Question Does anyone else have/had a diastisis?

About 3 weeks ago I had a postnatal physio class, and the physio checked and found that i have a diastisis, about 1 finger width.

I have been working on my core muscles, and avoiding exercises that might pull it apart further. Mine hasn't seemed to get any smaller yet. She said it can take weeks, months or years to go away, and sometimes it never does.

If you've had a diastisis, how long did it take before it came back together? Or do they never go back together completely? When do you think I'll be able to notice it getting smaller?

Separation of stomach muscles? I never had it happen with my pgs, which surprised the heck out of me considering the size of my last baby. My best friend had it happen quite badly and she had to wear a brace/girdle thing for a few months afterwards. I'm not sure if they ever went back 100% though, never heard her say anymore about it. I know there have been a few others on here that have had it.

Yeah, I got one. It was huge at first, about 3 - 4 finger widths. It is closed now, and I havent exactly made any effort to work on it so I guess it can just fix itself on its own. I cant remember when it went back together, but it did take at least 6 months. But as I said, I did no special exercises to help it along, so maybe if youre doing appropriate exercises it would be quicker.

Hey Leash - just found this thread. I have a 6 cm gap hun The physio told me that 1-2 cms is pretty normal and once you have recovered it is important to do gentle exercises to the core muscles to repair it. I have a tube thing that I should wear more often to help my muscles and to support my back which is overcompensating for the fact that I basically has no tummy muscles that work. If they are still separated, make sure you don't use your tummy when sitting up out of bed etc. roll onto your side and push yourself up. Once I get to 6 weeks Im going back for a check up and will see where we go from here because it is so severe. Hope it heals fast for you.
