my last baby was 14 months ago but it doesnt matter how much i try i cant get rid off my muffin top it looks horrible especially in jeans it looks worse just wondering has any one got any exercises that works wonders
I think you need to do those excercises for your obliques (sp??) the muscles on the sides of your tummy muscles. You can do sit ups, then cross your elbow to the opposite knee (KWIM?). That is the only thing I know! I have also tried different things, and I can't do sit ups due to a back injury, so I try to do more yoga and swimming.
I say, embrace the muffin top...learn to love it! This is much easier!
Your muffin top could be one of three things, or a combination of them. Firstly, additional fat around your middle. Secondly, extra skin from pregnancy. Thirdly, poor abdominal muscle tone. You can't really do much about extra skin sadly, but you can work on the fat and muscle tone. To reduce fat deposits, you need to do general cardiovascular work - like riding a bike, running etc 3-5 times a week for at least 30 mins. And of course eat sensibly. Doing some abdominal exercises will increase muscle tone, but won't remove localised fat. To work on your abs, you've got three muscle groups to exercise - the rectus (sit ups/crunches), obliques (sit ups/crunches with a turn to each side) and deep transversus (abdominal bracing - needs to be taught to you by someone who knows what they are doing.
If you can find an activity that combines cardiovascular work with abdominal work and is fun, you'll be sorted! Alternatively, buy different jeans and don't stress about the muffin, just don't expose it.
I had a horror muffin top even though I lost weight and could fit back into my old jeans, so I went shopping and now no more muffin top The cuts this season are a bit more flattering for mummy tummies too I reccon.
Pilates based excersises are great for toning your tummy so try doing some of them
Hehe muffin tops.. havent heard that one. I still have mine, but a friend of mine knows a diet that aims at certain areas of your body.. hmm dont know what its called though.. sorry lol.. will ask her next time i see her!
The high waisted jeans will tuck in the mummy tummy, but they will make your bum look like it's two feet long, and flat. I'd say avoid them. (Check out "What Not to Wear" with Trinny and Susanna - saw them on Oprah. Wow.)
With the others, I'd recommend some excercise with tummy toning - aerobics with knee lifts and kicks, sit-ups and cross over sit-ups, etc. Also, avoid high-gluten bread. That's the really nice, soft, fluffy bread. Try whole grain, and especially rye instead. Much better for reducing tummy fat. Drink water like crazy. (well OK, not truly like crazy, but get your 8 cups in, if you can manage it. I lost 5 lb in 2 weeks that way, and then fell pregnant. )
Maybe buy some loose fitting tops that skim your body and hide the less flattering parts. They can be very nice and slimming, without looking saggy and baggy, or shapeless. Your pre-baby belly might be lost for good, but you can most likely improve it, and learn to dress in a new, flattering way. Head to the shops, and try some styles that you've never tried before! Maybe go at a quiet time of day, so that the sales ladies can give you good attention. Sometimes they have some great suggestions. And if there are some special pre-baby clothes that you really would love to wear again, maybe get one of those full body control top things. They are wonderful for smoothing everything out, especially for special occasions and formal wear.
Of course, by the time you've battled your way back to the closest you can be to your "pre-baby" self, you'll be pregnant again. It's happened to me twice now. But on the positive side, I've started each pregnancy weighing less than the one before.
All the best!
