    Question vaginal dryness tmi?

i remember vaguely reading something about vaginal dryness after birth. can anyone elaborate more on why this happens or what you can do to help this?

I am not completely sure but i would assume it would be with the changes in hormones after birth (perhaps a drop in oestrogen?)...

Especially if you are breastfeeding, but due to the post-birth hormonal changes, your oestrogen levels can be very low. This causes dryness as well as the vaginal tissues to thin. My Dr gave me these little oestrogen tablets that you pop in 'down there' once a day and it made the world of difference!

Yes its due to hormones similar to how women are drier right before and after a period. Also if you are breastfeeding it affects vaginal dryness sometimes. You can express breastmilk and put it on your vagina - it is better than using a commerical lubricant like KY jelly because that stuff just goes yukky and sticky after a while. BM doesn't do that.

Danni, just say it straight out - I'm having problems with vaginal dryness. It hurts to DTD. Give me something, QUICK! LOL Good luck, I'm sure it's a common enough problem and they won't blink an eyelid.

I had a similar thing and my gp prescribed the ovestin cream too.

My OB prescribed me the ovestrin cream before I'd even asked ... he just said 'here is a script in case you need it, for vaginal dryness'.
I haven't actually used it yet though, because after I bought it home from the chemists, I read the product information sheet, and it said that one of the side effects was a possible reduction in milk supply. Since I'm struggling with low supply issues, that sort of freaked me out.

Danni I used it for several months and found it had no effect on my supply, BFing was well established by then. So it might be worth giving it a go, if your supply is affected you can either boost it by feeding extra, resting, extra fluids (all the usual things) or just stop using the cream. Worth discussing with your Dr as not every woman will experience every possible side effect associated with a medication.
