My little boy was born in April and I got my first period on 28th August, lasted for 5 days was actually a bit lighter than before having DS and since then nothing. I stopped breastfeeding completely 3 weeks ago and thought that maybe breastfeeding was holding my period up. But even then, I was supplementing 2 formual bottles a day.
I knew that periods could be irregular after birth but how irregular? Is it worth a trip to the doctors? I havent been worried but DH mentioned to me the other day that he was and for him to say that, has now got me thinking. Before DS I was 28 -31 day cycle.
Anyone else experienced periods this irregular after birth?
Well, my cycles have never been regular, so I won't be too much help for you there.
For those who nurse, I've heard that it can take 2 to 18 months for your period to return. I think the effect varies greatly from one woman to another as far as how often you have to nurse to have it hold up AF. And it can definitely take a while even after you stop nursing for things to sort themselves out. It sounds like your situation is not abnormal, and I wouldn't worry too much about it. But of course, you know your own body best, and if you are concerned - by all means see your doctor! And don't forget that just because you are not bleeding, it doesn't mean that you are not ovulating. I have a friend who has three daughters, and has not had a period since she concieved her first. (lucky girl. )
BTW, when AF does return, she might make up for all those missed months.
All the best!
