/8. I bled continuously from 2 weeks after the 1st shot until about 5 months after the 2nd shot (so, 2 months after i missed the 3rd one i was due). It took about 9 months from the last shot for my cycles to become regular and the spotting mid-cycle to stop. In addition i had gained weight and had no sex-drive. The weight came off with effort about 6 months after the last shot and the sex drive recovered much quicker (though i was still bleeding all the time! grr).
It totally screwed my body up, BUT i do know a few people who've gotten PG right away or who's cycles were back to normal within 6 months of their last shot (3 months of "coming off" it). Good luck at the Doc's Sasha. My useless GP at the time said "you just need to wait until it's out of your system, come back if things are the same in a year."
Also, i think if you don't menstruate you didn't ovulate, but is there any chance you could be PG already? O drives AF so if you did O and fell that cycle you'd never have gotten AF anyway.

hoobley, i havent bleed at all (not even spotting) since i got the shot (one time only) in september of last year.... it just seems so un-naturalis almost getting me down now... i dont feel "normal" lol Maybe a test is a good idea.. end of last month i did a test as i had all the signs (sore boobs, nausea etc) but was BFN so i just put it down to the depo wearing off... gee i hope it is outta my system soon....
.... guess i have to wait until i see my Dr in the morning and go from there.... i am sure he will order more blood tests to be done... can they check whether you are O'ing or not through blood tests??? I am hearing ya re: the lack of sex drive.... omg its terrible huh!
The girls who are ltttc know more but yes, i know they can check for ovulation with blood tests - it could be that you're PG and it was too early to test last month so maybe test again?
I know it's rubbish but try not to worry - all of my rotten side-effects (bleeding, weightgain, no libido) went away after a few months - it DOES all go back to normal, it can just take a little while. I ALWAYS bleed in response to hormonal contracpetion, even the BCP, so that's just my body's weirdness.
good luck at the docs. Let us know how you're going.

hey everyone, well had my dr's appointment today. gotta have bloods done., he's testing LH levels, progesterone, testosterone and few other things. Figured i might as well go and get them done tomorrow morning.... bummer though, my doc is going on holidays for two weeksso have to wait until he is back to find out the results ... next appointment booked for 10th july .... he told me there was still a chance i could fall pregnant even though i havent been bleeding if DH and I had timed it right and there could be a chance that that is why i havent started bleeding... so there's hope for me yet haha .... i told them to put a PG test on the lab slip aswell just to check, im pretty sure im not but who knows might get a surprise
..... ill keep ya all posted

Hope it goes well for you Sasha. I had my first shot same time as you and then had another in the Dec. I didn't have AF at all the whole time, but i had constant old blood leaking. Not much just annoying.
I've had 3 AFs since but like the others said my regular 21 day cycles are no more. I did do the research and at the time it was the best option for me. I won't be doing it again though.
hey girls went i went and had bloods done today.... 2 week wait now as my doc is going on holidays.... 10th july is my next appointment... am eagerly waiting to see what the heck is going on with my body... dr is testing hormone levels so it shall be interesting... will post again once i know![]()
thats what happened to me when i went to see the doctor about my irreggular or sometimes no period he checked my hormones and di a ultrasound and everthing came back fine ive got to go and get my blood tested again but then hes going to send me to an gyno
same with me jesabell, my dr said to wait until we have the results from the bloods and if my levels were low the next step would be to have an ultrasound done... i am hoping things will be "normal" and i wont have to go down that road.... i have been reading alot about that vitex supplement and am seriously thinking about taking it myself but am going to wait until i have seen my dr and got the results of the blood tests and go from there... i also rejoined medibank private yesterday so because of the 12 month waiting period sorta now have to wait out falling PG for a few months
.... Lol
whats the vitex supplement
