I didn't have any side effects with the Implanon. I love it and am one of the lucky ones who doesn't have any side effects, nor do I have regular bleeding.
However, my aunt (aged 37) put on 10 kgs in 10 months, my younger sister had to have hers out because of continual bleeding, and another friend had her period two weeks out of three, so she had hers out too.
I guess it depends on your body's own reaction, which is different for each person. My sister had no bleeding for the first 12 months and then started bleeding, which is unusual.
I had no bleeding the whole time I had it in but I put on weight. A couple of my friends have had headaches and weight gain but it seems to vary from person to person.
It took about a month before I got any real symptoms from the rod.
I got a period about every three months, but I did put on weight. I had it in for two years so I should have done something about it... but I loved having it in.
I've had it in for about 4 or 5 months now and I've no symptoms at all either. I did have some a regular period for say 3 months but now nothing? So far its been excellent for me!
I just thought I would add to this, having had 2 Implanon rods now for 5 years pre-conception.
It really does depend on your body I think.
I had no bleeding at all from the time it was put in until the last 6 months of the life of the implant (they last for 3yrs) when I bled for most of that time.
I found it affected my moods a bit (in retrospect) I was like a flat line and a bit depressive.
No weight gain or headaches.
My biggest problem was getting the second one out. (sorry, to say this after it's already in LOL ) It is usually a simple local and then a small inscision to pull it out, but my second was inserted into the muscle by mistake. It moved about 5-10cm up my arm within a month of having it inserted and I would recomend that if this happens you get it looked at straight away! It took a lot of work to find the thing (2 ultrasounds) to get it out, 2 surgeries leaving a huge scar and shooting pains a year later. Unfortunately a similar thing also happened to a girlfriend of mine when it was inserted incorrectly.
So, just be aware that if it moves it's position in your arm, get it checked out ASAP!!
Other than that it is just soooo convenient and no periods was soooo nice but I won't be having it again to avoid the depression.
My sister had really bad side effects with Implanon, so bad that she had to get it removed within a few weeks/months(?).
It sent her hormones haywire, and she was basically an emotional wreck...
It has scared me off ever trying it...
hey i got the implant p ut in 4- 6 months ago and i have had some real issues.
i have had constant heavy bleeding which i have to take the contraceptive pill once a day for 4 months to stop the bleeding. i get constant migrains which can last up to 62 days(being my longest so far).
my moods have changed dramatically from being happy one minute to being absolutely ****ed off the next which has led me to being homeless.
you want to know the side efeects of the implanon these are some side effects.
Hi,
i had the implanon inserted after giving birth to my darling daughter. the first month was great. untill the second rolled around and for the next 5mths i bleed everyday for the entire 5months.
I have just had it removed as i had had enough of the constant bleeding. The nurse who took it out said that every 3 in 5 that are inserted come out within the first year.
I was also told to give it a good 3 months before making the decsion to remove it as it can take that long before your cycles sort themselve out.
My only problem with implanon is irregular bleeding. I've had my implanon in for almost 2 years now and have gone from anywhere between 10 days to 60 days between bleeds - no pattern to it. Bleeding for me lasts between 4 days to 16 days - again, no pattern. I'm keeping a log of when I bleed and for how long now and with one year left of the implant I'm noticing some changes, ie: bleeding seems to happen every 24-30 days now, but I also have thyroid issues now which are effecting my periods too.
