    Question Errr... prunes anyone??

I have been diagnosed with that pelvis problem (which is upsetting my lower back and sciatic nerve) so am on panadeine forte for pain (without it I can't walk).

I just went to the toilet and it felt like I was trying to move glass (cos of the codeine). Now it feels like I've ripped myself a new one...

Anyone know how many prunes you need to eat to loosen things up?? I don't want to make things worse (there was a bit of blood - ouch!!)

Sounds liek a fissure...plenty of threads on here...im a victom of them!

My advice (and safe if BF'ing even Alan has backed up this fact in many posts) is Coloxyl with Senna from the chemist!

Safe in pregnancy too. I lived on it from 4 weeks post birth with Jasmine until Jas was about 4 months old!!

Mel - can I recommend Normacol - it's fibre combined with a natural laxative and it was a godsend for me after birth of DD.

Mel, drink pear juice. The physio told me after my births that it is the best laxative for bfing women as it doesn't rely on water intake to work as most other do. Even if you're not bfing it would still be very effective.

I'd start with a good handful of them. Wait and see how fast they travel, maybe take another handful tomorrow, depending on how regular you normally are.

You can also get some fruit paste stuff from chemist to get things going, that's what I normally go for when iron supplements back me up and I feel like I am going to crap myself a new one, happens a lot sadly.
I find fruit based stuff works for me better than anything else you can get to move things along.

I have discoverd the ultimate "bowl-mover" EVER ... well for me anyway

PRUNE JUICE! It tastes like cr@p, but I just add a little apple juice and some Sprite Zero and if you pinch your nose and imagine it's chocolate milkshake .... Bob's your Uncle. I take about half a glass per day in the morning and then with my slow metabolisim, I'm cleared out in two days.

But you can also try dried fruit roll .. and dried apricots works well also.

I agree with Laura - Fruit is our friend

Ouch Mel...I know exactly what you are talking about. suffered incredibly with a fissure after DS was born.

    My poo foods are:

    * prune juice. Fantastic, I had a glass every night before bed.

    * Prunse and dried apricots. Would just snack on a handful as the day went on.

    * coloxyl with senna rocks>

    * Movicol <from the chemist< it is drink you mix up and have once a day< or eight times a day if things are really bad and backed up

    * nulax< but i can"t remember what MotherSafe said about it, they were pretty happy with most laxatives, but you might need to check.

And if it is still tender etc< get yourself some rectogesic> Causes a headache when you first use it, but it relaxes things and stops it from re-tearing while your sort out your poo probs.

Sorry if I have carried on a bit...have a long history of these kinda problems. And sorry about all the arrows and stuff through my post...my keyboard has gone nuts!?!

    Best of luck with it!
