My lovely locks won't stop falling...

    Hello,
I had my third baby 11 weeks ago and since then my hair is falling out. Not just a strand here or there, but clumps, especially when I wash it. I have heard of this happening to other people, it has never happened to me before and I am wondering how long can it possibly fall out for???? I have very thick hair (thankfully) but my pony tail is now about half the thickness is used to be... Help has anyone got any words of wisdom???
    Many thanks in advance

    Congratulations on your bub!!!

Loosing hair is normal, to do with hormones, especially increases when BF.

After DS1 I was loosing heaps of hair then it settled down, since having DS2 I am loosing a lot more, so much so that DH is always complaining about my hair being everywhere!! Kids always have it stuck to there clothes and when i wash hair always loose heaps in shower as well.

    Hugs you are not alone.

Yep the same thing happened to me about 12 weeks after I had my DD, they say you dont lose as much hair when you are pregnant and that it falling out is normal once you have had your baby. It does feel like its clumps and it does seem a lot but my hairdresser said its normal. Unless you are getting bald patches then it is nothing to worry about and will calm down soon. I also have very long hair and was always clearning the drain in the shower.

Yep totally normal, you don't loose as much and it grows faster while you are pregnant, then it all falls out again afterwards because of the hormones

I lost a lot of hair post birth, to the point I would wear a scarf to disguise the regrowth at the front which stuck up and was very obvious. As another poster said it is all normal unless you see bald patches, in which case you should probably see your GP to check that it is not just normal post birth hair loss.

    Congratulations on your baby

I had it after all three of my bubs from about 3 - 6 months. I'm now putting up with the short (and spikey!) regrowth now DD is 10 months old, it drives me nuts!

All normal I lost so much with my first that I chopped it off and now have short hair. I have just had my hair cut super short ready for the impending arrival of this one so I have got time up my sleeve. I have really thick hair and I just molt to the point that I got sick of hearing DH whinge about hair on his towel and socks ;-).

I hate the regrowth it takes forever to stop being fuzzy.

    Congratulations on your 3rd baby.

My floor is covered in hair still and my DS2 is 6 months old (sorry, you did ask lol). I keep hoping it will stop, but each time i wash it, it falls out like crazy. I have had it chopped off a lot just to lessen the amount that is all over the floor, but it hasn't improved much. I had to warn the hairdresser - so she didn't get a fright.

It didn't last this long with DS1. Maybe it gets worse the more kids you have?! Probably the stress
    Breastfeeding makes it worse too.

    Congrats on your baby!

Mine has been falling out too, more than after the first one. It started about 3 months and DD has just gone 6 months now. I chopped it short above my shoulders because the amount of hair around the house, on the kids, in the drain was driving me insane! LOL. It's still falling out now, but is started to lessen. I now have the fuzzy regrowth happening at my hair line. When I got my hair cut, my hairdresser also changed my part to the other side because it was really noticeable.

But try not to worry because it does eventually stop falling out. With DS, I think mine went back to normal around 7-8 months.

I lost heaps of hair after both babies but it looked like more with the second. Mine stopped coming out in wads about 3 months ago and DD2 just turned one. I have lots of regrowth at the front and the regrowth at the back has gone really wavy My hairdresser said she has seen so many variations post baby hair regrowth and one lady had curly hair and then had straight hair regrowth. Strange things our bodies do. My DD1 always says 'look, it's a mummy hair' as there seems to be strands all over the place. Thankfully it seems to have settled down though.

I lost heaps & heaps of hair when I was pregnant with my DD2. It was crazy, I had hairball tumbleweeds all throughout my house! lol
Anyway, I bought some shampoo, conditioner & scalp treatment spray by Nioxin and it seriously stopped the hair loss. I haven't had any drastic hair loss since! It is a little expensive to buy, but because you use so little it definitely lasts a while. Well worth the money I think!

I hope your hairloss stops soon

With DD is was the same, I seriously thought I had lost most of my hair, but in reality it was still very thick. Went for about 15 months I think. I chopped off all my hair after I had her and it still fell out lol.
With DS it has been more gradual and is still going and he's 16months old. Slower, but still going.

I'm soo super glad I found this thread.

I had a huge cry and snap at DP last night over my hair loss It's really scaring me!

But my loss has only really started in the last 6 weeks or so... Is that normal?? Could it still be linked to post birth even that long after?? (DS is 8 months old).

Why does BFing make it worse?? I BF DD too, and I can't remember this happening..
