Seriously this may be TMI so if your squeamish I'm shut your eyes and run away now....
Also not sure if I've posted in the correct area so mod's feel free to move!
So I've been a bit sore *downstairs* the last day or so and attributed it to my stitches, however today it's been so bad I could hardly sit down so I got out the mirror for a bit of a squizz and found a HUGE abscess!!!! I can't believe I didn't even notice this coming up and now I'm really scared I'm going to have to go and have it drained in hospital.
I've had an abscess drained before so I know they'll probably keep me over night, put me on antibiotics and it's likely the would will need to be packed daily, not to mention being extremely uncomfortable.
Our DS is only 5 weeks and is BF'ing, I'm worried about having to leave him for the night and if it's going to effect our feeding which we've worked SOOO hard to establish.
Going to see Doc tomorrow and I'm praying that they can give me an antibiotic to clear this up that wont effect feeding.
I'm so upset that this has happened as we were finally getting on track with feeding & settling and I'm so worried this is going to set us right back. Especially as I know DP, as much as he tries, just isn't confident in settling DS and looking after him by himself.
Sorry to off load such gross info, just needed to get it out instead of sitting hear worrying about it.
Okay, now that's out of the way... If you do have to stay overnight, could you ask if DS can go in with you? Things may have changed, but when I was a few weeks old my mum had to go back to hospital and was adamant she wasn't leaving me (I'm glad they let her take me in - she would've died if she'd stayed home!) It think they had to readmit me as a patient for paperwork reasons though, otherwise technically I was a visitor and couldn't stay past visiting hours
That was 1986 though, they might not be allowed to do that now. No hurt in asking!
Hope it works out for you, whichever way it goes.

: I use the word "though" too much sometimes...
they are normally VERY good with breastfeeding mums letting bubs be with them. so you will prob find that if they keep you in the will put bubs in with you too
Just wanted to offer a huge I so hope this gets fixed soon for you and I agree with Harleysgirl about bubs staying with you.
Sometimes women are advised that they can't feed with certain antibiotics when they are actually fine...I'm pertty sure it is Barb Glare that can give you a number for a great person who can give you a definitive answer on whether a med is safe to use while bf
Try not to jump ahead to worrying about hospital. I went into hospy for IV antibiotics when DD was 3 weeks old - not only did they find a single room so I could keep her in there with me, they also let DH stay with me the entire time (it was a post CS wound infection so I wasn't very mobile at that point). You will be ok.
In the meantime, I hope it goes well with your GP - fingers crossed it's just a course of ABs to get it right.
If you do have to go and have an overnight stay, he should be allowed to stay with you. When I had my second bub there was a woman on the mat ward as she was a post op patient for gall stones and her bub was only 8wks old so they had her on the mat ward so the middies could help her out with bubs as well. She was in for 3 days though. But you may just be able to have in done in the Dr's surgery and get a script for abs but you definitely need to see a Dr though.
Thanks so much for all your messages, turns out we did have to go into hospital, I had a Bartholian Absses which needed to be removed ASAP. Austin was admitted with me which was great, I had to throw out my next two lots of milk after the anesthetic and only had about 6 hours warning before the surgery. Thank god I already had a little supply of frozen EBM so we just scraped by with feeds!
My DP ended up taking Austin home after the surgery as I was too drugged up and it was upsetting me that I couldn't hold him The next morning when they came to pick me up my boobs started leaking as soon as I saw the pram come into the room lol
So glad it's all over now...here's hoping that's the last we see of hospitals for a while!!
