With both of boys I had high blood pressure. I was induced with DS1 due to it spiking but didn't take any medication either during or after. With DS2 I took Aldomet from mid way through and again it spiked at 40 weeks and was booked for an induction. DS2 decided that was going to be the day anyway & I went into labour in the early hours of the morning. Sorry getting of the point. DS2 is 18 months & I am still taking Aldomet. If you are breast feeding there is no other bp medication you can take without risks for bubba. In my case both my parents & my sister suffer high blood pressure and all take medication. My sister since she had her first child at 16 and she turns 38 this year. I refuse to go onto the hardcore medication & am losing weight (my family are all obese) getting fitter (personal trainer) in a push that when I finish breast feeding my bp will be at a level they won't need to give me the hardcore drugs. My understanding is that once you are on them it is very difficult to come off them.

I am a huge stresser & worrier which doesn't help anything either. On top of that I hate having bp checked so it rises anyway. Sorry I have not helped with how long but know I am in the same boat as I would think are a few & fighting just as hard. Huge hugs xx
