    Symphasis Pubis after PG.

I had Symphasis Pubis Dysfunction during my PG which gave me a lot of grief (gave DH's ears a lot of grief too )

After about 6 weeks it settled down and as long as I thought about what I was doing it didn't hurt.
So the last couple of days it's been quite hurty and after a walking and pushing the pram yesterday and this morning I have awoken to a lot of hurty :frown:

I just wanted to ask other SPD sufferers how did they find it after PG. It was hurting before I exerted myself yesterday so I'm inclined to think it was flaring up on it's own.
Has this happened to you? Can it flare up again for no reason?

How bizarre, my Physio told me you can't tell whether its going to even be present in subsequent pg's it depends on the post treatment you receive.

I have exercises I am supposed to do. Mine was a severe case and I was bed ridden on a few occasions during my pregnancy with both Paris & Seth. With Paris I couldn't sit for very long in the same position... I remember we went to see Final Fantasy and I left the Cinema nearly screaming in Pain, my back had seized as part of the SPD it took a few hours before it stopped spasming... NOT fun! Seth I only had that happen once, but I saw a Physio nearly every week (at least 1-2 times per month). I had one slip up post birth where I put my back out, which was related to SPD, an old back injury and menstrual hormones. So do be careful post birth as that is often when it plays up. And breastfeeding also adds to the hormonal mix

If you think you have SPD do see a physio or get a referral from your ob to see a SPD physio as it can cause permanent damage and can affect labour if not treated correctly.

Sammi, mine got much worse a week after birth. I could hardly walk and it lasted like that for 14 weeks. I had a natural birth ,and felt a hell of a lot of pain in that area during the labour, and she was born 2 pound heavier than my DS.

Still now, before pg even, I can't open my legs as wide as I could before, if I slip and one leg goes too fast it still hurts.

So for me it did flare up after pg and that was pretty normal according to my doctor.

I hope it doesn't get too bad for you

Sammi-- you poor thing! My physio and Ob told me to not worry about mine so much, and that as soon as Junior is born, it will all fix itself up! Now I'm worried that they may have lied to me!

I strongly suggest you seeing a physio and see if they can use their "ultrasound" machines, which is what they cant use during pregnancy.

Danni I guess they aren't lying but more trying to pep you up. I've always had back problems but for this PG it was the symphasis pubis that was making the most pain for me. I'm just wanting to know if it's come back for anyone else post PG
    Caro thanks for the info.
I was seeing a physio for pilates based therapy once a week during my PG. It helps and makes my tummy muscles nice and strong.

I have had SPD and a sore coccyx only after having my baby...finally starting to feel better after 15 weeks...BUT I find that that is the dangerous time as I start to overdo it and then get sore again, because I don't have the pain to remind me.

Could you be overdoing things/forgetting to move in the right way etc because you have not had any pain? That could cause it to flare up.

I've found pilates and yoga fantastic for SPD. I find its getting sore less and less. I get pain down my left butt cheek lol not fun!
