    no AF, dtd = contraception

ok thats a really weird title isnt it

we are looking at ttc#2 next yr, its been 6weeks since giving birth to our first son, and i have no sign of AF yet, but was wondering if i can take the pill or do i need to wait til AF comes back??

Also during the time it takes for AF to return to take the pill can i get pg??
should we look at other contraception methods? or just not worry about it as we are ttc'ing #2 so soon??

    TIA

Naomi, are you bfing? You can get pg before AF arrives, as you can o first, then have your AF. If you are exclusively bfing (ie no formula or solids) and are feeding through the night, bfing is considered 98% effective as a conatraceptive for the first 6 months.

You can start to take the pill if you are not bfing (or mini-pill if you are bfing) 6 weeks after the birth and you do not need to wait for AF.

Gosh - I must be the 2% - we were exclusively breastfeeding around the clock, and my AF came back at 3 months! So I was probably fertile at 2 1/2 months!

My OB, and the midwives etc etc all told me not to rely on breastfeeding as contraception - and I'm glad I listened! LOL. Mind you, I didn't go on the pill either (poor DH had to regain his 'steely discipline' LOL)

Thanks for reminding me Liz - the 98% is only if you have no AF as well.
